#1 bbq restaurant in Birmingham and the Avondale location is by far the best. I will only get bbq from saws Avondale location from now on since it has ruined all other bbq for me now. If you haven't been, you need to go immediately. But be aware that you may be addicted by the time you leave. I live in vestavia so it's kind of a drive (10 to 15 min), but it's well worth it. Saws and tazikis are really the only places I don't get sick of eating that aren't like nice sit-down restaurants. I have even had it as lunch for the entire office, but I can't remember if they offer catering or if I just made a big to-go order. Nevertheless, it's a good idea to do for a larger group of people

Such a great atmosphere out on the patio, which is also pup friendly. The server we had was extremely kind as soon as we sat down she brought out my Boxer a bowl of ice water. Now the food was fantastic, I had the pork n greens and some wings. Highly recommend both of these options. If I am passing through again I will definitely be making another trip to SAW's!

The pork and greens is awesome! If you want a taste of The South then you've got to try it. Pork on top of collards, on top of grits. Topped with fried onions. The atmosphere is relaxed and the place can get crowded during peak hours but the wait is worth it.

I was blown away. I am usually not a fan of BBQ restaurants but really enjoyed Saw's. Came here for lunch with some co-workers. The wings with the white BBQ sauce was fantastic. Also got a pulled pork sandwich that was great.

Didn't like that before we could be seated, we had to wait for another table get their drinks. Wasn't impressed with the food. And what I really wanted was a chili baked potato, and was told they were out of potatoes. A big portion of the menu is potatoes, if you aren't going to have potatoes then you don't need your menu have a big portion of potatoes. I then ordered a Carolina dog(hot dog) which was with chili, mustard, and slaw. I asked for it without the slaw and when I received it it had slaw on it. Sent it back. When I got it back, the hot dog bun was wide open and bun was soggy, just looked like it was just slapped on the bun. Then when we were ready to go, it took the waitress at least 30 min to bring our to go drinks, a to go box, and the bill.

Meh, it was okay. It certainly didn't live up to the hype. I had the pork with greens and grits. I'd been looking forward to this particular dish for quite some time. We went after lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't very busy, but there was a lot of staff there just standing around. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

We were heading to Atlanta and were hungry before we got on the road. We called Saws & ordered BQ chicken to go. One on a bun & the other without a bun. Also ordered a side of greens. They give you plenty of chicken & it is delicious! The pickup at Saws was fast & easy. I recently attended a Garden Club meeting were the hostesses served this chicken with Saws delicious white sauce. The greens were tasty.

There are three things to know about this place, in order of my frustration. Number one, seriously try this, when you attempt to call in an order they never pick up the phone. You have show up in person to place your order and... wait... and wait... and wait. Number two, parking is extremely difficult. Number three, they are simply overpriced. Compare them to anyone else on quality versus price on a pound of chopped pork, and it’s simply not worth the hassle.

Smoked wings were great. Ordered carry out but atmosphere inside seemed pretty cool. Manager was extremely nice. Bartender took my order and was very knowledgeable about the menu. Ordered almost $300 for a company lunch and some orders were very particular. We received everything we asked for. Everyone at the lunch loved the food and we will definitely be back.

At first I was disappointed because their menu was different from typical BBQ joints. They don’t have brisket and ribs, and instead of plates with sides, sides are sold separately. The wings, fried tomatoes, burger and sweet potato fries were delicious, though. You will have a tasty meal here if you’re not expecting the usual variety.

Now changed. A very unfriendly head bartender, takeout order guy seemed bothered to have to take the order. They don't care for your business unless you're young -- & want beer. A friendlier, very young bartender told us -- a party in their 60s & 90s -- that they hadn't answered our multiple calls to place a takeout order because "maybe we didn't hear the phone -- and we're told not to answer it when we're busy. Best to just come in & have a beer while you wait!" Sure. Colorful beer crowd. Looked like a Duck Dynasty/ lumberjack hollow family reunuion on a Saturday afternoon in Mountain Brook. Except louder & darker.

Visiting from out of town and had lunch here with a couple local friends. The Juke Joint did not let me down. Had the smoked wings which were perfectly crunchy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside with the just the right amount of sauce. Speaking of sauce: the white sauce is to die for. Unfortunately, didn't get any apps and we were too full for dessert, but the next time I come through Birmingham I will definitely stop!

