This was some of the best soul food cooking I've eaten
Great place for a meat and three. The Fried Chicken was fantastic
Southern cooking at its best. I had the veggie plate, the portions were large and delicious. The cole slaw tasted just like my Mother's...loved everything.
Some of the best food you could ever eat. The people are friendly and welcoming. Service was fast, the food was hot and fresh. I got the chicken which was juicy and crispy, My hubby got the roast beef and gravy(very tender).
Still the best in town.
Very clean nice place to eat at and very friendly service and very good food I couldn't have picked a better place to eat me and my husband enjoyed it and our five kids enjoyed the meal and it was very friendly service nice people nice area to eat at
The service and food is great the cornbread with butter dripping off of it is wonderful.
One of the best meat and threes I've ever been to. The food and service is always top notch. There famous fried chicken is the best I have ever had. The sweet tea is also awesome. Very good price for what you get.
Best best food in Alabama
Great southern home style cooking.
Good food and service
Martin's is a great place to eat home cooking.
Server did a terrible job! Was totally ignored by her after meal was served!!!!!
Always a delight!! Exceptional food and service.
If you want a really great nap eat the food here.
Wow! What a phenomenal place to eat, some of the best southern cooking I’ve had in a long time! It was all so homemade and delicious. Truly the best fried chicken I have had. The price is amazing for what you get, and you will be taking home leftovers! The biscuits and cornbread are mouthwatering, just like the rest of the food. The sweet tea tasted amazing. I feel like this a must try in Montgomery. Love, love, love!!
Was not impressed! The day I went in just about all the meat I liked was only available as fried & no option for baked! I did not order...I left & probably won't return!
Outside of grandma's kitchen, this is the best fried chicken you will find in the state of Alabama. It appears in plenty of magazines, books, etc, and with good reason, it is that good. You know how the skin slides off the meat as soon as you bite into it? Not at Martin's...they batter it juuuuust right! Montgomery is like the meat and 3 capital of the planet, so you have choices, but Martin's stands out above them all. Full menu with plenty of meat and side dish options; wonderful "country food" that always hits the spot. Lemon meringue pie is also a must, if you have room!
Awesome food friendly service
My favorite place to eat in Montgomery. Like being at your Grandmother's.
Great lemon pie
I go to Martin's 3 times a week. Great food. They pile the food up and not bad for price.
The best fried chicken anywhere!!
Good food with friendly service.
I love family owned places. The food is great and the service is genuine.
Their catfish was very good !!!! We will be back eating here again when we visit Montgomery...
Great Southern food: fried chicken, home style vegetables, other meats. Really good tea. Loved it.
Food and service were good but on left side tables and chairs way too close!!! Fire Marshall needs to correct that. Back to back with people and no way to get out of chair without asking someone to move!!!
Great service and food
This is an outstanding restaurant in every way. The service was superb, the food was really great, variety is very good. Highly recommend it.
A perfect embodiment of Southern culture and cuisine. The chicken and the fried oysters were excellent, big portions as you'd expect. The pass around biscuits and cornbread were some of the best we'd ever had. The atmosphere was that down home, nothing fancy, but welcoming vibe. Fond memories from time spent in the deep south. Totally worth a visit if you are in the Montgomery, Alabama area.
Delicious old fashioned country cooking and excellent service!
Absolutely delicious.....and cheap!
Excellent food and service.. the best chicken ever. So tender and juicy.
Best apple pie I've had. Staff is extremely friendly!
Good Southern home cooking at a decent price.
GREAT HOSPITALITY and FOOD LOVE IT❤
As good as example of southern "meat and three" as you're likely to find. Open daily, reasonably priced, tasty food, . . . . I wish they had cornbread as an entree! They'll bring you plenty of cornbread, but sometimes I just feel like I could spend the afternoon eating cornbread and drinking tea. The place stays busy --- and with good reason!
I love this place! The food is delicious home cooking! One plate is enough for at least 2 people. The service is fantastic. We had a very sweet lady wait on us. My tea never ran out. She was so sweet to all the guests. Her smile was infectious. My brother and I were taking a break from the hospital while my dad was having surgery to remove cancer. It was a relief to be somewhere to relax for just a few, but still close to the hospital. Thank you for being so kind.
