The views and the area are really lovely. The service was a little slow, but they could have been very busy. The food was okay, but a little pricey. Good place for people watching and enjoying an afternoon.
Loved the Iron door!! Drew was a wonderful and attentive server without being obnoxious. Enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip, dinner salad and the Coronado quiche - very delicious!! No room for pie on this trip but definitely next time!!
Great Chili and desserts! It's so good I don't order anything else. It comes with a generous portion of corn bread. Some say it's pricey, but considering operation costs -everything is brought in from the valley- it's not bad at all. Plus you are supporting a local business and getting out of the desert heat! Ask to be seated in Nelson's section for some intelligent entertainment!
Out of several items on the menu and it seemed an inconvenience to them having business. 2 stars only because of the mountain view.
Perfect for what it is and where it is. Gives that authentic cabin feel - rustic and a bit warn. Great chili and the hot spiced wine really hits the spot. The bacon Mac and cheese was disappointing. The pasta was a bit too al dente. Friendly and helpful staff.
The food is very good, and not overly expensive. The staff was pleasant on our visit. We eat outside on the deck, and the sun and fresh air made the coffee delicious! The view are hard to beat, and the air was filled with the sent of Ponderosa Pine. There was humming bird feeders hanging along the edge of the deck, and the aerobatics of the birds caused some dinners to duck their heads a few times, but we enjoyed the antics. After eating, be sure to ride the chair lift to the top of the mountain.
We only had pie and got chocolate. The mountain berry pie was great and the hot chocolate was tasty. The servers were very friendly as well.
Horrible smell like raw sewage in the restroom. Rude server that was upset with us when we were not ready to order. We tried to speak with the manager but he would not come out. We left and will not return - just a bad experience all the way around. Mt. Lemon could definitely use a nice place to dine.
Great warm place in the snow great service and delicious pies!
Amazing food and fun staff. Worth the trip in every way.
Best pies EVER
Extremely unimpressed. It could be a race thing but I truely do my best to take in the environment to include time of day, busy or crowded, etc. But my pancakes came out extremely burned, my fruit were tiny like the size of a dorito nacho chip or smaller, my eggs were runny and I could count the potatoes on one hand seriously. I really wish i took pictures. You can not only see the burnt crisp but smell it on the pancakes. Why would you serve me this! After watching everyone getting their food around us, it looked great. Most ordering the exact same thing. We still continued to be positive until our plates came out.
Cute place good food
Great Service, Awesome Waiter everytime:)
The food and the service were both excellent!! We tried the tortilla soup, salad, quiche, corn bread and Jay's chicken sandwich!! Highly recommend everything we had!! The corn bread is very interesting, and even better with butter and honey.
Good food, excellent service.
Great food, great service and a great view from the patio!
Great lunch and good service.
Great food, great service.
Good food. Friendly staff. Beautiful views. A little pricey but it's on the top of a mountain... What do you expect.
Loved everything! Fun place, great food, awesome staff and surprisingly unique bites.
We rode motorcycles to the top of My. Lemmon and found this delightful restaurant. Homemade food, mini pies, and great, friendly staff. We had exceptional service from a fun and witty wait staff person named Kianna. Also, take a scenic ski lift ride across the road.
Brie was good, as was the macaroni and cheese. The pies and strudel were the best.
Do Not waste your time going to the Iron Door Restaurant in Ski Valley. It’s one of the worst places to go! The service is horrible and the food is just as bad. The host was disrespectful and all the staff were incredibly disrespectful. For years I have gone to this restaurant and it’s always been horrible. Don’t waste your time going here. The pie even sucks. They need to close. I have no idea how this place has any good reviews. The views are great and it’s very cozy. After this past weekend I had to say something about my experience.
Good food and Service...not so cheap.
So good! The German potato salad was absolutely wonderful! Great service, great food!
Thought this place was great for where it is. Just a small little restaurant at a little ski hill. Very rustic looking inside that fits the place well. Food and service were excellent and priced right.
I ate the turkey reuben with German potato salad while my wife had the chili and shared her huge piece of cornbread. Unfortunately they were out of the rhubarb pie due to the Octoberfest weekend.
The Iron Door like most things up on Mt. Lemmon feels very small and cozy. it has great views of the ski lifts and nature in itself. The chili really hit the spot after our hike. Would tell anybody about this place. Definately will be back earlier to experience more of the menu.
The food was outstanding. The waiter, fabulous. You can't beat the drive up there and back!
