The chicken was good, but the wings are far too big! Mac n cheese was good and the coleslaw not so much. I ordered the banana pudding and by the time I noticed I didn't have it.. I was headed home and we were too far to go back for it. Over all the chicken [southern] was pretty good. The reason I gave them 3 stars is.. 1.chicken wings are too big. 2.Coleslaw wasn't tasty at all. 3.Forgot my banana pudding!

Probably the best chicken in town. Careful if you decide in spicy, they don't mess around so go easy. If you get tenders and want to challenge yourself, get three, one each hot, damn hot and shut the cluck up!

We were in town visiting family and they suggested we try this place for lunch. The line to order was back to the door but it moved very fast and our cashier was exceptionally friendly. The inside seating area was packed and pretty loud so we sat outside. The food was very good. Most of our group had chicken tenders with mild spice. I tried the white meat with hot. I did not think the spice was overpowering and the chicken was great. We don't get to Birmingham often, but we will put Hattie B's on our list for return visits.

Great food! My husband had the chicken sandwich and I had the strips. The pimiento Mac and cheese and the other sides are great the French fries are standard good French fries. The lemonade and sweet tea are also really good. Overall great experience

Fried chicken is one of my favorite meals, but I never knew about the Nashville style of serving the dish until a few years ago. I knew I needed to give this place a try for my introduction to the dish based on the buzz around town, and I was not disappointed. I have been here a couple times and have gotten the breast marinated in one of the hot sauces. I have tried the small plate in hot (a little too mild for me), damn hot (now we're talking) and shut the cluck up (no clucking around, this will cluck up your mouth, so proceed with clucking caution). Damn hot for me is the sweet spot between very spicy and uncomfortably grabbing too many refills, so that is the level I recommend. The bread it is served upon is soaks up the leftover flavor of the sauce and is great with the pickles to chase the chicken. The sides are also impressive, especially the pimento mac n cheese, so order whatever feels right for you on that day.

Hattie B's is part of a chain, and it feels a little bit like a chain restaurant. They sell t shirts and such. The service here in Birmingham has always been good and the atmosphere is decent. Considering how busy they always are, they seem to be very efficient. Now, where they don't feel like a chain is the chicken. It's incredibly delicious. It's moist and tender, and has any level of heat you could desire. Beverages and sides are pretty basic, but their sides are good. The pimento mac & cheese is great. I usually go with medium heat on my sandwich, but sometimes hot. The "damn hot" is too hot for me and I've not ever, nor will I, try the "Shut the cluck up" - their highest tier of heat. It's a great place to eat. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It gets a little noisy inside at times when it's crowded. I don't feel like it's expensive at all. I often order the food delivered through a separate delivery service.

Hattie B's is my most eaten at restaurant in Birmingham. I prefer their chicken over Eugene's, but what really cements them as the winner is their side selection. "Large dark Hot, with pimento mac & cheese, greens, and an extra side of the skin-on potato salad", all the way.

This was my first time at Hattie B's and I throughly enjoyed it! The fried chicken was fried to perfection... Not dry on the inside, and the perfect amount of batter and crisp on the outside. I had the jumbo fingers, both medium and hot heat. I could not do the hot, but the medium was perfect for me! My husband liked the hot better, but then he also likes pretty spicy things. Everyone there was friendly and helpful! We will definitely be back!

They have the most tender and crispy fried chicken it is delicous. Then to make it more delicous they add sweet waffles to the mix. Mmmmmm this place is must try. Only downfall is the side fruit, 3 tiny baby pieces not even a side but more like a sample if that. So skip the fruit and dig into the french fries it is worth it.

You can get fried, grilled, on the bone or tenders and up to five levels of hot added on. The sides are great, but my favorites are the potato salad and greens. On Sunday they offer chicken and waffles for a hard to beat brunch.

Really enjoyed this place on my recent trip to Birmingham. There was a pretty long wait at lunch on a weekday, but the food was fantastic and worth the wait. Generous portions too. I'm still glad I got the banana pudding after because it was so good.

I like this place a lot. It was my first and second experience with hot chicken, and I was not disappointed. It isn't the usual sort of restaurant I go to because it has an almost fast food sort of feel. That said, I'm glad I tried it. I got medium heat chicken tenders both times with mac 'n cheese and fries. If I go again I may just get that same meal. Heads up, the heat is more than expected for the labels. I got medium and was plenty satisfied with the amount of spice. I normally go hot at restaurants.