Best meat and 3
Can't beat Martin's. Best fried chicken next to my grandmother's. Staff is very friendly.
Martin's always delivers. I've never had a bad meal here.
Food was good. But Green beans were overcooked. Great cooks in the kitchen, I'm sure but to acquire that taste for can veggies, the water must be seasoned. If they were fresh or frozen, they were cooked too long.
The food is outstanding
Great place with awsome food
Food is always GOOD! And when you dine in they fill you up. Great service! A place to stay in line for.
Down home cooking. Fried foods are never greasy. Vegetables are delicious. As soon as the fresh-from-the-oven cornbread comes to the table, slather a piece with butter and enjoy a little taste of heaven. Martin's has been a Montgomery staple, because the service is good and the food is fantastic.
Delicious meat and three! Their cornbread and fried chicken are seriously the best. Would eat here once a week if I could.
Wonderful place to eat if your taste buds don't exist and you have money to throw away. 3 dinner meals for almost 50, and mine I wouldn't have expected to pay more than 5 for. Fried shrimp that had too much batter and were undercooked so there was oily mush under the fried outside. Rice that tasted like it was boiled in a bag, standard supermarket frozen rolls. Overcooked fried green tomatoes that were mushy, and I can't complain too much about the slaw except it was rather bland, but at least it wasn't horrific like the rest of the meal.
This is not just your standard meat and three. Choices of entree change daily. The vegetables and sides are great. The signature fried chicken is available everyday. Portions are large, service is fast, and prices are reasonable. An entree with 3 sides, iced tea, with cornbread or rolls is $ 10.00 tax included.
Okay, no wine list here, but just about every meal included fresh brewed sweet tea...my friend (from Minnesota) said it was the best fried chicken she had ever eaten...she had cole slaw and some other northern specialty, I, as a true southerner would never order, much less remember...but she was happy! I ordered some fried chicken livers, snap beans, black eyed peas, and collards...a serving so large, I actually had to take it back to the hotel and heat it up for breakfast to go with a couple of fried eggs...don’t go judging me now, it was delicious both times!
Pretty good comfort food served here. $11/ plate. Was hoping chkn/dumplings was on the permanent menu. Alternate Fridays
Best home cooking in the tri-county area ! best fried chicken from any place you good find .
Good local food....definitely down home southern cooking. This restaurant is very close to Maxwell AFB, good for groups, large portions, reasonable prices and friendly staff. I met my friend for dinner one night while I was in town and we both ordered the ribs. They were very tender and tasty. We both thought our sides were great as well. I wasn't a huge fan the cornbread; it was a little dry for my taste, but the sweet potato casserole was good enough to be pie! :-) We didn't try the desserts because we were so full, but I hear the pies are fantastic. Thanks for a great dinner!
Great place for southern cooking
Martin is okay for home cooking
Food was wonderful ❤❤❤ BUT it was just my son & i. I took him to the restroom QUICKLY come back and they had cleared my table and was trying to seat someone else. Thankfully i hadnt got my food yet so all was good.
Great meat and 3. Delicious fried chicken. Can get very busy during lunch hours, but service is usually pretty quick.
This place is amazing! They are super friendly and the food is really good!! However, I wish the dressing had meat in it but it was still good. This was the first time that I had rutabaga as a side but to my surprise it was worth it. I made sure that I stop back by this place on the way back to Atlanta from Pensacola.
HUGE PORTIONS. This food is the best home cooked meal you've had. My mouth waters just thinking about it.
Great food, great service, down-home ambiance, and to die-for meringue pie.
Best cornbread I've ever had. We went here because we read people travel here for the chicken and it was great! It was a perfect all around country dinner.
If you enjoy Southern comfort food, this place is for you. Come hungry!! The portions are ample, the food is delicious, the service is great and the price is affordable! When I'm in Montgomery, AL, I look no further!
Martin's has great Home Style Southern food. Always hot. Great servings. Great value for the money.
Great country food. Portions are enormous. Pricing is not expensive. Very good place. Only problem is they need more space for seating
Great home cooked food!
I love this place, but sadly this was not a good day for them. After I have had time to forgive I will try again.
Great food waitress service
Enjoyed the fried chicken and the veggies are good as well. Very friendly workers the biscuits and cornbread are best!
Great food! The fried chicken was amazing! HUGE portions. It was really crowded, but immensely worth it.
