We are locals on the gulf coast and spending the day in AL. We love Mexican and decided to try this place out. Looks nice from the outside. The service was good. The food was the least authentic, tasteless and disgusting Mexican we have ever had. The salsa was just big clumps of tomatoes, the tamale was nothing but mush and the enchilada sauce was watered down salsa is what it tasted like. While everyone was friendly the food was the worst food we have ever had!!! We will not be back!

Enjoyed this thoroughly. I ordered Macho Nachos and will make another meal of my leftovers. Everyone ate including my picky children. Good fast service. Will definitely go back.

First tip...read the reviews before committing, that way if you go anyway you only have yourself to blame! After a busy day, a good bite to eat at a nice Mexican restaurant was on the mind. The name was cute so without taking my own advice we went in. Let me give a second tip...if the salsa is the most bland jarred salsa you could imagine...leave then...don't order food! If you choose to go forward ignoring tip number 2 prepare yourself for some more food from a box and service without a smile (unless of course you catch the waiter and waitress who are clearly in some kind of relationship as they kiss between tables). Thankfully we were lucky enough to be saved the emergency trips to the bathroom that others experienced but I must say...a return trip...not gonna happen. If the food is bad but the service is good...you try again...if the food is good and the service is bad...you try again. If it is all terrible and all you can do is laugh to keep from being angry...don't do it again!

Would be 5 stars but service was lacking. Drinks came quickly. Cheese dip took a while to arrive. Our meal was late and was served after two other groups that sat and ordered well after we placed our order. Was told the kitchen put our order at the end.

Purely excellent food for a great price. The chips are warm, the salsa is on point, the beans and rice are amazing, and to top it all off the crawfish enchiladas are to die for. I make it a point to visit this restaurant whenever I'm in the area

food was not that great. Was forced to order adult meal for an 11 year old and another teen with a small appetite...guess since they add gratuity to your check they want your bill higher. 2 of my kids were in the bathroom sick before we even left and after leaving I thought I would be sick. Asked for a booster for toddler, they never got it! Half of the staff was rude. Will continue to stick with Don Carlos up the road! Will always accommodate ANY request as far as food, you can order off any menu you like, staff is more courteous and atmosphere overall better...oh and gratuity may be hurting you cause my server would have had 5.00 more had we tipped her! last time dining at poor mexican! See why its called that because the food, staff and atmosphere are all poor!

Right to steal...food was good..service meh !if there are 6 or more at a table they add their own tip. It was 2 separate orders,still had to pay their added tip. Wrong wrong wrong ! I tip very well but i would like to do it myself. Not what they deem okay. Never again!

Awful. Worse than awful. We ate here on a Friday night around 6pm. It was not busy. Could not get a server to come to our table for 5-7 minutes. Food took 30 minutes to come out and was blah. Server never checked on us. Check took forever. Will never eat here again.

We visited here last week after giving it a four year rest due to a previous horrible experience. We were very hopeful. It wasn't very crowded, as we went early. The chips and salsa were timely and fresh. The waitress came to take our lunch order, which mind you is order by number off the menu, and we were still served the incorrect items. The manager told us it was her first day,etc. And I understand that everyone has a first day, but order by number, geez. unfortunately it ended with us saying to each other, we will never step foot in there again.

I absolutely love Mexican food. We eat it at least 2-3 times a week. And this used to be one of the better Mexican restaurants in town... The last time we visited here, I was only able to eat half of my food bc something just did not taste right, I left that night with horrible stomach cramps! Something I never feel from my favorite food! I will not be back EVER again!!!

Okay our meals arrive everything good until my wife bites down on a piece of plastic in the soup,instead of not charging us for (her) meal,they knock off $1.87 ,O.k. hasta la vista baby, will not go back, management should have thought that threw a little better

I was not at all satisfied with my meal and my children were not either. The so-called steak quesadilla was absolutely awful. The chunks of onion and bell pepper were too big and weren't grilled well. Also, there should be 2 tortillas with the ingredients inside and cut into sections, instead of 1 tortilla with the ingredients just dumped in it and flipped over! Smh.. I was so hungry for Mexican food that day and it was ruined. Do better, Poor Mexican.

Poor service- wrote down the wrong order and our sons food was given to another table. He received his meal, a grilled cheese sandwich, about the time we finished. The grilled cheese cost $5.50 and tasted like stale bread. Our food was sub par and the guacamole tasted like something you would get in a grocery store jar. Bypass this place and head to anywhere else.

