Breakfast was the great. Our choices were Diner special and Blueberry french toast. Yum.. Always great food anytime of day. Go hungary you won't be disappointed.

The food is good, but the service is lacking. You better ask for everything you want when your food is brought out, because they won't be back to check on you. When they finally brought the check, and I offered this feedback, I got the excuse that they were short staffed. The entire island is short staffed. Not an excuse for what would have been a 5 second check in. Also, be mindful of what you order if you want to get your money's worth. My 3 tiny pancakes and 4 tiny strips of bacon cost as much as my husband's country fried steak with eggs, toast, and home fries.

Been eating there since they opened. I think the staff has turned over. They used to be awesome. I took my daughter there last week and they never assigned us a server and I had to get up and to looking for one after about 25 minutes. Food was still ok though. I called 5 minutes ago with an order for pickup to take to the brewery across the street and the lady who answered the phone questioned me if I really wanted them, or the "gulf shores diner", and I had to convince her that I knew what restaurant I was calling, and was then rude to me when I asked her to repeat herself because their line was crackly and there was way too much background noise. I told her to cancel the order and that I would just call tacky jacks across the street. Never had a problem with them.

This place is a true find. Forget the tourist places and go here to have quality food. Do not confuse it with the other diner at hwy 59 and Beach Blvd. This restaurant is well known with the locals and is very reasonable. It may not have the ambiance of the other eateries but if you want good homemade breakfast , lunch, soups, or dinner you will not be disappointed. Oh, and the Reuben is delicious. Nothing is overpriced. Bon Appetit!

Food is great as usual but the wait staff is less than desirable. Sit in the dining area if you desire good service the bar staff is rude and insufficient and never wrong. I’ve never had a sever/bartender who will argue with a patron. The guy who worked tonight should be fired for his argumental behavior. I’m a sever and I’ve never been treated or treated someone the way I was treated in this establishment. If ya get a good sever you’ll never regret eating here. The food is awesome

Terrible! Ask for medium egg and it was well done and no yolk to dip in. Toast wasn't buttered. And the potatoes weren't very fresh! The bacon was to crisp and tasted burnt. My friend ordered pancakes and they were cold. The waitstaff we're more interested in the people behind us. Won't ever go back!

Easily the worst place I have eaten in Gulf Shores. The waiter appeared intoxicated, their televisions were not working, and they got my order wrong. A self-respecting resto would just close, but not these guys! Edit 1: Apparently the owner actually responded below if only to prove my point. Most managers say they'll do better or thank you for an honest opinion, but not this one: he is intent to continue the tradition of bad food and even worse service. The owner admitted that he did not pursue "that higher learning," which I assure you, was obvious when I walked in. I actually eat at quite a few places like Waffle House and Cracker Barrel, and they score fairly well for me. I suggest that customers take their business to those establishments instead: they appear like fine dining when compared to this "Diner." I couldn't finish 60% of the food because of the taste, but felt it was too expensive to throw out. I will put it out for the raccoons tonight, and if it's still there in the morning, we can consider that the final word.

Had to wait to be seated.....ignored by staff. Fries are horrible, food wasn't hot and we watched four more groups being ignored and having to wait to be seated. Even a guy who appeared to be management seemed to be oblivious. We're locals and we won't be back

OK, so it's been a month since I ate here and I'm still telling my friends about it! I hankered for shrimp and grits so did the usual Google search on Gulf Shores dining. The best I've ever had -- Charleston restaurants could take some lessons -- with the flavor of smoked Gouda still tantalizing my memory. Informal setting, matchless service, kitchen that loves what it's creating for the table. Definitely on my go-to dining list!

You have an excellent reputation, but did not score well today. Friday is supposed to be Fried Grouper, as advertised even in the Mullet Wrapper. Today, the substitute was Swaii, a cheap white fish, no match for Grouper. Perhaps you can get away with that when serving the Snowbirds. but not so for those of us who live here. Please serve what you advertise...

Nice little hidden gem! Older coastal type feel, but great food, no wait when we went, and a great staff. Have 4 kids - all pretty picky and can never agree on same place to go, but The Diner has WIDE variety of items on menu so everyone can find something they like, and every one of them cleaned their plate (very rare). They nailed it! Especially the Black & Blue burger

I have eaten here before. The food is good (love the Reuben) and the service is nice. However my comment today has nothing to do with either. About a month ago, one of the tires blew out on my van directly across the street from The Diner. I was os touched that the chef came out to check on me and my family and to offer assistance, not once but twice. That kind of human behavior is worthy of comment. I am still touched and thankful.

Had breakfast. My husband had the blue plate for $5.50. VERY reasonable and good!. I had a small bowl of fruit and 2 scrambled eggs. Cost $6.00. The fruit was $2.75 and she charged me $3.25 for 2 scrambled eggs. A little high.

