This Restaurant is included in the category of American restaurant.
Very pleasant atmosphere and professional attitude. On the bacon side-wish they would put the bacon on a rack sideways, so the excess grease can drop off. Instead of laying flat were as the bacon would be saturated in it's fat (greasely).
a very standard diner with standard diner food. which is to say, a dependable choice if you're looking for simple comfort foods. i do love that they serve breakfast all day. neat upstairs area with some hodge podge of Alaskan native/cabin style decor. service was fast and friendly, though i think there might have been a better, more special choice of meal to order that wasn't a standard bacon, egg and flapjack.
Well, this place looks like a small town restaurant, with decor from the 60's but I kinda like that look, reminds me of my grandparents, but there were lots of flies flying around in the middle of winter, odd. The food wasn't good, it was boring and expensive for something that looked like it came out of a hospital cafeteria. Not impressed and I'm allergic to wheat/flour so they didn't have much options for me personally. They did give me the best hot chocolate though, and the waitress was a sweetheart. I hope this place can work on their menu, food quality and update the atmosphere. We won't be going back here
Yes, this place is a bit touristy but not overly so and the food's great!
Service was good. Food was good and portions were excellent. Restaurant was full and flow was great. The variety on the menu worked great for our group.
Decent food more or less friendly staff...
Great restaurant if you ever come to Alaska you must go here they have a wishing well inside and I bear some other things mounted on the wall really Alaskan place to go
I travel for my job and ive eaten at many breakfast places but Gwennies by far made the best Omelet ive ever had. Im sorry that i dont live in Alaska this would be a one of my stops on the way home everyday. Hats off to the cook!!!!!!
Its always been a great local spot! Every time I have family or friends that come to visit, I'll always bring them here. Great food, friendly staff and the rustic look is very captivating for visitors.
Cash only. Worth a visit here as it seems the locals eat here often - seems less touristy than the places in downtown. Food is mostly fried, but good. Prices are reasonable for Anchorage.
So great we drove through the earthquake this morning to make it to breakfast. I would have driven through even higher magnitudes for the generous portion sizes and refreshing hospitality we discovered here. Not only was going here one of the best decisions of the day, but an educational one to say the least. 10/10 would recommend, especially during and earthquake.
Food was good and service was fast. Waitress was rude.
Friendly service and food was so delicious that I accidentally bit myself while eating. I'll try slow down next time around.
Good Diner food...kinda expensive but everything is in Alaska... I had the Halibut was fried .. it was good.
Great breakfast and service. Friendly staff and customers.
Good food and better service. Can't wait to come back
Very good food and service. Will definitely visit again on my next trip back to Alaska
Service may be a little slow, but food is always great...
Inexpensive but still not worth it. Got the crab legs. They brought them open "so you don't have to fight it". This also means they came dry and flavorless. The side options were even worse, the carrots tasted canned. The waitress spilled the sauce from the salad on the table and the butter from the crab on me. And then I still had to wait to pay because the girl was gone.
Food was good, service was great. You can tell that the place has been here for a while. The interior could use an update, new furniture.
Beautiful place (rustic) and good foods and reasonable prices and polite staff are the positive points about Gwennie's. The only pointbthat you have keep in mind is " portions are huge", so unless you habe huge appetite, order one portion for 2 persons. Specially try their Reindeer sausage. It is really tasty.
Love this place. Been coming forever. Good food served with great personality.
Fantastic food and a nice, quiet dining experience. I recommend anything with reindeer sausage!
Gwennie's is one of those places you just have to go to. Food is good, staff is friendly and helpful. We have been here for breakfast and lunch. Both were excellent.
Excellent atmosphere and friendly staff. The Denver omelet my husband ordered delicious and the eggs over easy was perfect.
Always fun gobs of food too much whip cream on the waffles! No FRESH strawberries still good though. Wait staff friendly.
We were wanting to try a new place while visiting Alaska. We went to the restaurant early. There were 2 or 3 care in the parking lot. All these patrons we're at the bar. The atmosphere was typical Alaskan with an added stuffed bear in the middle of the floor. Breakfast is served all day. The BLT sandwich, clam chowder, and French toast were good. We were not impressed enough to visit it again while we were there. Average food but a good waitress.
