REVIEWS OF The Hangar On The Wharf IN Alaska

Misty I

I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. Wow, what a fantastic dinner and introduction to fresh, Alaskan seafood. Honestly, I was served the best Fish n Chips I've ever had, hands down. My son had some incredible, sweet and creamy oysters on the half shell, and coconut shrimp which was crispy and delicious. My other son who is not a seafood fan, enjoyed a grass fed, organic burger, every last bite. It can be a little busy with 5 cruise ships in port in this tiny town of Juneau, Alaska's capitol city, but the staff work together like a well oiled machine and to ensure your meal is timely, hot, fresh and delicious.

Zane Kennedy

Quick service and good food. Impossible burger and portobello burger and a couple more veg/vegan options. Plenty of beer and drinks. Staff friendly. Great place to go after a day in the town.

julia muntean

Pretty good burgers, not too busy and most of the staff is very nice

Jaclyn Gilmer

Sweet potato fries are the best I've ever had. We had the halibut fish and chips and beer. The halibut was so buttery soft. Cooked perfectly! We liked it so much we went back a second time. The second trip in we had sweet potato fries and calimari, husband had beer..they were out of the one I wanted so, I got the rose wine. The people working the bar were SUPER nice! Love it all around!

I MadeAtlasShrug

Halibut chowder was incredible!! Food and service were great at a good price

Dane Whitehead

The food was really good and the views were great. Really cool to see the cruise ships up close. The waiter was attentive and helpful. Real cool place to eat.

Frank Aguilar

Loved it. Had dinner poached pear gorgonzola salad with avacado, and shrimp Alfredo. Was delicious and a perfect pairing! Plus we had a flight of beers.

Tichelle Brant

The waitress was instantly rude. She was very short and snippy before we even sat down. Food was great. The service was trash mainly bc of her

Joanne Ashworth

It was extremely interesting and very informative! John the commentator was. So nice and helpful! He assissted me with questions and was very helpful as I'm handicapped. Really enjoyed the visit!

steve fox

Nick was great and took care of us. Great wings and services

James Frank

Not a food review, but the beer selection here is excellent. Staff is great and helpful getting you what you want. Hey a flight of beers, appropriate here, 20 total oz for $9 is a pretty great deal to find something you like, and the taps change out at a pretty good clip so you never know when you'll find something amazing

Lizayra Polak

I went there first just for drinks. We had an amazing waiter, day 2 we went again with a group of friends and I ate the best Halibut Chowder ever. Amazing place awesome service!

Rusty Scudder

Great local bar and restaurant. Extensive food and drink menus, friendly service, and a view down Gastineau Channel.

Greg Saccone

Some of us loved the food, others thought it was so so. But we all absolutely loved was the creek and watching the salmon actually swim up the creek to spawn. You could walk within feet of them it was amazing!

Jim Phillips

A local told us to go here. They had the best halibut tacos I've ever eaten. Sadly, the only way to get to Juneau is by boat or airplane. When is the next flight? My mouth is watering.

mbaines95

Great fish and chips and drinks! I highly recommend!

Don Ewart

Appears as just another cruise ship shakedown restaurant but our experience was way better. Lovely fresh fish and views. Plenty of gluten free options. Fast service. Views. Good for children. Has highchairs.

JoAnne Owens

Not a huge menu for lunch and a touch pricy. Halibut sandwich was good.

kevs767

Great stop for a beer on return to cruise ship. Also offers views of seaplanes comingvand going between the cruise ships.

*** WARNING: the menu doesn't match the online menus! Big discrepancy!! Just FYI **** Here's what we ordered: - Beef Nachos: Don't recommend these if you live somewhere where they really know how to make Mexican food/Tex-Mex/nachos... You'll be very disappointed! - Crab legs: really good and the 1 lb left plenty to share with a table of 3 (add a little salt to the drawn butter for flavor) - Coconut Fried Prawns: crispy and delicious! - Sweet potato fries: definitely the way to go over the plain fries...so good! - Cheese topped regular fries: very soggy; don't recommend We visited during a slow time so no waiting or poor service.