Food is great and the service is also. I gave three stars because I didn't like th ambiance. Wood panel walls and checked table cloths, gives it a older dated feel. I would recommend it because of the food and service. Just remember when you go in it will feel like you stepped into an older time period. Nothing but love for then.
Had a great meals at Martin's today. Eat there often. Great southern cooking at it's best. Great portion sizes and very friendly service. A must try, if you haven't alread
The sweet potato casserole was good enough to be pie!
Good old southern cooking!!!!
This is a family who loves to share their home cooking with those who enjoy a heaping plate of good food. Here, you get a meat with 3. If you ask for 2 chicken breast, they are going to be on your plate--hot to the bone AT NO EXTRA COST!! The chicken is so good that my nephew almost bit his finger off (ha ha...) Good atmosphere in which you never know whom you may get a glimpse of.
We were looking for good Southern cooking and we came to the right place. It all tastes homemade and we found lots of vegetable sides. The fried green tomatoes and butter beans were the best. It’s a short drive from downtown but it’s worth it. Lots of Southern hospitality too!
This place in Montgomery is one of the best eating places we have been to in a long time home cooking great food will surelv go back
Bland and too salty. Not sure why this has so many 5 star raitings, must not have much to pick from in Montgomery. For the price the portions are good sized. You get what you pay for, much better places out there though. Could use a remodel and a bathroom cleaning. Besides that, I would not go back.
Good food server was rude but good food
The best in Montgomery..
Always great food
Food was not hot and cornbread and fried chicken was hard maybe because it was near closing time which was no excuse food should always be hot.
I heard rave reviews. It was good but definitely doesnt rank high. However, the service was good even though it was busy. Also, the sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes are addictive
Fried chicken is great! Cornbread is great. Wait is not too long. Waitress was better than usual.
Great food and wait staff.
Very good traditional Southern fare.
Food was good, needs to be thoroughly cleaned
Terrific meal, great chicken!!
I couldn't have cared less about the carbs. This was my Mother's Day meal and it was worth every one of them and the calories. It's good home style cooking. And it's easy to see (and taste!) why their fried chicken was voted best in Alabama. It's some seriously good fried chicken. Portions are huge and your appetite will be too once you smell the food.
Best fried chicken and cornbread I've had anywhere! Great, friendly service! If you live southern cooking, this is the place to go.
This is some of the best food you'll find in the south. Fried chicken is outstanding and the sides are phenomenal.
The best friend chicken and Arnold Palmers.
Good food good price
Food was good just to salty on some of the food.
Great Fried chicken!
Great chicken. Friendly service.
Generally I like this place but today was not good. We waited 50 minutes for our food and I ordered a chicken breast. I don't know what was on my plate. I asked for lemons for my tea twice, never got it. The only thing I will come back for is the chocolate pie.
We will definitely stop to eat there any time we go through Montgomery! First time there yesterday as we had to leave Fla early bc of the Hurricane. First, we are all lovers of good ol southern country cooking, and that’s what they serve! Delicious chicken, roast beef, vegetables, even their cherry jello! And PIE...me oh my! All homemade! Then, there was the service...kind, friendly, efficient, over the top. To add icing on the cake, when we went to pay, the lady at the register (I’m pretty sure she was the owner) asked if we had left Fla bc of the hurricane, and we said we had, that our trip had been cut short a couple days and she said, “That’s what I thought. Your lunch today is on me!” We we’re shocked and even said no, but she insisted. Who does that nowadays?!!! Thank you Martin’s Restaurant in Montgomery, AL! We will be back and tell everyone we know to stop there too! This helped make our long traffic filled ride home a bit better! God bless you!
SOUTHERN HOME COOK food was GREAT. Friendly staff & service reasonable prices.
Great food.Grear service
Best fried chicken and sweet potato casserole!!!
Good small country place. Nice family atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Overall good food and good time.
Excellent food and great service. Large portions.
Home cooked food in a country style restaurant. The food is wonderful. We have famous fried chicken all and the time and frequently. Every meal they offer is outstanding. Beef Tips and Rice, Meatloaf, and other main offerings. Order your meat with 2 or 3 sides and enjoy everything from fried green tomatoes to ocra to variations on potatoes. Always a different menu with daily specials.