We came in with our family of 11 for lunch on our fall break. We chose it based off the prices and thought that we were taking a chance for quality. BOY WERE WE SURPRISED! Usually you get what you pay for, but in this area, it is a steal! The food was DELICIOUS! The service was EXCELLENT! The restaurant was very clean and a fun family environment! We will be back and will be recommending it to anyone we know that is headed this way!

Pleasantly delighted. First time here, came for Sunday brunch. Both got Eggs Benedict, very good without my having to tell them to be sure the English Muffin is toasted, egg whites cooked with running yolk. Came great, but no potatoes? Unusual. Did come with asparagus (perfect) and fruit that was delicious-in January! Waiter a bit abrupt but took care of things. We will be back!

Great place to eat when. Came down here for spring break and the place wasn't crowded. Simple and rustic atmosphere but with a down home and comfortable feel. The food was exceptional. Kids order pancakes and all had big smiles and full bellies. Service was very friendly and efficient. The eggs were perfectly cooked and came out with a perfect temperature. Bacon was crisp, hot and flavorful. The grits with my shrimp and grits were so creamy and buttery and the shrimp was cooked right. The shrimp and crab omelette was the best I ever had with the crab meat being flaky and sweet which is not easy to accomplish when cooked in an omelet but the chef did it masterfully. When your in the Gulf Shores look for the Diner, not to be confused with airliner diner.

Very good experience. Very friendly server. All four of our meals were delicious. Two starter dinner salads were ok, the blue cheese dressing was rich and flavorful. Two had fried fish platter. Fish was cooked to perfection with cornmeal batter. Not greasy. Fries were double fried and crunchy good. Collard greens cooked just right and good seasoning. My granddaughter are get while 1/2 lb hamburger and all her fries. My son had Ashle's Chicken and he said it was a 10 it off 10. Also said Gouda Grits were fantastic.

Came here on one of our final nights vacationing in Gulf Shores. Very relaxed atmosphere. Staff are very pleasant & so helpful. Waitress we had was amazing. Had multiple tables with large parties, yet never fell behind or missed a beat. Great food selection from southern fried to fresh seafood. Taste was amazing all the way around the table. Overall a very nice experience, definitely recommend & plan to return.

This place is your typical "hole in the wall" (I think they even say it in their menu) and you probably wouldn't stop here, but it is well worth a visit! The food is extraordinary! Homemade items across the menu! It features traditional diner food...but it is much better than any typical diner food! Fresh ingredients and great taste to everything! Kid's menu is typical, but large portions and real food made for happy kids. Check this place out!

The food was delicious - their Sunday brunch is only served from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Their specials on Sunday almost always include one omlet and today's was a crab meat and shrimp, served with fried potatoes and was very good!

If you are ever in the area, we ALL loved the food and service and the owner/chef was wonderful both nights making us feel so welcome!!! Also heard he feeds the local firefighters and public service folks, God bless this man and his business!! On a scale on 1 to 10 this is a 12 for sure!!

First of all we loved the sign at the entrance! We are from Missouri. (South of STL area) We have been in the area for about 8 days , leaving tomorrow. This was the first time we went somewhere that I've been 100% satisfied with my meal. This is the first place we went that wasn't wall to wall seafood. It was so nice to have home style food. I had a hard time making a choice because I wanted several things. I chose the open faced beef with green beans. The green beans were amazing , it was all amazing. My son said the cheeseburger was amazing. My husband got a Gyro... whatever that is...idk I didn't even ask him what he thought because...who orders a gyro. Hahaha. We ended our meal with strawberry bread pudding. It was huge. And also amazing. Sorry for the excessive use of the word "amazing" . Five stars. Already recommended to the family back home. (They frequent the gulf shores area too)

Great little diner. No wait. Jennifer was friendly and spoke highly of all the food she suggested. I had fish and fries. Although the fish was fried it was not greasy at all. My husband had chicken alfredo. He could only eat about half and took the rest home. He said it was very good, just a large portion. We had to save room for dessert which we havent had yet but I'm sure they won't disappoint. Lots of variety.. give it a try, glad we did and we will definitely be back.

Both my husband and I were wanting a good hamburger in the Gulf Shores area, while we were vacationing there. We checked Google, and this restaurant came up. Hamburgers were great! Cooked perfectly per our requests. The onion rings are awesome. Sweet tea was Sweet! The waitress was very good, which is rare these days. Good experience, we'll be back and highly recommend.

I've been here a couple of times with family. The double layered burger they have is awesome. It's 8" tall and packed with flavor. This place is often missed when driving by as it's not on the beaten path but it's a well kept secret to alot of folks. It can get crowded at certain times but the wait is usually non existent as they have lots of seating. Check them out, you won't be disappointed.

7pmon a Saturday is the busiest time I’ve ever been in the diner! No one answered when I called for 30 min to place a to go order, so I’m here now and the bartender is awesome taking my order under some extreme stress that he just can’t hide. I know my food will be worth it but wish tonight’s dinner could have been easier and not as time consuming. Just the answering of the phone would help on busy nights get a extra employee just to do things like that.

