Best in country cooking. Friendly waiters. Relaxed family atmosphere. Quick service...
Best home cooking since I was a child. Great place
Everything is good and seasoned just rite! I would go everyday if I could! The apple and cheese casserole is really something special! You definitely will be pleased eating here! Friendly down home folks and great service all around. Even met the cook. She is super sweet.....
Great home cooking for a good price!
Excellent !
Food and service great as always!
Didnt know the price until after eatting..dessert is extra
The restaurant used to be an old schoolhouse so there is plenty of history and rustic charm. The food (southern-style buffet) is good but there is not a wide selection from which to choose. Also, the staff is friendly and the price is around $10. My ownly beef is that the dessert is not included in the price of the buffet. You have to pay over $2 for a slice of pie or cake; they are baked fresh but the indivually priced desserts are a little too high.
June 2018 Sunday lunch. Coming from Mtg I've heard of this place for years but never had the opportunity to go and try it out. While in the area visiting family we decided to eat after the peak period past. Upon entering sign read to wait for seating, yet the 2 at register saw us but made no ~ or seat us. Finally the older lady counting register just told us to sit anywhere. I was craving some home cooked veggies, meats & cornbread. Well it was just ok. Maybe it was when we arrived but bar wasn't ever refreshed. My server was a sweet girl that fixed her lunch, sat down & ate. I realize it's buffet, but they have to refill your beverages. The sweet tea was cold & refreshing. Fried chicken & broccoli chik casserole were the better of the meat choices. Loved the casserole! Not a fan of gizzards or liver but if you are they got them. Peas, butter beans, green beans were good. Mac&Cheese was different. Salad bar like most small places with basic fixings & potato/mac/carrot salads & slaw. They were chopped to almost a mush. Taste was fine, but presentation lacked. Fried cornbread & ? Mayo rolls were missing something. Noticed a few regulars came same time as us & were greeted by name. If you wanted dessert (pie) it was close to $2 (never paid this much for a buffet & then had to pay extra for dessert & drink) The decor is based on a schoolhouse yet it really needs some freshening up. The ladies bathroom is it's original & hot (was 98° outside) All in all I was disappointed in my visit I'd looked so forward too over the years. Maybe the food was lacking the freshness I'd expected due to arriving between 1 & 2pm. It's got potential if some TLC is given to make its appearance appealing inside & look either like a restaurant or old schoolhouse. Don't believe anyone cares to see next roll of TP unwrapped an sitting inch from floor. Did enjoy "trying" to name each president as I looked up high at their picture's hung just slightly below ceiling. Visited & returned often to some real dive restaurants because the service, price & food was awesome, but today this just missed the mark. If ever in area again may give it a 2nd try.
Wonderful food and great prices. Quaint location...
Great food! Awesome fried chicken and cornbread, fresh veggies, fresh old school salad bar, homemade pie......what else could you want!❤❤❤
Great service. Great food. Nuff said.
Best food in South Montgomery County!!
Amazing! Family friendly and the best food around. Worth the drive.
Food is really good and the staff is very pleasant!
Excellent home cooked meal! Chocolate pie was so good!
The pecan pie was especially good tonight!
The buffet was good and fresh pies. Great family place to eat.
All you can eat country cooking. But get there around the primary feeding times. Arrived at 2:00 PM and the fried chicken had cooled off. It was good but I prefer mine hot. You will hurt yourself if not careful. You will keep going back. My favorite item is the apples and cheese, a must try.
Awesome homemade food. Amazing place to eat and visit with family.
ALWAY GOOD. FRIENDLY FOLKS
Good country restaurant good country cooking
Great home cooked meal in a friendly atmosphere
Good food nice people
The food ànd pie's were"AUSOME" plus the service was quick like going to Grandmother's House for Sunday lunch ! Y'all come back ya hear .
Great food, great environment
Well run family restaurant. Cute decor. Food was good. We had an enjoyable Thanksgiving meal. Dessert and drinks are extra.
Great place to eat, historic and great food. Highly recommended.
Great food and employees.
Excellent home cooked food Great service
There is a good selection of salads and the main course included some good southern options. I enjoyed the chicken gizzards best of all. There were some detractors that I will chalk up to it being the Easter rush.
The best home cooked food ever. And the people there are great!!!❤
We have heard how great this place is. Everyone was right, the food was delicious and the service was great. Can't wait to go back!
Great Country Cooking!
It was all good.
The food is top notch at Red's. Only eaten there twice but plan to go back sometimes with entire family.
Always good selections. Often humid inside. Always friendly service. Great desserts.
BOY HOWDY !!!! We made the short trip south of Montgomery with my parents for our "after church lunch." I am not usually impressed with a restaurant anymore but Reds has earned a new customer. Family style buffet with great customer service in a historical building and off the beaten path. I can't say enough about it.
