Half hr was great yesterday. I sat at the bar in Downtown Mobile Alabama and this young man named Bernard was so nice and kept checking on me like every 8 minutes. This was a great birthday weekend starter. Thanks Wintzell's from now I'm eating at the bar this was the first of many visits for me.

Came in with the family and dogs this afternoon and had EXCELLENT service. Wish I remembered our server's name because she a great example for others to follow. The food may sound secondary, but it was quite exceptional. Enjoyed a few dozen oysters and couple pounds of shrimp. Would definitely stop by again next time I'm in town.

Love eating here. The service is always top notch and the food is amazing! Tonight I am having the fried green tomatoes, a bowl of gumbo, and the oven grilled platter with fried okra and collard greens. Can't go wrong with any of these!Back in Mobile again for another round. Could not decide on the type of oysters I wanted so I had the sampler and was not disappointed. My server, Heather, was outstanding and really added to my dining experience. Highly recommend requesting to be seated in her section. 5/5/19: First day back in Mobile after a long spell away. Of course my first stop after checking in is Wintzell's. The raw oysters, gumbo, and fried green tomatoes never disappoint. Finished with bread pudding. I asked for a la mode and was presented with the option of having it "loaded". This was amazing!!! Their famous bread pudding with candied pecans, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, and vanilla ice cream. Soooo decadent, and oh so good. I will be back again, at least once more, before I leave next weekend

Those raw oysters are so delicious! I'm from AZ and the oysters there are more pricey, but here it is a few dollars cheaper. I also tried their gumbo and had to get two cups because it was so good. Not too spicy and it was a hearty meal. Glad I got to try out wintzell's.

The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because the place is a little dated and Warren and the seating is compact. Other than that we had a great experience food was delicious and service was awesome. We had oysters Monterey, a fried oyster po boy with french fries, gumbo and bisque and Blue Moon beer. The crab bisque was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for good tasting food and fast friendly service. There is a full bar and also and Oyster Bar. Check out the photos!

Wintzell's on Dauphin Street is amazing. It has a very unique, local, comfortable atmosphere inside. The raw oysters are delicious, but you can get oysters so many ways you'll want to try the sampler. The crawfish sauce is a nice topping for fried green tomatoes. You also can't wrong with either the Cream of Crab soup or the Jerk Chicken Chili. Your only problem will be deciding what to have! If you want a real taste of Mobile, stop here.

Ecletic, full of interesting history, and our our oyster shucker was friendly but the bar was pretty messy and obviously had been leaned on for many years. The oyster juices kept dripping into my lap. We also had to share one roll of paper towels with the rest of the customers sitting at the bar.

In town for a wedding and this was my 1st spot. Love the West Indies salad and baked oysters! Perfect lunch and always enjoy reading the sayings on the walls. Fun place with great food. Fresh oysters and great food. We enjoyed the oysters, crab cakes, and key lime pie. Ate here our first night in town and returned two nights later we enjoyed it so much

Seafood seemed fresh and plump but i chose badly in eating fried platter, breading was thin but for some reason gave you a heavy feeling of "greasy" spoon food. Just don't do the fried if you really have a craving for seafood. My hubby said cheese grits had sat out too long and were a bit bland. No wow moments. Baked potato had a good amount of condiments. Atmosphere was pleasant and service was ok.

Wintzell’s is a staple of downtown Mobile, AL. You must stop in here for their oysters. Try to get here for the happy hour oyster special. We are from New York and have traveled quite extensively and these oysters are top notch!! Their friendly service was also a highlight. Our waiter Dante was pleasant and provided us with everything we needed. We’ll definitely return and recommend this to close friends and family.

I have been going here for years and have never been disappointed in the quality or taste in any of the dishes. The shrimp gumbo, jerk chicken gumbo, seafood platters and oysters on the half shell are the most delicious and the freshest you will ever taste!

I was very dissatisfied with the restaurant. The place was dirty, the menus were sticky and the bathrooms were gross. I can only imagine what the back of the house looked like. I really had higher expectations of seafood in the South. The price was too high for the quality of the food. They need to clean and regroup!

A group of us went for lunch while in Mobile for business. It is the first time I have been to this place. Others in my group said that it was a must for them. The best thing about the experience was our waitress. She was everything you wanted in a server. Very knowledgeable on the food and drink. She was able to make suggestions without hesitation. She was able to describe the dishes for us. She was fast and very friendly. She was very attentive. The food was great. There very no complaint at the table and there were a lot of sampling of each others dishes. The price was fair and the food was plenty. Definitely would recommend this place and I will definitely be back.

