This Restaurant is included in the category of Mexican restaurant.
I've been to Cocina Superior several times and today I found my favorite dish. Our server wasn't very friendly. Admittedly I had questions, so I think I got on his nerves. All in all the food was delicious!
They have great food and great drinks and absolutely wonderful service. It's 5 stars all around.
The food was tasty and service was very courteous!
I love the flank steak.
If your looking for Mexican food with American influence this is your place. The food is good but the hidden gem they serve is the charbroiled oysters on the half shell. Yes, these at this Mexican restaurant are great. They also have great drink specials for happy hour and great Cocktail mixtures.
Food is good. But service is horrible! Sat at bar waited 20 minutes for beer. Also sat beside dirty dishes for 45 min before the cleaned bar
Last visit was not the greatest for service. Usually pretty fast a d efficient.
The best Tex-Mex place in the Birmingham area. Authentic fare. Professional service. Nice atmosphere.
Loved everything we tried, especially the shrimp
The service was great. The food was bland and mediocre. The most flavorful item I tasted was the salsa.
Super delicious and tender steak fajita meat in my burrito. Great food and experience. Would return if we were locals.
If you like tequila in your frozen margaritas....this is the place for you. Btw - the food, service and environment is da' bomb! Don't go there....I don't want it to be too crowded for me.
My first time eating at this restaurant. My friend took me to lunch. The food was good, waitress was pleasant and the atmosphere was enjoyable. I will definitely return.
Bad service and overpriced drinks. Plenty of better Mexican in town. Three stars only for ambiance...it's a pretty space with nice decor.
Thanks for the great service and the great music over the loud speaker! Can't wait to return!!
Great Mexican cuisine at a fair price. Happy hour specials are great, Sunday is happy hour all day, and you get a free cup to take home with you. Their desserts are incredible and they have great queso. Located in the heart of the Brookwood mall, this restaurant is hard to beat for food quality, portion size, and overall value.
The slowest Saturday they have seen in a while and the kitchen still managed to make 2/3 dishes a horrible experience. Chicken and Spinach enchiladas - burnt chicken, cold rice, the salad was tasty though. Sent it back for better chicken and this time the enchiladas were cold. LOL Chargrilled Oysters and a fried chicken salad - whomever was working the grill obviously didn't know the difference between chargrilled, grilled, and burnt! Oysters horrible but used to be great. Chicken looked like burnt nuggets! It's not a suprise we only visit once every 2-3 years for Cinco de Mayo. Sad.
Great food, get the chicken fajitas. Happy hour margaritas are large for the price of small and it is worth it. Top shelf alcohol
Good guacamole
Good tex meg. It eat here often,
Enjoy the Place every time I visit Good Food Great Service
This place has the best salsa. Had the fajitas and the were awesome too with homemade tortillas.
Went here for a mid-afternoon meal on a weekday and enjoyed it completely. I had been here before on a Friday night and had a not-so-great experience. So glad I gave it a second chance!
The bathrooms were disgusting. It took an hour to get our food after we ordered it. It took a half an hour to get our checks after we asked for them. It was so loud we had difficulty talking to each other. For two people, we paid over $80 and the food was mediocre at best. After happy hour ends their tiny cups of alcohol are $14 a drink. Will not be back.
I made reservations for my husband's birthday and when I arrived 15 minutes early,I was told it would be almost an hour before we would be seated, it was over an hour and there was a group of the same size that walked in and was seated before my party and I was told they got a table before us because they had 10 people and not 8??? I still don't understand how that makes any sense!
Always high quality food and excellence service. A little high priced but fantastic tex-mex
Best place in Birmingham to get Mexican food. A cut above!
Something is not so good about their drinks, something is wrong!
