The real deal! One of the few remaining authentic Juke joints in America! A true National Treasure! Mr. Gip is the Gandhi of the Blues, a truly good man who loves his music. If you claim to love the blues, don't miss this place! It's been in operation for over 60 years, but Mr. Gip is 96 years old, so don't wait too long! It's in a sketchy neighborhood, but in my many visits I've never had a bit of trouble, just be aware it's only open on Saturday nights & then the house is a Rockin'!

Sober as a judge and prayer felt closer to God then any church I have ever been to. Am so grateful to have experienced this place. Everything is true. Great people and great music. Thank you Gip.

Have had this place on a bucket list of things to do, now I'm left with only being able to come tonight or never at all since its slated to close forever after today. Hope to not be alone and to share in the experience, but idk anyone who is a blues aficionado irl. I'm sure its everything and more that I could hope for. Absolutely hate that a lifetime legacy could be cut short in the name of preservation of what was, but idk if it would be worth keeping open as a museum. I would hope to share a place such as this with people I love but I'm so far from those I could wish to be close to. Update to come.

Love my weekday visits with Mr Gip. Update August 11 2019 Mr Gipson does not host his backyard party's any longer. He is in a nursing home in Bessemer. Sadly. An end to the legacy that can never be duplicated. Scores of his fans from around the globe are praying for him.

A Mecca for Blues lovers. On the last visit Gip said to my wife and I, "I'm going to miss you when I'm gone." Go now, don't put it off.

This is a cool hangout place with much diversity and great music.

Probably the last juke joint left. This place is BYOB. You don't know what to expect the first time you go, but it is definitely an experience you don't easily forget.

Neat place and Mr. Gip is an enjoyment to listen to. Liked the atmosphere and music. $10 cover is a but much when there's not enough covered space when it rains. Therefore, all the outside area is soaking wet.

deborah simpkins

Had a great time!!! So fun and love Gip

Kevin Hodges

This is a must and worth the drive from anywhere. Look up the history on YouTube and other web media before you go. It will make you appreciate MR. Gips place even more. It is BYOB

Probably the last true juke joint in the Birmingham area. Gip is a Blues institution and so is his place. This place is not for kids or the easily offended. BYOB, listen to great music, dance, absorb the atmosphere, and make memories.

Can't keep you down Mr Gip

Oh how to describe Gips? Cool. Where can you go on a Saturday night and spend 10 bucks and listen to 5 hours of entertainment? It may not be in the best area but I didnt notice. All walks of life were there. I hope before I head back north (Michigan) that I can go back. B.T.W its B.Y.O.B and food starts around 8. Loved it.

Could not be happier we braved a torrential downpour (almost turned around and left) to see this for ourselves. Hands down, made our trip to Birmingham. Best suggestion our Birmingham native friend could have given us, and now we spread the word as well!

Fon Ballard

I had a awesome time. I was skeptical at first. But I was pleasantly surprised. It was a little crowded but everyone was friendly. What was surprising ,Gips dog wonders around through the crowd. It is worth a visit to Gips place.

Henry Gip Gipson

This is my property. I've never agreed for anyone to use my property, for monetary gain. They are using photos of me as if I'm there. Many people know what the truth is. My friends have to sneak to see me. I've asked them to keep praying and tell the truth. God bless you.

Peter O'Hare

Despite the fact that Mr. Gip is now 99 and in a serious health condition Gip's place is still OPEN every Saturday! He is no longer able to come to the place that he started back in 1952 and all of us are keeping Gip in our prayers. His family is now managing the booking of live music there and the countless fans and musicians are helping to keep Gip's Place alive. Keeping his legacy alive is definitely what Gip wants. Come get your dose of hand clapping, knee-slapping, hip-shaking, soul moving Blues each and every Saturday night at Gip’s Place aka Gips Juke Joint

nice area to hang out and see some good artists.

One of the oldest juke joints in America. Unique atmosphere. This place has drawn blues lovers and musicians since 1952, when bluesman and gravedigger Henry “Gip” Gipson opened the doors of his backyard shack so he and his friends would have a place to enjoy and play music. They have blues bands every Saturday night. It is a BYOB place, you can bring your own food.

Britton Evanochko

Awesome music! BYOB and food but they do grill meat and always accept donations. Also a "donation" to get in but no matter the price it's worth every cent! Go once and you'll want to go back again!

Erin London

You just have to experience it. Reading about it doesn't do justice.

Dennis Sheffield

Got to go see Gip now. He is 98 and still sings a few songs. $10 to get in, free parking, safe environment. Good blues/rock house band. BYOB. nice place to go every Saturday night at 8pm

Melinda clum

Wonderful music
