I rented a brand new car Kia Forte for a great price and good amount of mileage. The service was amazing, David who was so helpful when I walked into the store. I got the car in 15 mins and I was on the road immediately. The car gave a great mileage and I thought i was going to spend a lot of money on gasoline but, I just filled up my tank 4 times to Canada. Am sure I will go back there again.

*Update... This is a place where you should be able to review a business respectfully and without retaliation in bashing or insult from the owner. My orig post was not in no way shape or form derogatory towards the company nor to an individual. I even went as far to admit my own mistakes in what led up to the issue. However the establishment felt neccasary to retort in the mannor that they did. A more respectable establishment would have responded in a more professional way. But as you continue to read the reviews look at the patterns and make your own decisions. The "discount" given was well under $100 so my total was still over $200 more than the expected end price. The establishment can never be the victim. Better off going to a larger rental chain. They dont offer unlimited miles (unless u ask for it) and they are far too overpriced. I'll take ownership for not asking the "right questions" when the guy was explaining the contract due to my situation and being in a hurry but i would never have rented a nissan sentra for 5 days if i had any inclination it was going to cost me $788. Fool me once sir, shame on me. I hope to stop them from fooling you too.

I Was looking for car rental option on my probationary incense. Major car rental denied the option and econo car allowed me take car on rent. They provide good service with somewhat higher cost, that wasn't big deal for me. Not 5 star as there is a limitation on full insurance coverage.

Last minute I needed to rent a car for the weekend and any where in JC I looked the prices were outrageous. When I contacted econo they gave me a great price for the weekend. They were very professional and extremely friendly. They even worked with me when I told them I wouldnt be able to pick up the vehicle until after they closed. They worked with me and assured me it wouldnt be a problem. The car was extremely clean and well taken care of. No issues whats so ever while driving it. I am definitely going to use Econo- car anytime I need a rental from now on! Thank you Dave and Jeff for everything!

I was disappointed with the service I received from the owner, David Kramer. I rented a car to travel to/ from North Carolina. On my return back to NYC my rental received a boot for outstanding traffic tickets, I was unaware of. These tickets were outstanding since June 2018 and weren't taken care of. I had to go out of my way to get the boot off and then drop it off at a dmv boot agency location. When we returned return the car to the rental place, David interrogated my boyfriend and I , asking questions the same questions over and over as if it was our fault and ad if he didn't know their were outstanding tickets. David is very rude, obnoxious and try's to overtalk his customers. That's a person who knows he's in the wrong. He said that he took care of those tickets and their shouldn't have of been a problem. Anyone knows who live in the city that if you don't pay tickets they send you reminders, apparently, he didn't receive any. He really doesn't listen to his customers. We had to pay for the full rental even though we didn't have it for a week. Overall don't rent from this company especially when the owner doesn't accommodate their customers when they're the ones in the wrong!!!! This is in reply to the owner: (also you can't reply to the replier) First, David you were rude!! Who interrogates their customers when they were in the wrong? Who yells over the customer when they're trying to answer the same questions, "is this the receipt your received when you returned the boot? what time was the boot put on the rental? Did you try calling us" To claim YOU didn't understand over and over and needed a better understanding, is unacceptable. Who tells their customer they can't accommodate a customer, if it's the rental company's fault? Who tells their customer, I can't accommodate you today but if you come back to do another rental they will make sure service is better!! Second, the boot was placed on the car at 4:32am! Third, I wasn't in a bind. The conversation I had received before the rental was totally different from when I returned it. Their was no accommodations, I hade to pay out $850 to rent a car that was "hot" with tickets that should of been paid prior to my rental. You had prior knowledge that these tickets weren't paid and should of NEVER rented out the car to another customer! David it's quite sad that you would take the time out to justify you're wrong!!!!

Flew into town, found Econo-Car Rental, best company I've dealt within the rental company. David and Jeff treated me great, fixed me up with a great vehicle, excellent service and would highly recommend them to all my Canadian friends.

Dave the owner spent HALF AN HOUR working phones to help me avoid the extra insurance fee, doggedly trying to confirm that my Amex card covered rental liability. My own card company person said it didn't, but he figured out that it did and saved me $140. This after not finding a single avail car in the tristate area for Thanksgiving. Oh! And he offered us a weekly rate which turned out to be less expensive than the daily rate for a few days. We were expecting to get hosed bc of the holidays but didn't. No wait, fast service. Beautiful new car. Family-owned biz which is wonderful. I'll be using EconoCar in the future instead of the biggies.

STAY AWAY!!! this company runs under two names, also known as Economy rent a car. I booked though an online vendor. When I looked up their address online I read all the bad reviews. I called ahead not to waste my time and was told they will honor the unlimited milage and vehicle I booked. Upon arrival long and behold just like all the other reviews state. They refuse to honor my booking. Wanted to up charge me for the milage and will not honor unlimited mileage. Worse case the jerk behind the desk had a smirk on his face as he got a thrill swindling customers. Ripoff !!!!

