Always tasty, well made food. Baked goods are wonderful.
The Spinach and Feta cheese tart is wonderful!!
Cosy and delightful place! The food is fabulous and the dessert is a must! You can never go wrong with the creme brûlée
Breakfast pizza? I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I ordered this, but it blew my mind!
I love the environment. You can get coffee and pastry and sit outside while listening to a french song which they usually play. Isn't that great? :) If you feel hungry, you can get sandwiches with bread from their bakery which is awesome as well.
Great food, cozy place
Great casual French food. Perfect for those seeking healthy choices, which can be hard to find in Birmingham. Good outdoor seating, making it a great spot in nice weather.
Food was amazing with the Authentic French Taste,Wow Finger licking Good taste and atmosphere here is really good.I had a fun time here and surely visit again.
Food and service were excellent as always. Thank you Tessa.
Good experience, nice atmosphere
Great atmosphere and amazing food.
I so wanted to love this place! The menu was great, as was the ambiance. I loved that the kids menu was beyond the typical "chicken nuggets and fries" at most places. Maybe they were having an off day, but service was incredibly slow, and really not that great. The staff were all very friendly, at least. It took forever to get our food - both the appetizers and main courses. We had to ask for water refills - after waiting several (and I mean several) minutes with empty glasses. I understand that things happen in the kitchen that are beyond the servers' control - but at least be attentive to us while the kitchen sorts out their issues! Don't just make us wait for 20 minutes and THEN apologize while you bring our appetizer. Then at least another 20 minutes with no contact, until you apologize while serving us the main dish. The food was good, and would be at least four stars, but the service just didn't cut it for me, I'm sorry to say. But, if you do go, try the socca - that was my favorite part of the experience.
Delicious food in a great setting.
One of my favorite spots.
Amazing! The bread was so fresh and the garlic soup, while my boyfriend compared it to Papa John's garlic sauce, was really good and I enjoyed it.
It's a nice venue but I think it's overpriced
Great atmosphere but very slow service during recent lunch
Amazing food!!
Small and unique little gem of a french restaurant in English Village that has wonderfully delicious eats, a great wine selection, and very immersive ambiance. I always look forward to eating the fresh baked goods or homemade dishes, as it is so rare to find a restaurant without some sort of pre-prepped or frozen dishes. Great patio, as well, during the warmer months!
Airways love coming here. From friendly service, great wine selection, super bread, to great food selections. Never have been disappointed in any way.
yum
Affordable tasty fare. Soup , salads and quiche is their specialty. If quiche is not your thing try one of their Artisan pizzas. Fresh baked bread and crusts from Continental bakery next door. Well stocked bar. Ample wine list. Good beer selection. Unparalleled funky chic, Bohemian atmosphere, in Mountain Brook of all places.
Visited with a large group on a saturday and had great table service. Our server was very patient. Great salad- goat in the orchard, however the salmon sandwich I ordered was dry. Carrot cake had too many nuts for my taste that made it chunky and difficult to cut into with a fork.
Cozy, charming, intimate, good lighting but not too bright! We arrived in the last hour and a half of business on a Wednesday, and we were greeted warmly. There were a couple of large parties and the place is small so they were a little loud, but that's nothing I'd hold against the establishment. We were seated promptly and immediately greeted by our server, who was very sweet. She was very polite, she took our drink orders right away and did not delay with the delivery of those drinks or the complimentary bread. Our salads came out within a few minutes and they were the perfect portion. (To note, they don't have Caesar salad or ranch dressing.) The dijonnaise dressing is very good though! With perfect timing our entrees were brought out, we had the La Doba A La Nissarda, which was also a perfect portion and it was delicious! The perfect meal for a chilly winter night! Our server was very courteous and swept away the dishes after each course at just the right moment. After leaving us just enough time for the main course to settle, our server presented us with the dessert menu. Being a fan of Crème Brûlée anywhere I dine, of course that was my dessert choice. Their version of Crème Brûlée did NOT disappoint! Overall this was a very pleasant experience and we will definitely be back again!
The staff here is friendly and attentive. The food is delicious!
Chez lulu is a very interesting French style restaurant. The food tastes great and the portion sizes are not too big, good enough for one person but don't expect to have any leftovers. The more interesting thing about this place is its ambiance. The whole interior has windows painted on it looking over landscapes. I would highly recommend the place to anyone who visits Birmingham.
Chez LuLu is a wonderful little French bistro. Lots of tasty, healthy options and there are delicious breads and pastries from the bakery next door.
It was quaint and cozy. The food was great and our server Rebecca was the best.
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere.
it just felt good. Looked good. Servicw was good food was good and you get the feeling your not in alabama. Its a nice little hidden spot that id date at If i wanted to impress without spending a ton.
One of our favorites. Great light French inspired fare. Good wines in an eclectic atmosphere in a great little neighborhood.