Food: Amazing flavors and definitely southern food. I had the Fried green tomatoes, smoked sausage with broccoli and turnip greens, and banana pudding. The smoked sausage didn't have as much flavor and needed to be smoked longer. The greens were amazing as well as the banana pudding. Service: very attentive and helpful staff. Definitely recommend going here. Very pleasant and it has a good bar area as well.

This place use to be good. It was just awful. As soon as we walked in the hostess was making excuses about the shift change. The pork and grits plate I usually order significantly shrunk in size and flavor. My wifes chicken sandwich was full of chicken fat and her sweet potato fries had a hair in it. We seemed to be rushed out of there, because apparently a shift change was about to happen and as our waitress said, " I have other things to do." As a customer it is not my business or problem about an upcoming shift change. All businesses have shift changes and you work as you always do. Will definitely not be going back. Birmingham has many great food options, so customer service and good food quality should be a top priority.

SAW's benefits from the hype train and younger social media engaged patrons. There are BBQ stands in trailers all over the state that put out more honest 'cue with years of love and a smoke technique done right. Birmingham has good BBQ that can stand up to other regional styles, but a cookie cutter product designed for mass appeal doesn't help the city's credibility. Twenty years ago, Dreamland would be dry ice packed and shipped for weddings and board meetings all over the US because it was well known. SAW's is successfully carrying that mantle for the present day, by people who are savvy enough to recognize that's not something to be proud of.

This is one of those places you go out of your way to eat at. It’s where I take people to eat the first time they come to Birmingham. The wings and the sweet tea chicken sandwich are the absolute best things there. The pork and greens is also a solid pick. When okra is on the menu it’s always a favorite of the table, but it’s whole okra not cut up. The atmosphere is real laid back and the patio is a great on a clear day.

Wings are smoked, tender, and delicious. Some of the best in town and served with white sauce drizzled over the top. Pictured with onion rings which are very thin and delicious. The sweet tea fried chicken sandwich competes with Chick Fil A. You can’t go wrong. If the fried okra is on the menu, it’s a must for an appetizer!! The best thing on the menu hands down is the chicken and greens. You have to try at least once. A layered mountain of grits, greens, chicken, red sauce (suggest subbing for white), and topped with a pile of onion rings. Saw’s has a fun atmosphere and stays packed from Thursday to Sunday.

Went to dinner on a Saturday evening. My first impression was that it must be good because the parking lot was packed and there were a lot of people. We had about a 45 minute wait, but it was worth it. The atmosphere is simple but not unpleasant. Very busy and a little loud. The waitress was pleasant and made sure we were taken care of refilling drinks and checking on us often. The food was excellent southern fare. Great BBQ and sauce. Nice sized portions at a decent price. No complaints. We will be back!

The wings at Saws Juke joint are NEXT LEVEL good. These wings are so good that you need to go out of your way to eat these. The sweet potato fries also have amazing flavor, and are the perfect texture. Parking at this location can be quite tricky, so if you’re going for lunch, try and get there before 11:30 or 11:45. Service is hit or miss. There is one waitress there who is next level bad. Any time I am seated in her section, I know I’m going to be in for the long haul.

Very good pulled pork. Their white sauce was delicious. Don't miss out on the fried green beans. They are one of the highlights of the menu. Very savory greens, always a important sign of a good bbq place. For deserts we tried the bread pudding and their banana pudding. Both were excellent. Saw's (all locations) is at the top of the BBQ world. Anything involving pork on their menu is going to be succulent and satisfying. I only bemoan the lack of ribs. The juke joint (oldies on the jukebox) has a classic bar with a lot of craft beers and interesting cocktails. If you don't feel like BBQ, the burgers are very nice, too. Staff is very congenial, service is very good.

Saws Juke joint is a great place to stop in for some beer, wings, and some live music. I love the combo of fun bar and great food. Usually fun bars have terrible food. Not Saws Juke Joint. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Parking is shared with several other businesses, and could be tough. I look forward to going back and trying their other menu items.

But..., when you leave the stringy rib in the turnip leaf, so tough it requires a knife to cut, well that's just plain lazy cooking. I'll try it again and let you know...

This restaurant was good flavor and the wait staff was on the ball!!! Food, drinks all showed up very quickly. My husband got the pulled chicken (if you don’t do mayo, ask them to leave the white sauce off). He said the chicken was fantastic!!! My son said the pulled pork was awesome!! I got the fried green tomatoes BLT and sweet potato fries they were perfect!! The banana bread pudding was tasty!!! The BBQ sauce is a runny sweet BBQ. That is expected on this side of the world!!! They have a thicker sauce in the back. You have to ask for it. music indoors!! Decor is awesome!! Our only complaint: If you sit outside you will be exposed to smokers. I feel the restaurant could set a smoke pit away from the outside tables out of courtesy to people eating on the patio.

