REVIEWS OF FIVE Birmingham IN Alabama

The entire birthday party was sick afterwards. I'm not sure if it was the drinks or the food

Lance Adams

Very good food.

Good Food Period!

Had not visited here in a couple years. Our previous two visits were for lunch on a Saturday and we loved it. This time we stopped in for Sunday brunch. Menu showed a pork chop with biscuit, gravy a drink and a couple other items. We saw food being served to others and it seemed anything but brunch and more like a meal at Jacks but with a hefty price tag. I am 60 years old and may be set in my ways, but a brunch should be light and simple. Just felt like they were trying too hard to be different. We left as the menu did not appeal to us and the price did not match what was being served.

Nicolette Hayes

Each and every time I visit it’s welcoming, clean, great food and the restrooms are ALWAYS clean too! The entire staff from the management, very skilled brunch bartenders, servers and even the kitchen staff are amazing! Everyone has a team player attitude, works with a sense of urgency, professionalism, care and attention to detail. I absolutely love the chicken and waffles or pork chop biscuit meal. 8yrs later...I’m still loving it!

Vaneishia Carpenter

Had a great time here for Sunday brunch! The food was great the drinks were great and the service was awesome. We even had great company around us on the patio area where we decided to have brunch. Even with only five choices it wasn't that easy lol!

Mark Cruver

Super cool spot to enjoy a great dinner! With an assortment of chandeliers and old-time window hanging from the ceiling, the mood is just right. The old oak clad bar reminds one of the pubs of yesteryear. Shrimp are big and fresh and the pork chops are tasty.

Michael Mitchell

Excellent food and drinks. Eat here, you know you wanna.

Sarah Castleberry

Great service, wonderful food and atmosphere! My husband loves the spicy margarita at brunch!

Avonlea hartmann

Loved my meal and cocktails. Felt the staff was a little judgy. Questions were looked down on..but the food was so good the bored bartender couldn't have ruined it.

Lindsey Gilbert

I have only been to FIVE for Sunday brunch, but couldn't be happier with my experiences there - It is a family favorite. We have collectively had all five items on the brunch menu and can't choose one favorite. The beignets appetizer is a must, though. Live music starts at 11 on Sundays - Highly recommend!

Chris Jacobson

Great brunch and live jazz band on Sunday. Food was great and make your own Bloodymary stand was a nice touch. Only complaint was it took forever for our order. We waited about an hour and saw tables get served out of order. Otherwise it was a nice brunch experience.

Jasmine Daisenae

Went there Sunday with my family and I guess because we are black the waitress and manager treated us beyond trash. The manager was rude and racist and the waitress reflected the same attitude. She literally left our bill and cards on the table instead of handing them back and she walked of swiftly without saying anything. Used to be a regular, no longer will I spend money in that establishment.

Jacob Bundren

We came for a later brunch around 1 on a Sunday and there was no wait. It was raining though. We enjoyed ourselves! The food was slightly disappointing based on the reviews that I’d read. Maybe I’d just pumped myself up more than I should have. Everything was just a little bit on the cool side. The atmosphere and staff were incredible. Our waitress was very helpful in helping us choose dishes. There was a three piece band playing in the corner that consisted of tuba, banjo, and trumpet. It was a really fun combination to have playing behind the meal.

Amata Hinkle

Just too noisy for me. Cant hear a person next to you. Also the benets were chewy hard things definitely NOT actual benets. I had chicken and waffles. The waffle was ok (basic hotel waffle with fancy syrup and few walnuts) but the fried chicken was dry and tasteless. Definitely not worth the money. If you are into live music noisy atmospheres it may be your thing. Apparently the alcoholic drinks were good according to friends. I do agree the bathrooms are very clean.

Albert Coltrane

Limited menu with very good food and friendly service.

Drew Francis

Not bad

Larry Daugherty

Great casual resturant, limited menu (5).

william tell

The food was exceptional and the staff was very friendly.

