I worked with Charlesgate twice - once to rent an apartment on Mass Ave 3 years ago and then again to buy the condo I currently live at in South End. I was super impressed both times by the way they handled everything. My rental agent showed me things that specifically matched what I wanted and helped me negotiate some things with the landlord to make my move easy. When I went to buy, I have a few hiccups regarding credit and such but they connected me with a lender that helped me work all these things. When I was looking for places, they were super easy to work with and connect around my schedule. They also really went to bat for me with negotiations and walking me through buying my first home (which kinda seemed overwhelming to me!) Since moving in, I have given their name out quite a few times and heard some great feedback from friends.

My wife and I moved from Detroit to Boston in Dec-2017, after Christmas. It was already holiday season and the winter was also harsh. This was our first time moving to a new city. We barely knew anyone in Boston. We connected with Shauna Porter through one of her listings. The process of finding an apartment is already hard in months when an academic session is not starting; the search was made difficult further by our changing requirements. First, we wanted to live in downtown but then in the middle of our search; we had to decrease the targeted rent by 20%. Now, we wanted to live close to any station along a certain subway line for a lower rent. Shauna was open and honest about how much value we were getting from our options. Shauna was always there with a new list that matched our new requirements and was ready to show us the properties in harsh winter. We finally liked an apartment after a month of apartment hunting. But was also, all within a few weeks time...such a great help finding my mom and family a place as well when our house sold. I've lived at the Boston View apartments for 4 years and I have nothing but good things to say about the management and staff. First off the location of the building can't be beat. It is walking distance to everything and Bowdoin street is very well shoveled in the winter since it borders the State House. Also if you commute during normal hours you can park right in front of the building in state house parking after 6pm on weekdays and all day on weekends. The staff at the building is very attentive. We've never waited more than a day for a maintenance request. There hasn't really been a problem with things breaking but occasionally an AC unit stops working or a sink gets clogged. After I email the staff I can count on it being resolved when I get back from work. Charlesgate management is always doing things to make the building and units nicer. Last year they replaced the carpet in our unit with much nicer laminate flooring that made our apartment look so much better. All for free and completely finished in one day! We've loved our time at Boston View and would recommend living here to anyone.

Zero star rating. In less than 1 year in a 1 bedroom Beacon Hill apt I experienced: mice & cockroaches in unit, rats in basement where laundry was located, hole in basement door they never fixed when the rat issue was rose, bathroom tiles fell apart, soap holder fell off the shower wall while I was in it, gas leak in oven, packages opened and stolen from mail room, hot water and heat was broken for 4 months during the winter (would got 10 hours without not heat/hot water at least 1-2 days a week), tenants had a brawl on the first floor outside my unit and threw glass, cops came-- glass never cleaned up, trash wast left in basement and having a front door by the basement door was disgusting. All in all, I emailed the property manager with a new complaint EVERY week. It took months if something would be fixed. Mostly received a BS response with no action. Realtor also left the door unlocked. I shouldn't have to email a reminder to lock my front door... The company changed the front door lock and gave tenants about 36 hours to go to their Bolyston office between 9 -5pm on a Monday and the locks were changed the next Tuesday. Zero consideration for any tenants having to work, be out of town etc. Terrible, terrible, terrible company.

I wish it were possible to give 0 stars. Please take these reviews seriously. I along with several other neighbors have been subject to ridiculous bills, lack of responsiveness, and what appears to be sheer apathy of this company. It feels like a sloppy attempt at luxury housing. My apartment even had crevices unpatched. Some tenants have reported concerns of rodents. Tenants are paying top dollar for what appears to be low quality. Do not be enticed by the model units. As with any apartment search, ask residents about their experience and make sure they are really residents! None of us that are experiencing cold nights or inflated bills will lead you astray. Also, ask about resident retention. Residents have mentioned how they are breaking their leases. It is sad to experience this and hear how dissatisfied others are too! Learn from the mistakes of others. Be a smart consumer.

My apartment has stayed on the market for 3 months for rental and nothing happened. After switched to Shauna, it was rent out in a short time! . Shauna worked around clock and always got back to us immediately whenever we have questions, even in the late night, nice communication and efficiency! ! She is very responsible person. she deserves 5 stars! I will recommend her to my friends if possible. Thanks Shauna!