The food was good with good beer choices and live entertainment. My loaded BBQ potato was big and flavorful. The fried okra appetizer had the vegetable sliced length wise and served with dipping sauce. Saw's had a few seafood dishes, served on grits, that some others at my table ordered that looked great. My wife and I thought the BBQ was average but the presentation of the meals were appealing which leads to my slightly above average rating.

My favorite barbecue place in Birmingham. My favorite is the loaded chicken baker. Tons of flavor, the chicken is very tender, and you get a ton of food for your money. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu though. Also, It's a very cool atmosphere and place to hang out, and the staff are always very helpful and friendly.

This was my first visit and will also be my last visit. I had to wear my coat inside because it was cold inside the building. Might be a good place for lunch but truly lacking for dinner because they only offer sandwiches, salads and baked potato's. Clearly the cost of the food was not reflected in the quality or quantity of the food. My co-worker got the soup and grilled cheese and he described the grilled cheese sandwich as lacking. Clearly there are much better places to spend my food dollars, especially someplace that is warm inside the building.

While good, the restaurant in Edgewood has better food. I suppose the neighborhood feel and overall cool vibe of the place is overwhelming to a lot folks. With that said, my experience has been decidedly hit or miss...mostly due to the service. The last time my wife and I went there, we ended up leaving after not seeing a server for at least 10 minutes (set my timer after I had been there for some time). This despite trying to waive a server down, and telling the host. I suppose we were invisible that night...which isn’t as unusual as it should be in the restaurant industry. Other nights? It has been mostly a B or B minus effort on the service (in aggregate over about a half dozen visits), which is why this is hanging onto a 3 star in my book.

This place is a really cool laid back environment. If you go at a busy time of day you may have a bit of a wait but...do yourself a favor...wait. They have a cool little bar scene inside but also have tables and chairs as well as booths. When they ask you if you would like an app for starters...you do...and that apps name is smoked wings! After your app, get the sweet tea chicken sandwich that is drizzled with Alabama white sauce!!! JUST DO IT!!! Not too badly priced for what you get and well worth any line you stand in. And last but not least....get the banana pudding! It’s to die for.

We shared smoked wings, fried pickles, and fried green tomatoes as appetizers. They were some of the best wings I’ve ever had. Great house “white sauce”! I had the pulled pork sandwich and sweet potato fries as an entree. Those were the best sweet potato fries I’ve ever had- hands down. The service was prompt and friendly. My only complaint is the noise level. However, that’s what you would expect from this kind of bar/restaurant and I’m not taking any stars away since the food was so excellent.

Went in to grab a baked potato, which was sold out. The loaded potatoe chips were recommended by the bartender. She was absolutely correct ...have them with white and red barbecue sauce. Very yummy

Best BBQ in the Ham. Or at least the best Alabama white sauce. This Saw's location actually has seating that won't make you claustrophobic as well.

Great food and service. Several TVs and a lively bar for the drinkers(those days are behind me). Food portions are far from skimpy. Might need a nap after your dining experience.

Busy bar and barbecue restaurant. Casual and kid friendly. Everything I have had there has been good. Especially love the house specialty, which is barbecue and greens. This dish includes grits and delicious onion rings. Warning: no ribs. Good selection of draft beers and full bar. Recommend do not get table near door in cold weather.

Great food! Great sweet tea. Sweet tea fried chicken is great, I would definitely order again. Pulled pork has great flavor. The bbq sauce is very vinegar tasting I am not fan of it but everyone else might. The fried pickles are too salty. I do not recommend those. They will not change them out either, you will be stuck paying the price for food you can not eat. My tongue is burned by the oversalted pickles. I feel like they could of taken the pickles of my bill but the waiter refused. Otherwise, I will def come back.

Not at all what we expected but pretty impressed! On a Saturday, we were able to experience a live band and Classic R&B on the PA. Our waitress Jackie was pretty awesome, our food was prompt, and the atmosphere was nice. The shrimp boil (special for the day) was okay and needed a little more seasoning. The pork stuffed baked potato made up in flavor and filled my guy right up! As for me, I was very satisfied with my vegetarian options of fried green tomatoes and veggie stuffed baked potato with no onion. And of course ...dessert. May try a differnt option in the future. Banana pudding was okay...Bananas & sugar. Will we return? Sure!! Good Price! Good Eats! Good Service!