There's a very good reason The Diner is in the top few restaurants in Gulf Shores, AL...it's awesome! We went there for lunch and from the outside I thought there must be some mistake and we had come to the wrong place, but once seated and eating, I knew it was definitely the right place. I had the hamburger steak dinner, which was the best I've tasted in a restaurant. I also had green beens, and they were delicious. My wife had the open face roast beef entree which was equally as good. If you're looking for fancy, don't bother going, because this is a very old building and though it's not, it gives the appearance of being dirty...it's just old. The booth in which we sat was actually not all that comfortable, but I will happily go back and sit in that same booth just to have their great food! Highly recommended.

I had an older German waiter, and he was...eh. All I ask of waitstaff is that they bring me the food and refill my drink when I set the glass to the side. I'm putting the thing on the side closest to you, so you can see it and fill it. How hard is that? I'm not asking for non-menu items. I'm not asking you to sing and dance. Just refill my darn drink. The food was alright. The tea was okay, but a little light for me. Didn't matter because I was dying of thirst.

Great service and very good food! I had the shrimp and grits, and hubby had open faced beef sandwich. I had some turnip greens, too, excellent flavor. The shrimp were big and cooked perfectly. Our wait staff was outstanding, and so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the blurbs on the menu about the location and the owners - they also serve a full breakfast, so we will definitely be back!

I vacationed in Gulf Shores for about 5 days, and out of those 5 days we ate here twice! That's how good it was. The food was delicious and with a good portion size. Prices were very good, not expensive. Service was also good. It can get really busy and the second time we had a little bit of a wait, but definitely worth the stop!!

Don't let the outside fool you. It looks like a run down dive, but the food is really good! We had burgers and fries, and they were fantastic! Especially the fries! My wife had the beans and ham soup and was a little disappointed. The waiter was very nice and helpful. Overall, a pleasant experience.

So good! After having the Reuben, it's difficult to order anything else. Fortunately my wife doesn't have that problem. She had the Steak and Shrimp Bowl and it was so embarrassing to have to tell her three times to quit lick ng the plate...so I guess it was good even though she wouldn't share. The Strawberry Bread Pudding will blow your mind, but eat it there while it's still warm. Even if you're too full for dessert, you won't regret it.

My family and I vacationed in Gulf Shores and this diner was BY FAR the best place we found. It is reasonably priced and the food was perfection. I am from Tennessee and we do not usually have a lot of places that serve rubens besides Arby’s... but the ones from here were absolutely off the charts! The fried green tomatoes were also amazing too. It was a good atmosphere and the staff was so friendly and consistent.

The crab and shrimp omelet is probably the best I've ever had. The restaurant was particularly slow this morning when we went but the wait staff was very friendly and we were served quite promptly. I will definitely be going back next time I'm at the beach. The food was delicious and their prices are very reasonable. We ate at tourist traps when we first got here going to a popular hole in the wall seafood place so we've been searching for decent eats since we've been here. The diner definitely delivered and I would recommend it to anybody I know.

One of the worst...the service was so bad. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Then another 10 to get drinks. Then another 10 to have someone take our order. We ordered 2 soups, the waiter forgot them. The food finally came and it was so average...and salty. We had a cheddar burger...meh. We also had 2 fried shrimp platters. The waiter forgot the sides. There was 7 shrimp on one and 9 on the other platter. Total joke of a restaurant, how does it stay on business? We never were offered to have our drinks refilled. It easily took another 10 minutes to have the check delivered after I asked for it....and the waiter charged us for the soups he never brought us!!! Just avoid this dive, save yourself aggravation, and don't waste your money.

One of my family's favorite local restaurants to eat. We love the service and the food. Truly the best Reuben sandwich and chicken salad sandwiches on the island! And their burgers and onion rings are also delicious!

They lost 3 stars, because the servers bussed the dirty dishes from the tables. And a cook was in his work clothes drinking and trying to pick up a woman at the bar. Very unprofessional....Servers clearing dirty dishes from tables, is not healthy nor is it sanitary. We ordered burgers for 10 bucks with awesome onion rings, and shared key lime pie for dessert. The food was good and the portions were big and the price was right. When you hire back waiters/bus people, so that your servers dont serve our meals with dirty hands... I'll give you the 3 stars. Also, dont allow the staff, to drink at the bar, in their work clothes...it reflects poorly on the management. I've been in the F and B industry, for 35 years, so I know. Visited on 1-10-18 at 5:30pm

Took a second to get seated, but good and quick service. The burgers are delicious; I love the buns! The pasta was good, but it came a little cold. Overall a good experience, a good spot and the decor is nice too. Would recommend!

Food was really, really good. Atmosphere was off putting, though; there was no music playing, and it was so hot in the restaurant that we were sweating near the end of our visit. Service also a bit slow. Our waiter was prompt, but it took a little while to be seated in a restaurant full of empty tables. You truly are just paying for the food here - no atmosphere to speak of.

The staff was very helpful with our son's allergies. The food was delicious and everyone was friendly. They have a great dessert called debs coconut cake. It is yummy! The burger I had was huge!
