Great food and great service

Amy Davis

Fantastic food, ambience, service and dining experience. Highly recommended for a delicious meal out!

Jaclyn Berkley

The food, service and ambience at 229 Parks were all wonderful. I’d say the king crab ravioli was the most memorable dish of the night. Snag a reservation when you can so you don’t miss out on this place!

Look for the Milepost 229 - . Our Nenana River rafting guide recommended 229. As soon as we stepped inside we knew we were in for a treat. No more pizza and fried chicken, not here. The dining room was elegant, warm wood tones and roomy. The bar had fantastic massive wood cutting surrounding the bar. It is a work of art. The large glass windows allowed you view the side yard and hope to see a moose. That night, we observed what were mostly locals coming in for dinner in groups. So nice to walk with and feel welcomed. We were there for 2 dinners and were impressed with the grilled halibut, cream of dill soup, a fresh blue cheese salad, and fresh salmon. We enjoyed the Dill soup, and the halibut TWICE. The fish was sweet, moist and tender. that's all I ask. It was a brilliant dining experience. So glad we could come here for a quiet dinner, instead of the massive crowded noisy dining halls in Denali village. The desserts were great but the home brewed root beer float with their home-made ice cream was the best I had in decades! I should have ordered another one, silly me. I won't make that mistake again. We'll always go back to 229 when in the Alaska Interior. We have to ask Laura for her recipe for the luscious Dill Soup.

My wife and I had one of the finest meals we've ever had at a restaurant. The combination of flavors was exquisite, the presentations were beautiful, and the server was superb. The physical space is beautiful, refreshing, and Alaskan; and it was great to see the work of Alaska artists on display. I recommend 229 Parks highly!

We researched restaurants in Alaska so as not to have to eat in the Princess Lodges every night. So glad we found 229 Parks! What a gem! The food was absolutely spectacular, the best meal of our 12 day vacation hands down. I highly recommend you go here, no matter what the cab ride might cost. Wish I could go back, but it's a long trip from NY!

229 is well deserving of the praise it receives. I was really impressed that this level of dining was available out here! The Halibut is probably the best I've had in the state. My party also had the lamb lollipops and octopus, both of which were cooked to perfection. The addition of fresh garden greens to each dish and the appetizers is commendable. Lastly, prices are very fair and service staff were friendly.

Absolutely loved it! Terrific menu using local foods. Hard to believe such a great place does it so perfect, way out in the middle of nowhere. Meant for the tourists in Denali, too far for locals, but if you can make it there, worth it.

Farhana Bandukwala

Creative dishes made with fresh locally sourced ingredients. We returned multiple times during our trip to find new items on the menu each time. The ambiance is perfect for the area - great food after long hikes in Denali. Dress is really casual and there is a pool table upstairs to play at while you wait for the food.

The food was amazing and the service was great. Everything is fresh and delicious. The restaurant itself is rustic modern and open. Casual attire, like the rest of Alaska. Highly recommended. Reservations are needed.

Jim Syvertsen

Without a doubt, the best restaurant in Alaska! The flavors are always perfectly balanced, no matter what you order.

Daniel Trzesniak

It was unexpected to find such a good restaurant in such a remote location. We didn’t have reservations, and the restaurant was packed, but the friendly staff managed to find 2 seats at the counter (we waited for 20 min), which was actually nice. The dining room is nice and welcoming, nothing fancy. The food is great. Ingredients are very fresh and sourced from local producer (they change their menu on a daily basis). We had the crab crepe and reindeer ragù as mains and they were both delicious (very different from each other). Portions are just the right size. The wine list is simple, but not bad, having something for everyone’s taste. I think this was the nicest dinner we had in Alaska so far.

Stopped by for dinner but couldn't get a seat. Looked like a solid dining experience though, and the ladies at the front were very courteous. Hope to dine here someday, and wish that it had been easier to communicate over the phone (bad signal) or if there was a better way to make a reservation (opentable?).

Jordan Cassel

Probably the best food you'll find for miles. Nice menu of excellently prepared dishes!!

Kilian Ashley

A great place for Alaskan fare, but the portions were a bit too small for the price. This held true for the dessert as well, as I was given 1 spoonful of icecream that apparently counted as a scoop.

Justin Ardini

Incredible meal from start to finish. Lots of unique dishes using local Alaskan ingredients.