Gladys Andrews

Good food and friendly people. Relaxing atmosphere. Open terrace and semi open indoors. Service is knowledgeable about all of the 5 items that they are noted for. That's why it is called Five. I will go back again and again. There are other items offered Thursday through Sunday that I plan to try, especially Annies fried chicken and bahamian mac and cheese that is served only on Sundays

Kalyn Janz

Great food, drinks, and atmosphere. Plus a Bloody Mary bar!

Tony Staggs

Absolutely amazing food....the atmosphere is as well! The service is perfect and not at all invasive. To top it off, 1% of their sales go to feeding the hungry!

Christy Simmons

Don't bother with Five! 8pm on a Sunday and you are out of two of the 5 meals you serve! And I wasn't here for the festival! Only the food! No thank you I will turn down the other 3 items and eat somewhere else. What is worse is I use to eat here at LEAST one day a week out of the 10yrs I lived here. Disappointed!

Christian S

Brunch is excellent. Avacado toast is not worth it, but everything else is good

RobeBob c

Friendly servers and great food. I came by myself and left feeling like I'd made friends. Good people with great food/drink never fails

Kris Gagge

Great place. Bartenders were wondering spend a good few hours there

Mike Laird

Great music. Shrimp and grits was amazing.

Jackie Peeples

was good but martini is over priced

S Smith

I liked it, cheap mimosas but other options were pretty high. Food could use more flavor and hashbrowns were like waffle house underdone wth

TresDeHope W

Birmingham is really stepping up with amazing foodie joints and this is one of them. Small but consistently good menu items. The burger is so good!

Corinna Bass

Beautiful Location on the corner of the block in Lakeview, 5 is decorated so beautifully, it is my go to for pics!! Mirrors, Chandeliers, Art it is all so beautiful!!! The bar is fully stocked and the food is delicious! Kinda packed at night, but well worth a week night dinner!

Shaina Van Ness

My favorite restaurant in Birmingham! The paneed chicken and shrimp appetizers are so good! The ambiance is great and I like sitting outside. They have a "meals on wheels" type thing where they take food to the homeless in their food truck every day. A portion of your check goes to it and I think thats great!

Andrew Dorris

Spot on service. Delicious food. You really only need the five options. Parking isn't abundant, but with everything else, you won't think twice about the parking.

Rachel Holt

We went for Sunday Brunch. The atmosphere is cool (live brand), the server was very nice and attentive. We had the chicken and waffles. It was pretty good but nothing I'd rush back to.

Jorge Sanchez

Excellent service, food was delicious and very pleasant environment, I strongly recommend this place.

David Nazworth

Lovely southern charm. Fatty but tasty food. Love the five menu items for everything. Really makes deciding so easy and painless.

Jathan a

Should be better accommodating on Sunday

Charbett Cauthen

FIve of us came for dinner at 6:40 on a Sunday. The place was not at all busy, and we were seated without a wait at a large booth...a booth that backed up to another booth, at which sat the Loudest People In The World. You couldn't hear thunder in there. Bare floors, bare ceiling, lots of glass -- this stuff just magnifies noise. Anyway, we got menus. Choose from five entrees (hence the name), and assorted sandwiches, and a few starters. We ordered a bunch of fried shrimp plates and I had the seared scallops. We wanted salads, and inquired about dressings. There is but one -- creamy vinaigrette. Ew. No options. So...naked salad ordered. And we asked for a fried green tomato starter. We settled in to wait. So...food arrived. The fried green tomatoes? My wife was quite unimpressed. Others? Shrugs. Then the entrees came: the shrimp plates got good reviews. Only problem was no cocktail sauce. They ran out. Gosh. Said they were out of horseradish. Evidently, no horseradish is available at any grocery in metro Birmingham on Sunday. Ridiculous. But let me tell you about my scallops. Were they good? They were perfectly okay. And the succotash and field peas the scallops were served with perfectly okay. But the thing about the scallops is that there were three of them. Three. as in 3. And not very large. For $28. That, dear hearts, is pretty close to theft. And I got a salad. It was rough field greens, and a single cherry tomato cut in half, topped with crumbled feta cheese. Again, unimpressive. Overall? It was loud, with overpriced, and decidedly mundane food. Fried shrimp was 20% of the entrees, yet they were out of cocktail sauce. For $29, you get 3 small scallops. There is one salad dressing. My question is this -- how do folks rate this as 4 and 5 stars? I can quickly show you 150 better places to eat in Birmingham -- a dozen or more within a block of this place. Let me suggest that you try one of those instead.

