REVIEWS OF Economy Rent A Car Fort Lauderdale IN Florida

Robert Castles

$10 extra per day when you bring your own insurance, because "deductible". Leaving the counter, the car is nearly twice as much as you originally agreed to. Wouldn't mind some laws for honesty in pricing. Unlike other rental companies, this car is low end. No Bluetooth for radio, which shows how featureless the cars are.

Adriana Rubio Real Estate

The company employees do no explain everything in detail the term of the rental car, how is this possible to say they are charging $9 for a 4 day rental and at the end they charge $50 just to sign the voucher additional to the initially online payment. On top of that they did not reimburse the $44 for pre-payment from Expedia. I review this company as the worst of the rental car industry simply because the do not have any type of customer service, they add charges that don’t make any sense and at the end they blame you for all this mess!!!! Employee affirmed that they explain everything upfront, however that was not the case at all. Unbelievable!!!!

cristian capraru

Classic bait and switch operation !!! Be aware of xtra charges at ticket counter Careful with insurance policies !!! If you are denying their , they still add a 4$/day fee !!!!

BIGGEST POS (piece of sh!t) CAR COMPANY EVER!!! DO NOT RENT HERE!! DON'T KNOW HOW THE EMPLOYEES HAVE THE FACE TO WORK THERE. THEY MUST BE JUST LIKE THE COMPANY, A POS! They offer amazing prices online to lure you in. Then when you have completed your trip, collected your baggage and have reached the car rental list, you notice they are not on it. That is when you find out they are off site (mind you I was flying alone with my baby). I proceeded with a positive mind set to the location, where the shuttle arrived about 10/15 mins later. The shuttle driver barely helped with my bags, talking about he had back pains ( ugh then you shouldn't be working in a position that requires heavy lifting, just saying). Thank God for an angel that was flying with her daughter that helped me out. Long story short, as all other reviews have mentioned it's the BS with the insurance, Florida license restrictions, FEES, FEES, FEES. Thank God I finally decided to GET THE HELL OUT!! Got on the shuttle again w my baby and went to ENTERPRISE ❤. Within 10/15 mins I was attended, rented and given my 2019 Camry. Ahhh felt good to vent, now I'm off to give ENTERPRISE the 5 stars they deserve.

DO NOT.. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE CROOKS.. Very unprofessional and rude. The experience was a disaster. Me and the agent talked about my trip as i was booking , i was telling him im going out of state but i didn't need a sunpass im taking 95.. So when i returned the car, i was charged an add'l $175 because he said he forgot to book unlimited miles. He explained to the manager (MARCELA) it was his fault. Her response was OH WELL I CAN NOT TAKE THE CHARGE OFF. She wouldnt take any calls from Me or the bank.

Bonnie Mcwilliams

The price was very reasonable!! The in and out to the car was quick!! Return was even quicker!! The plus was if a toll was added they did not gouge me!! Just a shady place to get back on 95

Coral Cabrera

I WOULD NEVER USE THEM AGAIN FOR ONE SIMPLE REASON, I HAD AN UNAUTHORIZED CHARGED, THEY SAID I RETURNED THE CAR A DAY LATE WHICH IS NOT TRUE, I WAS IN ANOTHER STATE THE DAY THEY ARE CLAIMING. AFTER DAYS I FINALLY SPOKE TO SOMEONE, THEY ASKED ME TO SEND PROOF AND I DID AND GUESS WHAT NO RESPONSE AFTER THAT EITHER. I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN I FOUND THEM BECAUSE THE PRICE WAS RIGHT BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE A RIP OFF! I WOULD NOT RECOMMAND THEM BECAUSE OF THERE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Mary Stivala

If I could give 0 stars I would. DO NOT RENT FOM THIS COMPANY! Unfortunately I did not read the reviews before renting this car or I would have NEVER used this company. They require a copy of the Declaration page of your auto insurance policy, which was clearly stated on the confirmation (my fault for not reading the fine print). I was able to reach my husband at 10pm and had him send me a copy of the Declaration page. I was then informed that I would incur an additional cost of $8/day to use my own insurance. Some nonsense about them submitting the claim, paying my deductible, loss of use, etc. I said I didn’t want this “coverage” and was informed that it was mandatory, but I could pay a CANCELLATION FEE and leave and not rent the car. Since their facility is located off-site in some sketchy warehouse area, I decided to pay the extra fees, with the intention of logging a complaint against them.

BEWARE if you pay with a debit card to reserve the car, they force you to pay $9.95 a day for a "partial damage waiver". Why do you call it a partial damage waiver if it is a fee for using a debit card? The woman told me that as long as there were no tickets/fines etc when I returned the car, I would get the money back in 6-8 weeks. I called and apparently this is their policy, and it is NOT refundable. So I was lied to and charged extra for using a debit card, masked as a "partial damage waiver". Not to mention I waited in line for over an hour, with only 2 people in front of me, to get the car. Furthermore if this is their "partial damage waiver" why did I need to provide my own insurance information? Absolutely ridiculous, plus it's off site from the airport. AVOID AT ALL COSTS SAVE YOURSELF $$$ AND HEADACHES AND LIES.

Mark odeen

I agree with another reviewer,DO NOT USE THIS AGENCY. When I booked my reservation through orbitz it appeared they were on the airport and in the terms on line they did not say they charged a fee for NOT using there insurance.. When I did not see them listed in the rental center directory I stepped outside just as there shuttle showed up. So I got in. At the counter I saw a sign saying you needed proof of insurance, I was 1st in line and told the person behind the counter I would step aside and download it. When I as back at the counter starting the rental he mentioned the FEE for using your own insurance, I asked how much, it was actually more than the cost of renting the car. I said no thanks and while on the way back to the airport I maid a reservation at Dollar which was only $40 more than the original price....but still $60 less than the price they wanted to charge me! Scammers stay away

Sincere Duncan Studios

BUYER BEWARE! NOT THE CHEAPEST RENTAL! Claims on the net say $9/day. Great online scam. Paid for 3rd party insurance online for $10/day. When you get to the counter it's actually a total of $47/day out the door! Economy car my a$$!! Will never rent here again

simon lamarre

Horrible !!!!!!! They charge EXCESSIVE FEES if you have your own insurance. My rental was 242$ us they charged me 195$ us more because I declined their insurance. NEVER AGAIN ECONOMY RENT A CAR

Morgan k

Would honestly not give any stars what so ever. This place is full of surprises and hidden fees. They make you feel obligated to elect in a sunpass which you really could do without and then they won’t refund you what so ever. Your better off going with another company who actually appreciates your business!!!!!!!!!! I don’t know how they are still operating seeing all these negative reviews. Run the opposite direction!!!

Candice W

I did not expect the extra $101 Floridian driver charge. I wish it was included in the quote. Also, my reservation was for unlimited miles but when I went to pick the car up it was a daily limit. Service was not good. I did not like the same day changes. I liked the office decor.

Lisa Highsmith

Cars was not the cleanest though prices are very good i was able to rent without a credit card without a deposite

Mike Meyer

Customer service isnt bad but the company model as a whole is designed to screw the customer over. They charge $8 for the rental but dont tell you about the $15 mandatory insurance Reply: I read that conditions and it isn't something supplied when I initially booked the car, if this is something required it should be initially billed when the car is priced. Every other car rental service allows this to be denied.. Not to mention the car I was given is beat to hell and is making all kinds of sound which is sign of mechanical failure. When I called the help center they told me the only thing I can do is called road side assistance.....which is a 45min wait.

Regina Ford

To the owners of Economy who are completely ignoring your consumer's grievances, moreover, price gouging your customers with ridiculous insurance fees is unethical. If you continue to deceive your customers...you will no longer have customers! Economy is robbing the customer blind without a weapon. You should just go right ahead and pick up a handgun, point it at their faces, and rob them instead! Your customers might feel less insulted. Change your business practices immediately. If you don't, your company will crumble like a wet cookie!

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! I have never had such a bad or difficult rental car experience in my life. First you think you are getting a great deal which brings you in, then they charge you for insurance on the car that you HAVE to have if you don't have a proof of insurance card. Not all states have those and they don't care. Then we get put in the most nasty and busted up car. It had stains all over it and it sounded like it was going to fall apart not to mentioned shook when on the high way. We had to exchange for another one it was so bad. Now, 4 months later, I am getting a charge for over $100. For what? I have no idea. They didn't send a break down or anything of it. So here I am waiting for an email (because they don't have a customer service phone number people can call - probably because of the non stop issues they have) so see what is going on. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT rent from this company. It may seem cheaper to start, but then it costs WAY more in the end once they are done scamming you for everything. Stick with the real rental cars at the airport as I have rented with Avis, Hertz, ect many time and never ever had any issues or costs like this.

Johnny Tugs

Great deals through the internet. As low as 6.00 a day. Bring your auto insurance declaration page. Good customer service!

