This Restaurant belongs to the category of American restaurant.
Excellent dinner. Crab cakes and meatloaf. Excellent Blueberry Cobbler for dessert. Lovely seeing right on the river with outdoor seating available. Great menu with lots of seafood.
So so so delicious. My mom and I ordered the seafood chowder and the crab cakes, and asked for two spoons to the chowder so we could split it. The waitress had the cook split both entrees onto two dishes so that we each got our own plate of the crab cakes and chowder. The food was so yummy, well balances flavors, and beautiful presentation. Right on the river with beautiful outdoor seating space.
Great food. Great service. Great view. Can't avoid this place whenever I'm in Fairbanks.
We are here at the start and end of our trip to Alaska, in all trying 4 different dishes. Quality sea (and land) food. Pretty location. Pretty sure someone in the kitchen forgot about our order the first time as we waited over 20 minutes but the second time the service was fast. Employees were accommodating when we showed up 30 minutes before they stopped seating. Oh and their music was good.
Great food and service.
Loved being able to eat outside on the deck ♡
Great local place! A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Highly recommend.
Had my birthday dinner here last night. It was a wonderful experience. The cook who I found out was Robert McGee cooked my steak to the perfect rare it was beautiful and so tender it pretty much melted in my mouth. The mashed potatoes were hot which surprised me because most places they wnd up being cold. I felt very special the serving staff (everyone of them) came by my table and wished me a happy birthday. Our server Greg was the best (we have had him last year) he already knew that we would want creamer and sweetener with our coffee and knew to being the pot. Such a great guy love hearing some of his life stories. Told him that he should be wearing a black or a blue shirt instead of the green. Before the end of our meal Mr. Tongue, the chef Darren Biggs and the cook Robert McGee all came out and wished me a happy birthday. I was feeling just a little low this year I normally don't mind my age I usually embrace it but this year I didn't want to get that one year older. They all made me feel good to embrace being 47. Thank you to everyone last night for the wonderful memorable birthday I will have.
Food and service were exceptional.
Yummy chowder, great drinks. Beautiful River view. A/C would have given five stars to this review!
You guys need to update your hours since I’m outside on a Sunday and said that it opens till 10pm and no one here.
BEST SERVICE AND FOOD IN THE WHOLE TOWN By far this restaurant is our favorite place in town to eat. The Chef has creative meals planned daily and the service is amazing. We have Olivia as a waitress today and she was fantastic: very friendly, she knew the menu well and she had great recommendations for our meals. We brought my mom here for dinner and she said that her Margarita was the best she has ever had. Compliments to the whole team at The Chena's Alaskan Grill.
Salmon & the halibut are my favorites. Their special margherita is also very good. Spinach & Avocado salad is good. No complaints whatsoever - try to get Greg as your server
Relaxing evening with great food. Staff were engaging, courteous, and entertaining. Stacy, the mixologist, was delightful as we waited for our table, Carolina, the hostess, was cordial and friendly, and Olivia, our waitperson, was efficient, attentive, and most helpful.
Consistantly outstanding food. Beautiful deck view. Good value.
Friendly staff, delicious Bürgers and beer. Greetings the german guys
Very good food
Absolutely wonderful experience, delightful service and world class food. Halibut special was spectacular and apple cobbler and huckleberry ice cream were delish!
If you like waiting 3 hours for way overpriced food then this is the place for you.
Coming to Alaska (again) I had to have non-fried Halibut. I’m glad I chose Chena Alaskan Grill even thought its a little pricey (but isn’t everything in Alaska). I had the special for the day I went which was Mexican oregano halibut. It was cooked to perfection. It came with basmati rice and roasted vegetables. Also came with a scrumptious sauce. If I had to give one suggestion it would be to put more of that sauce on the plate. Service was fantastic from the friendly Kela. Had a couple of friends who are Salmon fans and they said it blew away the Salmon Bake. Great place, good food and friendly service.
Can't get a table for two on the patio.
Gem. On the river, excellent service, pairings on the menu with 3 pages of selections. Lots of veggie and even vegan faire.... 5 stars. A little freeway noise, but its dinner in a city... We had the honey halibut, 30 bucks and awesomeness. Beef stroganoff was rich and creamy. Kiddo friendly with 10 items on their 8$ menu Gregg the waiter killed it. Very pro!
