Second time visiting Melt. Good food, the atmosphere's cool, service is fast and, so far, super friendly (I'd imagine the inebriated Avondale crowd can get particularly annoying at times, so no fault of the servers). With drinks the overall cost can get a bit up there, but nothing tremendously outrageous and you still get a meal to satisfy. Looking forward to the next visit.

The food was good but overpriced. I'd say the sandwiches should have cost more like 8 dollars for what they were. My wife got a reuben. She enjoyed it, but it wasn't unique from any other reuben we've had. I got the Ragin Cajun sandwich. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't worth the cost in my opinion. The fries were above average. The kid's meal of chicken nuggets was a good option for one kid and our other kid liked the mac n cheese that I added as a side to my sandwich for a few extra bucks. We did enjoy the fried pickles appetizer quite a bit. The atmosphere was nice, the place was designed well and the music selection worked. Overall it was a good experience that I'm glad we tried, but I probably won't go back now that I've had it. Either the food needs to become more unique/desirable to justify the cost, or the prices need to come down a few bucks for each item.

It was just ok... I think everything on the menu is a few dollars over priced. Kids meals are $8. Servers seem to be a little scatter-brained and forgetful. The food was pretty good though.

Hubby and I split the Ragin Cajun sandwich and the Perfect Picnic Trio. We really enjoyed it. The trio is warm, flaky chips served with chicken salad, pimento cheese, and a black bean-black eyed pea-corn mixture. Each condiment for the chips comes in a small jar and all were very tasty. This is a great dish for a light lunch in the summer time. The sandwich was blackened chicken breast pieces with cole slaw on toasted bread. It was fantastic. We had great service as well. We will definitely go back. They use local or home made ingredients whenever they can and the food has a fresh taste to it. I've suggested Melt to several friends and family. Everyone loves it.

The classic grilled cheese is delicious, and so are the appetizers. Service is a bit too slow for the type of food and experience you are getting, but atmosphere of the resturant is good. The servers are also very nice.

MELT is so yummy. It is usually pretty busy, and they don't take reservations, but it is worth it. They have things to do outside while you wait like hula-hoops, corn hole, and a neat hang out spot. It is a cool and fun environment, and the food is delicious. They have a neat twist on the basic grilled cheese and tomato soup, and they have so many different options, so there is something for everyone.

Service by Kevin was stellar. Food was delightful. We started with fried pickles and food truck nachos. Both excellent choices. My sweet tea had flavor. My low carb friend had the burger. Her request to have it wrapped in lettuce and not on a bun was willingly accommodated. Two of us had patty melts and the other had the Ragin Cajun Sandwich all good choices. The ranch dressing is homemade and the salad was pretty. We finished of our meal with fried Oreos. Kevin our server was good. This is what happened...my friend ordered her salad "no onion" but ahe ordered a patty melt (which of course has onions). He came back to the table to ask her if she meant to or did she want her patty melt "no onion" because she ordered her salad "no onion". WHO DOES THAT? Kevin does. He also kept our drinks refreshed and checked on us regularly. We left satisfied and will be back. The music playlist kept us singing and reminiscing as we ate. Nice neighborhood spot.

If you are a cheese lover this is definitely the place for you! Maybe you just need to stress eat this is your go to place! I highly recommend getting the Mac melt with bacon.

I did not expect MELT to be so busy. They have a constant flow of customers and the restaurant is pretty lively too. We loved the creative dishes they made like the grilled cheese mac melt and the chicken parmesan sandwich as well as the delicious bread, goat cheese and honey. It was a little loud for a romantic date, but still a great place to take your loved ones for fun time and a great meal. We will definitely go there again.

This restaurant offers a nice laid back atmosphere for the family. They have board games you can bring to your table or even play games outside while waiting for your table. The waitress was very nice. The food was pretty good also even though I believe the burgers could use a little more flavor. We didn't care much for the mac and cheese, it was cheesy but lacking flavor. We love that its in the Avondale area where u can walk around and just enjoy.

Nice staff, the best macaroni & cheese I have ever had. Casual yet high quality food and service. Tomato basil soup was great too. I like the wings mural outside, you can take a great picture there. And they have a nice area just outside where you can hang out if there's a wait for a table.

They were really busy and forgot to bring our waters to start as we ordered other drinks as well and the kitchen forgot the bacon for my partners sandwich but both were immediately corrected and they added a desert for free to our meal as an apology. Even though they were crowded our waiter was attentive and positive. Will definitely be returning!