The food was great and the employees were extreamly nice
My wife loves this place for the buffet, I have not been as impressed.
My favorite "home cooked food"!
love the food never had I been in that town before coming from a church service was told about this restaurant the cook came out to meet us the waitress need more help on helping the guest but love the food and pies
Such a wonderful family oriented place. Really makes u feel at home. Best home cooked food I've had in a long time!!! Jan Jolley of Middleburg Florida!!!
Always great food, especially the fried chicken and vegetables. They usually have Bbq on the buffet and that's good too. I hunted in So. Montgomery county for 20+ yrs and really those miss Saturday night trips to Red's after a day of hunting. I've also eaten Thanksgiving dinner there quite a few times and it's always excellent. Great place.
Great food, the workers have a great attitude. They make the place.
THE BEST FOOD
Been going there for years good food good people
We like red a homely place with good food.
Great home cooking restaurant.
There's an awesome story about THIS window!!! Red's is an awesome place to meet, greet, eat... local or not, it's a friendly place! Driving through, stop in!! You won't be disappointed!
Extra charge for desert. No sign to advise of this.
Tasty and great service.
It's just as good as it was when I was a kid back in the 80s growing up in Grady. Those damn cornbread griddle cakes things are so so good.
Great place to bring family and friends. Food is homemade and delicious
I LOVE IT!
Great place to take the family, great food and service
December 2017 I traveled from Kentucky to say goodbye to my uncle who was terminal with cancer. For years he talked about how wonderful this place was, so while my mother and I were visiting, he made us load up in the car and drive to Grady, Alabama. Although the trip was difficult for him, it was worth it. This is now my favorite memory with my favorite uncle. Driving to a little school how tucked away in the boonies - and eating the best chicken I've ever had in my life. Definitely worth a visit! The character and hospitality of this wonderful restaurant have left an imprint on my heart and my stomach!
We traveled from Lake City Florida to eat here ! The food was absolutely delicious . We had the opportunity to meet Debbie (owner) and her father Mr. Red ! Everyone there was great! We plan to make a visit again real soon ! If you are anywhere close to this area..stop in for some good ole country food and the possibility of being serenade ! Debbie not only can cook good but she can sing and play the guitar !!!
Great country buffet plus menu items. Service is always excellent. Debbie grows a lot of the fresh vegetables served in her own garden. Been a patron for over twenty years and never been disappointed!
Great southern home cooking!
Oh my goodness! The buffet was well worth the drive. Southern food at its finest!
Ah what can I say Reds is the best kept secret in Montgomery. Set up in an actual old school house once inside sit down and enjoy what is arguably the best country cooking around. Go hungry cooking like granny use to make fresh vegetables lots of choices I can't say enough
I been wanting to go to Red Little School House for years. I guess we went at the wrong time. We went between lunch and dinner. We ate from buffet. They brought no additional food out. Heard them said from the kitchen, "We running out of everything", Yet they brought nothing out. Later, when I asked for lettuce for a salad since nothing else was coming out, I heard them say, " I guess we start cooking for the dinner crowd." The desert was a separate price which should have been included with the buffet. The waitress went from washing tables, giving out silverware, sweeping the floor while we was eating , to handing out pie without washing her hands, not once. When we went to pay, the lady like, "what you had?" In a nasty tone, ringing up tea, desert and than throw the ticket down on the counter with a couple of pens. Needless to say, I won't be back!
It is a great place to eat. The people are wonderful.
Good Country Buffet at a very reasonable price, great food just not worth the 100 mile drive, but that is not their fault.
Ate Thanksgiving lunch here. Food was fantastic! Make sure you come early as the crowd gets really heavy on this day. Their system for dealing with the crowd is top notch.
Great place to eat. Also very nice people.
It's called two trips in one...First and last. Waitress was very nice. Table was sticky.. Food on buffet wasn't worth the money. Desserts was separate. ..What a waste of time/money.....only good thing was dressing.. ..When got up to pay stood there at register 20 minutes while she waited on 3 to go orders before us...and we were at register first...unreal...
Great food and the price was also great.
Good food and friendly people
Nice atmosphere. Great southern comfort food!
Wow, you need to try this restaurant. Great food and so efficient. Crowded but fast.
Amazing food. Very nice staff. Fried chicken and cheesy apples are out of this world good.
Loved the food.and.the atmosphere... great place
Definitely would recommend this place! Great food, great quality, great service, and friendly staff!
Fantastic food. The buffet is awesome and worth the effort to get there.