Our tour guide said to go hear instead of Tracy's Crab shack and I think it was good advise. The other place is more expensive and a little less quality. I tend to believe the locals. Great place to eat after whale watching!!!

Eric Stegemann

Great place to stop in from the cruise docks. Great seafood and service. Plus good WiFi

Cheryl Durham

Horrible bar service ! Burger overcooked. Avg on food. Good view

Alani Pahulu

The fresh rolls are good. Chowder soup taste like I was eating cream of potato soup. Kingcrab legs were the dead legs. For 2 pieces at 40 bucks, will not buy that again. Added the crab legs to chowder soup finally taste like a seafood chowder. Chicken fried steak was from a box. It was a 4 at of 10. I'm writing this post from Sitka airport and the chicken fried steak I had this morning way better. It was a nice restaurant overlooking the ocean. Spent $375.00 just for food that night. I'm not complaining but if I come back to Juneau next year. I will not eat at this restaurant. The food did not stand out for me. Nothing was a wow for me to come back here. I have no problem paying for good food. Hope this helps.

Reese

Had a wonderful time tonight. My friend was visiting from Fairbanks and she's never been. Pete K. was an excellent server and The Hangar has never let me down!!! Thank you!

Tina Calle

Pricey And GOOD! The halibut tacos were really good..no frozen fish here. Beer was great. Lunch was very expensive but worth it after the long flight. Alaskan amber is a good drinkable beer to enjoy with it!!

Vicki Gaebe

Absolutely the best king crab legs in Juneau. Amazing view of the harbor and sea planes coming and going. Great service too. We’ll be back

Evan Watkins

Sitting Eating the Best Fish Tacos that I have ever had looking out at the ship we came up on if you haven't made the trip yet do so it is well worth the time and money and eat here for good food and great service

Jason Pizza

Great place to grab a quick beer before you have to get back on your cruise ship. Solid lineup of craft beers and a phenomenal view of the harbor/water plane terminal.

Cory Fisher

Super good Seafood. Not too pricey for a tourist spot. Beer was ice cold and service was pleasant and fast. I would go back if I swing back through here

Anstead Applemoor

Great place with views over the harbour and cruise ship terminal. Great location and great food. Beer great also and reasonably priced.

Aaron Pressel

I received a recommendation to go here by one of our guides. The food really is pretty good but the service was very poor. The waiter was inattentive and forgetful and I had to flag him down in order to keep him from walking right by my table. In addition, my girlfriends drinking glass was dirty and since the waiter didn't check on us for a while it took forever to get another glass. The place was busy, but from what I was able to gather, they are busy frequently. Overall, I really regret going here. Alaska is very expensive in general and I was only in Juneau for a few days. Really, there are better places to go to spend 80 dollars.

vincenzo conte

It would be a 1 star but the waiter was actually pretty good. Everything else was terrible. When we got our appetizer we noticed a black chunk of something on the small plates, upon inspection we realized it was a USED chewing Tabacco dip pouch. After we got our food the table next to us just sitting down also found a Tabacco dip pouch in their shareable plates.

Brigid Freeman

Friendly service, the most excellent Fish (halibut) and chips. Fish cut thick, not at all greasy. Great views. A bit out of the way, but, so worth the tiny effort to get there. And so close to the cruise pier.

Robin Madsen

My husband and I decided to try out this place due to the overwhelming amount of positive reviews. Let me tell you, we were not disappointed! We ordered the Lazy sushi appetizer and we both got the halibut fish and chips. I'm a slow eater and had to defend my plate from my husband!

Aimee Koeplin

Our large party made a reservation for a table for 9 — months in advance. When we arrived, the restaurant could not accommodate us and didn’t offer any reasonable solutions. The hostess even refused to seat us at two separate tables. Staff was very uninterested in helping us.

Gary Evans

DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL...waiter was fine but POOR KING CRAB LEGS DINNER FOR THE MONEY...

Janet Passey

The view was wonderful. Unfortunately my meal was not. I ordered the king crab boil, the crab leg meat was dry and crumbly, not even worth the effort. Maybe 1 tablespoon of meat. The manager wouldn't replace it, only gave us dessert. My husband had the king salmon and he enjoyed it.