Great portions, super friendly service, and nice atmosphere.
Quaint, little rustic little restaurant. Walls are made of stone and log timber. Lots of antiques and native artifacts, animals, antlers and a wishing pond. Be sure to toss the bear some change! The service was excellent. The people are …
Fast service, great food. Would recommend to everyone.
Best breakfast in town. Chicken fried steak FTW
Still great food. Great Alaskan atmosphere.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere. Great to get crab legs somewhere other than at one of the downtown fancy restaurants. Waitress was very friendly enjoyed the asparagus and the beef soup.
Great food and Alaska setting. Large portions and fast friendly service.
Very good lunch, awesome service and the reindeer cabbage soup FANTASTIC!
The perfect place for good friends to have a good meal
An incredibly quirky locale. Large portions served quickly.
Good food. Superb old style decor. Really large portions, you won't leave hungry !
Gwennies is one of my favorite places to go!
I love this place. Always busy so be aware of peak times. It's also very loud in there, so if you are planning on deep conversations, you may want to go elsewhere. It's fun. Family centered and the food is good too.
Great service and old school comfort food
Great comfort food like always! We always bring our out of town family members here so they can get an Alaskan breakfast experience.
Decor is perfect first impression of Alaska. Food is even better
The wife says quite possibly the best meal ever. Crabs Benedict. OMG. Must try this one.
A loved restuarant by Alaskans and tourists alike. Great Alaskan family atmosphere. Delicious food. Great service.
Today was the firat time I was there in a year and I think it got worse. Biscuit was not fresh it was hard and dry even with gravy it was bad.. Idk if we will be back so sad
Service was great! Good was pricey and just okay...

The service was excellent. The people are friendly and accommodating. I don't understand what others have complained about the price though. We found this to be exceptionally reasonable and the food was delicious and the portions were large. By far the most cost-effective meal we've eaten in Anchorage that's far. We will be back!
Fast service, great food. Would recommend to everyone.
Best breakfast in town. Chicken fried steak FTW

This place is amazing but come hungry! It’s enough food for an army. I ordered the English burger (cheese burger with bacon). That bacon was spectacular. I don’t think I’ve ever described bacon as that. My brother got the crab Benedict and it looked amazing as well.
Awesome food, great staff you will not leave hungry! Love the decor
Two words. Steak sandwich. We stopped by here on a recommendation from our tour guide. We had originally planned on going elsewhere, but there was a festival in the area and getting there would be difficult. We had a party of 17 and had a short wait, but nothing too bad. Their menu is pretty extensive, but has all of the staples you'd want. I settled on the steak sandwich and boy was I happy. I originally thought it'd be slices of meat, but was surprised when a nice strip was brought out. The meat was flavorful and a nice size for the roll. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.
It was a wonderful experience with a friendly, homely feel. It even had its own grizzly bear (stuffed) in the middle of the main room! You need to go to this place hungry as they are very generous with the food portions. The ribs a friend had were piled high! I sampled reindeer sausage for the first time. Very tasty!
Delicious! Sweet waitress too.
When you can turn a standard breakfast into brunch, I'm all in! The portions are huge! A lot of places serve heaps of food to make up for something the restaurant is lacking. You won't find that at Gwennies. I ordered chicken fried steak and a order of pancakes. My eggs were cooked exactly how I ordered and my chicken fried steak was everything. The gravy didn't make the breading soggy. The pancakes were fluffy and cooked through. The beer was cold a major plus, you can buy the glasses! I went into comatose after this great meal!
Great food and service! Their monte cristo was huge and so yummy. We paid under $100 to feed 6 of us. Well worth it!
Christina was an amazing waitress! She even ran after us to give my husband back his phone he had left on the table. She had a great smile, and personality. The food was awesome also.
The food at this place is great. Loved it A local restaurant and they are busy. We had a large party so ended up waiting for almost an hour for a table to seat all of us.
Quite that evening, I had soup, nice and filling! Other person had 12 Cocktail shrimp excellent!
Our mission team of 22 had a great breakfast...cool place to look around...