Mindy Bigbee

Nice bartender, Ethan. Wasn't impressed with the burger, nothing special at all. Chicken appetizer was very good.

Shanika Palm

Great brunch menu and excellent service. Great band and live music.

Brice Jackson

My wife & I loved our experience there! Lots of variety from a simple menu! Great service. Good southern friendly atmosphere.

Joe Logan

Good food and service very stingy with the wine at 9 dollars a glass and about 3oz???

A. P. Slay

Really cool brunch spot. Having a pared down menu makes it easy to choose. They have $12 mimosa pitchers, but they're just okay. The jalepeno margarita was enjoyable. A small draft selection. I can appreciate the simplicity - but everything should be flawless. The beignets were a nice treat, but I'm one of those "they better be better than Cafe Du Monde" people. But the addition of the apple was a nice treat. Their beignets are more dense & not melt in your mouth fluffy. The ambiance was nice & service was absolutely lovely. I will be back.

Larry Waters

Good food, active and mixed dress atmosphere.

Carey Culpepper

Good breakfast burrito and crabcake benedict. Fun atmosphere with dixieland band.

Crystal Thierry

Brunch is great with those mimosa pitchers

LaRita Jacobs

Food was great also a must try is the strawberry lemonade drink

Tatyana Sousa

Good for a breakfast, the orange juice is made on time for you... very cozy environment .

lori summerville

Their brunch is amazing, and the Mimosas are delicious!

Layla Torres

Food is okay, but I was just baffled that they charged me for a refill of orange juice. The glass was tiny. TINY. I asked for more and they charged me another 5 bucks (didnt know it til I got my bill). They dont charge you for refills on anything else but the orange juice and this is NOT mentioned on the menu. They wouldnt take the extra 5 off as a courtesy either. They just said it is what it is. So this is sort of just a warning if you plan to get orange juice there and want more than just a couple sips. You'll pay ten bucks for it. Havent been back since just bc of the way they handled the situation and acted all boujee about it.

Jacqui Sweet

Extremely slow service, out of items, too noisy.

Honey

Place is fantastic! Very interesting decor. Food outstanding. Service was also. Hope to go back someday.

Erin LynnO

I was REALLY looking forward to finally going here... but I don't know if it was just the night & the regular chef had the flu, etc. - but it was highly disappointing. Nothing I couldn't have done EVEN BETTER for a LOT cheaper at home :/ Won't be going back! The service was awful too btw. We still tipped only 15% because that means you effed up in our books when we tip that low percentage but honestly they didn't even deserve that much. Meh.

Mike Breaux

Roy, the bartender was great. Makes great drinks and caters to your tastes.nice atmosphere and good food.

Sherry Davis

Their food is good however the green salad is great with each meal

Randy Latner

This is always a go to for us when we come for the ARC stories at the Avon theater. We found parking alongside 7th Avenue and the walk wasn't bad. The ribeye was delicious as well as the paneed chicken. We will definitely be back.

Alyse Hicks

Love the vibe of the restaurant! And the food is great!

April Mackfit

Brunch was amazing, live music, had chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, and mimosas! I will be back for brunch.

Carestin Cullman

Everything we had there was incredible! Will not disappoint!

Zenobia Aqeel

Service and food was awesome!

Tina Sumpter

Don't be fooled by the small menu. The simplicity is paired with quality. Everything we ordered was exquisite.

Elizabeth Novick

We had lunch here. The menu is fun. The food was great. Really interesting atmosphere.

Alex Ream

Stopped by on Wednesday, July 3rd for dinner. Enjoyed the baked avocado appetizer and Wednesday's special, house-made lasagna! The sauce was delicious. I plan to come back again for more. Kenzie did an excellent job serving our table!

Rusty Sears

Great atmosphere. Great food. Great service. You have to try the pineapple jalapeno margarita. It's the best anywhere.

Ronnie and Deanna Morgan

The bartender, Roy, is phenomenal!