Yummy!
First time here was a good time. Service was spectacular. Food was incredible. I had the halibut with apple almond honey sauce and sampled several appetizers. The duck spring rolls were yummy. Will definitely be back.
Great service and food...a must for locals to try
The best Halibut I’ve had so far in Washington state and Alaska. My husband loved the Salmon as well. Service is slow, but friendly and accurate.
Good food and friendly attentive staff
Nice place right on the river with great food and great service.
Great food, service and view on outdoor seating.
Very helpful and accommodating staff. Delicious food. Decent prices.
Excellent quality keep up the good work the best service seen in Alaska so far.
Don't remember being here
Excellent staff and food
Casual restaurant but with wholesome fresh fish dishes. The fare is traditional but the fish was very fresh and delicious. The staff is very friendly.
I had a bad experience with this restaurant on Mother's Day as I was seated for 30 minutes with only water on my table. It turned out that my server had not arrived yet but they still had the nerve to sit me at a table and make us wait. I do love their food and still wanted to give it another chance. We went back yesterday to see if their service had changed. Their food is amazing and that factor kept calling me back. The food did not disappoint me at all but their wait time for everything is terrible. There is a long wait to get your drinks, bread, entrée, dessert...you get the picture. That has not changed from the last time that I was there. It is frustrating. I spent a total of two and a half hours at the place. Our entrees took 1 hour to get to our table. There were people around my table complaining to the manager about the time issue. I decided to just let it be this time and enjoy my meal. Everything was cooked to perfection and super yummy. Too bad that patrons have to wait so long.
Great food. Great service. Great view. Can't avoid this place whenever I'm in Fairbanks.
This year the food is good last year it was spotty. Make sure you call ahead.
Very disappointed in service and the prices holy cow, since when do u have to pay for a salad or soup for 8 dollars above and beyond your food I'll stick to lavelles better food and service and I don't have to pay for a salad on top of my dinner
The food was phenomenal, the service was exceptionally friendly, but there were long gaps where we didn't see them. We'd go back, but don't be in a hurry.
The food was amazing! Largely all Alaskan fare and so delicious. The appetizer bread was some of the best bread I've ever had Ambiance was nice, clean, and basic inside. The outside deck and setting are beautiful, but it was a bit too cold for us to dine there that day
Sehr lange Wartezeit für einen Tisch, dass Essen aber war absolut Fantastisch!
Super service, friendly staff and great food
We set out on the patio right next to the river. The View was fabulous. The food was great and reasonably priced for Alaska however I didn't give them five stars because they don't have dessert. We had to go somewhere else later.
Decent food, good beers. A bit overpriced due to location next to resort. Reindeer meatloaf was tasty.
The deck outside on a lovely day is the best way to dine here. Food well prepared and service is good. A bit off the beaten path and so not inundated with tourists.
I had the Seafood Fettuccine and it was incredible. The service was great. The bread and basil pesto was excellent, and the iced tea was delicious. The price was reasonable. I would highly recommend Chena's.
The table seemed sticky. The wait staff had poor hygiene. She wiped her mouth and then touched our drinks. The service was really slow and while they apologized they offered no compensation. I even heard the waitstaff discuss with each other how to prepare their customers for the wait after they'd been seated. I felt the food was way over priced. I had the linguine and really thick almost chucky soup. Limeade was heavy lime and heavy sugar and lacked refreshment. Too bad we are staying at the park and love it. And would have likely eaten here again, but I wont go back now.
I read the reviews of this place before deciding to try it. Frankly, I don't know what the bad reviews were talking about. This place has a 5 star menu, and we liked every single dish we were served. I got the grilled Alaskan salmon, with a cup of chowder. Both were excellent. The fish was cooked perfectly, and you could tell the chowder was started with a slowly prepared fish stock. I have no trouble recommending this place. Prices were typical of Alaska restaurants (they are all high).
Great food nice atmosphere little pricey.