Great patio with hummingbird feeders. Enjoyed the German plate.
Nothing worse to having to wait to be seated when there are open seats available. Granted there were only 2 of us, but we only came for a drink and appetizer! We left after waiting 15 mins. Another couple came up asked if they had beer on tap..was told no and they left.
Worst possible service. A older dude was the server. Brought water and then completely ignored us. Lame apology and excuse from both he and the manager when we elected to vacate. He "forgot". Really? We were sitting right in his line of sight as he repeatedly passed us by while making eye contact and smirking. I agree with Rosie Little; it may have been racist. Not good.
Amazing food. Great service. And if you have breakfast on Saturday or Sunday you get free lift tickets. Always a great way to escape the heat.
Fantastic food on the top of Mount Lemon in Tucson. We ate outside enjoying the humming birds and snow covered scenary.
Wonderful pies just make sure you are early.
The Iron Door is a beautiful little restaurant tucked up in the trees of mount Lemmon. We went in about 4 o clock so they were only serving chili, soup, and dessert. Well its a good thing we were there for the chili! The chili is absolutely delicous, perfect amount of spice, nice meaty tomato flavor, excellent after a long day of hiking. Let's talk about this cornbread though. I don't even like cornbread, but this right here, is amazing. The cornbread is so moist and crumbly, with bits of actual corn in it. talk about out of this world, paired with the wild clover honey and mixed in the chili, you cant get any better than that! The view from the balcony is gorgeous, you can see the ski lifts and humming birds are flying around feeders near by. we will definately be back.
Good food. We had the chili & cornbread with pie after. Delicious late lunch outside watching the hummingbirds buzzing around. Great view.
We experienced extremely slow service and dry food. Waited 30 min for our order to be taken. Spoke with the manager in hopes of some explanation and they explained the party of 11 was too much to handle before us. Outside of a free dessert (which we saw take over 20 min to prepare next to us), no compensation was offered. Strongly not recommended. The only positive experience was the polite host.
Best place to eat on Mt. Lemmon. Chili, sandwiches, desserts are all top notch. Great atmosphere with fireplace for cooler weather.
Beautiful place for lunch
First time eating here and my goodness, customer service is courteous, portion size just right, price point’s fair and indulging wonderful meals at high altitude! Had the Chicken Tortilla Soup w/ Crash & Burn sandwich (Soup & 1/2 Sandwich) entree! For dessert: MT BERRY PIE (black/blue/rasp/strawberry) ice dream & whip cream !!! As many times as I rode or drove to peak of Mt Lemmon, this place left me wondering why I haven’t tried it sooner !!! Ride or Drive Safe !!!
Very friendly atmosphere. Got to sit next to the fireplace and eat great chili and cornbread!
The place is small, but food is delicious and service is exceptional! Great views on the way to and from.
The Ruben was amazing and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. A little slice of paradise.
We wanted to cool off, so we went up the mountain yesterday for a late lunch. First impression was either the establishment makes zero profits to reinvest in items like tablecloths (ours had holes around the edges where it’s moulded itself after what I assume has been years of service) appropriate dish ware (pie a la mode was brought out on small plate instead of bowl and eating without contents spilling off was a feat), or the management is cheap and has total disregard for cleanliness and details. Sitting a while, watching the staff clean tables by pushing debris onto the floor, I noticed table lamp shade was covered in food spatter, and when my hand journeyed down to my lap to grab my napkin my finger accidentally found the years-old pile of crumbs in the corner pocket of the ancient tablecloth. Not to dwell too much on the lack of cleanliness and upkeep, here’s the take on food: Mac and Cheese had a nice bacony flavor, but we could not find the cheese. Thank goodness we added the dollop of canned chilis to the top (for $1) or I don’t think there would have been *any* flavor other than bacon. We usually enjoy different takes on Mac n Cheese but this was confounding - we’ve never seen it made without any obvious cheese - macaroni had obviously had something added to it - a super watery (maybe) cheese influenced sauce that had totally absorbed? Sandwiches were edible - not what I’d call restaurant quality: more canned chilis mixed in with melted cheese and deli sliced beef on toasted bread. Pickle was crunchy, and German potato salad was a nice difference from the usual mayonnaisey fare. Potato chips looked like a small pile of plain Lays tossed on a plate. Mountain Berry pie was better than most - double crust was well made and baked but lacked depth, as did the filling. I appreciated the filling was not sticky sweet but the combination was a bit one-note and needed some depth - the ice cream definitely added to the flavor. Service wasn’t bad - our waitress was very nice and attentive. The overall impression of the greeters/seaters was, well...clueless? The staff (and management) definitely could use some training on how not to scare patrons with, well, a filthy venue as well as proper serving and seating techniques. I personally start thinking of all the ways I could get poisoned during my meal when I see a filthy dining room, and watch staff dump droppings onto the floor. Customers also get a little anxious listening to the yelling in the kitchen. Would I go back? Not unless it was my last option up the mountain. I’d give other venues a try or just eat before heading up Mt. Lemmon.