Trona Wilson

This place is a scam!! I had a contract for a certain price and when I arrived they tried to gig me out of 200.00 more dollars. Then I ask them if I turn the car in early how do they prorate? He said you have to pay the full amount even if you don't use the car the full contract days. I made a scene and told them that is theft! You can not charge someone if they don't use your products or service!!!!!! BEWARE AND DON'T EVER DO BUSINESS WITH SCAM ARTISTS. THEY NEED A ZERO SO I WILL POST 1 STAR WHICH THEY DON'T DESERVE

Our Salty Life

We declined coverage during the reservation. Yet when we arrived, they proceeded to tell us that we had to pay a 53$ waiver fee to rent the car, but for 11$ a day we could get there insurance. (We have full coverage with a 250$ deductible) We only needed the car for a total of 4 days!!! WTF... This place is a huge scam, i even told the guy show me in writing... “nothing” I knew better then picking a cheap no name rental car company. Time lost, ohh well, NEVER AGAIN... Check different company’s for just a few dollars more we found a place with no hassle, and price as agreed...

Martyna Maczuga

My family had put a car on hold, and online it stated we’d pay around $250 for the week, which was fair. We called two days before pick up day, to confirm everything was ready and the same. It was, and we arrived a couple of days later to pick up the car. We ended up paying double for the week, and they never gave us a reason as to why. Spend over an hour at the rental spot, only for them to again just leave us with no reason. Do not recommend

Nakia Nelson

Juan roldan provided excellent service. He was very informative, kind and gave speedy service. I will come to Economy for all of my car rental needs.

patricia delorey

DO NOT USE THIS AGENCY. They require you produce your full insurance policy if you waiving their coverage. Then I was told that I didn't have enough insurance. They also make you use their Sunpass even though I have my own...this is how they make money and book low rate. Note, nothing in their booking contract specifically mentions any of this. Avoid this company at all costs. I plan on reporting them to the better business bureau as well as the Florida State Attorney Generals Office. This company should not be in business.

Michael S

Horrible experience. Booked an SUV 2 weeks ago and when I arrived before midnight was told no SUV but a smaller Nissan car. No heads up to inform me via email or phone call. The process to get to this agency is horrible too. A shuttle to the rental center at the airport, then another shuttle that fits about half the people waiting to another area outside the airport. Was given a $5 daily discount for difference between cars, another insult. Wasn't going to say no at midnight with 2 kids waiting. Last time I rent from Economy at this location.

Bryan Corazon

Rented a car through Orbits and paid $110 and when I got to the location they tell me that There is an additional charge of $90 for //HIF// Handing Insurance fee....even if you use your own insurance with full coverage.....this fee is in case you get in to an accident and even if you don't .is not refundable. ..

tal asseraf

THIEVES THIEVES BEWARE FAKE CHARGES ONCE YOU GET THERE SCAMMERS, I RENT A CAR ABOUT ONCE A MONTH IN FLL, FIRST TIME WITH ECONOMY AND LAST, THEY ARE TRAINED TO GET MORE MONEY OFF THE CUSTOMER AND THEY GET COMMISSION ON WHATEVER THEY GET OUT OF YOU, HANDLING FEE, INTERNATIONAL FEE, PROCESSING FEE, ALL B.S BEWARE DO NOT DEAL WITH ECONOMY

Tony Kalbouneh

Zero star if i could. Paid 140 for a 6 day rental online. Went to office to pick up car,. They wanted $237 more because of insurance issues (i have a $100,000) for property damage on my policy. Most major car rental companies ask $10 per day for insurance, except these yahoos. Will contact bbb and AG once we get home. Thanks for ruining our trip. Now we can't get other rentals because most are fully booked. I have never had any issues with car rental companies before. You eople need to be shut down.

TMM Global

Stay away!!!!! They make you buy their insurance even if you’ve already purchased other insurance!!! Stay away and go to a reputable car rental company!!!!

Miss Channer

This company comes with so many unexplained fees, you end up paying double you would with a big name. When you try to get an explanation it depends on who you speak to because everyone gives a different explanation

Tally Rush

Sales woman was patient and explained everything to me...great experience!

Phuoc Tran

I had a horrible experience. I had to wait a long time for my car... over an hour and a half. I felt cornered and very pressured to buy more. They asked if I had a break down of my insurance. Who in the world travels with their policy breakdown? Typically I just have my insurance card and that’s all I need. They didn’t have the car I reserved and gave me a downgrade. Forced me to buy their zero deductible insurance and if not I had to put down $2000 deposit with no guarantee I would get it back. Long day of travel and frustrated and ended up being late for my business meeting. I advice every body to look out for this particular car company- 111 SW 33rd Street. I complained to Ft Lauderdale BBB and they were not able to do anything.

Chaun Nina

Save your money this place is TRASH! I rented a car from here 2 weeks ago. The man at the front desk was rude and he wanted a hard copy of my insurance card which is ridiculous no one travels around with there insurance card and he caught an attitude because I didn't. The car was absolutely TRASH it was loud like a motorcycle it had no pick up. It seem like it was going to break down. They add on charges weeks later without an receipt which is unprofessional. I will NEVER ever rent from this company again. If I could give 0 stars I would.

James A

What a piece of **** company, I did book through Priceline and confirmed the price and my address, when I showed up to pick the car the agent gave this werid restriction because my driver license is from Florida and they said I cannot do the unlimited miles that was advertised on Priceline and also I have to pick their insurance and not carry mine made my car charge double than what I did pay on Priceline during reservation. Out of principal I cancelled and now I am waiting on refund process which could take long time. I never had such werid rules with other decent companies like Enterprise or Hertz ..etc Avoid these **holes at all cost

Lisa Pagan

Workers were nice enough but fees for FL state residents and regulations stunk. There is a 150.00 cc hold ( not bad) must have full coverage insurance or you pay an additional 21.00 per day for their insurance and additional 7.00 per day processing fee. Overall my 87.00 rental would have come out to 198.00. Lots of red tape but better than renteasy.

Beth Myers

Terrific experience. Fast check in and delightful staff. Prices were exactly as quoted online. No extras. The check in person made the insurance coverage no pressure. We used a credit card that was exceptable and done. Much faster than Avis, National or Budget. Professional operation.

Robert Edwards

I had a 70 dollar rental in writing. At end of day they charged 245. Told me local price for being a Florida resident. I emailed customer service. They said rental person charged for insurance. I produced rental insurance at time of pick up. Basically they charged me over triple price for a base car. They said you signed, no discount. Will use Enterprise, full size truck same as Economy, no bull. Rented a week later... no problems. From Enterprise.

Jeffrey Vargas

Bad, reckless, scam, scam, scam, Beware they will @&”%€<£ you over They will not use Vaseline, they will Give it to you raw with a smile on there faces. I still feel the pain. Are you ready to get €£¥%# rent economy and you will not see them coming. Keep the stress away from your vacation don’t rent economy. Save yourself from bad experiences protecting your wellbeing.

chichi

I rarely leave reviews, but this one needs to be said. Wish I came here before I dealt with this shady company. I WILL NOT ever use this company again and I promise that I will let as many people as possible know that they deceive the customers. Yes, it's stated that mandatory insurance MAY be necessary, but in the finest print available and in extremely vague language. I will not be using this company ever again and I hope they go out of business as soon as possible. $10/day, even if you're insurance gives you a helicopter ride to IBIZA while your car gets repaired. I asked to speak to a manager and obviously they were apologetic and obviously the manager wasn't in. They have been trained to deal with customers on an hourly basis that dispute the "mandatory insurance" and the script is Oscar worthy. "I'm very sorry. It's company policy. It's in the terms and conditions. I'm sorry. We require all customers get absolutely SCAMMED by our shady tactics....it's company policy." Sure, I could have gone to another car rental place (and I sincerely wish I did) but my flight came in at 3am and this "companies" office was off the airports site. That should have been the first sign. In fact, I will advise ANYONE with an actual SOUL, to not even APPLY TO WORK here because they scam and deceive customers on a regular basis. Don't bother with a reply, Economy customer service, because I don't want your empty apology or credit towards your series of bogus reinsurance DEALS. I won't be emailing this to your customer service department and if you reply with that you clearly didnt even read my review, thus proving my point; you're a joke. I am only writing this for the potential future customers. Buyer avoid this pratical joke of a company. Use anything BUT this company. Have a great day!

Nathanael Ilteus

I wouldn’t recommend renting from Economy because when you arrive you will pay something different. My total online was 162 and when I arrived I paid 280. I’ll never rent from them again. Also, even though you pay for collision insurance, you still have to pay for their insurance which they do not disclose. A complete and total rip off. The employees are nice people, they just have to work for the company.

