I booked my car online, reserved it and received no notification that I could not use a debit card at this car rental agency. I get all the way there, and the receptionist quite rudely refused to provide me a rental due to not having a credit card on me. They gave me a brochure to read and their terms & conditions says debit cards are accepted upon deposit. I called the corporate office and was told there was nothing they could do. Quite a shame they are so eager to turn business away so easily.

Walked in and agent immediately excused herself on a personal call. Came back a few minutes later and said she did not have cars to rent as everything is reserved. I said I had checked online at my hotel and there were plenty available. She stated she only had and SUV she could rent me. I went online, on my phone, at the counter, and was able to reserve a car immediately. She said I would have to come back in 1 to 2 hours as it would not be in her system until then. Received confirmation email immediately saying car was ready but she said I would have to wait. Guess I will need to rent from other companies in the future.

Not a great experience with this location. Employees tried to charge me for gas even though I filled up less than 5 minutes before returning and had the receipt to prove it. Turns out they were looking at the engine temperature gauge instead of the fuel level. When I pointed this out, they doubled down and claimed the fuel icon was supposed to change when it was full. Now that's a car feature I've never heard of... This was after a poor experience picking the car up. First was told to wait 30 minutes because my car wasn't ready, but they were more than happy to give me a different car for about ten bucks. Conveniently, they didn't mention that was per day... I turned them down and suddenly they did have the car I had booked. Two stars only because the car was clean and in decent shape.

Lady's here were amazing. I had no issues with anything and I even forgot something in the car and when I returned for it they said it was something they thought they got in the mail from one of their partners. Made my day since it was something I had made myself. Got a great deal on top of that. Will definitely use them again. Big plus was I didn't have to use a major credit card either.

We had to stand in line outside waiting for the very slooooow lady behind the counter. Took us more than 30-45 mins to get inside. She only waited on 3 people in front of us. Only thing I give them positive. Guy got out car fast. No discount for only using car 4 hours.

This is not a corporate location so if you are travelling for business, the e-receipt does not come through. They also do not provide you points for any rentals. the rental will not even show up on the Avis website or their app.

Good Location. Nice cars. Easy system. Price is okay. LDW cost is high. After hour drop-off available. I've rented it for several times, so far my experience is good. (Maybe it's because I always rent car during winter time low season) A form need to be filled out if drop-off after office hour, hope AVIS could offer a PEN next to the drop box!!

Best place ever...got my truck I requested last minute cheaper than the airport...had an issue with the truck and the guy at avis was the bomb by helping me out....Will rent from this location again...thank you..

Easy place to get a rental downtown Anchorage. Way less expensive than airport but the ladies there made me go all the way to the mall to get WiFi so I could download my rate even though they had my confirmation number!! Weird.

They always had my car ready fast. If you go thru orbitz, you can get it way cheaper. I've used them a few times, just make sure to request your ak air miles at the time or you won't get them...

Here is the story...I am at home, I didn't renter a car, have never rented from Avis and after this certainly never will... I get at a text from avis "You have not returned the vehicle on time and it will be reported stolen" I am thinking oh shoot! they have the wrong # I better call them and be a good person and let them know they have the WRONG NUMBER... I call ME: "hey just a text from you guys...you got the wrong #" just wanted to let you know...sorry to hear the car is stolen good luck" AVIS: well this is the number we got and we are reporting the vehicle stolen if you don't return ME: "sorry i don't have your car...I just being polite letting you know you are texting the wrong person" seriously...how dumb do you have to be? what about a "we apologize for bothering you on a Sunday night, we appreciate the call" It's called being a nice person! learn how to do it. 2 hours later...i get another text:) "we've reported the vehicle stolen" ...seriously

Avis Alaska... I was severely disappointed by my attempt to use their services. I made a reservation online using my debit card, several months in advance of my trip. No problem! Great price, easy system. Our trip finally arrives, we are dropped off by our cruise transportation, and walk two blocks to their store. I pull out my reservation number, they ask for a credit card. Here is the debit I used for the reservation. I was then told that they do not allow rentals without a credit card. I offer to leave a cash deposit (standard protocol, I have done this with 3 other agencies in 3 other countries); no, they won't take that either. They not only refused to honor my reservation, they then informed me that we were welcome to walk ourselves (in the rain, because... it is Alaska after all!) to Hertz, a "few" blocks away... they accept debit. Now, we are angrily walking through the rain... NINE BLOCKS. To find out... Hertz is closed on Saturdays! Now dripping, tired, and an hour late for our itinerary, we call around and find enterprise, who not only happily took my debit card and deposit, but came and picked us up in under 10 minutes. My advice? Never use Avis. I certainly won't ever again!

There was no information provided upon reservation that apparently these people don’t accept any payment other than credit card, and the reservation had been made with a debit card. So we made our way all the way over just to be told we couldn’t get our car since we don’t own credit cards. No explanation whatsoever was provided. We were forced to find a different car rental service last minute.

We came over on a medical flight from another island, we were hoping to get a quick, efficient, timely pick up to grab our car and get our day started as we only had 8 hours before it was time to leave. That was not the case. I would have hoped that they would make proper arrangements when you have 20+ reservations on a single day's itinerary. Instead we were met with a SMALL 6-7 passenger van and had to wait 30+ mins PER TRIP to finally be picked up. An hour and 1/2 AFTER we arrived, my family was finally taken to the office to pickup our vehicle. Drop off was efficient for us. Pick up on the other hand was not. PLAN AHEAD, it's a tiny office, shouldn't be THAT hard when you have RESERVATIONS. We'll see about trying them again next time.

I went a little reluctant bearing in mind the bad reviews. However, my experience was entirely the opposite: the staff was courteous, and advice me for the better car for winter conditions that fitted in my budget. After the rental, they even send an email thanking for using their services. Overall: an excellent customer service!

I spoke to someone who was incredibly rude. She claimed to be the manager, was talking over me and wasn't helpful. All I wanted to do was to understand their policy because I had rented a car that was more expensive than the one I saw online so I made a reservation for the one online and tried to see if I could trade the original car I had for the new one. The problem was that I had to return my rental at 1pm and my new reservation was for 3pm. Even though she told me that i could still keep the car I had, she was going to charge me $29 for the 2 hour difference. Huh? Makes no sense if I was just paying $35 for the day. So I tried to get some understanding and here comes the attitude, ridiculous. I wouldn't rent with them again, they were the worst part of My trip.

Literally the worst experience. They do not accept whatever discount or coupon you will come previously prepared with. If you book your rental car online prior to coming to Anchorage, the estimate that you were given will be wrong (my total cost ended up being $300 more than expected). Customer service was terrible as they have one person at the desk helping you with 30 people waiting in line. Overall terrible experience. Finally I get back home and I get a $60 added charge to my credit card. There was no notice from Avis. I would never book from them again.