One of my favorite spots to eat at when visiting birmingham. Friendly staff, chill vibe, good food
Very nice little French bistro. Part of the bakery next door is a plus!
Quaint French cuisine, not too pricey, and amazingly flavorful food.
Fantastic Sunday brunch. Hard to beat a late morning sitting outside under the awning sharing red pepper strata, cheese grits bake, homemade apple sauce and four crepes: strawberry, blueberry, pear and chocolate all of which had good flavors and not over sweet. Pain chocolate and cinnamon raisin roll to go. Happy lazy Sunday morning!
Like being in a Parisian bistro. Fun, eclectic, great drinks, great service
Great food
Always yummy!
Excellent sandwich
One of my wife and my favorite places. We always get the cheese lulu and the Mediterranean sampler. Sometimes we get a sandwich or tart. Sometimes a drink. Highly recomended. Great date night spot. Plus continental bakery is right next door.
This place should be in a list of must-visit. Besides well done traditional French food, Chez lulu is worth visiting for the authentic decor alone. Believe it or not, vegetarian dishes can be done well and make you want to come to this place again and again and order more tasty quiches, soups, stuffed peppers or just a Mediterranean starter plate. Also, don’t forget to stop at the next door bakery and bring home a real wild east sourdough bread. You will need to spend a lot of time in France to find matching quality tasty loaf of bread. Having breakfast, lunch or dinner in this place is always a treat.
Unique quality food
Delicious food! Slightly pricy, but still great!
Made a delivery here. Nice people.
Cute unique restaurant with local feeling!
Pros: Great atmosphere, quiet enough to carry on a conversation, accomodating/friendly staff. Fantastic garlic soup, very nice Mediterranean appetizer platter. Cons: Very slow service. Uneven food quality (pot du créme thick and stiff, not creamy. A couple of rotten grapes in a salad). Would give 3.5 stars if could but definitely not four.
Great breakfast
Very small portions. Great atmosphere, tasty food, great service
Delicious food, lovely people. One of Birmingham's best.
Always changing brunch menu. Get there before 11 to avoid the church rush
One of my favorite spots. Excellent food! Fantastic bartenders who make the best drinks!!
Delicious! Perfect Sunday evening ..sidewalk table...friendly efficient service...good food from start to finish.
Great food, great atmosphere, great service!
Be patient when it's crowded.
Good food but no artichokes in the artichoke quiche. I ate it anyway. Enjoyed the bread pudding. Service was fine.
Good food, but the plates are very tiny. Good for a quick early lunch or lighter meal stop.
A healthy eating lunch place. The bar is pretty cool
I drive from Atlanta just to eat here.
One of my favorite spots for food that is always delicious. It was a busy time so a bit chaotic but worth sitting through for the excellent meal.
Wonderful dessert and drinks!
while the manager was very nice helping us find a good table as we were with my 90 year old mother who has mobility problems and the food was good, the service was extremely poor. we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes after ordering to get our meals. it was the day before mother's day so we expected it would be busy but this was just very bad service. during this time, the staff essentially ignored our table. we were told by the manager there was a large party there for lunch and that was why we had to wait so long. it was obvious they were very understaffed and that the kitchen was overwhelmed. to make matters worse, when we finally got our soup order [after 1 hour] it wasn't what we ordered and it took getting it again and sending it back twice before it was right. because of all this the manager did not charge us for our lunch which was a nice gesture. however, we wont go back again.
Cute place, great food and great service
Good food. AWFUL servers
Fun quirky neighborhood restaurant.
One of the best salads I've had around Birmingham. Great service. Please do go if you have the opportunity.
Great food, great dessert, great drinks.
Really really cool spot if you want to spend $90 on two pizzas and a bottle of wine. And 45 min for pizza at 5.15pm on a Sunday. So much potential to be incredible
A nice, slightly quirky place for a reasonable lunch or dinner. Sit outside on a nice day.
Very cute
Outstanding
Great casual lunch or dinner spot. I like the garlic soup.
(Translated by Google) Very nice atmosphere. (Original) Sehr schönes Ambiente.
Great atmosphere and food
Great cozy restaurant with great service. Really enjoyed their chicken salad sandwich. Also, their bakery next door is awesome.
Loved having brunch here! It was a warm spring morning so we sat outside which was lovely. The service is friendly and the food tasted wonderful. Lots to choose from but be sure to try the crepes - the best one being the blueberry with cheese. It was just the right amount of sweet, savory and creamy. I definitely look forward to eating here again soon.
Food was unique and delicious. However our server didn't seem to think we were a priority and it seemed we were a bit of an afterthought for her. However overall it was good and I'd certainly come again when in the area.
