Bob Gibson’s is my go to when in Decatur. Excited for the family to be with me today to give them a taste of this greatness. The potatoes are huge. The meat is delicious! The sides are one of a kind. You can’t go wrong with anything you order here.

Hands down some of the BEST bar-b-q in North Alabama. Everything is cooked to perfection. No wonder they've been voted best bar-b-q multiple years in a row. Very quick, great service. Never had a bad experience here. If you're in the area definitely check them out. It's well worth it!

To be quite honest, as much as Ive heard people rant and rave about this place I was greatly disappointed. The food quality was nothing to brag about, especially the slaw served on the bbq sandwich (yuck). On the other hand it was a comfortable setting and a friendly staff so even though I will not be going back the experience wasnt a total disaster.

Have gone twice and while the food was decent, the service has left a lot to be desired. Two different waitresses, same issues getting their attention. Seems like they were trying to cover to many tables. Food on the last one did not come out as ordered.

I'm not from here but have tried the sauce and drove to try the real deal.I will say I was disappointed the chicken quarter was smoked great and tasted great but had to be a bantam as it was tiny.If your not into sweet sides tough luck all of them tasted like they had sugar in them.I am from the deeeep south and have never had a sweet green bean.

Gibson BBQ has been a legend my whole life. Growing up in Decatur meant always having the very best BBQ right near by. Their chocolate pie still taste like mom use to make. The Brunswick stew is hands down the best you'll find anywhere on the planet. I love the white sauce and especially the vinegar based HOT sauce on my pork sandwiches with slaw!! I stop by for a snack most every time I'm over that way. Somethings never change and can't be beat.

Stopped by while traveling through town to take a pound of bbq to my mother who grew up in Decatur. Whitt’s is closed on Sunday, so the usual was not an option. Big Bob’s isn’t far behind and is open on Sundays, so we stopped by. We got there 20 minutes after they “opened” only to be told that they couldn’t sell anything because the manager had not made it in yet. The cashier added that they did not know when the manager would be in. Big Bob’s is fading fast.

I only ate in once, and ordered just a chicken salad. The bowl used was like a clear big glass candy bowl. The iceberg lettuce was a huge plain heap filled to the top. Then there was a very small amount of toppings that were not appetizing. The chicken was like deli meat chunks. I just assumed the proportion of topping to salad would have been correct and the chicken would be fresh. I had to take out half the salad from the bowl and throw it away in order to eat anything “chicken salad”. Not to mentioned it felt like my husband and I were not welcomed to eat inside.

I’m not sure about their 6th Ave location but the one on Danville Rd is terrible. I tried it twice and each time I was served a pile of fat. Ordered the BBQ beef potato and both times it was nothing but chopped up fat. Very unappetizing and will not be going back.

Can't argue with good BBQ. Had Ribs, Pulled Pork, Slaw, and Mac N Cheese. Delicious! On the way out I picked up some rub for grillin at home. Laid back atmosphere. I went at lunch time, it was busy but the service was quick and friendly.

Ate here on 9/14/19. 11:30am. I'll say before I start. That I smoke my own meats at home all kinds. That being said, we only stopped by here because of an event we attended In decatur. So the review! The hostess sat someone behind us first. Rude. Then the waitress was highly favoring the medium group behind our table. And the wait for food was easily 25min. The food, wife had pork n white meat chicken. I ordered pork and brisket. The ONLY thing we ate that was actually from smoker to table was her chicken, (amazing chicken 5stars). However the brisket was thick cut cold and dry. The pork was the same. 40$ very disappointed. Will never return or recommend.

Have been wanting to eat here for years. It was good barbecue and the sauce is good. My friend and I split the pork and chicken sandwich. Like the white sauce for a change of pace and the slaw was very tasty. It was a great day for an outing and a wonderful lunch.