Great food, friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere. The prices aren't extravagant and the vibe is very modern but warm. The menu is easy to navigate and all the chicken is delicious. I got the large white and for 12.50 you get two large chicken breasts and two wings with two sides. Great value. The sides are varied, but the Mac n cheese, seasoned French fries, and collard greens are my favorites. The black eyed pea salad is so-so according to the friend I was eating with. Give the strawberry hard cider a try if you'd like a tasty adult drink in the afternoon to keep you cool. The staff is great and not afraid to give you a helpful recommendation if you have any trouble choosing. Would definitely go again.

Had lunch on Saturday afternoon. A bit crowded but ordering at counter was smooth. A bit picky on our order and they never batted an eye. Service is always top notch and attentive. Chicken arrives straight out of the fryer and is very hot regardless of what spice level you pick. Hot is really hot and beyond that you better be ready. Best fried chicken in town!It was my first time at this restaurant and I’ll surely be back! They’ve taken fried chicken to a whole new level. With varying degrees of ‘heat’, you can get it exactly like you want. Be careful- when they say hot, they mean it. They have a strong selection of sides, good pricing and service. If you haven’t already, be sure to give them a try.

Very very good food. A lot of food for your money. This place was very busy at 11:25 when we got there. Had to wait a bit before we got our food, but the food was very fresh, cooked to order. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The parking is limited, you might have to walk a little ways to get there, but trust me it is worth it. Very trendy, little on the louder side, place looks great and the atmosphere is great too. This was my first time, but my wife has been several times and she and her co-workers really enjoy it every time they go. I will be back and I highly recommend eating here!

Hot chicken and fries make for a great comfort meal. The place is always clean even though it gets busy during lunch and the afternoon. The cooks do an amazing job frying chicken, as it is always cooked perfectly. The sweet tea and lemonade are so good, you will never drink sodas there. I love their food when they get my order right, the right person is cooking, and when I can get through to make an order....it's hit or miss. They did wonderful with giving us a credit and refunding us for an incorrect order but we can never get through to use the credit smh. Currently I've called about 7 times because the credit is only for dine in or call in and they don't give you the option to pay in store if you order online. It's a major headache right now but the food is good. *insert shrug*

Best chicken tenders in Birmingham & they don't mess around about the spice levels. This is not the kind of place you go to where you have to order the hottest option to get any spice. I recently learned that they're even cheaper than your typical chain on non-meal options. Ordered a 3 piece tender with no sides, paid a little over $6, and got massive tenders with bread and a bit of pickle. More than enough for lunch @ a price cheaper than most places downtown.

The food is good New Orleans style traditional dishes and the atmosphere reminds me of that wonderful city. Food is served quickly, the portions are generous, the tastes are pretty authentic, and the price is reasonable. I make it my place to get my Louisiana fix for lunch. Good variety of food. Fantastic Hot chicken which hits the spot every single time!! I always get the "Hot" flavored dark meat with Mac & Cheese and Cole Slaw on the side and it is the real deal! Chicken is moist and juicy not over cooked and the spicy level is perfect. It's got that heat that makes your mouth just burn a little and nose water but has the like good heat.

Though not the best Nashville hot chicken I have ever had - this is the best in Birmingham. The restaurant is super clean and well run. The food is delicious but make sure to check the heat levels before you order. I like the “hot” variety and this is quite hot - too hot for most people. The things is - there are two more heat levels beyond that! All the sides are really good - try the greens as well as the black-eyed peas. Very limited vegetarian options but that is kind of expected ;-). Enjoy!

I am absolutely satisfied with Hattie B’s Hot Chicken! It has to be one of the best fried chicken spots I’ve tried in Alabama so far. They have a wide variety of chicken cuts with a reasonable serving of side choices to choose from. Classic drinks and desserts to have with your meals and I can honestly understand why the wait time to order your food can take a while because it is WORTH it! If you haven’t had the opportunity to try this place, I highly suggest you do because Hottie B’s will not fail your taste expectations.

Amazing hot chicken. This place is great. One of my favorite things about Hattie B’s is how generous they are with the portions. They are huge! They also aren’t stingy when it comes to sauces, which depending on which heat you get, you might be needing that extra side of ranch. I love the fries and the Mac and cheese as well, however, I always find that the Mac and cheese sits really heavy after all the chicken and fries.