Great value for food! The happy hour oysters are a great value; we got a dozen for $8. The kids meals are also a decent size! We enjoyed it immensely, and feel like we got to experience an authentic Mobile restaurant.

I have been only one time in Mobile Alabama, actually for a weekend only. But I have been to Wintzell's Oyster House twice. First to a dinner with friends, where we all have been very impressed with the the choices we had made. I came back for lunch alone the other day and again had the bacon wrapped scallops - Yum-Yum! I certainly will come back whenever I am close.

My experience started off very poorly. I went into the men’s room and it was filthy. The bathroom appears not to have been updated or cleaned since the restaurant opened. My wife and I ordered our meal and they brought out our tea first. The tea was nothing but water. After two rounds of trying to get this right we both ordered Diet Coke’s. The oysters on the half shell were we expected very good. My lump crab cake was slightly undercooked, but ok. I ordered the fish and shrimp the shrimp was excellent, however, the fish was undercooked but OK. I also ordered onion rings which came out cold but were OK and my french fries came on at the end of the meal and were well under cooked. My wife’s meal of oysters and shrimp was good. Unique dining experience lots of fun sayings on the wall, but I probably will not return. Anyone who runs a restaurant should know the bathroom tells a story and your story was not a good one today.

Fried oysters and other famous staples at Wintzell's were fantastic, but I suggest avoiding anything outside of seafood. Wait on a busy weekend can be long, but the staff is very attentive and the atmosphere is nice. Highly recommend for someone traveling through Mobile wanting genuine Gulf seafood.

Stopped by on a day trip to take my kids to the exploratorium. Amazing oyster sampler plate. Plus I added another dozen raw because they were half off at only $8. I will be back next time I'm in mobile. My girl got the red fish and loved it.

I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp platter. The catfish with some of the best catfish I've had in a long time. I have had better shrimp, as the breading was falling off of it. The flavor was good though! The hushpuppies were good and the fries were good too. Their slaw was good but had a lot of watery dressing in it. I'd go back for sure! My waitress did a great job, and was checking on all her tables often.

80-year-old Wintzell’s is a Mobile landmark where we enjoyed a good meal. My daughter and I both ordered the Redfish Bienville which was good but a touch overcooked, dry. The salad that came before the dinner however was the showstopper being flavorful and delicious. Pair it all with a cold draft beer and it rounded out to a good dinner experience.

I went with the Mobile Kennel Club Group after the dog show Friday night. From the waiter clear through dessert everything was fantastic!!! Their Balsamic vinaigrette salad dressing was nicely balanced unlike many places where I find it to be overpowering. I had the cream crab soup and everyone in the group that ordered it raved about the fabulous flavor.

This was the Wintzell's on Dauphin in Mobile. We waited more than 90 minutes to get food that only tasted reasonably good. The service was the pits. The atmosphere is one I don't want to experience again. The manager on duty the evening of Wednesday, March 13, 2019 was the worst. When we inquired about the serious delay in service, he asked, "What do you want me to do?" Wow!

Everything was very good and the service was quick and friendly. My friend ordered the fish tacos and said they were a bit on the spicy side but she still enjoyed them.... Just a warning for anyone that can't handle spice. Her husband ordered the seafood Alfredo and enjoyed it very much. My husband ordered a bowl of gumbo which he said was tasty and I ordered the crab bisque. It was all good. However, I was a bit surprised at the very small portion of soup in the bowl size. It was maybe 1/2" deep... MAYBE. I would hate to see how much is in the cup size. My husband and I had a late lunch that day so we were not starving which is why we only ordered a bowl of soup each. We were still hungry after eating and got to hunt down some dessert. I guess we won after all.

Great spot! Me as well as my fellow Motorcycle Club enjoyed it our whole weekend there. We'll definitely back hopefully we can give advance notice so wait times won't be as long. Customer service was very good as well considering how packed it was. Located in walking distance from the 3 hotels we occupied. Eat, drink and get a little exercise after. No excuse for anyone to be in or on a vehicle.

Good selection of different seafood dishes. My husband had the traditional southern catfish dinner. Now I will say the catfish was cooked to perfection, however the sides such as the cheese grits were just ok. I had a low country boil that was truly lacking in flavor. I also thought it to be a little over priced for the portion size as well. I have had much better and much more for lower in price. Overall, not too bad...has a fun atmosphere!

The oyster platter was amazing. Let's you try a few various different kinds of oysters from the Rockefeller to ones covered in cheddar, bacon, and jalapenos. They have a good beer selection too. Overall a great place to go eat and hang out.