I have been going to this restaurant ever since I was 4 years old and never have they disappointed me with there food or hospitality. The staff is friendly and Mrs. Debbie the owners daughter makes the best pies in all of Alabama. The honey mustard sauce they make is delicious. I highly recommend Little Reds Schoolhouse for all ages. You walk in as strangers but you leave as family. This place makes you feel like you are part of there family whenever you walk in the door. Love Love Love this place. Thanks Red and Mrs. Debbie for a wonderful experience everytime. They also cater some events.
As always, very good food. The one problem that I have is over eating.
Love this place drove 3 hours to get there and is willing to do it again and bring friend s when I go back. Great food and nice people
Great food!
Superb fried chicken and barbeque, a multitude of salad and vegetable choices served on an all you can eat, serve yourself bar. Housed in an early 1900's schoolhouse converted into a restaurant. My favorite place for authentic Southern country-style food.
Traveled 5 hrs just to eat here....and IT WAS WORTH IT! Delicious home cooked - made from scratch the old fashioned way - food! Impressed!! We WILL be back And....LOVE that it is in an OLD school house! You get to dine in a quaint little piece of history! And...the staff are good ole friendly southern folk! I just love it!
The fried chicken is amazing, so glad my girlfriend wanted to go here
Great friendly atmosphere and home cooked food. Its very quaintlittle old school house that has a buffet
Nice quaint little place off the beaten path. The food was good but not special.
If you like, better yet love some country cooking, then you need to drop in and indulge yourself. As grandma use to say, "It'll make your tongue slap your brains out!" From juicy, not greasy, fried chicken, livers, gizzards, butterbeans, peas, fried corn bread, sweet cream corn, mac and cheese, cabbage, greens, salad bar, and the list goes on. Try this fantastic buffet where if you don't get your fill, it's your fault. They put a spread out like going to a family reunion. Top that off with some good sweet tea, and then prepare to indulge in some homemade sweets, like pecan pie, coconut pie or chocolate, or even cake. Red's is good for one, the family, or even take your Sunday School class and continue your fellowship. Like I said, you can't go wrong unless you don't like country cooking with some soul!
Good food and good service!
Driving back roads when I saw it. Hit the brakes at the last moment and parked. Country cooking at its best. Good buffet and fresh baked pies As in the title, it's an old school house turned into a comfortable place to get a good meal.
Favorite place to stop when I'm in Troy...
Food and service was great. Peas, corn, green beans, and butter beans were just like home. Meatloaf send chicken were great. Make sure to eat the pecan pie.
I love the cooking at reds little school house.
Since I am always up for grabbing a bite to eat and I wanted to “hit the road” I suggested to my friend that we drive to Red’s Little School House... I think my favorite thing about Red’s is the deco...There is a menu but we opted for the buffet. I was a bit disappointed that there was no fish on the buffet but I made do with the available vegetables. Now, this is a country style buffet where even the vegetables often have some sort of meat in them. I am quite sure I consumed a fair share of animal based grease with my delicious butter beans, black eyed peas, and collard greens. Luckily for me, I’m not that picky. This is truly a gem of a place, please take the time to eat here if you are close.
Great food
Great home cooking like your mamma made!
GOOD Country cooking.

Always friendly and good food .lots of vegetables and fried chicken .home made pies..
Cute little place to go eat, it reminded me of the good old home Cooked meals.
A good amount of food to choose from and seeing old friends
Was my families first time coming here. We were welcomed with smiles and warm personalities. The Lady at the register helped us feel right at home. She gave us samples and helped us order exactly what we wanted. We will be back. This place is not just historic. Its homey and charming beyond its expectations.
Red's Little School House's cornbread is just about perfect! If you want good country cookin', this is where you need to go; it's worth the drive.
Love this place!!! I have been coming to this place since I was a kid and it never disappoints. It is the best place for real country cooking.
This little out of the way school house converted to restaurant is a wonderful place to visit. Every time I've brought friends out here they've been delighted at the ambience and the amazing food. They've always left overstuffed by the homemade pies. The last time we went there, there was an antique car show going on. Also a motorcycle riding club of about 20 bikers were there showing off their bikes and admiring the antique cars.
Had thanksgiving dinner here. T hey did a great job of getting t he masses t though the door and fed. Table for 7 was a challenge but the got us in and out in a timely fashion. The food was excellent as was the service.
Whomever runs the kitchen or is responsible for the food deserves an award! Absolutely amazing! Full buffet with all of the most delicious comfort food you could imagine. It was like stepping back in time. From the old school atmosphere, to the locals dining, it is a hidden treasure that is a must visit. The food was flawless. Imagine the best home cooked meal you have ever had and just know this will be better.
Best food you will ever eat!