Nicholas Ciraldo

Nice staff, but they get you on fees. Shady charges. Over-the-phone customer service sucked. Off-site location, too, in a dicey neighborhood — total pain. Don’t do it.

Alanna Holt

Just had an awful experience. Flight was delayed by two hours, so economy cancelled my reservation without notice and forced me to book a new car at five times the price. I was shocked and upset, complaining and trying to see what I could do when then the staff person threw my credit card and ID back at me and said “get on the shuttle, you aren’t renting a car here tonight.” I apologized to him to try and settle him down, but was in tears by the end I was so humiliated and cheated. What an awful place STAY AWAY.

Keshia Wilkins

They are a RIP off! They change the price twice and refuse to allow for me to use my own insurance..they make money off denying refunds when the reservation doesn't go through. Dont reserve a car with them.

Jonathan Goldstein

If I could leave a negative-star review for this company I would do it faster than a 3yo running to a free pony. Absolutely the worst customer service and business ethics since the old Comcast. Horrible. Had a fender-bender and my car's repairs were delayed due to parts availability. So, I used Orbitz to find the best rate, paid in full on my debit card. On Orbitz Economy has a subpar 33% approval rating. But, because their competitors average 45% I figured "how much worse could the be?". My wife picked me up and drove me 20 minutes further from home to the rental office. I waited on line, smiled happily and walked to the front with my Orbitz booking number. It was there I found out my rental would be an additional $7.00 a day ($63.00 total) for being a Florida resident and using my own insurance. Plus an additional $150 deposit. And here's the kicker, they don't allow deposits on debit cards, only credit cards. The guy behind the counter explained this to me as if he does it 50 times a day, with no emotion or empathy (all in a days work, right fellas?). So, here I am at 8:30pm with no car, no other office open, and my money in Orbitz's pocket. First off, it has been my experience that most businesses in Florida encourage local business through "resident discounts", not additional costs because you happen to be local. Second, based on the reviews on Google, lying to customers is part of this company's business plan. They excel at it, they're black belts at lying and deception. Shameful. I can only hope that a giant Florida sinkhole opens under their office and drags them all back down to the fiery depths of hell from which they came.

Life Coach V

The wait was a big long due to their new system update but they’re really nice and helpful.

Boris Aksenov

Slowest service I have ever encountered at a retail location in the modern era. You wait in line for hours and hours even when the location is fully staffed. I might die from old age before I even get my car. Please save me Oh and once you get to the kiosk they try to charge you some scam insurance which is double the cost of the actual car. I just walked out and left. This legitimately might be one the worst establishments I have ever visited

MariaPilar Solis

The same BIG ISSUE that everyone has here. I reserved a car 2 weeks in advance online. Through a third party bussines Hot wire, so I made sure that my car has unlimited miles and like always I will have to show proof of insurance and nothing else. so I printed the reservation, when I got there was a full completely story. The guy told me if I read the Florida policy about the limited miles only for Florida residents. If I exceed 150 miles I have to pay for every 150 miles that I drive. Also their insurance like 150 more even though I show proof of insurance. At the end they wanted me to pay triple of what the confirmation page of my reservation says DUE AT PICK UP. This is false advertisement. DO NOT MAKE BUSSINES WITH ECONOMY CAR RENTAL. YOU WILL REGRET IT. Reed the reviews before and everyone of us had the same issue. Mine was in Fort Lauderdale. Also says the location is at the Fort Lauderdale Airport which is not. It's close by. So when you go there you are in the middle of nowhere. BIG BULLSHIT SCAM!

Cheri Strunks

I was skeptical renting from here because of some reviews I had read prior to our trip but we had a great experience. Marcela and Daniel were great and definitely made sure we were taken care of. It appeared we had came at a peak rush time but I would say we got through and were on the road in a timely manner. I was able to present my own insurance instead of paying for theirs. And I took advantage of the 18$ offer of them covering my deductible if anything was to happen, instead of them putting a hold on my credit card for my deductible amount. We got a decent car for less than 60 bucks for the 4 days we had it. When I return the car, it was a quick experience and they had a shuttle waiting to take us to the airport.

Terrence Burroughs

When I first rented the car through Expedia, the price came out to around $172, which was fine. When I got to the airport and took the shuttle to Economy, I was expecting to just get the car and go. The clerk informs me that Economy requires you to have insurance for their cars. I tried to decline it and they say that it is mandatory. I have used many rental car companies before and this company is the first one that will not let anyone decline the insurance. After I did the insurance, I was told I had to pay an additional $296. When I went to return the car, which was unscathed, I inquired if I could get my money back for the insurance. For one, the clerk was rude. He acted as if we were not there and then proceeded to tell us that because we were using the company's insurance, that it was non-refundable. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN!! THEY ARE A HUGE RIP-OFF!!! I WOULD ADVISE THAT ANYONE LOOKING FOR A RENTAL CAR USE A MORE REPUTABLE SOURCE AND PAY THE EXTRA MONEY!!

Jawad T.

Glad I read the reviews before, my wife opened a reservation for a car from them on Expedia. Upon googling them and reading the reviews about the mystery fees and nightmare scenarios I called to ask them about bringing my own insurance and other associated fees. The associate that answered the calls was only giving me general answers and when I told him that I can provide the specific reservation number and insurance info he refused to answer my questions about fees. That being said, we immediately cancelled our reservation and went with a more reputable company. Not to mention that they aren't even located at the airport... Definitely sketchy, if the price is too good to be true then it sure is. I don't mind paying 50-60 bucks more to go with the larger car rental companies and have peace of mind. Stay away!!!

Barbara Castagna

great price, nice car and great service from Luis and Carlos. Had to take and extra step with shuttle but it was so easy. Will defiantly use again.

Rick Lesser

I'm sure this place is wonderful I've never been there, oh wait yeah I sit at the traffic light in front of it a lot. Google you're supposed to be the end all beat all. All knowing. so why are you always getting all this wrong? you're always putting me in places that I've never been and insist I give a review for it you drive me crazy now it's my turn!!!

alan gonzalez

Service it's really slow had to wait for an hour and they took a deposit of 1000 dollars what usually other company doesn't do, will recomend to go thru other options, plus their not on the car rental place, u have to take a bus to take over their offices

Dexter Britton-Grant

DO NOT RENT FROM ECONOMY, THEY WILL KEEP YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT ON HOLD FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND GIVE YOU THE RUN-AROUND TO RETURN IT.

Timothy Walsh

If I could put a negative number I would. Bait a switch is illegal! Told I had to pay an up charge for insurance, witch is covered by Chase Sapphire card. Then they said they require additional insurance on top of liability. Had me fax over my insurance paperwork.... Then told me there was a "personal insurance handling fee" or a $1000 dollar deposit. Which put me right back at national Enterprise rates! Economy is NOT located at the airport you have to take a shuttle once they have you trapped there they they tell you there is a fee to cancel. I called Orbitz, and walked away $10 a day is not worth the scam.

Daryl Jasopersad

Wow, what a terrible place. After taking TWO buses off of the airport property we arrive to a back alley business that could've been the set for a zombie invasion movie. My wife and I walk in with our 3 year old and stand in line for over an hour and a half. It seemed like everyone in front of us were arguing with the desk employee. We finally get to the desk and are asked for proof of something from our personal insurance. Not just proof of the policy, and actual specific portion of the policy. Luckily I have the mobile app. Then after finally providing that, we are asked about a bunch of add ons that we decline. Employee then says he will now charge our card, I asked how much (just to make sure, I'm paranoid like that) and he tells us a price over 2x what we had a CONFIRMED RESERVATION WITH DEPOSIT for. I immediately go off asking for an explanation and he tries. The employee says it's an additional insurance to the insurance I ALREADY HAVE! I tell him I already put a deposit down for the confirmed price and he says doesn't matter this is how this car rental company does it. So now here I am along with my wife and 3 year old at now 2am, we are at this terrible location and I feel like we are being held captive unless we take the deal. Luckily my wife, while I was going back and forth with Economy, was on her phone looking up other rental companies and found one through Hertz, for around my original Economy quote. She shows me, I tell the guy we will go elsewhere, and he says good luck finding a car at 3am. I say nothing and leave, we were able to take the bus/shuttle back to the airport (only good thing Economy did) , and go to Hertz. The Hertz guys said they get most of their late business from angry folks who went to Economy. I will never attempt to rent a car from Economy again. I will never suggest that anyone rents from Economy. Economy might as well be the business model for a bad business. Whoever thought that misguiding travelers and then attempting to get them to pay 2x reservation costs is a complete idiot. I'm pretty sure this is false advertising or something. I'm summation, Economy sucks. Like the Economy in 2008. F¥€& you Economy. Walked in with our reservation in hand and was told there were more charges that had to be added on.

Krishnavi Kannan

If I could I will give 0 stars, it’s nothing but a money laundering company with all hidden fees. The guy who checked us in was very pleasant when we arrived but on car return he was exactly the opposite. Will not recommend this rental and I am not a returning customer

Jason M.