I think this is one of the best restaurants in the city. Fresh, tasty, beatification made food. Be sure to visit the Continental Bakery next store to pick up some of the excellent break you just enjoyed at Chez Lulu.
Cozy and delightful!
I sat at the bar and had the salad trio. It was delicious! My bartender, Kevin, was super helpful, knowledgeable and kind! The decor is eclectic and cool and the atmosphere was very inviting. 10 out of 10 would return. Maybe on my next visit it will not be raging so I can try their lovely patio area!
First time, after years of wanting to try. Loved the food and the drinks were divine.
Tucked in a little corner, next to a bakery that's smells are quite heavenly is Chez Lulu. I had a lamb sausage that was juicy and very pleasing to my pallet. My dining companion had a goat cheese, pear, and walnut sandwich on house made sourdough bread. She cannot stop herself from ordering it anytime she is there. This place is definitely worth a stop, not to mention the bakery next door.
One of my favorite places to go. Great food and wonderful atmosphere. They also have a lovely staff.
Very warm atmosphere. Small and intimate. Enjoyed the salad sampler.
Beautiful and delicious every single time.
Slow service, great good and atmosphere.
If you cannot decide what to order, I recommend a scoop of Tarragon Chicken Salad with a beet salad in the summer. In cooler months, any one of their incredible pizzas.
Very quaint, almost Persian feeling cafe right on the edge of downtown Birmingham, in English village. Every ingredient I tasted was so fresh, and it truly showed. Go, I cannot recommend enough
Fantastic food fantastic service and fantastic atmosphere. We ordered two dishes and split both of them and loved them. We went with the kids and the kids really enjoyed their three-course kids meal as well :-)
Cutest little restaurant ever. As my husband would say it's a 'chic' place. Delicious fruit and cheese plates, quiche and other small bites. Outdoor seating and cozy indoor seating. Small place... Can get crowded. They also have a bar inside.
This place is so cute! And the food was delicious. I enjoyed being there very much. I met the owner as well as the general manager- and they are wonderful humans. Great place to eat!
Best
Great food and even better service. A must go to in English Village.
Delicious food in a warm cozy atmosphere. Not really good for groups though we have been accommodated before. It gets a little noisy at times with people talking and the food is expensive but it’s a great value for its quality. Service has always been excellent. All in all a great date night spot.
Romantic and fun.
The food was really good and the staff was fantastic, helpful and patient.
Great menu, amazing cocktails, good wine list and fresh baked goods
Love the food here but our table of 5 waited far too long for simple soup and sandwiches on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Always good puzzas, soups, and sandwiches. Outdoor dining is a treat with the right weather.
Fantastic food, atmosphere, and service. As a francophile, I have been going there for years and I've never been disappointed.
Great pizza and salads with nice outdoor seating.
Amazing food. Horrible service. Will return still.
They wanted me to seat at a tiny table while bigger tables were available. Had to leave because it was too uncomfortable. Place look nice though.
Love this little gem in English Village. So much charm. Food and people are great!
quaint place. good food and service.
Delightful, simply delightful, then straight to the gardens :)
Awesome for lunch
Wow! Wow! Wow! I did not expect such am amazing place in Birmingham! Perfect cappuccinos. The bread on they use is superb. Service was wonderful and prompt. The decor is beautifully abstract and classy. The atmosphere is great for couples or friends. I can't believe that something s simple as a goat cheese sandwich was so incredible. I will definitely stop again when I drive through Birmingham! Also, reasonably-priced.
Great place, great food!
Excellent food and very attentive staff. The aesthetic is very nice, and it might be the best soup I've ever had. Wonderful deserts as well.
Good Pizza!
Nice, calm, quaint environment with good service. If you're looking for a quiet night out, that's the place to go.
Absolutley love this place. The atmosphere, service and food are all superb. Thank you Amy for being the best bartender and caring enough to make my sidecar and my evening special.
Sometimes, especially in the summer, all one wants is a slice of quiche or tart and a salad and this will fill that need nicely. This is a institution in these parts. When it gets cooler be sure to try their rotating soup selection.
Nice quiet place to eat local grown food. French cuisine. Full bar. Food was excellent.
Amazing little bistro...felt like I was in Paris!! Food was fresh, clean, simple, and delicious. Service was spot on too.
Really enjoyed my experience, but was a little disappointed with the price and how small and cramped you'll be sitting next to each other... wasn't prepared for that. It was still a unique dining experience, food was good and I love the bakery next door. Great service! If the weather is nice definitely sit outside.
J'ai l'adore. Le propriétaire est très sympathique, et les aliments ont été formidables. C'est un de des meilleurs restaurants à Birmingham.
Best French toast and cheddar grits I've ever had. Tables are small so ur constantly adjusting ur plates and cups other than that annoyance cool spot to eat at
This place is great! It's such an awesome and cool dining experience in Mountain Brook's East Village! My 7 yr old even loved it :) they have something on the menu for everyone and our server, Ashley, was amazing!! I would ask for her Everytime! she was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed :) food came out quickly and was the best quality and portions! I recommend everyone try this place!