Best restaurant in anchorage. Have been to Gweenies several times the last few years and it is always great. The seafood is awesome especially the king crab. Best I have ever had and I have been all over the world.
Gwennie's was awesome!! Superb service and big plates. Food was well cooked and full of love. Local hangout that serves families in the community. I'd recommend the reindeer sausage and french toast. Endless coffee too!!
It was decent but having cheese sauce covering everything it was not great. My friend had chicken fried steak and grits and said it was good.
This is the place you go if friends and family come up and want an authentic Alaskan experience. You can get Alaskan food like reindeer sausage and king crab. It also had an Alaskan "feel" like a taxidermy bear in the middle of the place.
Best place in Anchorage to bet a good Alaskan meal
It’s a quaint place and our server was very friendly, but the food was very mediocre. The veggies were from a can with zero seasoning, the fried chicken also needed seasoning and the batter was very thin. Basically it’s all very bland.
Gwennie's is my go to place when I want breakfast like grandma cooked it. Great service, huge portions, fair prices.
Amazing food and service. They were super quick. Love the old looking scene
Bring your appetite or split a meal. If you leave hungry it's your own fault.
A must-visit when you’re in Anchorage! Good prices, large portions, great food.
I’m in anchorage for the night and decided to give this place a try. Lisa was so friendly and hospitable. Great food recommendations and huge portions for the price you pay. Was very tasty.
This is a destination restaurant. They have collected quite a bit of Alaskan history Into this two story restaurant on spenard. Their food is excellent and the portions are big. The staff are helpful and friendly. I reccomend their reindeer sausage. It is excellent.
Really good and quality food, I loved the English burger, Also the omlette with bacon, and their crab legs or claws are really good, burgers, omlltes, awesome place, bacon tastes SO good compared to other restaurants, never had such good food before at a restaurant
Traveling while vegan can be tricky, but these folks were great! I asked for a veggie omelette, hold the eggs and cheese and they came up with an amazing dish. It was so good, the waitress ordered it for her own breakfast and now they are …
Best King
Food was ok, staff was friendly. Breakfast food was better than dinner food.
Food was great, a bit old fashioned atmosphere wise. And staff was dressed very unprofessionally. Like pajama-ish, a bit unkept like. Don't think I would go back.
Great place for a Awesome Home cooked Breakfast like Mom use to make! Everything on menu is worth a try. Friendly and very helpful staff. Fast, and great food, even when busy. Prices fair and worth it...just remember to tip your waitress. You will definitely go back for more. Great old school history and decor of ture Alaskan Folk lore.
Great comfort food.not the cheapest but an awesome atmosphere.
Great fun place and good food. Thanks Kat for the good service.
A local classic loaded with character. Go for breakfast and try the reindeer sausage.
You gotta go here if you're in Alaska the food is great you might have to wait a little bit but it's worth it the people are nice and friendly I can't say enough about this place I would highly recommend to anybody
Great food. Generous servings. Old Alaska atmosphere. Great staff
I love going to this place for breakfast , really good, and super fast service and very friendly staff

I just love this place. Huge portions, great flavor, excellent ambiance. It's rustic and homegrown and truly Alaskan. Ask your server about item sizes because half of an order is a ton (like half the biscuits and gravy is two full …
Busy sunday morning atmosphere. Big hearty Alaskan portions. Decent alternative to the local breakfast diners around town.
Great I would recommend to anyone!
The portion sizes are unreal for a great price. Everything we ordered was fantastic.
A nice cozy atmosphere with great waitresses. The prices are not bad for the amount of food you're getting. Small menu that is easy to read and not cluttered with choices. They don't have southern sweet tea, but my overall experience was great. I got to customize my breakfast order; which by the way is served all day. I got shrimp and grits, with an crab/venison omelet; 2 thumbs up!!! The crab is real crab as well.
Nice place to eat, good food and good service
Good food but pricey
Great food great service we ate there twice
Old fashioned good cooking. Great environment and people
A wonderful spot for good food - portions are big & flavor is great. Service was friendly & prompt. Down home feeling & atmosphere. Would highly recommend this restaurant!!