Every rental while I was there was given a much larger fee than quoted at time of reservation. This included 2 ahead of me, myself, and 1 after me. I was charged double the quoted rate at time of reservation because I used a debit card as form of payment. This was not reflected in my bill. My bill showed fees of extra insurance which I did not buy. Others paid for insurance through online booking website and was told that wasn't enough coverage. I feel the process is intentionally deceiving at time of booking and extra fees are added once a person arrives to rent their vehicle. Waited 30 minutes in line due to this. Vehicle itself was fine.

Kayla Myren

Terrible! I too had the additional charges at the counter. It was $10 for tolls. I was told I would be charged $20 per toll plus the toll fee. At check in there was one employee (in sweatpants) who ran the counter then went to the garage to check the cars out. It took a long time. Upon return the employee would not give me a receipt. He said it would be emailed to me which it was not. This place was 2 shuttle rides away from the terminal. Shady!!

Not very good service and exorbitant insurance up-charges. Also, they are off-site and the shuttle bus driver was not very helpful -- he didn't offer to assist me with my 50 lb suitcase. Anyway, I recommend using one of the better recognized name rental car services at the airport. WOW! I just went online to your website and realized that your overall rating is 2.8 out of 5 -- with over 1500 reviews!! That is a poor rating. 56% of your customers are not happy -- over half of your customers!! That has to mean that you are doing something wrong. I am not one to rant online without offering solutions. Here's what I suggest: put the insurance requirements and charges in BIG PRINT and make sure people sign off to agree to them. This is not good. People will only allow themselves to be burned one time with this company.

Mark Randall

Big mistake don’t do it bait and switch triple the rate if everyone wrote reviews and contacted Expedia we could get this joke of a company shut down

Isaac Olowogbade

I received one of the best customer service at a car rental agency from Chris C. He was patient and calmly answered any questions I had and waited patiently as I called my girlfriend to figure out which car she liked better lol. Really set a good start to a nice mini vacation. I would recommend Economy and will definitely use them on my next trip back to Ft Lauderdale.

Annie O'Neill

This is a big scam! First it’s off site from airport so you have to wait a while for shuttle. It’s says it’s at the airport. But the biggest scam is insurance requirements. We bought the extra insurance but when you get to the counter they say that’s only collision. They need proof of insurance of liability. At 8 pm there’s no way to get proof. So it’s $20 a day. When I asked if I could just get it for a day and bring proof of my liability back the next day he said no. Completely ridiculous. The price is too good to be true. Terrible business model.

Thomas Barnett

Hidden fees... booked hotwire at a certain price and ended up paying double the booked price when picking up the car. Brakes were grinding too... car they gave us was banged up as well.

Acs Zava

$1000 deposit!!!! even if you pay$10 for insurance offered online. NOTHING ECONOMY ABOUT THAT When renting a car, they then wanted 11 more dollars a day saying that the $10 insurance was from the website and did not cover liability. And on top they wanted an extra $3.99 for something else to do with insurance in order for the deposit to go down so basically an insurance you’re looking at pain $24 a day besides your car rental charge plus the guy on the phone did not even know how to speak proper English I had to make him repeat himself multiple times.

One of the biggest MISTAKES I made in using this company was that I did not read the reviews. Majority of the reviews about this company are correct. I experienced the same thing the majority experienced. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. I was told that my total rental would be about $69.00. However, my total was $106.63. When I arrived at the counter, I was asked to produce my credit card and ID, the agent proceeded to explain their Florida insurance policy. I told the agent that I had Comprehensive Ins. I produced my insurance cards as proof. Then the agent told me he needed the BREAK DOWN coverage of my insurance. Irrespective, Economy still charged me about $10.00 a day for their insurance. If you are reading this review as well as others, PLEASE believe us. The word Economy carries the idea that pricing is going to be reasonable and fair. But Economy Rent A Car is using this term to mislead consumers. When you arrived you will not receive an Economy rate, you will be ripped off. Ladies and Gentlemen, I IMPLORE YOU TO STAY FAR AWAY FOR THIS COMPANY, PLEASE. I wish there was a zero rating b/c that's what they deserve.

Jessica

Uncaring workers at the counter, put me in a squirrely vehicle that pulled to the right as well as BOTH TAIL LIGHTS WERE OUT. i had people flashing their lights at me and didnt know why till a cop pulled me over. i called the rental center and they said they could tow it to the closest care center but we would be stuck there till morning. i missed work the next day because of this. they did not do a single thing to even try to make it right. terrible customer service, terrible vehicles, terrible management. also heads up if you are using your own insurance, whatever your deductable is will be placed on your card as a deposit (mines $1000). Or you can pay an additional $14 a day to reduce the deposit to .01 and they will bill your insurance if you get in an accident (you will still have to pay your deductable, just to your insurance company instead). If the vehicle is returned late it is an additional $12 AN HOUR. If you are renting in florida and have a florida license you are limited to 150miles a day. that includes all vehicles listed unlimited miles. It is .25cents per mile after the 150 miles

Karyn Peskosky

My sister rented a car for the week you were in the FL Keys...rate was great UNTIL she got there to rent it. She has USAA car insurance which covers rental cars, but she had to have a copy of the insurance coverage BEFORE renting the car. She would have had it, but this information was NOT in the online info. There was a sign in the office informing her of this.(Kind of a bait & switch). The internet didn't work in the office either to pull it up, so she ended up paying almost double the rental fee.

I recieved excellent customer service from Juan M. (aka Juan Morales) at the FLL airport location. He was extremely patient, kind, and helpful when Expedia refused to give me a refund for unnecessary insurance that I purchased. He stayed at least an extra hour at work and did everything he could to ensure that I received a full refund! There is often confusion about insurance at rental places. He understood that and very clearly and calmly explained everything to me so that I paid for only what I had to. FYI: collision + liability----a CC often covers only collision and you must pay for liability there if you don't already have it. Thank you so much Juan!

Jeff Rocco

Please heed my advice and simply DO NOT rent a car here. You WILL be unashamedly gouged.

chuck booth

This is the first time I have ever had an experience so terrible I had to post about it. When picking up the car I was hit with extra fees that I paid, I thought these fees covered the 10$ daily sun pass. No they charged me extra insurance even thoigh I am already insured, I paid 134$ because I wanted no headaches. I received my invoice after the rental and thought everything was ok. Twice now, I have been hit with toll violations, each violation economy is charging me 20$ on top of it. I called several times as I wanted to get clarification but I had to email customer care. I email customer care and it can take up to 3 days to respond. Please look somewhere else.

Nicholas Rolf

These goofballs say you need collision. I tell them that my credit card company covers rental car collision. Then they say the 4 day rental is now $184 because I need collision even though it’s covered by my credit card. I tell them I just reserved a car through the more reputable Dollar Rental Car for $129 and won’t have to deal with their bogus claims. They also try to sell you the toll road package. I tell them I have my own Sun Pass. They tell me that my Sun Pass won’t work in their cars. This was a complete lie. This place is a total joke. Reply: This is how you can improve. If a customers credit card covers rental cars, you should accept that. You actually have a LEGAL responsibility to accept the coverage. Also, if a customer produces their own liability coverage, it should be accepted. No questions asked. Also, if a customer has their own Sun Pass, they can use it. Don’t have the agent lie and say they can’t. That is how every legitimate rental car company operates.

Mike Soni

I would have given them less than 1 star i had a booking but was late due to flight delay and when i went to pick up my car they said i am late and they don’t have the car i book and offer me a car with almost double money what i book so I argued with them and told then give me five minutes to think and than after 5 mins since I didn’t had any option i said give me the car u have so the manager start acting and said i will try to take care of you and after sometime he said that I don’t have any car left with us so I can’t give u any car we are very sorry abt it. So please don’t go to this place. They just want to scam you and get more money.