Scott Jacobs

Food was about the same as the Five in Knoxville, so better than average fare but nothing amazing. Really liked the server, which was much better than my overall service experience in Birmingham. It made me realize a trend... Are white people in Birmingham just generally unpleasant? (I'm white btw)

Teresa Mitchell

Sadly, it was mediocre food & mediocre service.

justice seeker

My mom and i had brunch here this weekend. The food was amazing along with the service. Our waitress Chelsea was fantastic. She helped us with the menu and what was available. She was so attentive to us and made it a great experience. Thanks Five for and great meal and thank you Chelsea for outstanding service.

Sam Newman Voss

A bit pricey for some but the crabcakes Benedict was to die for! Also build you own bloody Mary bar and great decor

Michael Hermeston

Great atmosphere, homie feeling, awesome live music, good food, even better mimosas.

Fred931v2 .

It isn't often that I go to a restaurant and everything just works well. The vibe from the decor and lighting, the quality of the food, the service was all great. I confused my Mahi for snapper (which IMO is a good thing), and the bartender was more than happy to try a new-to-him cocktail. Definitely bringing friends and dates back in the future.

Pamela McEachern

Great food and service, cocktails are awesome. I loved the whole evening. All of our group had a wonderful meal and will be back soon!

The food was amazing. Calamari was unique with red and green bell peppers , amazing flavor. The banana bread pudding is something I'll crave forever. French fries were fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. I wish I could take this place home with me! Not to forget to mention the fresh blackberries. I haven't had blackberries so firm, sweet and fresh since I was a small girl in my grandmothers garden. 5 stars. Superb.

Dave Vensel

Went for Sunday brunch. The place is eclectic and funky. Server, Jessie, was very attentive and knew the menu and apps/entrees/drinks very well. We had the beignets as an app, not NOLA style, but really good. I had the breakfast burrito and loved it, and my wife had the quiche and also loved it. Very pleasant experience, great service, top shelf food. This is my new brunch place for sure. Try it.

Cynthia Galletta

The waite was long but worth it the food was delicious

jordan thompson

The staff is always generous and friendly. I've had every item on the menu and it has always been delicious. The restaurant is clean, the atmosphere is relaxed yet refined. A great place for a date or a night out with friends. I even go there by myself from time to time, just to have a good conversation with the bartenders. I recommend FIVE to everyone I know. If you're in Birmingham, you have to have some FIVE!

Dixie Anderson

What a great place! You won't be disappointed!

robert pinard jr

Sunday brunch with live jazz easy music. Choices of chicken and waffles, burrito, crab cakes, cheeseburger or seasonal market quiche of the week. All are great! Must get both appetizers of bignet and avocado toast also. Our 45 minute wait was only 15. It is worth the wait.

Rosibel Smith

FANTASTIC!! Awesome food and service, great prices! Will go again.

Katrina Nakhjavan

The panneed chicken is so good. The brunch is also good, with a Bloody Mary bar. You can’t go often, Bc they only have 5 things, but the 5 things they have are all pretty good.

Brian Tunnell

This restaurant has delicious menu options, my husband and I ordered the pan-seared chicken with mashed potatoes and a glass of wine called The Crusher, which was perfect for a romantic date night! We sat outside on the patio with a view of urban downtown. The waiter was friendly and personable, he also brought us a complimentary dessert of delicous toasted coconut cookies.

Oh man this is one of the best places in the city for Sunday brunch. The chicken and waffles is amazing. There are only ever five items on the menu (hence the name) but they've perfected each of those items. Sunday morning there is live music and happy hour mimosas (after 12 of course). I love the atmosphere.

Derrick Lovett

This restaurant has a great atmosphere and vert friendly and helpful staff. The service was very good and attentive. The food was ok but it might have been my choice from the brunch menu. I would recommend trying this place and see what they have to offer.

Meredith Kaletski

First visit, they offered me alcohol without checking my ID. Second visit I came yesterday for an anniversary. Pita chips were STALE, steak COMPLETELY RAW (when ordered medium), and the burger FREEZING COLD with BURNT bread. Waited TOO LONG for a new burger to want to eat there anymore. WE WERE THE ONLY CUSTOMERS IN THE RESTAURANT! Should've taken that as a sign. Manager was RUDE. There are several better restaurants in Birmingham to eat at. Never coming back and WARNING everyone I know never to eat at this DISGUSTING restaurant.