Great chili and pie. Great location.
It was nice but once is enough for mw
Server was nice, but the breakfast was probably the worst breakfast I've had this year. The omelet was undercooked, very few potatoes on the plate. Very subpar. Good atmosphere though.
Johny cake, corn bread, heaven on a plate, and honey on top, for each bite. Deliciousness.
Delicious chili and pie! The restaurant is really nice, especially if you sit on the porch outside, where there are hummingbird feeders.
Great place to be when the temperature is 91 degrees in Tucson. I sat on the deck to eat my German food. Excellent brats, apple sauce, potato salad, red cabbage and corn bread. The corn bread was like nothing I have ever had -- crispy on the top, big piece served with butter and honey, it was like a piece of cake -- outstanding! I had to wait about 1/2 hour, but it was worth it to sit on the deck in a breeze.
The booths here are very tight and the tables are small. Still, the service was attentive and kind. The food was good. At times you can get a lift pass with your meal and enjoy a trip to the top of Mt. Lemmon after your meal-a great way to enjoy views and digest go ahead, enjoy!
If you need warm chili on a cold day... it's perfect. If you are looking for moderately functional service and good food in the summer... you'd better not be picky or in a hurry.
Excellent - food & service were great. Portions were generous.
Nice place
Good chili awesome corn bread to go
Ok
The atmosphere and service was great but the food was undesirable. The food was bland and dry. I won’t be going back until a menu change.
First time here with my mother love sitting on the deck, good food and service!!
Expensive for what u get. Portions rvery small and the atmosphere is very outdated. It really needs some updating and the server needs some new quotes!
Food was cold not cool very disappointed. Cold Chile not a good sign. Salads were fair to good. The cornbread mifecwife said was excellent. Stick with desserts which were fabulous up front.
Great food and outside patio. Front desk stsff very overwhelmed. Once seated service was great
Great chilli here after a long hike. I really enjoy the esscense of this long standing staple in our Mt. Lemon community. Being from the city of Tucson this is always a great quick getaway from the city and a breath of fresh air while eating your chilli outside, watching the hummingbirds enjoy a meal also. The birds that stop by also have names and are quite the characters. Service is okay due to the high volume I can understand some of the wait time for food, wait staff are very courteous and have a sense of humor.
Got there after 430 so no food available. Real nice place though.
Had lunch on the porch. Had a delicious lunch while watching the hummi's.
Oh my goodness this place was so good, lovely German atmosphere. Went here for breakfast right before Oktoberfest with a good friend of mine and got free tickets to the tram ride. Awesome day!
Quaint and inviting! Well worth the trip and the staff are all so very friendly and personable!
Took a nice ride fron Mesa on a motorcycle to get there.
Donna rate this one a 5! Super friendly staff and comfortable eating environment added to the "flavor" of this restaurant at the ski valley of Mt. Lemmon. Open earlier than Summerhaven on weekends, the friendly staff make you feel comfortable. Started outside on a beautiful cool morning and were swept inside by a flash rain! Very accommodating. Food was fast, fresh and hot. Hard not to enjoy a meal that you can look at and FEEL tour arteries hardening! Enjoy.
Wonderful experience in a most unique setting.
Nice little restaurant on top of the mountain
Beautiful spot if you sit outside and watch the birds.
It wasn't the 25 minute wait for a table but the service was super duper slow
Great little restaurant. Open for breakfast, and that's a big deal for me. Nice view of the slopes and friendly staff.
The view and service at the Iron Door are excellent. For a stop before heading up the ski lift, this place hits the spot. The food was good. Admittedly, with four young kids, our orders were pretty simple: grilled cheese, corn dogs, chips and salsa, and soup with corn bread. We've eaten here twice, and we fortunate to have the same server twice. He was hilarious and efficient.