They are very kind. The food was served fast and hot. The place is cozy. Ask for de Clam Chowder & the Ham & Cheese!
Good people, attention to customer service, and a good old fashioned diner menu make Gwennie's an Alaskan treasure. It can get very busy, but when your full plates arrive, it's worth the wait. Since it's local, they will accustom your order to your preferences.
I was happy with everything we got, but I wanted to take the time to draw specific attention to one thing... THE BACON! It is not the bacon of normal mortals. They apparently dust it with magic because it's unlike any bacon I've ever had. Cooked perfectly, the meaty parts were tender and the fatty parts were rendered down exactly the way pork belly should be. Not overcooked and crunchy, but not also not undercooked and chewy. At 43, it's not often I can honestly say I've just had "the best in my life" of any particular thing, bit this bacon is exactly that. I'm really sad I live 1200 miles south and won't be able to have it every single day.
A quaint little restaurant with great service! Staff are so friendly & take care of your needs!
What an absolutely cool, eclectic, and charming eatery! The food is very good, as well. From the first moment we went in and up those funky stairs, we knew we were in for a treat -- and it certainly was. Our server, Trina, made it a point to engage us with light banter; she set the lighthearted tone for the entire room. She was quick, too. I was rather surprised at how fast everything arrived especially since she didn't seem to have any assistance. The food is comfort food. It's plentiful and good. If you have hungry people, this is a great selection. Gwennie's is the kind of relaxed family atmosphere that sets a great ambience for a substantial day or night of activities.
My wife and I had dinner here the other night, and it was great. The service was amazingly friendly, and very accommodating. The food was great too. It is a very family friendly establishment, and if you’re looking for a good spot, and not have to worry about dressing up this is it.
Food and service as good as it was 33 years ago.
My husband couldn't stop talking about the chicken fried steak and gravy
Food in the service was very good will always return
Great food great fast service still the best
I have always had a good experience here either with my family or with friends. They've always been very generous in letting me mix up my order to make it more keto friendly for myself.
Classic American Breakfast in a welcoming environment. Darling and sweet staff.
Come hungry...large portions of great food! And the place is covered in memorabilia! Take the time to read!
Had a fabulous meal and a superb server at Gwennie's! Our server was Tricia, she was just fabulous, positive, gave great food recommendations (like the sausage gravy with fried potatoes) and super fun! Thank you to the chefs at Gwennie's our meals were and always are super delicious! I recommend Gwennie's to anyone who loves Alaska, super terrific servers, great home cooked kind of meals, excellent prices for huge servings, and fantastic tasting bloody mary's Thank you Gwennie's for always hitting it out of the park for a home run!!
Big Alaska sized portions in this historic landmark warmed my heart and my belly. Don't miss upstairs
It's bar food with a Twist. Great ambiance, normal food that won't disappoint you. Everyone in there seem to be having a good time. Even those who don't look like they're having a good time they sure are eating the food. Cuz we all know those grumpy ones.
AMAZING breakfast!! Crab omelette was fantastic, fluffy eggs and tender, fresh crab. Gravy was savory and not heavy. Bloody mary topped it off. Neat history on the walls, be sure to grab a bumper sticker!
The atmosphere is excellent. The service was great. The food was disappointing.
This should be your top priority of places to visit if you are flying in or out of Ted Stevens Airport. An Alaskan treasure to eat and explore the decor of Alaskan History.
Still good does and awesome service! Defineitly a place of historical feel of Alaska. Stop there, and you won't regret it!
A carafe of hot coffee and a pitcher of ice water awaits you at tour table. We ate breakfast 2 egg special with an upcharge for reindeer sausage (worth it). We also had a mushroom omelette and grits which was ok - large portion
Decent Denver omelet, potatoes could have been crisper, but I understand the immense pressure that an entire tour bus plus regular patrons can place on a line cook in a kitchen. Good service from wait staff. Housed in a cool older building.
Food better than your Mom's, big portions, and inexpensive!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Real tasty food, has been consistently good for years. Hadn't been to Alaska in 6 years. Walked into Gwennie's and it tasted just as good as the last visit. Service was slow, but I will keep going back
Really fun at the sphere great staff I had the crab benedict it was amazing portions are large ask for a box
Very interesting restaurant, with a menu of good variety, including seafood and reindeer sausage. Staff was very nice, and the prices are fair.