Best service. Clean car very nice selection good prices! Quick service. I had planned to rent through a popular rental agency but at the day of pickup they gave me such a hassle. Called econo and they helped me right away. 10-15 min in the office and got my rental. I def would recommend them and will be renting with them from now on!

Be AWARE of the Hidden charges. They literally rip you off with their limited miles cap. On their website, they advertise Unlimited miles. But it’s not the same story on the other side of the rainbow. Somewhere in a middle of the agreement somehow they manage to fit it this "limited miles" restriction that is only visible under a microscopic vision and most importantly they have hand written rental agreements Intentionally so that no one can understand them. They make sure they never bring up this "limited mileage restriction" during their conversation (Of course why would they when this has been their Golden goose aka cliché unethical business tactic to rip-off customer $$$). Please don’t be deceived with the positive reviews about this company (Was wondering how come a company with such horrible service has completely contrasting positive reviews...Read them carefully and you’ll find them fishy). While sharing my personal experience i discovered am not the lone victim of their ruthlessly immoral business etiquette; But there are many such similar cases like mine in the past which happened to surface while digging deep in to the matters. Only wish i had read this page earlier before visiting them. It is for the same reason am taking my time in sharing my experience and voicing my opinion about this rental place so that at least you folks can stay away from falling in to their trap in the future The ones who seem to say they have had a smooth transaction; I’m damn sure have never reached their bait catch point. Long story short Try to avoid this place in the first instance. If you have no other option but to go there; Then i would highly recommend you to have each and every thing in the agreement read out loud to you before you sign the paper work (Especially the limited miles catch). And lastly Don’t forget to ask if there is anything else you should know about the agreement which has not been spoken of before you sign it.

Totally agree with Betty and Ngoc below. The owner, David is the son of the original owner but does not have any of his father’s class or sense of customer service. I just called to book a car for the holiday weekend and the owner answered the phone. He couldn’t help but talk over me and has an incredibly condescending tone. When I called him out on having an attitude he responded by saying: “How am I having an attitude?” (Always a red flag when a business owner adopts a defensive tone with would be customers). Then when I told him I remembered how awful he was last time I called a couple years ago he responded by saying “Dude I’d rather sit with the fu@king car than rent it to you.” This guy’s a real class act. My advice to the owner is get out of the business because you clearly just don’t like people. My advice to any potential customer is STAY AWAY!!! There are plenty of other car rental places that offer comparable prices. Happy holidays all!

I rent from these guys pretty much on a bi-weekly basis. rates are straightforward and affordable, cars are always immaculately clean and all features work as they should. Also enjoy talking Sports to the owner and employees, really nice guys!

Easily rented a truck, but forget calling customer service is horrible, very inhospitable and lousy. Repeated myself politely several times, before getting information. Couldn't find my name in there records, so I had to spell it out and the customer service person had the gall to say he had an MBA and knew how to read, I did not need to know that, I asked for information about my previous rental and that is all I needed, all I was trying to do is help you find information by spelling my name. Turns out after he listed several the names, my name was there. He wasn't being thorough or probably too distracted to read the computer. Try being a little more humble and polite to customers.

I have rented cars here for ten+ years, maybe once a year, having lived in J.C. for many years and now Hoboken. The cars have always been in excellent shape. Pricing has been excellent, at least for weekly rentals (which is what I typically do), and best I've found. Location is very convenient if you can reasonably work journal square into your commute. The location seems to attract some wacky customers - this is not like an airport rental... People show up without credit cards, drivers licenses, etc. Staff is very good overall... Occasionally can be a little testy if car is dirty or you forget to tell them you need the car a few extra days, but I think that's a function of this being a small business and the people there caring about the place and the cars. I recommend this place.

The guys at Econocar are great, fast, and efficient. After a rental with Hertz fell through the morning we were supposed to leave my boyfriend Calvin R. and I went to Econocar and they got us in a car right away with minimal hassle. We had used them some months back to move into a house right around the corner. Glad we called in advance to ask about what papers we may need. It made the process go much faster and that imformation is not readily easy to find all the time. The car had great gas mileage and was very clean. The small office can get a little crowded but they work well to get everyone moving. Careful on busier days and holidays! Trying to get a car last minute is going to be next to impossible. Reserve Reserve Reserve!

Overpriced even when you buy their insurance and something goes wrong with their tires your responsible for it and he charges you at $89 fee to fix the tire on top of that there's no unlimited miles so you're responsible for all the mileage you do after a certain point unless this is your absolute Last Resort avoid at all cost

Spent only a couple of minutes making enquiries at this place, did not actually rent a car from here. But during my brief interaction, was a little taken aback by the rude and impatient manner of the person at the front desk, who I assume is the owner. And it didn't look like I was interrupting anything urgent with my enquiries either. I think it's safe to say I won't be going back there again.