Paul Cook

Thwy were very helpful and professional would recommend to all my friends

There is no option provided here for me to give a minus star for the review I am about to give to Economy rent a car. I have been traveling a lot lately and I am about to give a review about this company which I hope will help others to think before they go ahead and make any reservation through them. I had a vacation planned for Miami and booked my rental car through price-line. The reservation was made for Standard car from May 31st 12:00 am to June 03 04:30 am. The reservation was confirmed through price-line and I was suppose to pick my rental car from Economy Rent a car at Fort Lauderdale. I landed at the FLL airport on May 30th 11:35 pm, I had to call Economy to send out a shuttle pick from the airport since they are located 2 miles away from the airport. Initially they didn't answer my call and later when some agent picked up my call they said they do not have shuttle service available for airport pick up. I said that I have reservation but they didn't care much about it. I just took Lyft and reached to their location, after providing them with my reservation information they said they could not find any itinerary related to my rental car booking done through priceline. I called Priceline agent and they confirm to me that there has been no such reservation cancellation and they could see that I still have car to be picked from Economy rental car. In-fact the priceline agent spoke with Economy agent and confirm about my reservation. On other hand Economy agent said that since the client was late his reservation might have got cancelled through automated system. I was right there waiting at the counter and reached the Economy office before the pickup time and then too they said it got cancelled which doesn't make any sense. The priceline agent said that they will call Economy agent and talk to them that to resubmit another reservation for you and provide me with a rental car. The car which was originally register by me was at $155 which I was suppose to pay during my pick-up now the Economy were asking me to make a payment of $235 for the same car. I had no other option but to opt to walk out from the Economy office call out another Uber car and reach back to my hotel. In short I wasted three hours from airport to Economy office, and then back to my hotel. Plus I paid $20 for uber since Economy do not provided me shuttle. Plus amount of calls that I had to make that night between Economy agent, price line customer service. This was suppose to be a relaxing weekend spend with my wife on a holiday which turn out spending that whole night in running and not getting any service. Utterly disappointed with both Priceline and more with Economy. I would never ever recommend anyone to reserve their rental car from Economy in future. Its better to stay away from such rental car based on my personal experience and trouble we had to face.

Marilyn Berkley

I never thought to read reviews for a car rental company! After our experience here though I did, and found them to be correct. Worst car rental place ever. First you have to take a bus to the airport car rental service area and then you have to take another shuttle to the exact car rental location. The service reps take forever to process each customer. We waited 45 minutes in line just to see an agent. Then more time going over every piece of paperwork. Luckily I did bring our insurance declaration page with us because I got a text to do so if not using their insurance. We werent going to get the sunpass but of course was talked into it and I am not sorry that we opted for that. No problem returning car but when we got on the return shuttle there were 5 other people going back to the car rental center and they were quite mad about the insurance policy and upcharges. they did not rent from economy when they learned about the policies but returned to the rental center to get a more reputable company.

Sonam Bakhshi

HUGE MISTAKE to be lured in by their ostensibly cheap prices. Customer service is extremely rude and they forced us to buy expensive insurance even though we already had coverage through our insurance company. The cost quickly went up from $68 to over $200. I now have to spend precious time on the phone with my insurance and emailing their customer care team to try to get a refund. Pay the few dollars more and go with Hertz or one of the other car rental companies at FLL.

Steven Eisele

Cheap advertised prices, but then you get the insurance sell up, etc, by the time the dust settles and you add up your total I think you're better paying slightly more for a name brand car rental company. They also have the upsell, but in my experience it's not as extreme as the off-brand rental agencies-this being a classic example. Expect a hard sell on both damage and liability. Most likely the agent won't rent to you unless you can prove coverage or buy their extremely expensive coverages and insurance handling fee.

Jinggoy Diosana

Use this car rental service if you want extra charges for car insurance. It's the same complain about if you read comments about them. For us, they would like to charge extra $20 per day for insurance, given that I have insurance; so it will cost us a total of $110 of car insurance for 5 days. The rental is only $80. What I did? Checked my phone for another car rental company, got another one near the airport (cheap as hell with no fine print BS like them) and rode back to FLL with their car shuttle. I suggest you do the same if you find yourself in the same predicament. All other car rental companies I tried in FLL airport dont do the fine-print-extra-car insurance-charge-BS they charge (well, tried thrifty and Ace rent car).

Gregg Nicholls

1 star is overrated. My Expedia reservation was for $114. My actual cost was $386. I brought the car back one day early, expecting to be refunded for that day. Instead I was charged a early return charge, which was exactly the refund amount. I truly believe that they are not a car rental agency....they are actually an insurance company....they make much more per day on bogus insurance charges than the car rental charge. I returned the car so that I could rent from another agency, at 1/2 the weekly cost. The joke on Economy is that I am actually in town on business for 3 months. Economy only got 6 days...the other agency will have my business for the rest of the 3 months. Never again, Economy.

Plaridel Sanchez

I only give them four because we have reservation for SUV none was available once we arrive to that place.. maybe one of the catch when you see a good deal..

jessica llanos

DONT EVER RENT A CAR FROM THIS PLACE. HAD THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! Guy told me he will charge me if I don't sign a paper, dont ever come here.

Karen Litwa

Extremely helpful after weather-related travel delays. We had been on hold for hours with the booking company, but Myrcella fixed it when we got there. She also helped with the SunPass. We really appreciate your help. Just remember to bring proof of car insurance. Overall, very pleased.

Natalie Wood

STAY AWAY!!! If they had zero stars it would have been chosen! STAY AWAY from Economy Rent A CAR FLL. They cancelled my parents reservation because they were 2 hours late and did not assist with remedying the situation. Then said they couldn't do anything to help them and quoted them $1000 for an economy car. HORRIBLE PLACE!!!!!! THEY WILL NEVER HAVE MY BUSINESS AGAIN!!!!!

Luis Perez

I’m not sure why some of the reviews are so bad. I’ve rented from them multiple times and the only incovience is having to wait in line during busy seasons. I got a text to bring my insurance so I did and everything was fine. Sunpass saves a lot of time when I go to the keys or Orlando instead of trying to pay the tolls myself with extra charges. The staff is always very courteous and cool.

Jake Woods

I just dont understand the business practice. In all my years of renting vehicles I have never had to produce a copy of my insurance. Its not mentioned noticeably enough in the Ad to know before hand. You get the lowest rate and they turn around and jack you with hidden fees and requirements you wouldn't expect. I would 100% recommend any car rental place directly at the airport. This company is offsite and their service is terrible. I never even picked up my car from them and they refused to refund the money! Astonishing the lack of honesty from this company. The BBB will be notified. My experience is a far too common occurrence from what I have read, after researching the reviews. If you are smart and have done some reading before booking, avoid avoid avoid this place.

Aliaksandr Zharnasek

They should be clear about all the charges for the insurance and all additional coverages... than the price is not going to be as little as it is listed! Read the reviews guys and book regular car rental companies.. economy is not any cheaper

rrrrrrromero .

Great service, very friendly people, quick ride to and from the airport on the shuttle. I got lucky and got an almost brand new car. I will definitely use them again. Not to mention good value.

sharina future

Lewis was absolutely amazing. I never seen such great customer service in any industry in my life. I would definitely book again. We need more people like him. Awesome experience thanks to Lewis being patient and helping me with a few problems we stumbled upon after arriving here.

Aurora Pro Services

Never again Renting through this car rental place again. 1. Not in airport terminal 2. Would not take no for an answer on insurance. I had to show them certificates of insurance for both business and personal even though Amex covers car rentals and he knew it. 3. Held $1,000 Deposit for insurance even though I showed them I had insurance. 4. Took me almost an hour to get out of there.

Jackieta Fairley

Theeeeeeee worst place ever to rent from because they were cheap online. When I stepped foot into the place I was charged a totally different rate. I needed to extend the length of my rental. I was made to drive an hour back to the facility in order to do it. I also asked could they change the time from 9am to 9pm and they said they I would need to pay for an extra day. So my only choice for me and my child were to sit in the Fort Lauderdale airport for the rest of the day.

Gerry Compton

I stood in line watched them lie to customers, one customer have his declaration page and the man told him he was paying for insurance just made me sick. We fly in to wait in a 2 hour line to get moved to another stop and then see a sign to callfor a shuttle which was another 30 to 40 Minutes. We finally arrive to this place that’s a scam! To watch them check out other customers. We picked this awful place so we could drop rental off to the cruise port. Well THEY CANCELED OUR RESERVATION sonce we were 2 hours late!!! WTF! I know right! That was the best throng they could have done. We ended up on a shuttle and back at the airport we went to dollar rental and we got a better vehicle for cheaper and we find out we drop our rental right at the port not and outside location! So around we got a better vehicle, better drop off location and we didn’t have them force that bull down our throat! Trust me it don’t work on me and I appreciate she asked and then moved on! I wish I could give a 0. But that’s not an option! They also said were charged a 35.00 cancellation fee!!! Run! Do not rent from here!

Angie Becerra

I had a 94 dollar rental in writing confirmation. At end of day they wanted to charged me $ 297. Told me local price for being a Florida resident. There was a 97$ for using my insurance. They said rental person charged for insurance. Basically they charged me over triple price for a base car. I requested a cancellation and they told me it wasnt able to cancelled and no refund. So they Kept my $94 and i disnt got to rent the car. A GARBAGE OF COMPANY.

Shehan Rahman

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. It's a SCAM.... My flight was delayed an hour and there response was your reservation expired. Your charges are almost triple. Please avoid I don't understand how they get away doing this to people vacationing.