The front of the house was excellent. In fact, our waiter was very apologetic that our food took almost an hour to get out of the kitchen. The restaurant was not busy, so why it took so long for our food to come out was most confusing. The shrimp was over cooked and the gumbo was barely warm. We had two small children with our party, so it was that much more inconvenient to wait. Wait staff was excellent. Food was marginal. Time for food to come out of kitchen was not acceptable at all. Here’s a teaching moment for management...it was Friday August 16 between the hours of 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm. Look at your kitchen schedule to see who was on duty and talk with your kitchen staff because there is a lot of room for improvement.

I have always loved this place. I haven't been here in Mobile in over seven years and I recently returned on a trip stopping through here and my folks brought me here because they know I love seafood and I have to say it was delicious. There was even a mix up with two of our party members and the manager himself came by, I think his name was Dave, and he was very respectful and cleared it up for us. The staff was very accommodating and very friendly and the food was delicious. I highly recommend this place if you are ever downtown in Mobile and you are looking for a good bite to eat with a great atmosphere.

Some of the best seafood around. I don't live in Mobile but I make it about once a year and make it a point to hit Wintzell's every time. I'm not an oyster person but I can attest to their fish and shrimp which is very good. I love the breading they use for their fried items and the whitefish they use is just mouthwatering. I usually forget how good it is with so long in between visits but it never disappoints. And make a note to get at least a cup of the gumbo. The best seafood gumbo I've ever had. If you love seafood, make sure to hit the original Wintzell's in downtown Mobile. You'll be sorry you hadn't been there before.

I've never been a big fan of oysters. Never. My first trip to Wintzell's I got the Low Country Boil and man was it delish!!! Second trip, same thing. Third trip, I tried the chargrilled oysters and my mind was blown away!!! I couldn't believe what I had been missing out on this whole time!!! Ever since then, I've ordered them every time. The last two trips I ordered the fried oyster dinner and oh my stars, they are gloriously delicious!!! I've only had oysters one other time, and that was in Louisiana three years ago, but I can say without a doubt, the greatest place in the world to get oysters is Wintzell's!!! I don't think I could go anywhere else. It's about an eight hour drive for me to get there but I wouldn't have a problem making a trip there just for a plate of their chargrilled and or fried oysters!!! I can't wait to go again!!!

Historic original location downtown with quotes, sayings and joke statements covering every inch of all walls, offers the most delicious, mouth-watering baked oysters above any other restaurant anywhere! The catfish has amazing flavor and everything is incredibly fresh. The waitstaff are friendly, local and accommodating, making sure each patron is happy with their selections. The atmosphere is casual and fun. The seafood soup is creamy and filled with fresh seafood. The sweet tea us true to really sweet southern Alabama flair so I like mine half cut with unsweetened tea which makes it just right. Make sure to save room for the bread pudding which is absolutely delicious and totally addictive. My boyfriend doesn't even like bread pudding but once he tried a bite of it, I had to fight to eat any more! LOL. Wintzell's is our all time favorite place for oysters and bread pudding!

If you want good quality seafood at a reasonable prices, this is the wrong place to come. Save your mo eat and don't waste your time. I grew up in Mobile and used to eat at Wintzells when Oliver Wintzell ran the restaurant. They always had fresh well prepared seafood at reasonable prices. This place is a joke now living off its name. The big bowl of gumbo I ordered had no seafood in it and was below average at best. The shrimp salad my wife ordered had tiny bay shrimp. We paid $85.00 for our meal and were sorely disappointed; we don’t live in Mobile now, but we will never go back to Wintzells when traveling. This place is now a tourist trap with substandard food and sky high prices and living off its name from many years ago.

I really enjoyed myself, the atmosphere was wonderful. I've eaten at the other two restaurants in the Mobile area and they just don't compare. I LOVE the happy hour 7 days a week. The charbroil oysters are the best in the area always even to the other locations.

Wintzells has always been one of my favorite seafood restaurants in Mobile. All of the food is amazing and reasonably priced. The special is typically a nice surprise like snow crab or other seasonal specialties. The only real downside is the parking but that is to be expected for the location. Great place and a must visit for everyone travelling to Mobile.

My wife and I came in for dinner here in Mobile, AL before we left for an anniversary cruise. We were seated with Ashlyn. Ashlyn is a tremendous representative for your establishment. She made us feel very welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was great, but what brought us back was Ashlyn. We asked to be seated in her section and she immediately recognized us and asked how are cruise was! Do not lose this girl! She's the best! We will be back, 100% due to her!
