I had spent a couple of days on vacation with my spouse in NJ & NY with cost for taxi fare mounting. Metuchen Rent-A-Car provided the solution we needed to get around. Their staff was very courteous, the rental was affordable with basic terms and conditions, the Honda Civic was in good shape. I will certainly patronize them again.

Do not do business with this Steve Southern at Metuchen Car Rental. He charged my credit card extra fees without my authorization 3 days after the car was returned and inspected for any damage. When I went to the office to dispute the charges, I was met with vulgar hostility and screamed at with profanity and he proceeded to call me vulgar names. When I left the office, he then followed me out and proceeded to continue a verbal assault.

Have rented from here for many years. I've always had an easy time and like the cars. Everyone is simple and casual to deal with. Much better than renting from a large company with tons of fees and lines!

Called STEVE on Wed to find available cars for a ONE day rental -in state- to a location half hour away for Fri. Told him we only needed it to take my son to an appointment to visit a new school that accepts young adults w/disabilities (autistic spectrum). Steve said he only had a van that was to be rented to someone else for Sat and wld need us to return it same day before closing at 5pm. He also said we needed $250 as a "hold" and license and ins card. We told him we would pick up around 10-10:30am. Steve agreed. Fri morning I woke up sick and called Steve to tell him we were running late but would still pick up van...he said ok. We arrived at 11am and were told by Steve that he changed his mind. We begged him not to do that to us because we had an appt at 11:30. He ranted about something tgat happened with his rental tgr night before and that he got stuck til 1 am retrieving one of his rentals-- we said we were sorry to hear that, but what did that have to do with us? Steve said that since we were late to pick up van, he didn't believe that we would return it in time and he didnt want to risk it. We assured him we would bring it back because school closes at 2:30 /3pm and it was half hr away so there was no reason to NOT return it by 5pm. Steve said "you can talk til you're blue in the face...I made up my mind and I'm not doing it cause ee may take it fir the entire Holiday weekend". We told him that we don't even celebrate Holidays. He would not listen and left us hanging Last Minute! We were so in shock. We asked him did his distrust have to do with our race because nothing else made sense -- since we had the $250 on the card and ins and license and proof of address in metuchen. Steve yelled and ordered us to leave. We then attempted to drive my car (which was running on only 3 cylinders instead of 4) we broke down midway and never made our son's appt. Would this treatment have happened to us if we were white???....I think NOT. Very BAD business --SHAME!!!

Great prices, especially for long term rentals Cars availability is a little low. have to make reservations in advance. Roadside assistance is not available during off hours since it seems like a small operation.