We were not happy at al with our food today. The Chicken Monica has always been totally awesome, but today because it was on a sizzling hot skiłlet it made the chicken burnt tasting and the rice had hard pieces I think also caused by the hot skillet. My daughters crab enchilada tasted like a tamale with fake crab meat. I tried sharing this information with the manager but she was totally rude about it. Unfortunately it ruined my day because I had such buyers remorse and I won't be able to trust that it will be worth it in the future. It's really sad because all I wanted was the manager to take me serious and consider some changes versus making me feel like I was after a free meal. I have plenty of money so that wasn't it at all, although it was tuff to pay $50 for two people to eat crappy food. Her solution was next time to ask for a substitution, but when it takes 20 minutes to get your food the last thing you want to do is wait again!
Pretty good variety of Tex-Mex food with a few healthier choices, good queso dip, and a solid selection of drinks. Atmosphere is nice enough for date night while being laid back enough to bring the kids, too. Consistently good food and service is what keeps us coming back!
Great food and drinks in a great Atmosphere.
We've been eating at Cocina Superior for over 10 years and it never disappoints! Service and food is always great!
I had the the absolute best service and food (chicken Monica) here yesterday for lunch! I will definitely be back!
Me and my husband went here last weekend and it was delicious! great staff love the atmosphere there and the drinks were delicious as well cant wait to go back and try something new.
Roasted salsa, Primo. Top shelf Margarita is tough to top. Generous portions. Trendy, well to do crowd. Kid free zone
Excellent food and service
Really overpriced. Tortillas so hard they were almost inedible. Service was slow. I wouldn't return or recommend this restaurant to anyone. Evidently other people already know... Not at all busy on a Saturday night. Disappointed.
Good salsa
I've been to Cocina Superior several times and today I found my favorite dish. Our server wasn't very friendly. Admittedly I had questions, so I think I got on his nerves. All in all the food was delicious!
Very rude when we showed up with a party of 11. Said it will be an hour or more when we saw several open tables. Lost my business
We love this place...great for a date night, great for the family. Great food, great drinks. We don't live near it anymore unfortunately but still go when we are back in town. Highly recommended!
OMG the food was awesome great service!
Great Atmosphere for family and friends. Food was excellent!
Good food. Not cheap. Good service. Automatic unannounced 20% gratuity for parties. Good adult beverages.
Food Was Great Service And Server Wa Excellent
Super thin crispy chips
Nice and convenient location, kind of pretty, inside and the surrounding area, waiter and staff were courteous and attentive. A couple of different plates, but other than that, nothing special really (may have to visit a second time to better judge them). Not even their expensive margarita. Over all, a pricey restaurant with not much to offer. I'm sure you can get better food for a better price at your nearby Mexican restaurant.
Food is good, but it's not nearly as good as the person pricing the food thinks it is. Their is just no value here. You'll get good food and good service, but you're going to overpay for all of it.
Good service. Food was good
Aways great food. Love sitting at the bar here...
Really very nicely-prepared higher-end Mexican fare. Always enjoyable. Their Oaxacan mole sauce is among the best I've had, so try the enchiladas poblano..
Food was great, waiter was great, atmosphere was great. Would go again. Guacamole made fresh at the table was phenomenal!!
Food could use a little more love. The decor is nice and the staff decent.
Love the oysters. Super delish!!!
Fun. Good food. Great happy hour. Thursday night hosts a live band and street music and dance from May -September Thursday after 5. Everyone, every age was enjoying.
Delicious food, great ambience, awesome service
The food isn’t bad its just high but overall servers are very attentive even when busy
Great Place!!! Loved the Oysters!!! Best in town!!!
Always great Service...I just wished they used bigger oysters
Food and margaritas were excellent. Great outing.
This place has the absolute BEST Carne Asada I've ever had! Great food, great service, reasonably priced.
Food was great! But service was terrible
Even with our group of 30 we had fantastic service and drinks were wonderful.
Food is good, but it's not nearly as good as the person pricing the food thinks it is. Their is just no value here. You'll get good food and good service, but you're going to overpay for all of it.
Very good Mexican food. I love going there whenever I get a chance
Awesome steak and Margaritas!
Love the drinks.