Top of Mt Lemon. Nice patio with humming birds
incredible food!! great stop after a day of hiking
Not what I expected. Salad was not worth $12.
Great chili
If I could give it less than 1 star I would. Food quality was poor and extremely overpriced for sandwiches. Pesky flies buzzed around us and our food the entire time we were there.
Great food and service!
The views on this restaurant are undeniably nice, however, the food is not very good and overpriced. We ordered a simple grilled cheese sandwich and a soup that appeared to be straight out of a can.. price: over $13 ;the service is super slow. I will not eat there again
Had the bread and cheese platter. Not bad, but a bit much. Outdoor seating was fantastic. Multiple hummingbirds fluttering around the feeders. Service and staff was great.
Great food...4 different food..all very good.
Our Family loves the Iron Door! We drive up just for the Pie!!! At the right time of year you can sit outside and watch the Humming birds as you enjoy the Mountain air.
Great food! I had the Black Forest. Strudel (Mountain Berry) was great. Bratwurst had a good mild flavor. Tasted the potato pancakes from the Bavarian and they were awesome!
Satisfies the German food crave.
Beautiful location, good food, nice patio dining
Beautiful place to eat! It was a nice respite from the Summer Tucson heat. Great food and atmosphere. I’m from Colorado and it made me feel like I was at home in the mountains. Highly recommend!
Good food, friendly service. We went on Memorial weekend, it was busy but we were seated quickly since it was just 2 of us. Food is a little pricey.
We thought they had good food here at a good price, and good service. It's also fun to sit on the veranda and watch the hummingbirds.
Pretty expensive for what's on the menu. The best part is the views.
Great Chili. Cornbread is the best!
Every chance I get to go up to Mt lemmon I go to this place. I love their food. Especially "Heidi's meadow" one of their salads, yum!!!
This restaurant is one of the best in the Tucson area! Definitely save room for a puree of the Mountain Berry Crumble!! The best pie ever!
Love this place, been here many times food is awesome and very tasty... Yet what really bugs me is the waiting process that sometimes is bit off... Prices have gone way up in the recent years... Still place i always love to visit every time I get in Tucson AZ ...
The best Bar b q ribs I ever had
Long wait for subpar food. The server was personality plus, but the server next to our table was shocked when the table of ladies complimented the German potato salad and told them is was not made onsite.
I sat outside on a very beautiful patio for lunch with my friend so I was anxious to try out this places food. The service was quite slow and slower as the patio filled. I hopefully ordered the Chili and corn bread. Not a clue, the cook must never have tasted Chili, maybe someone just described it to him. Saddening..on the good side the waiters were super nice and it's a fantastic place to see a wonderful array of hummingbirds up close and the view is fantastic.
It would be nice if they entered the 21st century with more vegetarian options and at least one vegan. Even most steakhouse offer a veggie burger! Also would be nice if they made the bathrooms a little more handicap friendly, like at least replace toilets with higher ones and installed grab bars. We once had to go in and lift an elderly friend off the toilet. All she needed was a grab bar. Sitting on their outside patio on a hot summer day is lovely but the limited menu keeps me away.
The Iron Door Restaurant in the Ski Area at the top of Mt. Lemmon is an all time favorite. They serve a wide variety of salads, sandwiches, homemade soups and feature their famous chili and cornbread. Most of these items are homemade. Every time I can get there, I do so and I have never been disappointed. It is 30 degrees cooler than the valley where Tucson is, and the 30-mile drive up goes through all categories of vegetation in just 30 miles. It's also just plain fun. Be sure to have the chili and cornbread, with a glass of wine or some beer. I also recommend the Coronado Quiche. For dessert, don't miss the pies. Each is a 6-inch piece, served round, with ice cream and whipped cream. The Mountain Berry is a mash-up of raspberry, blueberry, blackberry; it is homemade and delightful. Service is courteous and helpful; they are proud of their restaurant and it shows. Parking is off-street, and if it is full, you can park across the street in the ski village lot. Restrooms are always clean and stocked. The Iron Door serves breakfast and lunch only. It is always worth the drive.
Very nice site. Prices very moderate. The food is ok, but bland and a bit boring. Go for the beautiful site, not for gastronomy.
Food was great! Friendly folks!!
Beautiful place.Great service
Great chili after a long bike ride up the mountain. So happy this place survived the fires. A gorgeous place to see hummingbirds migrating.