He spent the whole day with me showing properties that were right on target for what we were looking for and assisted us with buying a fabulous property in Back Bay. He is a local Boston guy—-so knows the various neighborhoods and streets. He is smart and patient and helped us every step of the way with our purchase.

Day 1 of our $2600/mo rental, our apartment had a gas leak and was not cleaned prior to our move in. (read: trash and slime all over). Charlesgate Realty Group (CGR) was unresponsive. We had to call National Grid to shut off the gas leak. CGR declared they fixed the problem and turned the gas (and leak) on 3 days later. The issue took CGR 22 days to fix which left us without gas and unable to cook for over three weeks. Be on the look out for the realtors all vacationing on September 2nd. Other issues upon move in included malfunctioning A/C, kitchen faucet, and dishwasher. CGR was unresponsive to email, calls, and texts. They ignored all communication. It wasn't until our lawyer got involved and we threatened to report CGR to Boston Board of Health that the group addressed the issues. We will be moving out when this one year lease terminates. I would highly recommend NOT living under CGR and instead living with GTI, Greater Metro RE or another realty group in the city.

After what felt like decades of trying to find a decent apartment in Boston, I was delighted to be contacted by Shauna Porter. Although the apartment I was originally interested in did not allow students, she was happy to go out of her way and find a building that worked for me. Most agents in Boston that I had previously contacted were not interested in working with me because I was moving from out of state, however for Shauna it was no problem. 10/10 would recommend if you’re looking to rent in Boston!

If there was a zero star option.. I would pick it. Charlesgate and the representative, James Brault, was by far the worst property management that I have worked with to handle a rental With NUMEROUS complaints over a rodent issue in our Dorchester home, James failed to extensively take care of the issue...until we were in the last month of our lease and new tenants were needed. The complaints were filed originally in November, and were not taken seriously until May. When a pest control employee told me the next steps would involve the pest control employee needing a maintenance representative from Charlesgate available next time, I let James know...multiple times...and not once was someone sent so that the job could be done properly. At points pest control employees would show up with NO given notice. The pest control employee was not surprised we weren’t informed. He even stated that Charlesgate did not want to spend money on more expensive equipment to ensure the rodents were gone from the home. During one of the windiest nights in January, one of our windows blew out in the middle of the night, leaving the downstairs unbearable to be in-it was below freezing. James lacked to communicate on when we would actually be recieving a new window installment. Seeing as we, as tenants, were overpaying for gas heat, to ensure comfortable living conditions, you would think he would have expedited the process instead of solving it with taping over the window. Something I could have easily done myself. When a representative came to tape up the window, he noticed our heaters were producing too much steam. His solution? Tape and putting it on the list of repairs. He was also kind enough to let me know that this extensive steam could cause mold issues. Something that occured in the master bedroom upstairs in a previous winter while my roommate first started living there. But still.. left unfixed. We requested a statement on what needed to be done for a full return of our security deposit. Our email was ignored- no reason as to why. Not until Mid-June did James answer explaining we needed to send an new address to recieve the payment. Almost a month to answer, after another email was sent...not surprised. A major part of us choosing not to resign our lease was directly connected to the fact that the management company lacked on taking care of us, their tenants. We were not complaining about the lack of care our landlord had in regards to the cosmetics of our house. Our issues were genuine and Charlesgate was minimally caring or responsive.

Charlesgate Reatly Group and property management team for the Boston View apartments have been quick to respond to question & concerns. Shauna Porter with Charlesgate Realty showed us the Boston View Apts (in early July 2018) and quickly worked with us to apply for the apartment (move in date Sept 2018). Maintenance request have been completed with in a business day or 2. The property management team has been very communicative on updates on renovations with in the building.

She took all the stress out of the search, providing us with multiple options that fit or might fit what we were looking for. This was a stressful search for me as it was my first year searching for an apartment with my new dog - but her professionalism, constant communication, open dialogue, and tireless efforts took all of the stress out of the search for us - we found our perfect place within two weeks!