Buffet was great. Fried chicken livers. Dumplings, fried cornbread just some of the great food they have. All employees friendly
Good food and atmosphere. Fair prices and old fashioned country cooking
Good country food. Like your grandmother made, if she was a good grandmother.
Everyone should eat here at least 1 time in their life

Great place to dine. Every one so friendly.
Was a good experience
Always love the personalized service and INCREDIBLE home cooking. The perfect southern restaurant all around!
Fantastic historic schoolhouse serving great food. A little off the beating path but we'll worth the visit. Fried Chicken was the best
Great food and friendly service. Wednesdays are the best.
If you want a home cooked meal go there
If you want some good down-home cooking that's where you need to go
Great buffet. Fantastic BBQ Salad. I'll be back.
Good food and great desserts.
Great food, great service. Worth driving over!
Great southern food buffet
Love this place! Great home cooking like grandma made! Wish I wasn't so far away from it, but worth the drive if you are anywhere close!
Great country food.
Always great staff and good food!
Very nice restaurant great friendly people and great food
Great food-with amazing variety on the buffet. Love the vegetables as well as fried chicken. Don’t forget to get the pie.
Great place. Wonderful country cooking. Like Grandma made. Like the shirt says "If you had better your grandma it.".
All food was fresh, hot or cold and plentiful at 2:00 Sunday! I always eat too much.
This little gem nestled in the seeming middle of nowhere is now on my "how did I live without" list. The people working there made me and my friends feel at home. The food reminds me of my grandmother's home cooking and the atmosphere is very charming and reminiscent of the schoolhouse it is named after. Some of the group had been there before and we're slightly disappointed that their favorite dish was not on the buffet that afternoon, and when they mentioned it in passing to the waiter he ran to the kitchen and had a batch made for them. A+ service with a smile! A bargain of a price for some of the best food I've had in many years, you can be assured it is well worth the drive (almost 40 miles for me). I will most definitely be back!
Good home cooking!!
Wonderful hospitality! (As the sign says, "....southern grace.") Veggies could have been seasoned a little better. Homemade pies delicious! Cornbread, fantastic! I've got to go back and try their steaks.
Great food, good price, very friendly staff.
Veggies always extraordinary as was yesterday. Meat loaf superb and BBQ very good. And the fried cornbread is worth the trip. What you waiting on. Hop on down there for as goof a grub as there is in this neck-of-the-woods.
Go here! Seriously!
Great place for good ole country cooking. The buffet is $9.50 and $9.00 for Seniors. The only problem I have here is I don't eat very much. Even putting a small amount on my plate with a little over a tablespoon of 3 types of vegetables, a piece of chicken and without eating a salad, I still can't finish it. If i want to carry the rest of it with me, I have to pay a price per pound. I even explained that I've had stomach surgery and don't eat much but I was still charged $4.50 to take it home. After I thought about it, the take out wasn't worth it because I was paying almost half of the buffet price. Come on now, I'm a size 4, don they really think this was my 2nd or 3rd plate, not. I'll be back in a few months when I crave some country cooking tho. It's excellent, fresh food. It's about 30 minutes from Taylor Road in Montgomery, area where I live, and a nice afternoon Sunday drive. Get there around 11:30 before the local churches get out if you don't want to wait on a table.
Great home cooked vegetables. The fried cornbread is a favorite. Great atmosphere.
Great down home cooking . Delish!!
Sunday Buffet is a little piece of Southern Soul Food Heaven!
Great food. We were too late for lunch and too early for supper. Ordered off the menu.
We love to eat here. Thanksgiving lunch is amazing.
Always awesome food and waitresses.
Food was delicious, as usual. Saw Debbie, Marhta, Red, and Debbie's kids. All working hard. It was a big crowd for Easter.
Great chicken
Good good. Love the fried corn bread and lemon meringue pie. Juicy fried chicken, great vegetables, peas, collards, green beans, etc. Also have a salad bar.
It is one of the top three best places to eat in the south!!!
This restaurant is hands down the best home cooking you can get outside of Grandmother's. And all you can eat , much of it local farm to table. Topped off with a great atmosphere in an authentic old school house with friendly folks.
The food was great and the service was awesome. If your in the area stop by for great food and a little history.
Like eating at your grandma's house, fine, fine food.
Oh my goodness. Best food ever
Friendly people, has everything you need, saves me from having to go all the way to town to get things. love it!
Awesome chicken livers!
This little place off the beaten path took me back to my grandmothers fried chicken, cream corn, collard greens and ho cakes. You could tell everything is made fresh. Including the homemade chocolate, pecan and coconut pies! We sat on the church bench on the porch after wishing we had a cup of coffee to hang out for awhile. We will definitely make the drive to come back here.
Delicious food, cozy ambiance, and great service!