Emran Browne

Absolutely Horrible. Watch out for the hidden costs. Booked on Expedia was told 151 taxes in then got charged 276 on my credit card. They are off airport and a task to get to you have to take the rental shuttle to the main shuttle then transfer to another smaller shuttle to an off site parking lot. I WILL NEVER book with them again..would give ZERO STARS if I could what a disappointment and was very deceptive. Read everything and question everything that comes out of the sales people’s mouth. FYI this is first review that I’ve ever done on a company..that’s how much I feel that I should warn others. there 2.5 star rating is being generous.

Loyce ihotu usman

This place sucks big time. Customer service sucks. Watch out for extra charges. The staff is rude AF.

Irina S

While the service was relatively quick the hidden fees killed the whole experience. I paid more in the fees than I did for the car. I booked through expedia, but when I got to the office there were plenty of fees to pay on top of the booking. Apparently you have to pay these people $10 a day to use your own insurance, why? There was nothing about this on the site, even expedia customer service was surprised. Called and emailed Economy customer service about this, got one and only email back saying they will investigate, haven't heard since. Calling did not get me far either, I was told that the number is to the global office and I would have to make contact by email. So thank you for cheating me out of money, I'll be choosing a different company in the future.

Elijah dymond

Car was a junk car I would give one star but they where nice and able to do what I needed.

Lisa Shriver

Great place to rent a car from, very easy process. I would recommend 100%

Anita Turner

Good old fashioned bait and switch. By the time you add in all the additional fees the rate per day is 3 times what was quoted online. Dont waste your time.

Lona Petit

The price you see won't be the price you pay. They are liars. I wish I could give them a zero star

Shondell Bowman

Everything was pretty easy and ready, only 2 things that I didn't like was insurance if you didn't have your own was $40 A-day, and that you had to get a Sun pass but I did like the fact that the representative told me about it because it did save me money

Edward Correa

DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS PLACE!!!! Someone should seriously report this company. They took money from my card and when I called them they told me a completely different price. It like like 3x the price that they took from me originally. I called expedia and spent 2 hours with them and the company did not want to cancel and refund the money. IT is by far the WORST company I have ever dealt with. The most dishonest business. Please DO NOT rent from them. if I could give them less than a star I would.

Jean-Claudy Thelusca

One of the worse car rental ever .. the vehicle wasn’t clean , tire is not good, the gas wasn’t full and all they worry about is money. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to them

Aerica Maslyn

Terrible. If you use a debit card, there is a 9 dollar per day fee. They don't tell you that though before purchasing. They also don't tell you everything you need to bring with you to make this process easier. They don't tell you that they are located off premises until after you purchase, and then send a confirmation e-mail telling you- you not only have to ride one bus, but 2 busses, the first bus drops you off at a stop and then you have to walk almost a quarter mile to the stop where you have to wait for the economy bus to pick you up. I'm sorry but all of this information needs to be clear. As a single mother of 2 kids ages 1 and 2, pushing a double stroller, having 2 car seats, 1 luggage, 2 small backpack carry ons, and a lunch pail carry on for their drinks. I WAS NOT INFORMED. They are so unprofessional, and have no care to help. I specifically reviewed everything to make sure this process, as well as my flights, ran as smooth as possible. I turned them in to the BBB, and asked for proof of where the extra charges were stated on the website I purchased from. I also asked where the e-mail was that stated these charges. I also asked why I wasn't informed of the 2 bus rides, quarter mile walk was stated. All I was given was these are in our policies etc etc. Multiple times. Never gave me proof of where it was stated. Disgusting how they work. I feel sorry for people that work for them and have to deal with this, with EVERY customer. NEVER AGAIN!!

Anubhav Shah

Although a copy of insurance card is demanded the staff is courteous, prices are great (14 a day), shuttle to car rental center was frequent, and car safe and clean. Its sad to see many negative reviews when relative to other rental companies here like easirent they do not bait and switch etc.

Kim Mena

Ok so just a warning for all FLORIDA residents, if you rent from there you will get charged a $9.95 a day processing fee for insurance. It was not advertised on the booking site so I was surprised when my 2 well long rental was an extra $150 because I had my own insurance, that was more than the cost of the rental! Customer service is fine but know that Florida residents get the shaft. Also no unlimited miles for us, 150 mile limit per day. You're better off renting from one of the airport agencies.

Bukola Islamiyat

I had the worst experience at the fort lauderdale Florida location,I booked the car online with collision coverage, when I got to the location to pick up the car, they asked me to pay another money for Liability insurance coverage without I won’t be allowed to pick up the car. Mind you, this wasn’t mentioned online when I reserved the car. CustomerService is Zero; this particular staff was so rude, right from when we walked into the door I o when he handed us the key. What business enterprise staff do not wear name tags? (A shady one)He even suggested that the shuttle was still outside and we were more than welcome to hop back on and go back to the airport. If he had a name tag, I’ll mention his name of right here. Yes we flew in from Dallas. After all this hassle we got a car and the car has tire pressure light on. And oh did I mention you have to return the car with a full gas tank? This is the worst car rental experience I have had. I should have stuck with what I knew. Last time I rented a car , I didn’t have to go through all this and I could return the car with a half filled tank. If I could give this company a zero star, I would.

Akela Drayton

I was originally quoted $352.48 ended up paying 1180.01. This was only after I actually arrived to collect the car. Then the rep didn’t explain the Sunpass which was added to my total. Definitely won’t be using them again and I’d advise anyone else not to.

Boris Tilis

This company has Bad Customer Service. Over the internet Company give you one price and when you pick up the vehicle Company double charge you. All their vehicles comes with exterior body damages and dirty interior. Bad smell inside their rented vehicles. Looks like you driving 20 year old vehicle never been cleaned. Stay away from Economy Rent a Car.

Rebecca Primerano

Soooo....when you reserve a car&fly to your destination, get to said rental company&they tell you there is no car for you. But..."if you had prepaid online we would have found you one" WHAT?! Makes no sense. Why take reservations ?? ridiculous. Just lost a customer for life and I'll be telling everyone I know about your poor customer service!

James Wood

I prepaid and brought in everything I was supposed to even made multiple phone calls so everything would run smoothly, but still after everything is said and done a 7 day car rental cost me over $560.00 on top of the $157.00 I paid in advance. I have rented many cars in the past from other companies for the same length of time for less than half the cost. In my opinion economy is a total RIP off

Jacklyn Rodriguez

Rented a car from this place online and purchased the insurance suggested online as it said it would cost more if we purchased the insurance when we arravided at the rental place. Once we arrive at the airport we find out this place is out of site so we had to take 2 busses just to get to it, not ideal when you have 3 children and luggage to carry. Once we get there they tell us we have to pay an additional $328 for insurance as the insurance suggested in their website was optional and through a "third party", so nothing to do with them. We ended up paying over $520 for a beat up economy car, rented for 9 days. Oh and they charged us full price for day one even though we picked up the car at around 11:30pm. Honestly just go else where, this place is not worth your headache or your money!

Chris Coyle

Worst experience by far I've ever had with a car rental. Don't go with the cheapest like I did pay a fee more for one of the others. First it's not at the car rental center. We had too take a second bus too the industrial park it was in. Then they said I had to buy the insurance unless I had a declaration page from my insurance company in hand. Never seen that in years of car rentals. Luckily I have geico who emailed it right over. Then I was using a debit visa for the car like I always do. They charged me $10/day more because I didn't have a regular credit card. I don't carry them anymore since a debit has always been fine. My dad offered to use a card he had but then they insisted it had to be in my name. What's the difference??!! So I said lets put the car in his name then. I was told no because the reservation was already in my name and i booked it online so I paid the extra per day. I had it already at this point so asked to just cancel the reservation and was told there are no refunds. Shocker! Then to top it all off We had to extend our trip a day for medical reasons so I called up figuring not a big deal. I was told "it's high Season" and it would be an additional $120 for the day even though I paid $53/ day originally plus $10 for no credit card. Total rip off. It was a compact car! And they had at least 20 unused in the garage. Go somewhere else it will save you money and the headache

Bellini C

Worst car rental company I’ve ever had to deal with! Last Saturday I got there at 1 AM Tired and sleepy after my flight was two hours delayed to get a rental that I booked online. The associate that was checking me in tripled the price that I was quoted online! Had the nerve to tell me that Florida laws required that I get their insurance and I had no choice. I told him to cancel my reservation and left. I had to order an Uber to our hotel and 3 drivers cancelled because the car rental place is in the middle of nowhere! I went online right away and book a reservation at Budget. I went to Budget and everything went smoothly I didn’t have to get the insurance I was allowed to use my own insurance. The process was so easy and painless.