Do not eat here. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich (for $14) and it was seriously depressing. The bread was stale, the lettuce was wilted and brown on the ends, and there was hardly any chicken. Everyone else's meal was dissapointing too- the melted chicken sandwich was cold, the cornbread was dry, and the drinks were way overpriced. Furthermore, service was incredibly slow and even getting the bill took forever. The only upside was the rustic cabin feel. I'd rather eat an old pb&j than dine here again. No idea how other people thought it's worth 5 stars.
Loved it. Good food. Good service.
This is some of the best food I've had, with a fun twist on the dishes and a unique dining experience. They usually are pretty busy and expensive, but you need to go there if you ever have the chance.
Ambience was nice. Not impressed by the food or pie. Service was fair.
Nothing better than mountain views and good food!
Cute little restaurant that makes good food. Great view of the ski valley.
Ok food. Great service. They did bring my service animal a bowl of water without me asking. It is at the ski resort on Mt Lemmon. Long drive. If you get carsick, this might be a challenge. Amazing views to get there.
The place is beautiful. Our waiter was awesome and the service was great. The food was average and expensive for what we received.
Our food was great...and watching the hummingbirds the whole time was very entertaining. Our waitress was super nice too!
I came with 14 other people and the new waitress made the mistake of waiting to bring the food out all at once. My food was the only breakfast that was warm... Everyone else in my party had extremely cold food. The manager did not charge those that were very upset. But most of my group said they would not be back again. I have had 2 other good experiences there myself. So I will try again. My quiche was delicious.
Best chili I've ever had. Generous portions. This from Texas is saying something.
Never been in 10 years of living in Tucson. Great service and food.
Good food a little pricey
Great food! Worth the drive. I've never seen so many humming birds at one location.
They have wonderful food--but my favorite is the blueberry peach pie that appears to be home-made just like my mom use to do.
Delicious food, server was excellent with our requests and prompt delivery. The ambience is rustic and magnificent
Food was amazing and service has top notch
Food was great as usual. Had soup and half a BBQ chicken sandwich so I would have room for dessert. Had the peach and cream cheese strudel this time with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. All very good. Our go to place on Mt Lemmon.
Really, really good food, well worth the enjoyable drive up Mt. Lemmon.
We loved the restaurant! The food and special desserts were delicious, service was great, the decor warm and inviting. We'll definitely return.
I love the Iron Door, good service and good food. Their Chili is outstanding and so is their German Chocolate cake!
Nice rustic atmosphere had a meatball soup and pie
Great food, but a little pricey
I had an amazing experiance here! I had the grilled cheese special with tomato soup and it was spectacular. The service was quick and our hostess was great. If you ever come up to Mount Lemmon for lunch, come here. Their sandwiches and soups are really good. I except to be back in the future!
Loved it. Great food. Beautiful setting. Wish it was closer so I could visit frequently.
Really great food, service and reasonable prices
Food was great! Not enough staff for how busy the restaurant was. I would return and try again when the patio is open.
Didn't get to eat but the staff were very friendly. Ski lift was fun and worth it
best place for pie besides twin peaks
Nice menu breakfast ends 11am
Overpriced food, food is not great. Service was less than desirable. Could have went to a nice restaurant for what I paid. Not coming back
Delicious food (the German potato salad is to die for), with prompt, friendly service.
Cool, relaxing place
Decent food and good service
5 stars for real estate. Location, location location.
First time to Mount Lemmon with my sisters so we were excited to eat somewhere at the top. We read the reviews before coming here & thought it would be a good spot to eat. I ordered chili w/cornbread. Chili was too salty, very tomato based & it was more like a soup. I assume it came from a can & not made in house. We saw a lot of microwaving going on in the kitchen. The Cornbread had a weird top layer of gritty cornmeal texture & was too sweet. It was overpriced for the quality of food & for a small glass of iced tea. The worst part were the little fruit flies that come out when your food arrives. People at each table were swatting them away, which is no exaggeration. Overall, we were disappointed and would not recommend this place.
Delicious food, feels like you're eating at home with great service.
Very overpriced, beware! We had the grilled cheese, which was $13.95 and included tomatoes and bacon, it was good. The individual pie had a delicious berry filling, however the dough was rather rubbery, not tender and flaky. You pay for the setting, not for the food or service.
Always fun to eat here and relax after the drive up the mtn.
What a great place and good food.
Great breakfast! Wonderful atmosphere at a reasonable price. The pies are great!