Cullen Conrad

Great view, food was not bad. Portions are small during tourist season

bfrog 78

The people that serves are really good and nice. Tip them good please.

Joyce Wagner

Had linguini and clams. Huge amount of delicious food. Tons of clams. Not a huge price. Try it out.

G Lee

Duck L'Orange I asked for rare, or or showing pink in the meat, was overcooked, dry, the orange sauce overly strong. When they don't ask what doneness level as for a steak, it's a low bar for dining. And to have it overcooked just ruins it. Someone else in our group ordered a jack Daniels burger, the plate looked very nicely dressed, but couldn't see the burger. Our friend exposed the burger, looked like a burnt hockey puck, awful.

Joanne Jordan

Awesome salad and dinner, however inattentive waitress combined with attitude. However, left good tip because busboy said they share tips. Other workers pulled up the slack for this person whose name starts with an ‘A’ and has three syllables. If I were to come back I would definitely ask to sit anywhere but her area for sure.

Terri Coleman

The food was good. The gentleman who served our large group was not. It appeared he didnt want to wait on us. The we had split tickets which he messed up on but we didn't want to let him know cause it already took long enough.

Carol Simpson

I love this place and eat here every time I am in Juneau. Nice view, good food, great staff!

Michael Wade

Everything we had was top notch: From the microbrew selection to the steamed clams, to the fresh fish to the local company...Outstanding!

Massive-Headwound Harry

Friendly wait staff. The food came quickly and it was good. The ambiance was nice with the view of Gastineau Channel. I was there for a business lunch.

Erin Rae

Halibut Chowder is delicious. Would have been 5 stars but service was not good. Waitress not friendly, had to ask for napkin and silverware after chowder was brought to the table.

Cindy Frank

VERY GOOD FOOD!! we ate outside it was awesome!! big windows and you can see the cruise ships right there!! sea planes right there taking off as well in the busy summertime in Juneau on the docks we went in early Sept. VERY memorable!!

Mark Kittleson

Service was good. Great selection of beers. Pleasant ambience. We only had the calamari and it was mostly bland.

Kristen Bateman

We ordered the Halibut fish and chips as well as the chowder. Everything was delicious and the view of the water while you eat could not be beat! If you’re looking for amazing seafood with a great view this is the place to go!

Robin Curtis

Unfortunately, we were not at all impressed and based on our experience would not recommend. From the lack of service to the bland food, it was mediocre and way over priced. We specifically chose the restaurant off of the reviews and felt let down. The server talked my husband out of getting the cod & chips and suggested that the Halibut & chips was so much better. Although he didn't have anything to compare to, he said that fish had absolutely no flavor and had to soak it in malt vinegar to enjoy. I had the Halibut tacos and again, no flavor. The pico was probably the best part of the meal. Also, not once did the server return to ask how we liked our food or to refill our tea glasses. When she did return she only asked if we were through and then brought our checks. Being servers ourselves, we always tip very well & this dinner was no different. However, in our experience it was overpriced and not enjoyable. We have had much better seafood in Colorado.

Capt Tim

Great local spot with hometown charm and an incredible view. Food is tasty and lots of beers to choose from.

D C

Without exception, the best halibut chowder, for that matter any chowder, we've ever had anywhere in the world. No exaggeration. Service was great. View of the water and ships accentuated a wonderful family dining experience.

Robert Lobue

They had some incredible service there. Our server recognized that the steak was slightly over done and gave us a 20% discount. You were not planning on complaining at all. Very good sense of humor as all of them had. Definitely recommend!

Tracie Peters

Really great ... primarily the view, thus the 5 stars. The burger was thin but good. The crab cakes were excellent. I do recommend as the fish and chips looked delish too. Fresh and reasonable, super friendly staff.

Leslie Fox

Terrible service and management. This restaurant was recommended by a Juneau local. I was seated outside and my server took my order. Someone else brought it and then I sat there with no service for 45 minutes, an empty water and tea glass, etc. I finally flagged down another server and someone new came out to fill my water glass. Turns out my server had left for another job and no one had claimed me. I asked for my bill and then sat there for another 15 minutes. I got up, went inside, paid my bill and asked for the manager. He came over and I told him that I had had no service and he said “I’m sorry” and didn’t so much as comp my tea. I tipped 20 percent anyway as I don’t know which server screwed up and there are people who share tips who did nothing wrong. The halibut nachos were just OK. I am sad that this will be my last meal in Juneau.