Big Bob's BBQ is unmatched. If your in the Decatur Alabama area you owe it to yourself to stop and get some amazing food. The atmosphere is laid back and old school like stepping back a number of years when you would go out with your family and kids on a Saturday night. Also, get the peanut butter pie. Just don't put it on your head cause your tongue will beat your brains out trying to get to it.

I must say I loved this place. The white sauce was good but the ribs were even better. My son had a baked potato filled with bacon.. He still is talking about it after a few months of being there. The wait staff were very friendly and they sell bottles of bbq sauce to go.. Yes they even sell the white sauce to go. Loved the decor as well as their neon light out front. This place is a must for any bbq fan.

I am at about a 3.5 stars for them. I've been here a few times and each time I keep hoping for some of the BBQ that wins them these competitions, but I just dont see it. In my opinion the BBQ is just ok; red sauce is just ok, white sauce is good, and vinegar sauce is not bad. The Smoked Turkey is the best I've ever had, albeit I don't go to BBQ joints for Turkey, however I saw them on food network (Best Thing Ate?) for their Turkey so thought I'd try it and this is the 2nd time I've had it. Pork is ok, Brisket is ok, Ribs were one of the best meats tried with good tenderness and flavor, but would be better with another type of red sauce in my opinion. Kids plates were good size. My two 5 year olds and 12 year old had the chicken, which I didn't try, and ate every bit of it. My 11 year old had the ribs and enjoyed them. Will probably be back next year if we make it to Decatur again, but would try another joint there if someone recommended it.

The nachos, greens, Mac & chz, and pulled chicken sandwich was very good. I also enjoyed the sweet tea & slaw. The green beans & baked beans were average. I was disappointed in the chocolate pie. The crust was good but the chocolate pie portion tasted like chocolate pudding. I didn’t care for thick layer of whipped topping. The bbq sauces were very good. Our waitress was excellent. I will definitely return.

Before last weekend the last time I ate here was 1997. And it was awesome. Then the potato was served on a platter because it was so big and was overflowing with meat and cheese. Now the potato is served on a normal plate about the size of other BBQ places potatoes and had a small amount t of meat in it. My wife had the chicken and it was rubbery from being over cooked or warmed in a microwave. Size reminded me of a Cornish hen. So I’m not sure what’s happened in the interim of my trips here but they have gone way downhill. Will not go back.

The meats here melt in your mouth. Nothing is overcooked or bland. The greens are right up their with my grandmother's recipe. The baked beans don't disappoint either. Make sure you taste their white sauce, you will want to take some home. The small sampler platter includes 2 meats, 2 sides and rolls for $11 and it's so worth it. Do yourself a favor and try this place. You will be glad you did.

The brisket was cold tough,fatty and no flavor.the chicken was so dry all the factory bottled white sauce couldn't wash it down..the service took forever, couldn't even keep tea in our glasses..it must have been 80 degrees in the restaurant and a customer had a barking dog inside the restaurant. Went out of our way a little to visit one of the oldest established BBQ joints in the US, with a pedigree of wins on the circuit that runs deep. The chicken was bomb, like next level easily the best smoked chicken I have had - and the white sauce is the perfect accompaniment. Chopped pork was good, ribs also quite good but the brisket fell flat for me (maybe it was showing up at 3pm and getting some older slices, it was a touch dry, the connective tissue has re-established itself and it didn't give with a pull so ate a little tough). Overall the meat, given we tried multiple cuts, is a solid 3.5-4 with the chicken blowing everything out of the water (and this is from someone who goes for pig and brisket almost to exclusion when I eat bbq, but to not try their chicken here would be a big miss I think - it's historic for a reason). Service was southern and friendly. Pecan pie was so effin tasty, lemon pie was alright (kinda too sweet for lemon pie). I go back and forth between 3 or 4 stars, but chicken with Alabama white sauce was so good I'll give it a full 4. Worth the trip!!!