William TheConquerer

Have been to this location now 3 times. Each time the food was excellent. Love the concept of having 5 menu items in each category that constantly change. Love the old "Lakeview" building with its front porch and beautiful old wood work. It loses a star for me, however, because the service, especially at these higher than average prices, has been way below average. Once I could forgive, but 3 out of 3 times is no longer random chance.

Ruth Ellis

Shrimp and Grits were awesome.

Jennifer Adams

Everything on the menu is fantastic. Jazz brunch on Sundays is a blast. Usually a line so use the No Wait app to get in line before you show up.

Matt Lader

Good food and service. Pineapple jalapeno margarita is fantastic

Allie Hulcher

the crab cake benedict was amazing! it's a great atmosphere with the live music and beautiful setting. I felt very swanky eating brunch here.

Hannah George King

Went for lunch on a Friday, so the menu was limited (didn't realize that). The food was good, but not worth the price for lunch. I did enjoy the chance to sit outside and enjoy the weather!

Geoffrey R

The paneed chicken was delicious and the banana pudding was amazing. The chief should get a raise! :)

Chantaliscia Saunders

Go for ladies night on Thursday!

Anna Lane

Ben and Ward are amazing! Great drinks, food and service.

TaJuana Grant

Great Place with an amazing jazz brunch

William Tyner

Had brunch today. Busy, but great atmosphere. Carolina, our waitress, was excellent and prompt. Food was amazing....

Klutch Bucket

Great simple food. I love the atmosphere with all the hanging chandeliers.

Scott Crawford

Great atmosphere and tasty food! Waitress was very busy, but remained very pleasant the whole time. Look forward to returning soon!

Herb Springer

Great food, and they handled our very large table well. Food arrived quickly and as ordered. We really enjoyed it.

Candice Luts

They have a good happy hour with amazing mixed drinks. Also, do yourself a favor and get the bake avacado.

Rose Brown

Great atmosphere, especially for dinner. Such a cool vibe with the low lighting and chandeliers and windows hanging from the ceiling. The FIVE burger is fantastic.

Vanessa Mallard

I visited Birmingham to surprise a friend. I was looking for a nice brunch spot. I had read the reviews and almost every review was a good one, but they all stated there was a wait. So, I was expecting a wait. And sure enough there was a wait, about 30 - 50 minutes. In any case, we got in and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. They had a live band playing that was really nice, too. This place has a really nice vibe and is great for big groups. I suggest you ccheck it out, but don't go if you're starving. Also, the beignets are soooooo delicious, try them!!!

Luis Palomino

The environment was pleasant. Clean and southern wooding style. Staff was responsive to all request. The coffee was really good not to bitter and right amount of heat. The problem comes with the food. It's overpriced. The ingredients are decent and fresh but nothing stands out. The food was good but not great for the price they are asking for.

Charles Fuller

I went for dinner and hated it. Their lunch menu is totally different and more affordable. I love the lunch menu

Dennis Gagnon

Good tasting food service was a little off the night we were there.

S E

My burrito was great, but the service was very poor. My husband had the chicken and waffle which was very mediocre. Not worth the price nor the wait.

Kelly Pan

Everyone should try the chicken. It is amazing!

Lena Everett

Simple menu, but delicious food! Not the most flexible about substitutions which might make this place a poor choice for those with dietary considerations, but still a great experienced over all.

K. Wright

A good location for a meeting

alia dickenson

GKM Equestrian

jordan thompson

Fantastic chicken and waffles, atmosphere, and the best live music at brunch anywhere in Birmingham!

Whit Whit

Food is Great! Experience is awesome. My Favorite Brunch Spot on Sundays! Live Band & Great Customer Service!

Tim Yates

Great food and atmosphere.

John Spitzer

Great food excellent service. Upscale yet down to earth atmosphere. The oysters any way..... Perfect! Snapper and lamb no words to describe. Five u rock!