We were in Alaska for our 40th anniv. We rented a motor home in Anchorage and headed north. My wife had made reservations for the artic circle tour on Friday. We stayed at Rivers Edge camp ground Thursday and ask at the office were we could get a good meal. The girl at the desk just said walk down to the river turn left to the grill. Got seated rite away and that was it. We always order water / lemon before we order tea. Bad Water Bad Tea. Don't know if they thought i was a tight @$$ or what but that is what we do when we travel. It started to get crowded. Other people were getting drinks, bread and even food. After about 20 min. i said i would give them another 10 min and i was leaving. We were looking at the waitress they would not even look at us. I got up and headed to the door but my wife went to the counter and asked ask for the manager. After telling her the problem she just kinda shruged her shoulders which ment she really didn't care. So back to the motorhome for a microwavable meal. So good luck but have a backup plan.

You check Google maps and trip advisor and they're open. You call, no answer. You show up to the establishment, its completely closed off with yellow caution tape. Waste of time. At least update the website or the voicemail that you're seasonal or whatever the case may be...
Tried to get reservations for 2 in advance, but they refused, and said that they don't take reservations for parties less than 8, but assured us that they'd have room outside on the deck. We get there and there was no room, and nothing they could do about it. We left and went somewhere else. Don't tell us you'll have room if you can't follow through.
The fancy dinners are fabulous, well worth the $$$. Not so much for the hamburgers! Are here twice and the servers are great and so is the scenery!
I have several severe food allergies. We wanted to sit outdoors. We saw that this restaurant had a deck overlooking the river. We were seated immediately. I explained all of my allergies to the waitress. The chef then came out and spoke with me. They were friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Our food was delicious and it was completely safe for my allergies.
Closed for the winter
Great food and service, great atmosphere
Do NOT inconvenience the staff by asking to sit far from screaming babies! You WILL sit where THEY say, even though all but three or four tables are empty. After seeing how rude they are, I walked out.
We're here from Nebraska for ours families trip and stay at Riveredge resort. This restaurant is nearby the resort, so we just have for 2mins walk there. It nice and good location, you can seat outside and look at the river while you have your meal. The food here for lunch is good but dinner are pricey. It just like grill Salmon for $36.
Food is literally the only thing I liked about the restaurant, assuming of course you want to waste a whole afternoon to get it. Seriously though, I’m sure the work staff is new, but waiting two hours from seating to check (which I walked in and demanded) is ridiculous. Come on guys, shape up.
Cena eccezionale giusto in riva al fiume!decisamente suggerito a tutti!
Little pricey but excellent otherwise.
Food was amazing, service was beyond slow
Very good. Worth the stop on our Alaskan vacation
We visited this restaurant 2 days in a row. Food was the best seafood we have ever hah. What made this place the best was our server Peg. She was fabulous, down to earth, engaging and a hoot!! She gave us information,on places to see here. Peg was the best!!!
After a short wait we had great service and a wonderful meal. Our view of the river was great and our waiter was friendly and shared stories of his trips to Canada (where we were travelling from). I would recommend this restaurant to anyone local, or visiting.
They had live music!

Great food and great locations
Asked for outside seating, waitress said 20 minute Wait. Pointed out several tables available outside Sorry they are taken, B.S. Guy singing inside restaurant and was very loud Not a bad singer, but too loud for this small space I noticed everyone asked for outside seating! They all got the same BS answer. She was trying to fill the inside seating So unless you call her bluff? Enjoy the loud music Food just ok, not worth the issues
Freaking Delicious
Pretty view, very touristy, frozen hamburger not Angus maybe not all meat, over priced.
Excellent food, polite and courteous staff. A little bit pricey but totally worth it.
Waited for 15 minutes for someone to take our order, then 10 minutes later were told they were out of it. At least they comp'ed our drinks.
Lovely setting by the river. Ate outdoors on a beautiful afternoon. Great food. Good service. Highly recommend by a local to a visitor!
I had the crab cake sandwich. It was the best crab cake I have had.
Great service and staff. Little to no wait, well priced, will be back again!
FRIENDLY STAFF, GOOD SERVICE, OUTSTANDING FOOD
(Translated by Google) They got confused about wine, one of the four dishes (4 diners). The fourth was brought when the others had finished. They got confused in the note .. Bad service. (Original) Se confundieron de vino, de uno de los cuatro platos (4 comensales). El cuarto lo trajeron cuando ya habían terminado los otros. Se confundieron en la nota.. Mal servicio.
