One of my best friend's favorite places. I called about a gift card for her birthday and was informed the gift card machine was being repaired and they would contact me within a week. A week came and went and I called again. It was still being repaired. Another week later and they said I could come and get the gift card. I got there and waited about 20 minutes to be acknowledged, then about another hour to get the gift card. A couple of times someone checked on me, but no one ever followed up and did anything more than ask if I wanted a menu. They ended up printing me a gift receipt with an expiration date and called that the gift card. I was disappointed, but my friend enjoyed the gift.

I cannot recommend Altura Bistro enough. Such an amazing new restaurant. The prawn bisque was literally the best soup I’ve ever had in my life. The filet mignon with morel butter is easily one of the best steaks in Anchorage right now. They have a great beer and wine menu. The ambiance is modern, clean, and cool. Pop in for dinner and a drink, you won’t be disappointed.

We wanted reviews for restaurants to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. Altura was a restaurant that came up a few times. We could have gone to any well-known restaurant in town, but we decided on Altura. It is a small and intimate room. The bisque was delicious. My wife had the filet and I had the dry-aged steak. Cooked perfectly. Loved the carrots. Great selection of wine. We didn't have dessert, which we regret, but we were so full from the rest of our meal. We'll be back, very soon.

This place is great!!! I love the service and the food!! I went there for the second time last night. It was much more crowded than the first time I went but the service was just as amazing. I had the spicy beef curry. The beef was melt in my mouth tender, the flavors all blended well and it was spicy but not over powering. We also had the calamari appetizer!! Grilled calamari the way they do it is wonderful. It has just the right amount of firmness and isn’t rubber. I could eat an entire dinner of this calamari!!

7 of us dined at Altura on Saturday. Everything was beyond amazing. Everyone at our table talked about the food for days! Appetizer Highlights: the miso brussel sprouts, the crispy cambozola cheese (love that they didn’t offer the Brie that every other restaurant offers), the steamed clams in tomato broth, and the oysters with cucumber caviar! Dinner standouts: the filet with morel butter, the 32 day house dry aged New York, the beef cheek spaghettoni and the scallops with asparagus risotto. The sweet prawn bisque is a must have! We ordered one of each dessert! The rhubarb crisp with sweet corn nougat and bacon was an fun mix of flavors. People at our table fought over the last few bites of the crime brûlée. And the chocolate hazelnut torte paired nicely with the Arrowhead can! We enjoyed the food so much we went back on Sunday night for apps and wine! This has already become one of our favorite Anchorage restaurants!

If there were a sixth star I would definately give it! This is the restaurant I have taken my wife to for every special occasion over the last 18 years. She loves the fact that they have a large gluten-free menu of food that tastes wonderful! I have enjoyed every special I have tried! The Chicken Shawarma is still my all-time favorite along with the tomato-basil blue cheese soup and a fresh hot roll. The owners are a wonderful family and a pure joy to talk with each time. We have watched their children grow up serving customers as if they were friends, which is exactly how we feel each time we come in for a taste bud treat. Sadly as their catering business has done better the restaurant has fewer and fewer hours. But that should tell you a lot about the quality of the food you will be enjoying and remembering for decades to come. You will not be sad when you leave! Your stomach will have enjoyed a wonderful meal and your heart will be glad of the experience! Oh I recommend a reservation as well. You can get in without one but you might have to wait an hour.

A friend took me out to dinner here earlier this week and, even though it was a free meal, I was quite disappointed. The food was moderate (Mousaka: 3/5 stars, Grilled Vegetables: 2/5 stars and overpriced) and the wait staff was legitimately bad. The host was awkward, inexperienced, and wore a heavily wrinkled dress shirt--it looked like he took a nap while fully dressed and rolled out of bed and into work. The busser had a poor sense for when to clear our plates; she tried to take my friend's soup away even though my friend was obviously not finished with it. Shortly afterwards, she did the same with my entree--with about 1/8 left she came over and, without saying anything, reached down to take it away. As it was lifting off the table and headed for the trash I had to ask her to leave it. Hello, you can talk to us! (The "father" and "son" were both very friendly and knowledgable.) The atmosphere was also OK. My impression was that they designed the space and its furnishings a long time ago, but hadn't updated anything in the last decade. Odd lighting, hanging plants, partial dividers, low quality metal chairs with similarly boring upholstery. Kind of like their menu, which was double column Times New Roman. Thus, overall, the combination of the food, service, and atmosphere does not warrant the description of "fine mediterranean and middle eastern cuisine."

The food is exquisite, the presentations are artful and the service is extraordinarily attentive. The flavors within each dish or sharply delineated, honed and focused, but blend exceedingly well into a harmonious presentation on the pallet. The wine list is excellent, But we brought our own wines, which the restaurant welcomes. Nathan Bentley is an undiscovered, humble rockstar chef. Get there now before the world discovers this great place! My wife and I will be going back frequently to “taste through“ the menu! For now we can tell you the shrimp bisque was the best bisque we have ever tasted, the scallops are delectable and the black cod special of the day over black rice risotto was “to die for”. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!!
