I've only been able to eat at their food truck, but I am sure that the restaurant is just as good! The chicken is always fresh and tasty! The chicken is definitely spicy, but flavorful. The staff at the food truck is always friendly. Sometimes you have a bit of a wait, but it is worth it!

Parking is a little of a hassle, but the chicken is amazing. The chicken tenders and Fries is what I always get. The chicken sandwich is good too. Always get some kind of heat for that extra taste. I like mild personally.

This was my bf and my first time eating hot chicken from a place that specializes in it. It was a very short walk from our hotel and it has a nice vibe. The mild tenders and waffles had great flavor and just enough spice for me, while my bf got the hot tenders with a side of Mac n cheese.

The food here is great! A small place with amazing spicy chicken and waffles! My only issue is a temporary problem, construction around the area makes getting to the store a confusing task. But even with this difficulty, the place is very popular so expect a line.

I have had Nashville hot style chicken before from several places, including hattie b's and can comfortably say i prefer Eugenes. There are some differences, the stupid hot seasoning i tried had a very similar spice profile to traditional Nashville hot chicken, however there is a lot of sweetness up front that really works well with the level of heat in the chicken. Honestly some of the best chicken i have eaten in my life. The sides were also very good, the price point is generous as well. Definitely try the greens and the mac, both exemplified what i want in soul food. I will definitely come back!

Oh my oh my oh my!!!!! I wish I lived closer. This is by far the absolutely best fried Chicken I have ever tasted in my life! No wonder it has so many amazing reviews. The chicken and waffles were to DIE FOR. The waffle nearly melted in my mouth the chicken is fried to a perfect delicious crisp, and the side of corn was a amazing. Add this to my top 10 list if restaurants worldwide! Absolutely incredible! And to help the whole experience the staff was super friendly. We ordered a bucket of chicken to go. Can't wait to get back on the road

Awesome friend chicken. I can't handle spicy so I can't speak to any hotness but they still do a killer no heat chicken. I always get the parsnip and carrot fries as my side - a cool twist and your traditional potatoe fries. If it's lunch time they can be busy, expect around a 20 to 25 minute wait to order and then get your food. Totally worth it though if you aren't on a tight 30 minute lunch break.

Met the owner, he was a kind, young man. The atmosphere is a bit gritty it's done on purpose. It was clean, but the gritty edge with black trim is better for a night club. The food was a different experience. Several people around me had the sales and did not finish them. The waffles looked limp and under cooked. I had the Damn hot chicken and it was plenty spicy a new experience in flavor for me. I would gladly take the journey again.

Great food and side dishes and I even live there drink selection you definitely will need a drink with anything about Medium sauce! They have a food truck but I will always support them when I’m in Birmingham because the food and service is always amazing!

Compared to hot chicken places in Nashville, this wasn't as spicy, not quite as tender, and a bit on the greasy side. That said, good flavor, good crispiness, and the combination of Nashville spice and Alabama white barbecue sauce is delicious.

Oh my God!! I was slated to eat at a nearby restaurant but the wait was one hour. Walking away, I saw a sign that said hot chicken and decided to give it a try. Turned out to be a great decision!! Walking in, there was a hole in the wall vibe, so I knew the food would be good. I ordered the whole wings with fries. There is an option for different sauces so I chose hot. The hot was not spicy but had a great kick. The food was cooked to order so my plate came piping hot. Although hot, I indulged myself in this fabulous meal. Everything was seasoned well including the fries, but the icing on the cake was the piece of white bread on the bottom that soaked up the sauce and grease from the chicken. My last few pieces of meat were enjoyed between this slice of bread. My only complaint is the drink machine because it is not your typical Coke or Pepsi products but I opted for tea. I look forward to returning!!

As a big fan of Hattie B’s, I really enjoyed Eugene’s. The food was delicious! There are a lot more options on the menu here at Eugene’s. I’m giving 4 stars because the line was out the door and we waited an hour to get our food out to us. There didn’t seem to be a sense of urgency from the staff. But none the less, the food was good and I will definitively be going back!

The BEST hot chicken hole in the wall in town, period. They aren't the spiciest in town, and I love spicy food. But they more than make up for it in taste and tenderness of their chicken. I do the boneless spicy tenders. And you can load on additional sides for $2 a piece, and they are all good. Always fun to catch their food truck when it is convenient. Their location in Uptown is tiny and gets busy at lunch, but nobody seems to mind bumping elbows when the food is this spectacular.

I went to Eugene's with my two daughters they met me down there anyway I was there 20 minutes before my daughters arrived I place the order at 101 at 1:31 I still did not have my order when I said something to the girl oh let me not forget the young lady brought me the wrong order and I corrected her when I corrected her she just walked away didn't say anything young lady with red dreads then turned around my daughter got there placed her order my daughter's food came out and then I said something again to the young lady how did my daughter food come out and I still haven't received my food and I ordered a half an hour prior the young lady begins to tell me I gave your food to someone else it was my fault but didn't show no type of sympathy like I wasn't hungry go to the front and ask for my money back then I go back and ask to speak to a manager the young man told me the manager wasn't there okay so I waited and I went back and I asked again when will the manager be back the white lady at the counter goes on to tell me I am the manager so now I'm confused because I went to you told you I waited over half an hour and all you did was refund my money she is so no damn sympathy like I didn't just wait in our store and waste damn near hour of my day still hungry and had to go back to work I don't care how good the food is I will not spend another dime with y'all the truck or in the store the funny thing is you never know who somebody is and I spent a lot of money throughout this state of Birmingham Alabama with a lot of restaurants but this one restaurant will never get my money or my children's money and anybody that ask about this store will be told not to go bad customer service and damn sure is even worse when the manager gives you awful customer service

First time, it was alright. The hot was just the right amount of spicy. The chicken was a little dry. It seemed like it was sitting under the warmers for awhile. The fries weren’t that good. No seasoning. Since everything else had so much spice they over powered the fries. The prices were a little high for what you get.