From out of town and was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Excellent food and service. Came in around 6 on a Saturday and they wait was much better than I expected. Was a cooler night and we were seated in the outer, patio like room with a heater in the middle. Pretty sure I left with a tan on the left side of my body and eventually became a little uncomfortable, but not a big deal. Also had to basically move people out of the way who were standing/waiting by the counter but that isn't a restaurant issue but more of a self-entitled, 20-something problem.

I had the Ole Smokey melt which includes turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo with a toasted sourdough bread. I added the street mustard they have on the table and it added more flavor to the already tasteful sandwich!! I do have to say if you get this sandwich be prepare to get your hands dirty, the lettuce kept falling and the turkey juice dripping but didn't care because it was so satisfying!

Just had my first time visit at melt and it was great. I had the Mac melt and the nachos and it was amazingly flavorful. I liked the consistency of taste in the Mac and cheese and the open environment. Our waitress was kind and I'll definitely be back again! The only gripe is parking and lack of real obvious signs with the business name. Keep it up!

The atmosphere was great and as was the service for the most part. My party only got refills on drinks once, although server was very kind, respectful, and personable. The food, for all of the hype, was a little disappointing. I got the Mac Melt which is a grilled cheese sandwich with their homemade macaroni and cheese on it on Texas toast. The macaroni was a little bland really. I didn't dislike my experience but I know there are better grilled cheese specialty restaurants and for all the hype I was a little let down.

Great time on a weeknight!! Plenty of fun Avondale outdoor murals and games If you have to wait, but we didn’t. Menu is epic grilled cheeses but has lots of healthier options! The fried pickles were ON POINT, burgers were cooked amazing, and the banana Nutella dessert (pictures) was worth every calorie.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Birmingham area. All of their food is so good. It's always packed here so I would suggest calling or getting there early. Nonetheless, they have stuff to do and places to sit in case there is a large crowd.

This place is okay, we got raging cajun and the ole smokey and they were good but lacked good flavor. The raging Cajun was disappointing on flavor. They were out of pulled pork as well. The mac and cheese was very cheesy but just okay, I would not get it again. The beer battered fries were okay as well. The service was really poor. My dad loved it however, and wants to return. The rest of the family does not care to return.

This place was really cool! It's very kid friendly! They had board games and full coloring books for the kids. My kiddo and I played Connect 4 while we waited! I ordered the Reuben and mac and cheese. It was pretty good as far as sandwiches go! I think the mac and cheese could use a little something. Maybe bacon or garlic! I do have to say their rosemary ketchup and the honey mustard are really good! My kiddo had the kid's quesadilla and mac and cheese. She said it was good! It was a lot of food too! She had left overs to take home. We also ordered the pretzel covered cheese bites and the fried oreos. The only critique I have is that the batter on the oreos is much too thick. It's almost like pancake batter. Even my kid didn't like them, so that kind if says a lot! We ended up giving them to another table.

Stopped in for lunch on the way through, we got a burger and nachos. Nachos had plenty of flavor, homemade chips that were less like nachos and more like potato chips but still delicious. The burger had some great grilled cheese goodness going on in addition to the meat, which despite the cheesy goodness was still able to assert its flavor. Delicious meat, delicious cheese, and a good local beer selection to boot. Would definitely return.

Mac and cheese roll was dynamite. Side salad was also great. The Three Amigos was flavorful but dry. (Next time I'd ask for a runny egg or some dipping sauce.) On the way out, I noticed that the special was a chicken salad melt. Had I known, I definitely would've tried it. Our server didn't mention it. They also threw out the tea before the restaurant closed. All in all, some pros and some cons but I'd return.

The service was good and the wait was not too long. My party of 6 including a child got our food in a timely manner and the price was decent. The parking is terrible. I would have given 5 stars if there was a better parking option, but I ended up having to park in front of someone's house. I'm not sure there is much you can do about it though.

Went for lunch and was slightly disappointed by how few grilled cheeses were listed on the menu. I only saw 3 or 4. Perhaps I just misread the menu but for a location that "specializes" in a specific type of sandwich there should be more of those options. With that said, the Mac melt was delicious. Overall was a great experience.

Service was spectacular, food was great. We had a party of 8 and were quickly seated. This was 11am on a Saturday. Between all of us, we had just about every major type of dish. Lots of mac and cheese, burgers, salad, grilled cheese, sandwiches. Everything was great. The mac and cheese was more onion-y than I was expecting, but still delicious. The Mac N' Eggroll was probably the best thing I had, really fantastic. It's not all that cheap, but I feel it's worth what you pay.