Always get a lot of good food.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent food. We ate lunch and I ordered salmon croquets, yams, beans, and turnips. My wife had pork chops on dressing, mac and cheese, slaw, and squash. The portions were very (very) generous, very tasty, and served within a few minutes of ordering. Loved the bread also! The waitress came over several times to check on us (bringing more tea, honey, napkins). We ate well and still carried out enough for dinner tonight. Great value (free tea for eat in customers) . All the food was excellent. We will eat here again!
Rude waiters, food was good. Need better selection though.
Down home cooking done to perfection. If you haven't tried the fried chicken, you haven't had some of the best fried chicken in the south! Food and service are top notch. You can eat lunch and be back in an hour! Portions run big, too.
I usually enjoy my time here but today was different. My mom and I were seated before at least 4 families. They all got their food before us with no explanation. The waitress didn't attempt to explain what the hold up was. Oh and by the way we are black and all the others were white. Now I'm not trying to pull the race card but it was too obvious today. To add to it all the meatloaf was awful!
Great country cooking. Great service. Good old fashioned restaurant. Highly recommend
Martin's is tops in the "meat & 3" category. Food is delicious--service is fast & friendly. Can't beat the price for the amount of food served. Don't miss lunch at Martin's--come hungry & come early or risk waiting for a table, especially near the holidays!!
I was visiting in Montgomery, and family decided this is where we would eat. We arrived at 1PM, and, as is usual for Martin's, business was booming. It was about 10 minutes before our party of 6 was seated. Martin's is a Montgomery institution. I have been eating here since the 1950s. The restaurant has been around even longer than I have! That said, the choice of main dish changes daily. On Friday, the choices are country fried steak w/brown gravy, fried catfish, smothered fried chicken on rice, Martin's famous fried chicken, or a fried chicken chef's salad. For "meat and 3", that's only $10 including tax! Everyone at the table besides me had fried chicken. I don't eat chicken so I chose the country fried steak with brown gravy, turnip greens, steamed cabbage, and green beans. Everyone at the table raved about the chicken! On the other hand, I was total unimpressed by the country fried steak. In my mind "country friend steak" translated to the "chicken fried steak" we routinely eat in Texas. It wasn't. It was simply a breaded smothered steak. Okay, but not outstanding by any means. The vegetables, on the other hand, were absolutely outstanding, and I wished in retrospect that I had chose the 4-vegetable plate. Dessert at Martin's is something not to be missed. The meringue pies probably stand about 6 inches tall. Again the rest of the party chose either chocolate and/or coconut meringue pies, raved about them and had to get "to-go" boxes because the pieces were so big. I opted for the sweet potatoe pie. I didn't need a to-go box...it was too good to not eat it all in one sitting. Excellent! All in all, a very enjoyable meal with family in a down-home southern restaurant. The staff was friendly as could be, just as they have always been in the past.
Best fried Chicken! Homestyle cooking. Delicious sweet tea! Love coming here when I'm home.
The Country Fried Steak is amazing!
I save five stars to truly awesome places. Martin's is a great place for a lunch. The food is delicious southern fare and the people are really hospitable!
excellent as always.
Very awesome restaurant with some down home cooking. Everyone is always polite and courteous. Customer service is spot-on. Food is always fast hot and delicious. Get there early and ask for the pulley bone chicken. Be sure to try the honey if they have on the table with your cornbread. I can never finish all my food they serve nice portions.
Great southern food. Fried chicken doesn't get any better and the homemade pie is in a league of its own.
Southern home cooking in a restaurant. If they are busy, it's worth the wait. I've eaten here all my life. They are known for fried chicken and cornbread, but trust me when I tell you, EVERYTHING is good.
Really great food. Friendly service.
I travelled 1000 miles from North to South and after searching for good ol' southern meat and threes I fell on Martins. This place was perfectly full, very cozy, and even though I dined alone I still got 5 Star treatment with fresh and hot food. Martins Famous chicken is Famous in my book!
I ordered their famous fried chicken it was delicious
Great food at a fair price ... Always great food and great service!
One of the best M3's around. You won't leave hungry because the portions are quit generous.
Good southern meat and three.
The food is good!
Food always good. Chicken is great. On Wednesday is beef tips and rice, my favorite. Lunch menu is different Monday thru Friday. Including your drink the lunch price is ten dollars even and worth every dime. And the fresh homemade pies are awesome. Too huge to eat the whole piece in one sitting.