Went there last Sunday and our waitress was very rude and racist. Then after speaking to the manager we noticed that her attitude reflected the same as her waitress RUDE AND RACIST ! Used to be regular now I'm never going back worst shrive of the year award.

It was average food. Average service

Five gets a high five from me after my girl's night out there. And they get bonus points for hosting a fundraiser in behalf of the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. It was a warm summer night when we went, so we chose smaller fare: sticky, sweet shrimp, a little duo of petite potted spreads (smoked tuna, piemento cheese) and pita chips, and the surprise of the evening...a baked avocado half featuring toasted and light breadcrumbs, integrated bacon and a savory mayo sauce backlit with an onion confit. The interior was just was intriguing as our food choices that night. The ceiling glittered from the the lights of vintage and contemporary chandeliers. Folk art added to the ambience with silhouettes of farm animals and more detailed portraits of famous musicians. There was no tableside service; rather we ordered at the bar. We had to contend with order takers who were busy mixing drinks for the queue of the drinks only crowd. Shortly after our order was placed we received our food. All in all, a pleasurable experience.

Madelyn Brantley

I went for Sunday brunch. The latte was pretty gross to be honest, and my breakfast burrito was barely lukewarm on the inside. The atmosphere and live music were nice at least.

Joseph Hurley

Food was horrible steak was more fat then anything waited 45 minutes for the waitress to even come by for a drink refill definitely way I over priced. Will not be back

Johnny Harrington

The bread pudding is literally the most perfect bread pudding on Earth. I'm a chef. I've been a chef for 15 years. I still go to Five when I want bread pudding instead of making my own. It's both mystifying, satisfying, and irksome.

Maria Bascetta

Have never been to Birmingham before and not much open on Sunday night so dropped in. Hostess was rude, bartender didn’t even ask if we wanted to eat after sitting at bar for 20 min. They seemed stressed and we left as we felt like an inconvenience.

Adam Landingham

The food was really good, atmosphere was top notch, but the service was a little slow.

Bill Corbett

Definitely one of our favorite places to go... Whether it's Friday night, Saturday night or Sunday brunch, this place delivers!

Pat Morrow

Do you really want to pay twice the price for a standard quality restaurant meal?

Great Service. Great food. Brunch was top notch!

Sunday Brunch is Great go after noon if you want mimosas or anything alcoholic on Sundays. Great start to Sunday Fundays. The food is simple but that is part of the charm. It can get packed generally it flows so the wait times are not that for 1,2,3 or 4 person group(s) over 4 is going to be a wait but that is also to be expected.

Joey Hendrix

Bad experience. Went for dinner around 8pm on a Sunday night, they were busy but not slammed. Our server had our table (of 2), a party of 7, and another party across the restaurant. Took 15 minutes to get our drinks to our table. Then we had to flag him down just to order our food. Once the food finally came, my fiancé's meal was literally cold. Now we're the kind of people who strongly dislike having to send food back, but when the Panéed Chicken and mashed potatoes are cold to the touch you really have no other option. Next problem: after 10 minutes of looking for our server to send the food back, we had to flag down a different server and tell her the problem (when we aren't even her table/problem). So she takes the food and brings us some fries to munch on. 15 minutes later the new dish comes out and tastes amazing. I would like to note that we ran out of drinks roughly 3 times and even had to finish my meal without a drink (where oh where is the server?). What's most disappointing is that after all this mess they didn't even discount the cold meal. I didn't want the meal for free, but at least send a manager over or take like 10% off the check, do SOMETHING. Nope. So we paid our bill and left (almost 2 hours later). Very bad experience and will never return. Staff is terrible and reeks of cigarette smoke, so classy.

We brought some out of town friends here to experience the Birmingham food scene. They were in love with the comfort food and fried chicken. We go once every couple of months, I would like to see the menu change up a little for more added deliciousness.

Davis Varner

The food was delicious and we had good service despite it being busy.

Hascal Humes

Fun and lively brunch atmosphere. Loved the beignets for an appetizer, they added apple flavor! We went with the breakfast burrito which was great. The best part was the mimosas that had just a splash of orange juice so you definitely get what you pay for. Will definitely be back soon!