Maria Caetano

Worst costumer service ever. My car had a flat tire we called all the numbers that they have for help. Nobody come in to help us. Likely somebody stop by on the side of the freeway to help me out. You pay for services that they do not provide. Next day we went to get a new car or find a solution and they kept us forever in there . They literally rounded our vacations. I do not recommend Economy rent a car, especially if you have kids. It was very frustrating. And they charge you a lot for services that when you need they do not have.

robert ellis

Don't do it!! first, they are not at the airport, you take a shuttle, they charge you $1000.00 if you don't get their insurance after you prove you have insurance, which you get back sometime, they don't take debit cards, I don't know how long it takes I couldn't afford 1k so I had to get theirs. The car was dirty, stains on the headliner, water bottles in the trunk and backseat, wipers were awful, it's Florida, you need good wipers and the check engine light came on. They charged loss of use fee?, upgrade fee? (we booked a Nissan Sentra, that's what we got) insurance handling fee? They charge 9.95 a day for "sun pass" unless you don't get it, then they charge you 20.00 admin. fee if you go thru a toll and that's per toll up to 100.00. My 76.00 rental wound up costing me double. Stick with the major rental companies at the airport. I wish I would have read the reviews beforehand. JUST DON'T DO IT!!

If you are going to rent from a place like this, you have to know what you are doing. They don’t try to help you, they make it sound like the only option is what they provide. Which is their insurance, sunpass, scare you by telling you you are responsible if there is an accident etc. They don’t tell you at the time of rental that you can deny the insurance that they provide and sign a paper to use your own insurance ($1000) deposit if from out of state). I would have had to paid double than what i paid online. (Expedia) then I asked is there anything else i could do to avoid those charges, and then they say i can deny insurance. But if theres an accident the bill gets sent to my credit card company. They try to scare you into having to get a sunpass by telling you the $25 fee for going through the toll road, but all you have to do is avoid tolls settings on you gps and your fine. The car itself was functioning, clean, and comfortable. No problems with that. It was a little difficult to find from the airport, because its an off premises rental company. The shuttle driver was nice, but didn’t ask to help when loading and unloading my luggage. He just waited for me to do it myself.

Why can't I give zero stars? Just like many others, renting from this company was the biggest mistake of my life. Though I won't complain about the additional fees they charge you upon arrival (even if you prepaid your cheap booking), my biggest complaint was the fact that their car BROKE down on me. After two days of using the car, it breaks down and after waiting 2 hours, they send out whoever they contract to fix it. This person fixes the car and tells me it's probably not safe to drive and that if I turn it off, it will die again. He advises me to drive it to the Economy location immediately. Well, the car dies again! This time it can not be restarted and I am stuck an hour from home and the car has to be towed. I end up getting stranded and this awful company tries to charge me for the car. I put in numerous calls to their managers who now, a week later, have yet to call me back. I have put in numerous calls and even been hung up on.

lee graham

If you purchase insurance from Expedia and economy tells you that they don't accept it ask for a manager. Expedia says that economy does accept and will not refund our money. Triple thumbs down for economy.

Max Mealy

Quick and accommodating. As others mentioned, you have to give them insurance information (ie a card or number) to decline their coverage so be prepared. Also be aware that the location is outside of the rental car hub (you must take a second shuttle).

Ef Jeep

Beware of this company. They tried to get a $1,200 down payment, for me to use my own insurance. I'd give them zero Stars if I could.

Colleen Zayas

Excellent customer service! Fast and efficient service and gave us some personal tips. They should offer sun pass total rip off of 20$ extra fee when passing through tolls up to 100$. Wont be using them again. I had to edit this post from previous bc of the unforeseen charges.

Antonios Karkantonis

What a mistake!!!!!!!!!! Never again in my life. Not even if they gave me their car for half the price. Unethical, unprofessional and most importantly crooks. They try to find ways to rob you and they refer you to the fine print. By far the WORSE experience EVER...

doreen d

This rental place is horrible. No customer service Juan was extremely rude to an elderly gentleman. Absolutely do not use this company. They charge 1000.00 charge hold to your credit card. They are scammers and rude. The employees need sensitivity training. I do not see how they are in business.

I didn’t read the reviews before reservation with them. They offered the cheaper price for Toyota RAV4 than other companies so I booked. However, they gave us old Nissan and said it’s similar with RAV4. It was $63 on my booking but I had to pay $150 for some mystery fees. It’s a trap so people should check carefully before booking with this car rental. WARNING: After 4 months renting car here, I still have to pay 2 times $23 on my credit car. Everyone should be careful with the cheating company. I will claim my case with consumer reports and fraud department due to they always charged money to my account.

Joel Knafo

You will not pay what you think. You will pay more !. Maybe a lot more. All kinds of fees are suddenly attached to your rental. I was to pay $113 at pick up. Instead it became $199. It would have been more had I not been able to get a hold my insurance broker back home , who had to fax them a copy of my own car policy. STAY AWAY !!!! In addition, you need to take 2 shuttles to get to the rental office. Not worth all the hassles.

william cubas

Simply put the fee that must hurt me was the one just for being from Florida..... I guess local clients are not welcome. Also paid more than the double than I expected. Well lesson learned.

Frances Williams

Rented from this company and was concerned because the price was great. The counter agent, Paul Rodgers, was also GREAT. He walked us through the entire process and even help save money with the insurance and also explained the need of a toll pass especially at the Hard Rock Stadium, we were headed to the Orange Bowl (OU). Paul even walked us out to the car and completed the paper work with us. We got a new car with 200 miles. We are happy customers.

Derek Gilbert

I rented from them in 2017 and had an issue with undisclosed fees. After filing complaints with the BBB, they credited some of the fees back. I decided to give them another chance and just rented with them again, partly because of the good rate. Unfortunately, they are charging me $8 per day just because I live in the state of Florida. If I lived in any other state, I wouldn't have to pay that fee. And of course this was NOT disclosed in the initial quote. They will undoubtedly say there is a reference to "HIF" in the terms and conditions, but who knows what that means? I checked with two other companies to see if this fee is standard, but it is apparently unique to Economy. Bottom line: this is my second rental from Economy, and it will be my last. Their deceptive business practices are shameful.

omar abboud

Stay away from this place fake prices when you are booking they have the best prices and once you be there they will tell you that you need to pay like 3x times than the price you booked. And be careful with they cars really horrible customer service

Alcira Urrega

I make a reservation, when I was ready to pick the car they wants to charge additional $280 for insure... But I have my own insurance!! So I decided to cancel, for my surprise they put the money from my credit card and now they are not able to refund my money back. Don't try to use this company. You loosing your time and money.

Economy Rent a Car is the worst.rental experience I EVER had.. I rented a car two weeks ago for a week As I approached the counter, the agent asked me for my credit card and driver's licence. I told the agent that I will be using my comprehensive insurance. He told me that there a few additional charges that will be added on car because my insurance does not cover it. The additional charge will be $10 a day which equals out to $70.. I was so upset because my comprehensive insurance covers the rental. He also asked me if I want the SunPass added to my account .I said to him that I would use mine. He told me that I have to call SunPass to put it on. When I call SunPass they told me that the car is already on the account. When I called the office they told me to go back to the car rental office in Fort Lauderdale to put it on. When I got there they told me that they cannot put my SunPass on the car and that I would have to rent their SunPass or they would charge me $20 a day if I violate the rules of the SunPass. I said "WOW". That day was a MESS! I got the car online for $83.85 a week plus taxes total $127.02. When I left the counter I ended up paying $200+. I will NEVER rent a car from Economy Rent-A-Car again. Please make sure read the contract and reviews carefully before purchasing. The price looks very good online but when you reach to the counter additional insurance is needed. Sometimes it's better to pay more and have less headache.

Robert Jansen

I never write reviews. But this place is so bad I have no choice. Believe what you read about this company. You will end up paying about twice as much as quoted. I believe it's just a matter of time before they scam the wrong guy and we get some of our monies back through a class action lawsuit. This can't continue.

Mark Sulivan

1 DO NOT RENT FROM HERE 2 DO NOT RENT FROM HERE 3 DO NOT RENT FROM HERE Do not lured by their advertised price. You cannot win them because they are highly trained predatory instinct salespeople. You will pay additional 20 plus dollars a day top of your rental People on counter they will put you in position to buy their insurance They will hold 1000 dollars on credit card if you try to use your own insurance They don’t have live support you email them if you have issue and reply you back after five days.

Giorgi Maisuradze

Call before you make a reservation to avoid surprising fees. They charge around $10 daily fee for 'insurance handling' unless you buy coverage from them directly. In addition to it, they will try to get you the toll road equipment for additional $11 daily charge. Check if your route requires it. Most of the time you can get around using 'avoid toll' feature on google maps. You can also buy that equipment from local stores. Extra star for the shuttle service from/to thr airport. That's the only positive I have about the rip off car rental.

tshun harvin

I will never use this company ever again !! During booking I declined their insurance because I have my own full coverage insurance policy that covers me renting vehicles. I also had to pre pay for the car which was fine. When I went to pick up my car they told me since I declined to use their insurance company I had to pay some type of handling fee to use my insurance which was $88!!! Since I prepaid for the car I was unable to cancel the reservation because it was also non refundable. I should have listened to the reviews and went with another company. Do your self a favor pay an extra $20 or so to go with another rental company who will not charge you an astronomical fee for using your OWN insurance.