The veggies and meats are very good and the cornbread muffins are the world's best!
Very home like decor with southern charm . Their chicken is why u come but they dressing changes your life. Busy place but worth it.
Great service, fried chicken was amazing and the portion are huge and the sweet tea is a must.
Great southern food. I went on Sunday after church and the place was packed. Plan on a wait, but plan on being happy you waited.
Ughhh... just ok.
Really great food and great for budget. You get a lot for a low price. The staff is very casual with you and is a very good iconic southern restaurant.
Fried Chicken was delicious. Rutabagas were very hard Enjoyed my meal alots
We went to Martins for their early. biir special and it was terrific. All the tapas are half price and the martnis as well. they have. a great variety of martinis and tapas.. We had lamb chops, crab cakes, tuna tataki, scalllops, salad, and they were all delicious. we sat indoors but they also have an outdoor garden area. our waitress was helpful. it was the best early bird experience we had on this. trip to key west
Fried chicken! And great sides with friendly, fast service. Daily meals listed outside and on the menu and homemade pies. Your glass will not go empty and you will not run out of rolls or cornbread. The place was packed and takeout orders were going out the door constantly. Fried Chicken and smiling friendly waitresses! This is a no frills restaurant in a strip mall that has been around many, many years. Staff is very friendly. They have a good menu. Known for their fried chicken. The chicken is excellent. The fried chicken salad was good as well. Portions are large but the three sides, while good we’re just average.
The food was great and the customer service was wonderful. They made you feel at home....
Me and my family was passing through and stopped here because of the reviews. I was not disappointed. The food was good and the service was wonderful. The waiter was very polite and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. And everyone in my family was greatly satisfied. My mom enjoyed her fried flounder fish. I love how they give you a meat and 3 sides with each meal. Old restaurant with good food and service.
Martin's was recommended by a very enthusiastic friend. It exceeded even his description!
Driest turkey & blandest dressing ever-NO salt, seasoning or herbs. The gravy may as well have been brown water. Lied about mashed potatoes being homemade unless you count adding water to powder as real cooking. 6 of 8 veg sides had meat in them-pork, of course-& the cornbread was even dry! To add insult to injury the woman at the counter rushed to ring me up while I was still ordering with the waitress...She was mid-ring by the time I had a chance to ask about a mil discount & without skipping a beat continued to total me up with the reply "We do, but you should've asked for it before I rang you up."!!
Awesome food, waitresses and plenty of food to take home with you for supper!
Simply one of the best restaurant in Montgomery Alabama. The food, the staff, it don't get no better. It doesn't matter if you order fried chicken or smothered pork chops or green beans or rice!! It's going to be some of the best food you've ever had.
Great fried chicken. Lots of food. Pretty crowded Sunday morning but worth it.
Great food and plenty of it. Always busy at lunch.
Good Food nothing Special. Service was great and kindly. A little bit noisy so you had issues to conversate. But just so you can visit it!
Took a while to get our food, but delicious as always. Corn muffins are impossible to beat. Go for the turnip greens and pineapple casserole.
Ordered pork ribs, slaw, Turnips, jello, liver and onions and sweet potato casserole.so much food and so delicious ☺
The chicken was good to me. I should have gotten two thighs! The catfish was fresh but my son was not used to eating it that way. Lol! Sweet home Alabama!
One word... YUMMY! We arrived around 11:30 and they were slammed but we we're seated promptly and our server was nice and attentive.
The turkey and cornbread dressing tasted like my Mama's. The candied yams were nicely seasoned with a bit of clove. The mashed potatoes and gravy were yummy. The corn bread was perfect. The iced tea came with abundant lemon wedges and the service was friendly and prompt. The spiced apples were quite good. What's not to love?
I always go for lunch on Mondays or Fridays. Those are the days that they have there wonderful, amazing, catfish fillet.
I'm sure it used to. Be a nice ace to eat but now it's really dirty inside, my order was wrong and the food was not good
The food was good and the service was fast.. great lunch stop
Love the sweet potato pie.
Great food and great service!
Great comfort food in awesome service
Great food! down home cooking every fiendly people.
Chicken was fried TOO much! Almost burned. Service wasn't that great either