Pretty good food with an excellent Cesar salad.
Great food! After a week in Alaska, this was our favorite.
Great food and service
Unique and delicious
Not very good desk person very long wait and we did not sit down because they said there was a 2 hour wait and they did not have any people in the place and the parking lot was very small and full
Good food. Good Alaskan atmosphere.

Tried to eat late lunch (between 1 & 2 PM) 4-times now only to find them closed. Not trying again!!!!!
Selection for food was diverse.. ordered the lavender halibut with mixed veggies. The halibut was dry, and the vegetables looked like they came out of the frozen selection at the grocery store! The service was excellent, unfortunately the food didn’t even meet subpar to the our waitress!
They had no time for service. Hostess was fighting with the computer, have me help when I asked for a better table on the deck. Waitress Krystal was put out that we weren't ready to order a drink or appetizer, so we sat forever before she took our dinner order. She never offered dessert, and I had to go to the hostess desk to get a bill and pay it. BTW, the food was very good. Thus 3 stars.
Good service, food was good quality...TAD $$$$
Great food and drink. :-D
Tried three dishes. Halibut and chips were dry and old. Broche with crab cake was good, but a lot of extra bread. Clam chowder was good and salty, bread bowl was unexpected. The bread bowl deserves a star.
Pricy, but amazing food. Service was also great!
Extremely slow service. Food was very good but it took 1.5 hours to get it.
Great alaskan grill.. atmosphere along the river is fabulous.. food is a most excellent value.. drinks to stimulate the soul.. awesome place to enjoy a finer alaska! As a resident.. chenas is our first choice !! Enjoy!
Great location, food, service. Best chowder I have ever had!
The BEST Halibut pasta Ever and the service was over the top too!!
We had an excellent dinner of halibut and salmon served with perfectly cooked vegetables; delicious bread too. Ended our meal with creme brulee with Alaskan berries. By far our best meal out during our Alaska trip. Kudos to the chef and the staff people at Chena's.
We had a great meal the halibut & salmon was cooked to perfection. Our waitress, Peggy, took good care of us.
Fish was dry and rather ordinary not worth the price
wonderful place to learn about Alaskan dogs..
I had the bacon wrapped scallops. I love ordering this here because I know from past experience that the scallops always come out cooked to perfection.
Nice location, but did not have all ingredients to make BLT, really?, took over an hour to get BLTs, service poor, said they found yhe sourdough bread that the BLT was supposed to be on, but was white bread, Aoili was Hellmann's mayo...overpriced
Service was a little slow. But the food was good and serving sizes were generous. View on the river was nice for a covered Al Fresco dining experience.
Food was good, but for the cost, this restaurant was not a good value. Restaurant was in bad repair and was dirty were we were seated. Service was slow, having to ask for things several times, and was charged an automatic tip. Manager was not available.
Crab cakes and French onion soup. Amazing.
Wonderful restaurant! Good service. Presentation on the cedar planked salmon was lovely and it tasted great.
Peg was our server and she was very helpful! The food was awesome! We will go again next time we are in Fairbanks.
Wonderful dining experience, great food wonderful service, highly recommend. Can't wait for it to warm up so we can eat on the deck.
Great food and service
This was a unique hotel - little individual cottages located along the Chena river. Convenient to the rail station and airport. Nothing fancy, but it totally fit Fairbanks. Definitely would stay here again.
White salmon was delish!!
Price y
Great view of the river, a nice selection of food / beer / wine and specials. We ended up eating here on our first day in Fairbanks and liked it so much we went back for seconds.
There were 17 of us, but the service was great, did not have to wait long for the food. Filet Mignon VERY good. Will eat there again.
Delicious halibut and bread pudding!
Great food and service
Nice setting, great food. Service this evening though was slow. Overall good place to eat
Good
Great meal, great service by Peggy.
Really enjoyed dinner here. Great atmosphere. The service was excellent and the food was not a disappointment. Live guitar musician was a bonus. This is a nice, family oriented establishment.
Outstanding food, exceptional service, great ambience and a wide variety of drinks available. Easily one of the best choices in town. Reservations are highly recommended.
Not a fan of what I ate. It also wasn't served the way the menu said it shoukd b EA.
Very good food and nice portions with a good entertainment.