Food is very good. The service was ok. The waiter didn't remember who ordered what in our party of four so he put each plate down wrong without asking. Very nice to be able to make reservations in advance. They had our table ready with only a couple of minutes wait. Prices on a few items were kinda high but on their specialty dishes you really get what you pay for.
Love this place. Food is great. Our server Jeremy was off the hook. Eat here Everytime I am in Birmingham. Highly recommend
Delicious food and drinks, however the person who sat us at the table did not know brunch hours; said we would have to inquire with the waitress.
We just had a drink and a "Tableside Guacamole" at the bar ... and it was fabulous. I quickly took a picture, but we had already eaten it all (updated it anyway).
Great food and service. Quoted 30 minutes wait time at peak rush Saturday night and was seated after an hour
Fajitas were good.
It is good food, maybe entirely authentic but good.
I'm mad at myself for living in Birmingham for 6 months and not trying this place before last night. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was amazing. We had a very big party and service was great and everyone loved their food. I had the chicken chimichanga and it was the best I've ever had at a restaurant. I will be coming back often!
Great great food! Me and my boyfriend called ahead on a real busy night and got a table in 30 minutes. We loved the way it looked inside, the food came out at a decent time, and the food tasted so so good! It was not too expensive. For both of us it was like $38!
I recommend the salmon salad. It is the best I have had!
A wonderful time the second go around. Waiter waa attentive and made sure we had enough of whatever we needed. Plus the margaritas are amazing.
Great food and Atmosphere! Definitely recommend for a date spot.
Nice modern decor and the food is pretty decent typically. I got the fish tacos this time, and probably would not get them again. It what basically a fish stick on a tortilla. Would try another entree next time. Table-side guacamole was really good and the chips were warm and good. Server was attentive.
Love this place. Ask for Juan's section and your service will be top notch.
The service and the food was good.
Excellent service and fun atmosphere
Always a great place to go for some great Tex-Mex. Always great no matter how busy they are. The salsa is some of the best I have ever had. I have only had a few different meals and they were excellent. Highly recommended, even if you have to wait to be seated.
Only my favorite Friday after work good time place for food with friends AND the best margaritas EVER!!
Nice environment and pleasant food
It’s okay. The food is bland and kind of expensive for what you get. It has nice outdoor seating with a nice view.
Great Mexican restaurant. Only thing to watch for is if you order the vegetarian meal the beans are made with a meat base.
Food was great as always. Today the food took longer to arrive at our table than in past visits. My kids and husband were a bit upset, but once it arrived it was cery tasty.
The atmosphere was nice and the service was friendly, but the food was nothing special.
Great food and nice restaurant!
Great food. Great service Not average texmex flavor.
Great food perfect atmosphere. Good prices also. Will be back soon.
A wonderful time the second go around. Waiter waa attentive and made sure we had enough of whatever we needed. Plus the margaritas are amazing.
And we had a great waitr he was very nice and on point
Don't waste your money.
Great salsa! Good service. Clean
Slow service, food not cooked right , overpriced
Experience was so so! Salsa too spicy, no other options. Margarita was so so! Appetizer was good? Waitress was dry!
I went with my family they say the twelve of us quickly. That was shocking. I ordered the tacos but the chicken ones had very Chunky Chicken in them, so I changed it to the beef tacos. The price is reasonable.
Love everything including the cute waiter
I was worried... When we sat down and they brought chips and salsa with a consistency and taste similar to water it looked like it may have been a mistake to go there. However, everything else was remarkably good. It is on the pricey side but worth it in the end. The entrees came with refried black beans... A very pleasant surprise. The miserable salsa cost them a star. I considered dropping them to 3. But considering how good the other food was that would not have been fair.
Forgot to take a pic, but the food was delicious! And the happy hour was even better. The waiter was great
Service was not good. Also, no consistency in dishes. Ordered the same thing multiple times, the baja vege wrap, not good anymore. I think they are changing chefs. Guacamole good .
Great food
Amazing place and amazing server!! When you go ask for Juan! He is SO much fun!