I worked at this place, and grew up eating the pork skins, with slaw and white bread, the stand was located on hwy 20 then, and those skins with the slaw and a sprinkle of the red sauce pow pure magic for your taste buds. The old school family feel of the restaurant the togetherness of seeing a familiar face and long conversations called catch ups over coffee and a slice of pie, home town magic served up with a smile. We made the drive from New York grabbing barbecue at all the necessary spots with the big finish being Big Bob Gibson's. This place is steeped in legend and it was an honor having a chicken sandwich with the white sauce in these halls, the real kicker was how terrific the pecan pie was though. A staple in Alabama, I never miss a chance to come to Big Bob's when I come visit family in Decatur. The brisket melts in your mouth and the pulled pork is fantastic. Pork, chicken, and turkey smoked low and slow! The meat is good enough to eat without a sauce, which is tough, because they have multi-award winning sauces too! The white sauce is a super regional condiment, which is heartbreaking when you have to move away from the area. Luckily they ship their deliciousness! Make sure to have a big fluffy slice of coconut pie before you go. 12/10 for taste and overall experience. Best dadgum BBQ anywhere in the world!

When we travel, I love to check out the ‘best’ bbq restaurants. Today was Big Bob Gibson Bar-bQue, ranked #26 in the south by Southern Living. It was really good too! Ribs are perfectly cooked! The slaw was not my favorite, but the beef brisket sandwich was good! The coconut pie was the best! So all in all- worth the 8 mile detour to get there for lunch.

This place is tradition. My best friend and I go here for every birthday, holiday, hangout day or Tuesday. The food here is so freaking good. I get the spare ribs every time and they never fail. The flavors are exactly what you want from southern BBQ. The peanut butter pie is also fantastic, I mean it when I say save room for the pie. It's worth the drive from Nashville every time.

The ribs were mostly fat and our server was not very attentive or quick to attend tables. She was busy with other work but customers had to wait for her. To the staff's credit when we were leaving the gentleman who took our money offered to cut us a new set of ribs and personally insure they were lean, by this point I was tired and had a head ache from the noise we opted to just go but I did appreciate the offer this visit aside Gibson is a great BBQ stop and recommend if you get the chance

I came in with high expectations and was still blown away. I ordered the combo plate with pulled pork, chicken, beans, and Mac and cheese. The meats were cooked exceptionally well, delicious when combined with their signature red and white sauces. The sides were also exceptional, creamy, cheesy and beans that weren't too sweet. In Huntsville for the weekend and this place has been on my BBQ bucket list for a while. I was there with my wife so we split the menu and went to town. Smoked turkey was fantastic, ribs were good , brisket was dry, and I was just disappointed in the chicken. Skin was soggy but the meat was flavorful. The sides were great with the Mac and Cheese and Greens being the best. The real winner was the Alabama White Sauce and Red BBQ sauce. So much so we took a bottle of each with us. We did have desert and I was impressed with the pecan pie. The peanut butter pie was different. It was a custard pie with a layer of peanut butter and topped with meringue. Just know what you are getting into before you order it. If you are in the area or making a run down I-65 it is worth making the detour to Decatur to enjoy.

This is delicious bbq! I highly recommend getting a bottle of the white sauce to take home because you will want to put it on you good at home too! They have a drive thru, which is unusual for a BBQ restaurant. The bbq chicken was very tasty and the staff was nice.

They are always out of food, like almost everything is gone except chicken. And even though the one on 6th Ave has sit down service instead of counter service like at the one on Danville, they have so few servers, it may as well be counter service. They are nice though and the food is alright, or at least what is left of it when you are there. They tell you to come early, before stuff runs out, but I have to work till 6, there should still be enough food for your customers if you are going to be open.

No reason not to go here for the best chicken that can be had. The White Sauce is legendary.