Mike Grosshans

Food was a bit overpriced, quality was good. I would have rated it higher but the waiter seemed to either disliked his job, had something else to do or on his mind. He seemed to want to be somewhere else and really didn't want to give good customer service or to be polite to us. It was not that busy when we were there. There were several open booths. Good news is we are just tourists and will most likely never be back. I'd suggest to check out one of the other MANY more eating places. Otherwise risk getting our server. Again... maybe he was just having a bad day. Maybe should have taken the day off.

Teresa Messerli

Wonderful service by a super friendly staff. The grilled halibut burger was delicious. I had a cup of halibut chowder on the side, it was thick, creamy and chock full of halibut. The view was spectacular, we enjoyed watching the float planes come and go. We will definitely be back!

Alan Semon

First thing to mention is the weird, wait to be seated or hunt down your own table thing upon entering. Still, the service was good and the food , including the local beer, was delicious. Right on the water and you can watch the seaplanes take off which is pretty fun. Food was well cooked and there was a nice variety on the menu.

Tyler Branch

Great atmosphere. Outstanding halibut and chips

James Lenkiewicz

Cool spot with great views of the cruise ships and sea planes flying in for the evening. The wait staff were incredibly friendly. 10/10 would recommend

sari r

Excellent restaurant. Terrific view. Good service. Love the food!!

Ali Ragan

Really nice location and atmosphere. However, Our waitress was very unfriendly and the food was subpar for the price. Very dry salmon, half of the crab legs were empty and the chowder was bland.

Bonnie Wesselhoff

Great location. If you want a booth windowside- make a reservation!

Jenny Howes

Great food and a great atmosphere. 100% recommend.

Tyeen Taylor

Good food, good beer, good service, decent prices, cool spot, good atmosphere. Asked for no straws and server said "I never give straws unless people specifically ask". Hear hear!

hannah rogers

came for the vegetarian options. Pretty busy at 7pm on a Sunday. I found a seat at the bar. It was so hot I chose to sit outside. Ended up being surrounded by cigarette smoke and couldn’t enjoy the nice weather outside so I moved back inside to the bar. The veggie tacos were amazing. Service was pretty good. The WiFi worked!

Pamela Tapert

Really good burgers, clean, staff were awesome, you can watch the sea planes land from your table and ocean waves ,Cruise ships

Nearsighted Nelly

Great service with a great view. One of my favorite spots in Juneau

Jagdish Yellesetty

Great waterfront dining with great views. Halibut and chips are very good. They do seafood well.

Porcupine2x

Great views of the seaplanes coming and going, good beer selection, friendly staff, and some of the better food in the area. Prices in line for what you get. Worth waiting for.

Melody Halderman

I like it, but if you don't mind the alcohol environment, then it's a good place to visit. It's kinda like a bar,& a restaurant all in one. I haven't seen any children in there though. It's not a place i go to very often, but it has some darn good food, for a fairly good price too. So, it's an excellent place for adults to have a quiet bite to eat, or otherwise. I don't know what their policy is on whether kids are able to go into there, or not. Check it out for yourself,& see if you like it, like me. They're real nice,& (as far as i was able to tell), they're very polite too.

Douglas Lacher

We stopped in for dinner to try the fish and chips. The service was not great, but the fish and chips were worth the wait. Great restaurant on the water. The rootbeer had a sarsaparilla flavor and was unique, in a good way.

Cheyenne Girmscheid

Great environment, service, and food. Can be busy and loud at times.

Dennis McMillan

Sat outside, the food was good, service was also. The planes coming and going was quite noisy but very much enjoyed watching them land and take off

Troy Rinehart

Great food with a great view. Halibut and chips, Idaho fries, and calamari was delicious. Excellent beer selection on tap.

Troy Mclaughlin

Good food. Nice and hot. Good views and good vibe. Little bit of an odd place to walk into. Kinda feels like an abandon mall entrance but the restaurant is killer