Food and service was excellent
The food is flavorful TexMex, interesting signature drinks and fun decor. But...I wish I wouldn't leave smelling like the fry grill.
Great food and service
Great Mexican food. Loved their salsa. And service, Rachel, was awesome. The black bean soup (with a little rice added from my plate) was fantastic.
Terrible food, service, & management. Menu says happy hour all day Sunday. When server took order she said that management told them that they no longer do Sunday happy hour. First off was brought salsa that looked like red water. So runny you couldn’t eat it. Cheese dip was also bland and was like water. Ordered grilled oyster appetizer came out with entree and had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. Ordered corn tortillas with ribeye fajitas and received none with my meal when served, 10 minutes later I was brought flower. Told waitress they where flour then she argued with me then walked off. Another waitress asked if I needed anything I said corn tortillas and she promptly brought me corn tortillas. Pork tacos where dried out and cold. Spoke with manager offered to do nothing and honestly did not care that food and service where awful. I have been here many times over past decade but will not be returning. This is the 3rd bad experience in a row here in last 4 months. Hard to go back when it’s not cheap and the food and service are pathetic.
I think this just isn't my place. Service was fine. But the value is way off considering you can get equivalent food for half the price elsewhere.
Great food and nice and friendly waitstaff.
As always, excellent food, great service. Juan is superior
Overpriced and mediocre Mexican food.
First time and was very pleased overall; plan to return. The service was attentive and the food was very well done. Had the skirt steak and it was the best cooked I've ever had hands down. Queso is wonderful. The only complaint was the noise - very loud; but to be fair, the place was packed! Queso and dinner plates, no alcohol = $55 after tip.
Great staff, Mexican food, and atmosphere
Food is always fresh and delicious. Have tried most of the menu and have never been disappointed. They should bottle their salsa!
Everything went fine to start with. The bartender was very attentive and immediately greeted us and took our drink orders as well as a appetizer order. Towards the end of the appetizer round he took our entree order. That's when things went South. It took no less than 45 minutes before entrees were delivered. They were cold and poorly prepared. Didn't even eat a bite of mine. I hate to say it but I may never be back to this restaurant and I have been there dozens of times over the years. This is the second time we've had service issues like this. It may be because of low unemployment and maybe it's just hard to find good kitchen help these days. Such a shame
Nice place and people. Great
Had an Enchilada el Carbon. Delicious entre. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was lively. The salsa had a nice kick to it.
Consistently delicious food and excellent service! The steak fajitas were the best I've had in Alabama and certainly they are closest to the fajitas I would get growing up in Dallas. The crab enchiladas are also fantastic. The hubs loves the enchiladas suiza. Best margaritas in town. Salsa is great, too. Guacamole isn't my fave but I am not a fan of tomatoes in my guac. Chips are always fresh and their flour tortillas are homemade daily! You can watch the chefs making them as you walk up to the restaurant. Hands down my favorite Mexican food in the state!
Wow! What great food and atmosphere! This is my absolute favorite restaurant to go to, and my boyfriend agrees! The waitstaff is.incredibly on point. They remember your order, refill your drinks appropriately, and remember you if you come often! That's just the service, the food is as authentic as you can get! It's always fresh, hot, and flavorful. No matter what I get on the menu, tacos, fajitas, or chicken molé, I know it's going to be good!
This is a great restaurant all around. Their food is flavorful and the drinks are strong! I highly recommend the frozen pomegranate margarita and the fajitas! Whether dinning in or having them cater a function, you really can't go wrong! The restaurant also has a unique patio area that can be enclosed/temperature controlled or open to the outside.
Nice restaurant, good food, live music.
Honestly really disappointed with this restaurant. Currently sitting at the table now. Dinner reservations at 7 and food didn’t come till 8:50. The waiter was way overworked and had to manage more than he was capable of. I expect better from Cocina.