The food was okay but the service was downright RUDE. We placed an order for Carry-Out, and the cashier, "Misty" had the NASTIEST attitude! If it wasn't for the fact that my 86 year old grandmother asked us to get her food from this specific restaurant, I would've taken my business elsewhere, the first time MISTY rolled her eyes at us. Adding insult to injury, as I was checking the to-go bag, I mentioned that we also ordered a large tea. MS. MISTY snarled, "I'll get you your tea!" and proceeded to haphazardly fill the cup with ice and tea. I hate saying this was about race but we are in Alabama and I've spent enough time around Racists and Bigots to know when my presence isn't welcomed in an establishment and that is certainly the vibe I got from MISTY. I will NEVER be back!!

While staying overnight in Decatur, we were looking for a place to eat. We checked around and had found that Big Bob Gibson's Bar-B-Que was well known and award winning. Having a taste for some barbecue, we decided to give it a try. We weren’t disappointed. My wife had the 4-bone portion of the St. Louis style ribs with a couple of sides. I had a combo plate which included 4 ribs and an additional meat; I chose the smoked brisket. For sides I had coleslaw and mac and cheese. Both of our portions were as much as we could eat. The ribs were delicious. They were served dry with sauces available at each table. A specialty of Big Bob’s is the mayonnaise-based white BBQ sauce. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and nicely smoked as was the brisket. The coleslaw was Southern style (sweet & sour); it had a hint of horseradish. The mac and cheese was very creamy. Note that Big Bob’s is a family restaurant and does not serve alcoholic beverages or drinks. All-in-all it was a very good barbecue restaurant and I’d recommend it to others.

What a great BBQ place! Their food and service are excellent. This is one of my favorite places to get beef brisket. Their BBQ pork potatoes are out of this world. Especially if you request to get the bark on the BBQ!

Drove over 2 hours to get to this place and I must say it was good! The white sauce was amazing. Be sure to get the variety plate in order to try little of everything. Be sure to use the white sauce!

My first visit and I will definitely be returning. I had the BBQ baked potato with pork and it was AWESOME!! Also got some smoked wings (no sauce) and they were out of this world!! I'll be getting some of those award winning ribs next time.

Best in the country. This is an overused and abused term-BUT NOT HERE. When you enter you're greeted with and entrance littered with years of Grand champion awards. I love BBQ and have been around it most of my life. Big Bob's was always referenced. Simple put they are worth the visit. You seat yourself. This has the aire of a country kitchen and they feel of home with the smell off smoke lightly wafting around. My son said it best when he said-Le's go back to the fall of the bone meat place.

My wife had never been to Big Bob Gibson's so while were in the area we decided to mark it off the BBQ bucket list. She enjoyed the famous white sauce on the chicken and the pork. The brisket was well seasoned but a little on the tough side. The ribs were the table favorite and the chicken was a close second. Service was fast an efficient, though not being able to pay at the table did cause a bit of a log jam at the front register.

We drove over three hours to get here. We tried all the meats. The best was the brisket. Next the ribs. Pulled pork was ok. The white FAMOUS chicken wasn't all that impressive. The Turkey not even worth talking about. Sides we tried were baked beans, slaw, mac-n-cheese, green beans. They were ok, but nothing had a wow factor. We had the peanut butter pie and chocolate pie. Again just ok.

I know everyone talks about their BBQ. I want ppl to know their stuffed potato is also very, very good. But have to get there early in the day to get one. They only make so many and won't make more.

It's crazy to see Alabama white BBQ sauce popping up everywhere now after growing up having this place in my neighborhood. Definitely worth a visit. I recently returned for the first time in years and the quality has remained the same! :)

Drove 1 hr glad we did. Best BBQ we’ve ever had!! I had 1/2 chicken platter w/ mac&cheese, baked beans, sweet tea & pecan pie. The wife had pulled pork platter w/ potato salad, French fries, sweet tea & chocolate pie. Everything was excellent. The service was great! The only thing we didn’t like was the Alabama White Sauce! Nothing fancy, and everyone has their own biases about bbq, but everyone will be happy when you stop here. Potato is HUGE and loaded with butter. Ribs are very large and meaty... family of four still walked out for less than $40 including tip. This place lives up to the hype.