Huge breakfast portions. Large enough to split.
Alaskan classic. Denver omelet with cheese sauce is so good.
Local commodity. Comfort foods. Good service.
A wonderful old Anchorage landmark restaurant...Full menu and breakfast anytime! Good, wholesome food.
Excellent service and enormous servings. Almost too beautiful to eat!
Surprisingly really good food and good size portions. Being that it's Alaska, prices are higher than the lower 48. Would definitely return.
Great food and staff

I have a hard time with a 1 star. I was ill from the grease . I saw a mouse running across the floor. My child went to bathroom downstairs and found a needle. I recommend you never eat here.

They've always been very generous in letting me mix up my order to make it more keto friendly for myself.
visited from Oklahoma, was told this place was a must.. and i certainly agree.. was amazing food.
Service was slow, but I will keep going back
Very interesting restaurant, with a menu of good variety, including seafood and reindeer sausage. Staff was very nice, and the prices are fair.
Huge breakfast portions. Large enough to split.
Good food, good service
Alaskan classic. Denver omelet with cheese sauce is so good.
Local commodity. Comfort foods. Good service.
An Alaskan institution every anchorite should eat here once a year at least
Awesome food and service
A wonderful old Anchorage landmark restaurant...Full menu and breakfast anytime! Good, wholesome food.
Excellent service and enormous servings. Almost too beautiful to eat!
Excellent Atmosphere and delicious food.
Surprisingly really good food and good size portions. Being that it's Alaska, prices are higher than the lower 48. Would definitely return.
I was here on a trip from nyc and stopped in to Gwennie’s at the recommendation of our host. I can’t imagine what our trip would’ve been without it. The interior of this place is amazing, there was plenty to look at. The menu ROCKED wow!!! I had an avocado and cheese omelette and I was impressed at how big the plate was AND how delicious it was!!! Yes!! You must stop here if you’re visiting, you won’t regret it.
Phenomenal food, country fried steak and eggs are amazing!! Super filling too and the service is outstanding
You know what to expect. Lots of food with consistent high quality. I like all you can eat beef ribs or french dip.
Ordered the T-Bone it came out great. However the green beans were canned and had no other flavor, no onion or bacon mixed in. The potatoes and gravy were both from packages. Nothing was homemade.
My wife and I ate dinner here and thought the decorations were quite fitting for visiting Alaska for the first time. There's an old timey car with metal fabricated reindeer just outside the restaurant. Then, there's a brown bear as soon as you walk in along with lots of other stuffed animals and racks of antlers hanging on the walls throughout the restaurant. There's an upstairs dining room which is where we sat. I ordered a chili burger with onion rings and my wife ordered a BLT with fries(crinkle). Both were delicious. The service was good and prices more reasonable than going to Wendy's or McDonald's...seriously. I hope you enjoy your visit and food!
Friendly service and tasty food. We had the French dip and chicken fried steak. Both were excellent! Also loved the home fries. The corn that came with the chicken fried steak tasted like school cafeteria corn and the salad was pretty much just bagged with bottled dressing. If you don't care about the vegetables then the food is five stars based on what we ate.
Phenomenal service! Delicious food! They have breakfast all day, seriously plus for me. Quiet and quaint. Overall great experience and fair prices too. If I’m ever back in Anchorage, I will definitely stop on by.
If you are in Anchorage during breakfast time, stop in for a great meal. Typical Alaskan decor for a great Alaskan restaurant. Easy to find, close to the airport and plenty of parking available. Prices are reasonable and wait staff is friendly and accommodating.
Wonderful, rustic, diner-type restaurant. Was our first breakfast stop in Anchorage. Portions are enormous!
Great food, great service, huge portions
Very nice. Great food.
Staff were friendly, food was delicious and decent sized meals. we didn't have to wait long for our meals to arrive. My Dad ordered the beef sub and couldn't finish it as it was a huge meal, but he raved about it. I had the smoke salmon with veggies and fries and also couldn't finish, not because the food wasn't delicious. May go there for breakfast tomorrow:)
Excellent food, great service. Definitely recommend stopping in for breakfast!