"fancy" Mexican! Best Margaritas in Bham! Plus great food and great service! But I wish they would fix the doors on the stalls in the women's room
Nice place and people. Great
Had an Enchilada el Carbon. Delicious entre. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was lively. The salsa had a nice kick to it.
Went in to enjoy happy hr. Power went out waited 45 mins then was told they could be closing. Ok no problem. Waiter Fernando has a horrible attitude he 1st lied and said we could pay via card and card numbers wouldn't be written down but they were then asked to speak to manger who was Brad he neither was any help or displayed customer service being in a manager position. The food might be great buy due to outage we were unable to determine that. Horrible customer service.

Love the atmosphere, Cecil, Ricardo, Bradley and Arturo just to name a few.
First time...loved it
Amazing Mexican food with lots of options on the menu! Desserts just ok, but frozen mojito was awesome!
I truly enjoyed myself and our waiter Fernando was amazing. Love Love Loved the Margarita Sangria swirl. Awesome.!!!!!!! Beautiful restaurant.
Solid restaurant. Food is above average, location and interior are nice, service was sub par. Would be willing to return to give service another try. Chorizo queso and the crab enchiladas were really good.
Good Mexican cantina, large open space, friendly staff. Food was standard Mexican fare, the variety seemed a little less than I expected. Parking is a short walk to a nearby garage- this restaurant is next to a shopping mall.
This restaurant is always great! The servers are is always helpful when we go also!
Clean, inviting decor ... Food was nicely presented and tasty (well ..one of my grilled talapia fillets was burned tasting. good thing they serve plentiful portions
Great food and drinks. It took them a little too long to bring the food but it was really good.
Great atmosphere with a good menu selection. The food is always great!
Food's pretty good, but WAY overpriced! Husband & I had dinner there a few nights ago. We ordered the cheese dip, which was different, but had a nice flavor. The chips are some of the best I've ever had, very light, thin & crispy. They were hot and you could tell they were fresh. I ordered a margarita (which was $15!). It was alright, very strong, but flavor was ok. But honesty I've had better & cheaper top shelf margaritas at other Mexican restaurants. Husband had a beer & a shot of tequila. For dinner he had a combo plate, I had the enchilada plate. Food tasted good, not bland. Cooked well & seasoned well. I feel like we did wait a bit longer than expected for the food, but the waiter was polite & attentive. Overall the experience wasn't bad, but I can't say I'll return here, I just don't think it's worth the price.
We went to this restaurant for my friend's birthday. It was TERRIBLE!!!! The food was burnt. The drinks were nasty. The server was rude. He knocked my drink over and refused to refill it. He did not even clean up after his own mess. Do NOT go here!!!
The best chimichangas!
Cheese dip and quesadilla were good, the elderflower drink was good and the service. The vibe was nice as well. I'll be going back.
Stuff avocado and grilled oysters are amazing!!
The ONLY down side was the volume but considering how busy it was, it's more understandable. Excellent service, food and atmosphere. I highly suggest saving room for their delicious brownie and ice cream.
The best Mexican place in Birmingham. Definately not your average strip mall Mexican restaurant.
Great food, service, and ambiance
The food of this restroom was short of mediocre, but if we compare the food to the service the food was extraordinary. I understand there is very exhausting to work in the foodservice industry. Dealing with rude customers and bad tips can be emotionally draining. However, is not an excused to be short with the guess and almost an attitude. The food can be the best in the world, but bad service will make it not matter. I have no Doug that the next time will be better (I hope). The hosting staff was very polite and eager to help. Is a good place that has potential and

Good atmosphere good food
One of my favorite sit down Tex-Mex restaurants in Birmingham. As long as you get a good server, the experience will be great. Salsa here is one of my favorites, along with their happy hour! Good choice for date night!
Sesame chicken delish
To be polite. Food not promptly served (ever so slightly warm when served). Flavors and spicing weak. Tex mex tamale lousey. Water served was fine till refreshed. Taste was not drinkable. Waiter was attentive. The actual serving of food was fine. Hopefully this experience was nothing more than a hiccup.
