Based on years of experience Dr. Levy can almost immediately identify the crux of the problem, regardless of whether it's behavioral, cognitive or emotional, and almost in the next breathe get you on a solutions path that works for the child, parents and family. .... why did we spend years in "play therapy" or trying to figure out why our little guy did what he did? Every month we wasted not going to Dr. Levy was a month we lost with our son. Our son, now an adult, believes that Dr. Levy was one of the very few professionals that he saw that really "got" him and the only doctor that had any solutions to turn his behavior around.

While I was a child my parents and I went to Dr. Levy because I was having problems at home, and I was a difficult child. Im now 23 and am a happy, healthy, and comfortable adult. While he was skilled at identifying the root causes of a child's problems, his methods of dealing with them were inappropriate to say the least. When I would act out when I was younger he instructed my parents to take me down to the floor and hold me there. As I got older(around middle school) he instructed them to lock me in a room for a minimum of 8 days. The first day I would be locked in there the whole day, the second I would get one hour out, the third I would get two hours out, and so on and so on up to 8 days. If I had any problem at all on any of those days such as talking back, getting a bad grade on a homework assignment, or any number of other things, I would go back down to day one. I spent 3 months in that room once. I was in a couple other times too and spent 1 and two months respectively. Every other therapist I had talked to in my teens had said those methods are absolutely appalling. While they may be somewhat effective, I and every therapist I've talked to about it believe they cause more harm in a child's mind than they do good. Please be aware of this before you go see him. Edit: Regarding the review questioning my review, I began seeing him when I was very young and in elementary school in the early 2000’s. His methods may have changed since then but my experience with him remains the same.

Without a doubt, Dr. Ray Levy was the key to turning our child around. He listened, evaluated, and recommended to us as parents the best approach to help our child struggling with depression and anxiety. We didn't even realize that anxiety was a component of the depression, but once he explained what he thought was going on, it made complete sense. This enabled us to make the best decisions going forward and Dr. Levy helped us every step of the way. I truly believe he helped save our child and get us all back on track to a happy healthy life. Dr.Levy is brilliant, cares deeply, and is truly outstanding. Highly recommend!

I’ve had some type of issue with each of my kids, one being the most difficult to deal with. He has helped with every issue, including marital. He’s the best family counselor we’ve been to and we went through a number prior to finding him. Don’t know what the one star reviewer is talking about as he has NEVER advocated locking children in their room, even with my most oppositional child. I’ve recommended him to other friends as he advocates responsibility and consequences for the children.

A good friend recommended reading Try and Make Me!! It helped me better understand a defiant child and how to help them! The practice academy chapter was very helpful!! I enjoyed reading it! I have recommended it to others!!

Brilliant guy. FYI this may seem obvious to some but he's brilliantly successful in helping people change. So, if you're not interested in changing your own responses and thought processes so that you can change your kid's responses and thought processes, he's probably not your guy. If you're thinking a pill will change everything or you're waiting for a medicine change to take care of things then by all means go ahead and try that - but Dr. Levy's brilliance isn't helping you test out meds that will cure your kid's behavior. When you are ready, you'll know that medicine is an important piece of the puzzle but medicine does not modifiy behavior. At that point Dr. Levy can and will help.

Dr Ray Levy and his book TRY and MAKE ME absolutely changed my family’s life and my professional life forever for good! I was crying every day over my youngest child’s behaviors at home and school until I heard Dr. Levy present on strong-willed children! His techniques helped me understand my child, improved my relationship with my child and helped me help others both personally and professionally! His book is wonderful for parents and educators and easy to read and understand. I will forever be grateful to Dr. Levy for his expertise and his techniques. The most important thing that Dr. Levy gave me and my family is HOPE! Hope that things would get better and that all kids deserve happy and healthy relationships with their family and educators.