This is the best place to get breakfast. Satisfaction guaranteed
The atmosphere here is awesome and homey. Large portions, plenty of leftovers to take home. The wait staff are really nice and have been doing this for a long time, they will have good suggestions.
First time I stopped in for breakfast. Staff was great. Family atmosphere. But very disappointed in the food. Thus my 3 stars.
This is an eatery where you are just as likely to see a local as a tourist. Gwennies is a well-established business that offers good food in an unusual and casual atmosphere. There is a bar and some restaurant seating downstairs. More seating is upstairs. The menu has a diverse selection of family favorites with large portions and reasonable prices.
Gwennie's was a fun place to start off our day. They offered a great selection of delicious food and a fun environment. It was a bit pricier than I am used to, but most things in Alaska are. I would recommend this place to travelers and locals! They had a sign that said to ask about how to get a shirt and a paddle. I accidentally asked about being spanked for a shirt and the waitress laughed and explained that it had to do with a beer flight they put inside of a boat paddle, so that made more sense. It was a great time!
The food was good and reasonably priced, but they seated is upstairs looking out the windows. They should really get someone to take care of the mess growing on the flatter parts of the roof, there were plants at least a foot high in some of the roof drain vents.
Food is great, ambience is wonderful, service fantastic. Be sure to check it out
Great breakfast spot with great staff lots of great decor
The crab benedict was very good. Great place to eat breakfast in Anchorage. The scenery is also great.
Decent food, nothing special. Large portions. Pretty fast service even on a Sunday at lunch. Cool info about Alaska, neat decorations including pictures of the big earthquake in the '60s, a wishing well, stuffed game animals, and other cool indoor water features.
Prefer upstairs seating, hits the spot everytime. Delicious and very filling.
Excellent food. Celine was a great bartender/server. Locals are great. Did I mention the food... excellent selection, well priced and very yummy! If my plane is delayed anymore I am going BACK for more!
Excellent steak and eggs with crispy home fries. If you come up to Anchorage, Gwennie's is a must.
I love the breakfast. Dinner style food all should try at least once.
Great Alaskan decor! But okay-ish food (the biscuits and gravey specifically).
This is a fun place to go, it has been around for many years. The food portions are healthy and the staff is friendly. It has an older Alaskan themed interior with creek-rock walls and and its own pond. You can never go wrong with a breakfast omelet here, they are giant and yummy. Sough dough pancakes are also amazing. They have a full bar for those of you who want to drink with the locals in Spenard. Parking is plenty so you don't have to worry about that. The restaurant is Located in a part of Anchorage called "Spenard" which is an old neighborhood that is quite colorful. It's close to the airport so if you are just stopping by Anchorage for a layover and don't feel like airport food its only a $10 cab ride there (one way). Totally worth checking this place out.
It's always busy when we stop by, but for a good reason. The food is great. But it can be a bit loud if there is a crowd.
We feel a bit foolish as we have driven past on our previous visits to Anchorage despite staying nearby. We ate at Gwennies 3 times during our stay and on every occasion we enjoyed some good old American cooking at a very fair price. Best of all was the service we had, we really had a good laugh on every visit with our waiter. I cannot speak for the bar as I we did not stay for a beer afterwards. Why on earth did we not discover Gwebnies before, our mistake for sure.
Great service, Great food. When your starving from the flight in, or from being in the bush... be sure to stop here for a great breakfast or a steak dinner
Friendly family restaurant. The Bear is cool.
The menu is homestyle as you would expect from the look of the outside. The roast beef was huge and awesome (3/4 lbs of meat) If you want to know where the locals hang out this is it! Some may call it "dated" but it fits the building in my opinion. Great deal on drinks. Shots are HUGE. Ask for a "Gwennies" amaretto, pineapple juice and a splash of cranberry juice. Thank me later
Awful, terrible and overpriced. Fish and chips? More like fish sticks. And for $28 usd. McDonalds has better food. Bright side - our waitress was great.
Great place to eat real Alaskan food. However, remember restaurants in Alaska are not cheap!