Great place for a girl's lunch!
Down to earth folks! Very kind and great products
Cozy, stylish atmosphere like no other in our region, food and service always excellent, professional, and welcoming, healthy and locally sourced
Really good soup. Great bread from bakery next door. Small, quaint place to meet.
Pizza and dessert was amazing!!!
Wonder European like setting, very romantic. Garlic soup and sandwich’s are good. Ideal for a lunch or dinner date followed by coffee at the bakery next door.
Amazing French culinary experience in a small Birmingham community
I went after mass with friends it was great!!
Went here with our family and had an excellent time. We chose to sit outside in the patio area and the atmosphere was very family friendly. Food was light and excellent and had a French feel to it. We waited a little longer for our food but they seemed to have an abundance of large parties the afternoon we dined there. Will definitely stop in again when we're in the area.
Love this little French restraunt
This is the most authentic French cuisine in town. Everything is made from scratch. It's cozy and blessedly small, yet it's companion kitchen next door, Continental Bakery, does a monster take out business. Tonight I had the "doba" beef stew preceded by an arugula and chicken salad with amazing red wine vinegarette and (naturally) excellent homemade breads fresh from the oven. The wine and service were excellent. Go early if you don't have time to wait. The sidewalk cafe tables in this upscale neighborhood are taken first this time of year, but inside has twice as many and a cozy bar manned by the manager, Kevin, who makes killer craft cocktails.
Nice atmosphere and reasonably priced dishes.
Great ambiance and decor! Cocktails and food were delicious. Dessert was unexpectedly underwhelming though.
Great food, rude server. I've been to Chez Lulu multiple times for dinner, breakfast, brunch, etc. Usually, it's great. Food is very fresh and very unique. The last time I was there, I went with a party of six others. When we arrived, waters were waiting on the table. I grabbed a water and started drinking it as soon as I sat down. Later, when another member of our party sat down, I realized I'd mistakenly taken his water. The waiter was standing right there and I told him we'd need another water. He looked highly annoyed and said, "So you drank his water?" I was shocked. I said "Are you serious?" and he huffily walked down to the end of the table to get a full glass of water sitting there. Our whole party just stared at him, not believing how offended he was over that. He was condescending toward us during the entire meal (and we aren't teenagers or obnoxious- we're a group of adults). He made our dining experience unpleasant, even though the food was delicious. I won't be back.
Wondeful food and atmosphere !
Chez Lulu is seriously one of my favorite restaurants in Birmingham. It's the perfect little french cafe -- incredibly charming with great seating inside and out. It's best for small groups, but for big groups or parties they'll rent out the back room (or a table in the back room), and that's also lovely. I most often visit for a light lunch -- their sandwiches, soups and salads are made with fresh ingredients and have a wonderful balance of flavors, and it's a really nice place for a quick lunch (or a lingering lunch with a glass or two of wine). Their pastries are made next door at the stellar Continental Bakery, and they have a full espresso bar as well. The brunch here is also fantastic. I love their crepes and their grits are so good that my sister and I sometimes order them for "dessert" as well as with the meal. Chez Lulu is just charming and fantastic! Try it!
I think Chez Lulu is one of Birmingham's best kept secrets. The food is amazing, and the service is always great. I keep going back because of how consistent they are at surprising me. Also, I love stopping in to Continental Bakery next door on my way out to get snack for later. The restaurant and bakery are owned and operated by the same wonderful folks.
Very good, interesting, fresh menu. Even my 3 year old approved.
Great atmosphere, excellent food.
THEY EVEN PLAYED FRENCH MUSIC
Good food and service
Cute place and the pizza was really good but I didn't care for the turtle sundae with Belgian chocolate brownie.
Nice people, generally uninteresting food. If you're in this strip mall and hungry, it's safe (and it's attached to a nice bakery owned by them). Next!
Great food and great atmosphere. A Birmingham treasure.
The lamb sausage sandwich, and goat cheese pear sandwiches were great! Looking forward to trying new things on the menu in the future!
Probably the only place in Birmingham that would make you feel like you're in Paris. Love the food, service and ambience.
The food was pretty good good but the menu was very limited. We were already for pizza but we were told that they don't start serving it till 5. That should have been on the menu..
What an experience! Incredible food and an ambiance that can't be beat. It's nothing short of magical. For this Francophile, it was the next best thing to being back in Paris. Magnifique!
Good food and great atmosphere. Service very good. Enjoyed. Will be back.
Amazing food. The garlic soup is incredible. For dessert I had the pot de crème which was fantastic. Next door is the continental bakery which has most of the desserts plus fresh breads.