Used to come here all of the time loved it for about the past year it has been terrible mostly due to service the food is fine but the new wait staff is horrible they are unfriendly and rude they act like it is an inconvenience to do their job if I were the owners I would get rid of the new staff and start over it used to be one of our favorite spots we would go at least once a week now we have not returned in over a year tried going back a couple weeks ago and remembered why we haven't come back the waiters and waitresses stink what Upp get rid of the Gringos they stink

We got the worst service ever. The waitress kept rolling her eyes when we were ordering. The cheese sandwich was dry and the bread was old, my grandson didn't eat it. While waiting to be seated, there was about 4 groups ahead of us and a lot more behind us, but we were the last to be seated. The girl that was on the register cursed. We were nice anyway. This was the worst place I have ever been to. I don't recommend it to anyone, and I will never go back.

The food was okay a little on the high side. The waitress was extremely forgetful. They weren't even busy but yet it took 20 minutes to get a small bowl of lemons. We asked for unsweet tea and got sweet tea. Sent drink back and she still brought us sweet tea 3 more times.

Our experience at this restaurant was dreadful! Horrible service and rude employees! When we told the hostess our party amount she used profanity under her breath to basically say she wouldn’t seat us until there was no one else left! Once we were seated the waitress was rude and didn’t pay attention to any details at all! Honestly I can’t even think of anything good to say about the experience and I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone!

I would say, Drive through fast food is better than this place. Way too expensive for the frozen TV dinners we were served. Do not waste your money, very disappointed. On a positive note, waitress was friendly and did a good job.

So hard to find good Mexican food in this area. This is by far the best!! Carne Asada tacos are always great. I have not had anything from here I was not happy with. Clear restaurant, friendly staff, good affordable food and good margaritas. They have been very quick with the food every time I have eaten here. I highly recommend poor Mexican to anyone!

They are really working hard, just don't have the help to get themselves over the top. Wait was right at 45 minutes, food wasn't good... wasn't bad, just ok. A bit salty. Really do wish it was better, as I've always been a fan, but I don't really see myself going back anytime soon. On a positive note, they did finally bring food, last time I went to Don Carlos, I left after 45 minutes when they had yet to even take my order!!!

I was here Wednesday 5/22/19 around lunch time . The service was great. But on the other hand the food was awful . The cheese that was on anything was runny like water the chile relleno taste like it was very old . The quesadilla had water dripping out of it instead of cheese it was cloudy water. In order to have good business u need to have good food . The service was amazing

How do you screw up Mexican? These people figured it out! The service and food was bad! The salsa tasted like it came out of a jar. The server acted like we were a burden. The only time he smiled was when he flirted with the waitress that walked by. This place needs better management. Please read the reviews before going! You will notice a theme.

This place was awful. Plenty of tables, not enough staff (competent staff). When the hostess asked how many were in our group, she replied “sh@!, I’m not seating them!” We even asked if it would help to split up the group and they said no. Then sat others down that came after us when they could’ve sat us first if they broke our group down. We weren’t difficult. Most of the employees, (not all), had very rude attitudes. Wouldn’t even give this a 1 star and will never go back.

I've been here 3 or 4 times and the food is below average. The beans are good, and the chicke is........OK, but the beef is like Taco Bell just 3x as expensive. The service is unusually good, but I would try another place to get your Mexican good fix.

I've had good service every time I've gone and the food is good. However, their drink pricing is weird. Just get small margaritas, the medium and larges are just a rip off. You pay more money but you don't get that much more marg. Like twice the price for 25% more liquid. Just stick to smalls in my opinion.

Aptly named: Poor Mexican. Just insert 'Food' at the end to complete the title. The food is about what I would describe as on the level of Taco Bell. Being from Colorado, I've eaten Mexican food from many places in the state, as well as New Mexico. I ordered enchiladas, and the plate consisted of 3 beef enchiladas, rice and beans - all bland, with hardly any flavor. As another poster said, the people were friendly. I suspected the dinner would be mediocre after eating the bland salsa served with tortilla chips, which consisted of only diced tomatoes, onions and very few bits of jalapeno peppers. Just a suggestion: Try adding cumin, cilantro, and some spices to the salsa and meal items.

Good taste, good FAST service, open, large space w/inside fountain, colorful atmosphere (4 TVs thankfully on mute). Not really accommodating on trying to come up w/salad needed. Vegan make-do: sides: mushrooms which were perfection, ($1.95) + beans, average ($1.75) , + guacamole which wasn't my fave (2 oz. $.95), acidic taste I couldn't identify. Companion had vegetarian quesadilla ($8.95), which was more like a huge grilled soft taco, spilling out w/grilled veggies, (shared the scrumptious, generous onions and few carrots), but couldn't pick it up bc it was wet, so had to fork/knife it. Waitress should have informed me about the addt'l charge for rice n beans @$1.75 ea. bc it was assumed they came with quesadilla. Total for one meal was $12.45 before tax. Spendy? Ended at $18.72 before tip. Potted plants outside need TLC (food & water?), should nix tacky sign on door. Nice outside patio would like to try next time, (looks underused, maybe bc of its placement). Looks closed. Hate to see them not make it so hopefully they will step it up. A nice meal, great company.