Has some good food, service was a little slow but very nice. Had a great time with some live music.
Friendly staff, average food , average size portion, tourist trap prices expected
Our first dining out experience in Alaska, and one that was fairly pleasant. We were warmly greeted and quickly welcomed to a seat of our choosing by the host. Shortly after our water was filled by one wait staff, followed by another wait staff taking our order. We were greeted by all 4 wait staff who served us and we're made to feel very welcome. The fettuccini chicken was fantastic as was the fresh cod. Price was a little higher than expected, but not ridiculous. Wonderful experience and was great to take short walk after dinner along the Chena river.
Very disappointed! Extremely poor service for our party of 7. The food was good for the most part. The bread was warm on the outside and frozen on the inside. Numerous server issues that made the whole experience one we’re still commiserating over.
Overall good location and staff. The fries are amazing! I will definitely be back to try more dishes from here. I just can't wait until they open the deck as well so we can sit in the sunshine. They had live music there too, nothing too loud or distracting, which was nice.
It is good place but waitresses look so tired, service is ok and food small size. Price too high .
I loved the food, at first you might think it's expensive, BUT IT'S COMPLETELY WORTH IT!!!
Excellent food and atmosphere
The food was a bit pricy, but this is a tourist area so that's par for the course. My wife and I ordered the coconut salmon and the fire roasted salmon and both were cooked well and delicious. Our waitress (Peggy I think? ) was friendly and helpful. Lively small bar area too.
View was great. Food could have been better. No flavor. To the salmon dish.
As always, a treat to eat here. Only wish they didn't close for winter. Customer service was excellent.
Great French onion soup.
Excellent food and location, especially if staying in the nearby River’s Edge Cabins. You know it’s going to be pricey, but you know they got you. There’s little else within walking distance to choose from. Not to diminish the extensive menu and the quality of food and service. Very pleasurable eating experience.
we have been to this place 3 times this year, every time it has taken them at least 20 minutes to just bring us water and over 30 minutes to get a beer, and it was about 7pm on a Friday night and the place was only half full, they don't seem to have enough wait staff ever, no matter what night you go. The bartender never smiles the food is just mediocre. save your money and don't waste your time.
Great food, great service. We were here with a tour group, so i can't speak to prices. Outside tables available overlooking the river if you would like.
Delicious food & awesome staff!
The staff were wonderful, and the food was fresh and very well prepared!
Great Food and Quality Service
Excellent Dinner
Easy walking distance from River's Edge RV Park made this a convenient choice. Our waitress was friendly, seated outside as requested. Chef's special of grilled salmon with blueberry lemon cream blend was unusual and pretty good. Filet was very tasty. River views were nice, even with a bit of drizzle outside. This was not spectacular, but good enough for us to return.
Excellent halibut, the veg's were perfect, and a very good chocolate torte. Pricey, but everything is in Fairbanks.
Service and food great .
Delicious! Got in late from the train but the staff was more than welcoming and the food was delicious.
Delicious food and a lovely view on a summer evening.
The service was poor, had to ask for our complimentary bread, waitress didn't come back to check on us. The portions were beyond small for the price! $8 per bite we calculated! Crazy! If we went to outback steakhouse we'd've been stuffed & had leftovers for the same price. Just sayin'
Wonderful seafood soup. Delightful salad dressing options. Nice spot on the banks of the Chena river.
Was very impressed tonight! We tried the crab and artichoke dip for appetizer, along with the hummus. Both were great. For entrees we had the grilled new York steak with crab cakes and the blueberry buttered salmon. Both were absolutely impressive, I can honestly say I've never had such good food before in Fairbanks. Eric was a great waiter as well, all staff was very friendly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Excellent food. Good service.
Food was excellent. Wonderful view of the Chena River and vibrant dining room. Great place to hang out in Fairbanks when you need a good meal. Ask for Liz.
Nice location. Very slow service, non-experience personel. Food was just OK. Dry halabut. Had to send cole slaw back, but it was exchanged for a nice salad. It used to be our favorite place to go in summer. Sad to see it changed.
Really good food! They had a wait so we sat at the bar. The bar tender though very busy was fun, pleasant and attentive. We would definitely go back!
Just open for tourist trade. Will not support after you will ipen in the spring.