Anamelia Garcia

Rental agent Shenell A was very helpful and professional. In very stressful situation for my family she greated is with a welcoming smile so right away I knew I was in good hands!.

Sebastiano Todaro

Reserved online, for 300 USD got to the counter because i was from Canada they said id have to pay 550 USD to use my own insurance and 650 USD to use their insurance.. only gave 2 stars because i was able to cancel. I am never ever booking with his company again. Book with Dollar for a hassle free experience.

Craig Courteau

I waited for 45min to get up to the counter and the guy started arguing with me that the website told me I needed to bring a copy of my insurance coverage in order to avoid paying for their coverage...I am the kind of person that reads everything down to the fine print and it did not say a bloody thing about that requirement. This is not the first time I have rented a vehicle in Florida but is the only time I have dealt with this... Oh wait it gets even better...now I'm being told there is a HIF fee that was not advertised...good god run for the hills...Definitely would not recommend this place....

Deopersad Jaipersad

Better than expected... the reviews were so negative about this place...I was expecting higjly zealous sales pitches but no, nothing. They did ask for proof of insurance and a $500 credit card deposit. They offered the transponder which I declined and there was no fuss. But the $10/day is not a bad deal if you plan on using the car to drive a lot. I did not ask if there was a limit on miles. I am only using the car for no more than 100 miles in 3 days

Bettyleivis Besu

If I could give less of a star I would. Firstly, we weren't informed that we needed to buy insurance. When I tried to provide the one that i have they said it couldn't be used and that we had to buy theirs which was 20/day I believe. Then the fee of using a debit card? Not sure why they prefer credit card over debit. THEN, once the car got return they charged $7/gallon of gas if it wasn't full. NONE of what I just explained was informed to us until the day we arrived. They are a rip off!!!!!! They don't even provide a copy of the contract to go over the "fine prints". I'll be reporting them to the BB, they shouldn't be allowed to continue their business by scamming people. We went from $120 to having to pay a total of $620. I don't even know how. Would never recommend them to anyone.

Lavynder S

If anyone is a first time car renter I DO NOT recommenced Economy. My partner and I booked a reservation under the impression we would prepay on Friday and pick up the vehicle on Sunday yet when we went to the location they informed us we would need a credit card in order to rent a car yet no where on the website did it list this information. We are first time renters and it would have been more beneficial for that information to be on the website before accepting our money yet of course it did not turn out that way. Waste of time, wast of money and just to make it worst the guy at the front desk was not helpful whatsoever.

Colton Gray

STAY AWAY!!! Every negative review on here is correct. What seems to be the cheapest car rental you can get instantly becomes comparable to a nicer car elsewhere. Im sure the company will invite me to look at their policies, but my $140 rental ended up being $270. Such a scam for 3 days. It took over an hour to get our car once we got to their location. The person who serviced our car didn't even bother to look over the car to check for damages prior to us taking it. We had to point out a huge scratch that I am sure would have been charged to me. STAY AWAY! Please don't reply to this, Economy Rent a Car, unless you can can fix the bad experience I have had

Curvez Bell

Buyer BEWARE!!!!!! THIS PLACE IS SUCH A SCAM..... Don't be enticed by the low rate of the car... they will definitely scam you on the insurance side when you go to pick up... pay the extra money and go with a REAL company... This was a first and last experience with these scam artists. They don't tell you about the insurance bait and switch. They say you can use your own insurance. That is a joke also, it's set policy is an amount that nobody would carry... who carries 55 to 100k in liability insurance!!!!?????... I have a brand new lease and my insurance liability isn't that high. I'm with State Farm not some fly by night cut rate company. The average amount that 9 out of ten ppl carry is 25k Bottom line is the money you think you are saving by using this company they get that and more in the long run.... I wish I could give them a negative star... But 1 highlight is the representatives that work at the service counter in the Ft. Lauderdale office they have great customer service I think because they know their company is scam... they kill you with kindness...

Keith French

THEY DO NOT HAVE A NEGATIVE 0 RATING OR THEY WOULD GET THAT FROM ME. THIS COMPANY IS A VERY SHADY COMPANY AND CHARGES HIDDEN FEES THAT ARE NOT DISCLOSED WHEN YOU BOOK THE CAR. I BOOKED THROUGH EXPEDIA AND PREPAID...WOW WHAT A MISTAKE THAT WAS. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $1000.00 DEPOSIT BECAUSE I PREPAID WITH A DEBIT CARD. I AM NOW FIGHTING TO GET MY MONEY BACK. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO WRITE FORMAL COMPLAINT LETTERS TO THE BBB AND YOUR STATE GENERAL ATTORNEYS OFFICE THEN RENT A CAR FROM ECONOMY. THAT IS WHAT IS IN YOUR FUTURE DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY HAVE A PISS POOR RATING FOR A REASON. I JUST WISH I DID MY HOMEWORK BEFORE I GAVE THEM MY MONEY....PLEASE RENT FROM ANOTHER CAR RENTAL COMPANY....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!! I responded to your response and you have not got back to me. Once again even when you say you want to hear from a customer and I reply you just don't respond. You just show everyone that Economy Rent A car Sucks. Again anyone that is even thinking about dealing with these people YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!

Carlos Sucre

Great service All the time. excellent customer service, 1000% recommended!

Eric M

Avoid this place. First, it's no where near the airport. They make you take 2 shuttles to get to their location. Then once you get to them the wait is crazy long. And of course extra charges right and left. Extra driver cost if you paid in advance, toll road device etc. Save yourself a quarter of your day and chose some other rental company.

POOJA REDDY

FRAUD COMPANY!!! I want to give less than 1 star. Worst place never book a car from these guys. Fraud guys. We booked online and they asked for gieco insurance, when travelled all the way from MSP to MCO we went to them they are asking literally extra 20$ to pay per day. And since we booked online and when want to cancel it these people are not gonna refund even a single penny. FRAUD COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheyenne McKee

They were a tremendous help and also have a shuttle to pick you up from the airport.

Dee Morris

Be prepared if your gonna rent here. 1st don't rent with a debit card because they will charge an additional $84.00 to your reservation, which is not refundable either(only use credit card). Also you must bring your insurance declaration or policy showing you have full coverage on any of your personal vehicles to bypass all their b.s. You've been warned.

pavik

Dont rent car from that company . Extra days is 12.00 a day . Penalty fee for toll 25.00 To many fee charge later . I get car 5 days cost me 115 $ Extra 6 days I will paid 350.00 $ If u buy pas $10.00 a day . It is a lot . U never use 10$ a day for pass. Also a lot of fee charge after car drop off .if you need extra days do not make extation. Come drop off .find it difrent car .it is charge more of the $5.00 it is Monkey company .

Marjory Poues

Worst company ever, DO NOT RENT YOUR CAR OVER THERE. They charge you extra money when you get there, they ask you a bunch of stuff that they didn't ask before.

Robert Tolson

Bring you own insurance card/phone app. dont go southbound where a sun pass is needed and you won’t have all these “hidden fees” I read on other reviews. Added an extra driver etc $155 total no sun pass or temp insurance

Niraj Patel .

SCAM. Yes no one reads FINE print. If you are not SCAM then you should put it on BIG letter when we are renting the car online. Don't go there even its free cause fine print will say will charge you for using our shuttle. Very rude people. Obliviously they know they are SCAMMING people based on review reply. Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews before renting there. Left the office without renting car.

Rick B

Bait and switch! Do not use this company. Walked out went to Alamo Rent a car. I paid $278 for my car with insurance. When I go to pickup the car they tell me my insurance is no good. I will have to get there insurance for $450 additional. Also immediately after handing Juan my drivers licence and Credit card, charges starting hitting my card that i did not authorize. I had to cancel my credit card while traveling great way to start a trip! I repeat run away do not use this company. I'm in the process of reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.

Lori Dunham

Super friendly and helpful. Great rates. Basic vehicles but dependable.

Sly Austin

Negative, less than zero. RUN AWAY, The idea of saving money escaped upon check-in. Extra charges, needed to SEE insurance coverage, in order to decline & PUT $1,000 HOLD ON CREDIT CARD; because e declined their insurance. Not on airport location, we wasted 45- minutes to get the car. Then we received a car with over 67,000 miles on it, with scratches and small dents everywhere. We cautiously drove off the lot and the low tire pressure light started flashing. The vehicle drove like it was going to FALL APART. We wasted another hour, returning the car & NOT receiving any of the rental money back. Lesson learned - never consider this company.
