Unbelievably bad experience. We were there with a large group. We arrived at 6. The server took everyone's order. Several, including two of us, ordered halibut and chips with coleslaw. When orders began to arrive we were told that they didn't have any tartar sauce. I was still waiting for my halibut and chips, so I walked to the grocery store 75 yards away, bought and brought back tartar sauce for the others. We (2 of us) kept waiting for our dinner. Other tables near us which had ordered an hour after we arrived were being served. We never did get served. We finally left at 8 as the party was over. If you can't avoid going to this restaurant you must lower your expectations to the point of being non-existent so that you won't be disappointed. My best advice is to go to another restaurant.

My wife and attended a party of a large group of people the restaurant had been notified of the party. When we arrived to find they only had one waitress? After waiting for almost hour and half, we finally got our order, my wife ordered fish and chips, when she got them their was only 3 pieces of halibut (they said there would be four) no cole slaw. When I paid the bill they charged me for the full price. This was the third time we have attended a meal at the restaurant, the food is usually cold and never has everyone ate at the same time. It was a disappointing experience, I wouldn't recommend to anyone. That was our last time.

Out of four meals ordered only ONE was correct. My friend ordered a club sandwich on rye and got a BLT. My wife and I ordered beef Chimichangas and asked if they came with shredded beef or ground beef and the server said yes they are with shredded beef. Well when we got them they where ground beef. :-( At that time we also noticed that there were beans in the chimichangas and being from Tucson, Arizona where the chimichanga was invented I have never heard of putting beans in them. Not only that but the plate comes with beans and rice. So in other words about 2/3 of the meal was beans (when I say that, I mean that, the chimichangas barely had any beef but ALOT of beans). Being from Arizona and knowing great mexican food there is a big difference from what people call chimichangas here and there and I understand but I asked for anchilada sauce over top (thats how it always comes in Az) and they charged $1.50 per plate and there was barely any on it. Another thing wrong with the chimichangas was there has a little bit of sour cream but no guacamole which it normally would have. The waitress did take it back and get us shredded beef rather than ground beef. I really feel that they fill them with pretty much all beans for cost purposes which is crazy at $14+ a plate. The bathrooms were nasty also. The one order they got right was my sons jalapeño burger. Never going back and dont recommend this place.

I was an unhappy customer. I have not eaten here in over a year. In my opinion things were not up to par. I had an obligatory business lunch here and OMG! The service was on point, the kitchen was immaculate and as for the food goes.....looked great and liked the presentation..not to mention cooked per specs. If you've never eaten here....do. If you haven't eaten here in a while.....maybe you should reconsider. I would personally recommend this place for a get together. As for and my recommendation, and I must admit, they don't come regularly....... Give the Big Lake Diner a shot, you may just be pleasantly surprised. Tell Reuben Shannon sent ya!

I love the new touches that have recently been added like new booths, artwork, pictures, and lighting add a true Alaskan charm! The food is great as always and the prices are very reasonable. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, also a variety of philly subs to choose from.

I judge dinners on their chicken fried steak and hash browns. I order the hash browns well done because I love them crispy so when I get them the way I like, which is not as common as you might think, I feel confident in ordering anything else. All delicious food here.

The food was great, very affordable too. The staff was friendly and very professional. Unfortunately there was a child running around playing, being loud like children do. It wasn't a guest's child though I believe it was a staff member who brought their child into work. Which I don't have an issue with until my meal is interrupted. All in all it was pleasant experience though. ✌