Diana Banks

Fabulous dinner and very knowledgeable helpful server. Our group shared 2 appetizers, and 2 bottles of wine. The entrees were seasonal local choices

Wonderful experience, from Nick helping with reservation and corkage rules to Katie’s marvelous service to Laura’s vision. Gem in Denali.

Amazing meal. Six of us dined and enjoyed everything from wines all through to dessert.

Ross Neder

This is kind of a split review. The food was all amazing, local, fresh and prepared perfectly. The service was not nearly as competent. There's not much that can be done about that since it's luck of the draw, maybe somebody else had a good server posted in these reviews and you can ask for that person.

Jake Ransom

Possibly the best food in the interior of AK. Amazing foods, local produce, awesome wine and beer. Rolls to die for.

Had beer, halibut, and a wonderful dessert. The atmosphere was wonderful, maybe a little loud with a big table. Wonderful place that I would recommend to others.

Probably the best restaurant in Alaska, including the somewhat fancy digs in the Anchorage area. I highly value inventiveness, healthy cooking, and use of local foods, so there are my biases made clear.... I've eaten here many times over the years, and last weekend's experience was representative. Uniquely great food, great service, and a fantastically warm and welcome environment. It can be hard to get in sometimes since they get busy and have private events, but it's understandable.

Hands down the best restaurant I tried in Alaska. Everything was perfect. the food, the staff, the setting. Can't miss this if you ever come to Denali.

Sophia Boudinova

One of my favorite places for a more sophisticated meal and wine selection. Great desert selection. Would go back every time I am in the area.

Shawn Armstrong

Every dish I've ever had here has been amazing!

Ryan Welch

Great food in a cozy restaurant. Just be prepared for a long wait. I mean long. We didn't get any of our food for at least 90 minutes.

Carla Garza Beckerley

Great care and fantastic taste combinations!

Theresa Mhanna

Bentleyspop

Really interesting locally sourced menu. Good service. When in Denali this is the place to go when trying to stay away from the tourist-centric restaurants.

Sarah Johanson

Amazing and unique culinary experience! Worth the drive and the $$.

Vicki Miller

Remarkable food. Great service. Go there. You’ll be glad you did.

David Stieber

Good food but was better a few years ago. Service is very slow. They served a Caesar salad with wilted lettuce that wasn't romaine. Their desserts are good but not great. Atmosphere is very pleasant and staff are caring. A good choice if you are in Denali but not worth a trip from Fairbanks or elsewhere.

This is a hidden gem and well-worth the drive. It is just south of Denali National Park and provides a wonderful dining experience. A refreshing change to other options available in the area. Food was great - had blue cheese pasta, steak baguette, spring rolls (a little spicy), king salmon and clam appetizer and a mint rhubarb lemonade (amazing). Total was $103 - so not cheap, but comparable to other Denali area restaurants and much higher quality. They advertise that they use local sources/ Alaska grown wherever possible. Dining room was clean and inviting, big windows on 3 sides provide nice views. They had very impressive desert options but unfortunately we were stuffed from the entrees so we didn't order any. Kid-friendly. The hours are limited so it is not always convenient for travelers passing through - call ahead for hours and availability.

Janet James

This is a MUST EAT! Yeah, we had no reservations and had to get on a list for seating at the bar, but well worth it. The food was awesome and the staff matched. DON'T leave Denali without a stop here.

The masa soup, caesar salad, and lamb were the bomb. The draft ipa and coffee porter were also very good. High quality food that was very reasonably priced (~20 / entree, 6 for pint of beer). The freshly cooked bread was also very good. I highly recommend this place.

Laura of 229 Parks was our caterer for a TV crew that came to town. I can't say enough good things about her, and her food. She accommodated a large variety of dietary restrictions, and last minute changes. She was incredibly nice, and the food was healthy and absolutely delicious!

Christine Mitchell

Outstanding - Creative and locally sourced food. Long menu of options. Great service and rustic atmosphere. Can't fault this place. Shocked to find such a great restaurant in such a remote location.

Excellent food! You will need reservation. I wanted to try some delicious drink... I was pleasantly shocked when I tasted their sangria. Best sangria ever! Why would Sangria be great in Alaska :P

Katherine du Plessis

They said they were completely booked, we stopped by to see how jumping the place was, it was virtually empty. We said we could eat in a half an hour before their major reservations came in, and they turned us away. Guess I will never have the chance to write a good review...