Amazing hot chicken! They have spice levels to suit everyone (even non-spicy) and the chicken is fried perfectly. The choice of white, dark, or strip meat also brings in more customization. I had baked beans (really great flavor and a bit spicy) and coleslaw (a bit peppery but mixed perfectly) for sides, both of which I enjoyed and would order again. They have a pretty decent beer selection and do offer dessert choices, though I did not try any on my visit. Overall really great food and a nice experience, will definitely be going to Hattie B's again!

Honest to goodness Nashville hot chicken in Alabama! There can be a long line but it moves fast and it's well worth the wait. Fried chicken is available in several hotness levels to please all palettes. The sides are good too. A real treat any time I find myself in Nashville, and now Birmingham!

This was my first time visiting any of the Hattie B's locations. The family and I were passing through and decided to give them a try. The location is nice. The food was pretty good. We tried the country style, hot, and shut the cluck up flavors. The overall flavor was pretty good. We were expecting more heat from the shut the cluck up but it was still pretty tasty. I should say we like spicy food, so if you have a low tolerance that might not be what you want to do with your life.

A little pricey, but that's because the tenders are huge. The 3 tender plate comes with 2 sides, and is much larger than most chicken places. They offer a southern style tender if you're not into heat, and mild if you want a small kick. Mild and medium are my two favorites, and I'll definitely be back for more.

Damn good hot chicken. The portion for the wings plate is hugeee so best of luck polishing it off. For me hot was the perfect level of heat but you can go hotter or milder if you prefer. There are a few beers on tap to wash your meal down with including some from local breweries.

Black eyed pea salad is good, it's served cold because it's a salad, so be aware. Got the medium heat and was just right. I would recommend hot or up if you like it really hot though.

OMGOODNESS, I was so excited when I saw they have a Birmingham location, we first tried Hattie B's when we were traveling in Nashville and this one is just as good! The crust is so crispy but yet light, the medium is just right for me and the pimento mac n cheese is incredible (and I'm not a huge fan of mac n cheese) the patio was very nice and thankfully pet friendly and you couldn't ask for a better staff. We will make the 105 mile trip back, well worth it!

Hattie B's! I honestly have NO words for how great the fried chicken was and how great the service was. The young lady working the register was patient and very clear in explaining the menu. I'm in the Dallas Texas area and I am honestly planning on driving back to Birmingham just to eat at Hattie B's. Thank you!

Normally Hattie B's is a five star meal, but my last visit left me underwhelmed. Ordered the tenders, medium heat. The heat levels have never been particularly consistent, but normally they err on the hotter side. Was left disappointed with very little heat this time. I'm very rarely impressed by the beer on tap, usually lighter session ales (though that's not the reason I go here, so a better selection would just be a bonus.)

First time eating at any location. Been wanting to try for a long time and finally did. It didnt disappoint at all. I got the Tenders Medium, fries, Pimento Mac and Cheese, and Sweet Tea. Food was hot and fresh. Medium heat had an ideal amount of heat. I want to try Hot next time. Great staff. Great atmosphere. Clean facility. Just loved the food.

Good God this chicken is great! Sides delicious too! If you don't like spicy order the southern chicken but boy your missing out on some good spicy chicken if you do!

Apparently this place usually has lines out the door. If you wanting to avoid that i would suggest heading there for lunch around 130 on Wednesday's. No wait and quick service! The chicken was good, I got the medium and it was just right for me. My friends got the hottest and after all the sweating, sniffling, and tears they still said it was great! :)

I love their tender strips and pimento macaroni and cheese. The greens I had wasn't the best I've ever had. But they were okay. Other than that the set up is nice and spacious

My wife and I stopped in for the first time in our way to FL. Having never been to a Hattie B's before we really didn't know what to expect. Needless to say we were impressed. The food was very good but it was the staff that made it. Everyone we talked to was very polite and friendly. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

Came here as a recommendation from a friend. ordered dark meat chicken spicy and it was delicious. Customer service was really good as well, and a really nice atmosphere. If I'm ever back in the area I'll definitely come back.

Well, I went here at the recommendation of a native to the area. I wasn't that thrilled with the dining experience. I will say the Mac n cheese was phenomenal! I'll skip commenting on my other food items. Overall, it's great for the locals. Not so much if you're not familiar with the food.