We were so looking forward to Eugene's but were sadly disappointed. Two if the three orders for chicken were wrong. We asked for naked & got breaded. Did not have the 20-30 minutes to wait for naked wings. So, lunch consisted of collards & deviled eggs. Refund on the wings was so sad in the we had walked 3/10 mile with great anticipation. One order of wings were eaten & well, the Hot & Hot Damn sauce was good but the collards had more spice, such a disappointment when you are looking for the burn. So, so sad.

Holy cow we did not know what we were getting when we decided to walk up the street to this restaurant from the Sheraton in downtown Birmingham. They were only a few restaurants and close walking distance so we headed to this one. It is a very small establishment in a corner space and they do have a lot of items to choose from focusing on hot spiced chicken. The chicken was amazing. The side items were pretty good but I did get the Banana pudding which was with in a very small little cup and it was $3.50 Cent which I thought was pretty overpriced for the portion.

I’m So proud of this restaurant! Black owned & the food is actually good! It can sit up to 30 people inside. I do see there are renovations happening that will allow additional outside seating as well! I order the popcorn chicken with a waffle and the Bake beans are incredible!

15 min wait in line. 20 min wait for food. Plus my cohort (ordered before me) had an additional 10 minute wait. Tasty chicken, catfish too. Potato salad was sweet. Not my thing. Creamy Mac and cheese was soupy, not creamy. Also, flavor profile was that of potato soup. A little disappointing. Maybe the food trucks are better? Gonna try more places, but so far, Gus's is the front runner.

Great little chicken joint near the Uptown district in Birmingham. The pros: the quality of service is phonemoninal, supportive and hard-working cast of employees, modern location, and consistency of food quality with a bolstering menu of sides to compliment the amazing chicken. The cons: the size of the location (although the food gets out so quick you never really worry). Slightly more expensive than similar restaurants in Birmingham but not much more and is reasonably priced considering it is in a modern, newly renovated section of Birmingham. Altogether, Eugene's Hot Chicken is a great chicken place in Birmingham and offers high quality service everytime.

Excellent and quick service. A TON of food. Have mercy, I ordered a "bucket" of 12 wings, not expecting WHOLE wings....this was lunch, dinner and lunch again. Tried the plain or Southern and the Mild, because I wanted to taste the plain wing. The Southern was delicious, subtle yet complete seasoning. The mild has a sweet heat that is not overwhelming. Try the blue cheese which was sweet, tangy, and creamy deliciousness. I think I might've found my Birmingham wing place!

I have only eaten at the food truck. I usually get the Hot Tenders. Everytime the flavor is outstanding and the staff working the truck are great. Truly a Birmingham staple that I everyone should try. It is a little grease heavy so I bring a banana or something to even that out. But it's fried chicken so don't expect it to be healthy.

Great food if you love the TN Hot style. I recommend getting the heat level in at least "hot" or else you are missing out. Several delicious sides to choose from too. The down side to this place is the seating. There is not nearly enough room in there, especially during lunch. Because of the limited space, its always warm inside the restaurant.

I just got the hot this time(I reserve hotter stuff after initiation). But it was really good. Pickled deep fried okra was awesome and so was the chicken. It was very reasonably priced, the quarter dark meal was $11 even and it was filling. I would definitely come back and try some of their hotter chicken.

My boyfriend loves this place, although it's not my favorite. The chicken is really greasy and the service is super slow. We waited almost 45 minutes for 2 plates. Then they ran out of ranch so no ranch for my hot, hot chicken. I was not happy and neither were the people next to us. I would go again, but it's not worth fighting traffic for.

This is the best hot chicken around! Hands Down! The chicken is perfectly crispy and coated in sauce. Comes with just the right amount of sauce compared to some places that over drench the chicken causing it to get soggy! The Mac n cheese is my go to side and it also does not disappoint. It will be nice when the road construction is done to ease access to the restaurant.

Tonight was my first time eating here and I loved it! I ordered the jumbo wings in hot heat with fries and an extra side of collard greens. If you're a greens fan, I would definitely recommend them. I’ve been too this place several times and I do not believe I’ll be coming back. The chicken is pretty good but some of the employees where very rude. The white lady behind the register was friendly as can be but a couple of her colleagues where the farthest thing from that. The one black girl that brought my food out literally dropped my plate on the counter and one of the tenders fell off the plate, with her bare hands she reached down and put it back on. A few minutes later when I was sitting there eating a black dude was taking out the trash. As he walked by me he brushed over me with the trash bag. So yea the tenders where good and the middle aged caucasian female taking orders where both what you would expect and more but unfortunately the other four stars are not there because of the rude employees. We customers notice things and we don’t like a trash bag brushing across us when we are eating. And we don’t like a glassy stare from a rude girl who dropped the food on the counter

Finger licking good chicken tenders! I've waited almost all summer to get my hands on some of these babies from Eugene's and it was so worth the wait. I caught him at Saturn's in Avondale. No line, no waiting (very rare for Eugene's), and my food was hot and ready within seconds of ordering! No kidding! I ordered the mild jumbo tenders with fries. $8.00 even. I wanted to try the banana pudding but the only dessert offered was lemon blueberry pound cake, which sounded delicious. Maybe I just don't love "hot chicken"? The establishment was fine. Small, and a long line when we went, but I imagine that the crowd was due to a big event happening at the BJCC that night. I love spicy foods. I love spicy fried chicken. But this "hot chicken" trend just hasn't hooked me. I don't know what spice or flavoring is used, but it's not my cup of tea. All the flavor seems to be in the breading without any seeping into the meat itself.