This place has to be the worse rental company. My girl rented a car from here that was booted on the street side by my house from $1000.00 in unpaid tickets accrued by previous drivers summer 2018, its winter now 2019. The problem couldn't be solved until the next day. We had to take the boot off and return it ourselves at same being rushed to return the rental that was booted. The rental company didnt accommodate us for any inconveniences plus the Manager David Kramer was very nasty with us like he was doing us a favor for releasing the boot. He went back and fourth with us on how much time we lost on the rental, a receipt we presented to him from the boot company and whether or not its the rental company fault or not. Still had to pay full price for the rental. All and all DONT RENT HERE!!!!!!!! DONT RENT HERE!!!!!!!! DONT RENT HERE!!!!!!!! DONT RENT HERE!!!!!!!! Reply to owner response: I knew you would reply thats the only trap u fell for. Now if you look at my girlfriends response David made he is given inaccurate times and scenarios of the whole situation. To David: 1.this isnt the 1st time i see that your defending your horrible business so it shows your insecurities of your business. Real business owners dont waste time responding, they run their busines(lol 30years). 2. When I was there u seemed be singing a different tune. And 3. You can call me all kind of names and say i had agendas all i asked for was a to remove a day for inconvenience u couldnt even do that. I have no reason to set a trap for you, thats your own insecurities if your prepared for those situations. And look i love to text so i can do this all day long. Like i said DO NOT RENT

To be honest Dave and I started out on the wrong foot due to my lack of trust in people. I was being a difficult customer I have to admit but not purposely. He expressed exactly how he felt and I had to humble myself and trust the company I’d chose to do business with. All those looking at the good reviews posted.Go at your own Peril..The owner is one of the most rude persons I have ever come across in my entire life.he talks with a ton of attitude all the time.I have rented the car from him twice.First time,the one of the door locks was not working which I got to know midway on my trip.I called him about it and he blamed me for this.RIDICULOUS!! I dont know why the hell I thought to rent the car from him again after a few months,this time the car brake was making noise all the way through.I returned my car with 3/4th of the tank full and only 1/4 empty.He has charged me $39 for the gas ??????? And when I spoke to him he was ill-mannered,impolite,dicourteous at its peak. if anyone does not believe me,I wish you all the luck and go ahead and try renting it out yourself :)

I'd like to preface this by saying I was in need of a car rental, and this was the only car rental company that had available cars at the time. First off, these people are dishonest. I called them to get a quote for a van and then went to them ON THE SAME DAY to ask about the same van, and was given a different price (I forget what was the exact price, but it was significantly high enough to catch my attention). Eventhough I spoke to the same individual in person that I spoke to over the phone. They claimed that they never rent their vans for the said price. Also when I rented the car they gave me a 30 minutes grace period to return the car just like any car rental company. However, the owner called me and said I needed to return the car because they are busy. Guess what, I returned the car within my grace period and not only was the garage full with a spectrum of vehicles, but I did not see ANYBODY at the office trying to rent a car. Ok......strike one. Secondly, the customer service was garbage. I felt like I wasn't receiving the amount of respect I should have. I was interrupted a few times by the owner, that claimed that their vans never go for the price I was told over the phone. The tone of the owner was very condescending, which is very unprofessional. You would think that I was asking him for a big favor, and that I was being an inconvenience to him. Um, no I am paying you for service which was below mediocre to begin with; so to speak to me with that tone makes you and your establishment seem unprofessional. Strike two. Thirdly, the car's interior was filthy. Normally when you rent a car it is vaccummed, dusted, and even has a functioning air freshner. Yeah that was NOT the case with econocar. So, I'm paying you a huge chunk of cash, and in the end not only am i being LIED to and DISRESPECTED, but you give me a car that's not even clean? Strike three and you're out. Side note: The owner called me today saying that they haven't received a bad review in 2 years.......for the record, you have indeed received SEVEN bad reviews within a year alone, and that's just on Google reviews. I guess dishonesty is not a foreign concept at econocar. I don't recommend Econocar and I will NEVER rent from them again.

I normally refrain from posting negative reviews but I found David to be extremely condescending and rude that I am compelled to write this complaint. Instead of engaging with his clients in a civil manner, he choose to speak over me and made assumptions about what my questions were. He demonstrated neither patience nor any interpersonal acumen or intelligence. I will no longer be renting with them. I think Econo is better off hiring someone else.

I have used econocar for the past 5 years and I never had an issue with David the owner or any of his employees. Always accommodating, always willing to go the extra mile. I recommended econocar to my friends and family and ALL of them have been very happy with the service. I usually don't write reviews but when I saw the previous review (which seems totally out of order... why would you call again if your experience was so bad??!!), I therefore decided to write one and I am going to encourage my friends to do the same.
