REVIEWS OF Pasadena Villa Psychiatric Residential Treatment Centers Smoky Mountain Lodge IN Tennessee

I was a resident at Smoky Mountain Lodge for three months and the stay was phenomenal. The therapists, techs, nurses, and psychiatrists are caring and kind-hearted- they definitely go above and beyond the expectations of their jobs. I was treated with respect and was well taken care of. The facility is absolutely beautiful and food is delicious! I am forever grateful for Pasadena Villa!

Our son was a resident at Pasadena Villa for almost 3 months. He has a thought/personality disorder along with traumatic brain injury and substance misuse. He admittedly was a very difficult case and Pasadena did take him when other places would not. I think they tried, but there were several things I would suggest. 1) I would have liked the facility to consider weekly calls from the therapist to us privately on how my son was really doing, IN ADDITION to the weekly family sessions over the phone with my son. The family sessions were not very productive and open because the therapist was trying to put a positive spin on things to be encouraging which is certainly important and she allowed my son to lead the meeting but he did little talking. So we never had a really honest clear picture of progress or problems. Clearly he was not liked by a large portion of residents and other problems. We needed to know these things. 2) When my son went to step-down housing they promised they would get him to a job site to work 2-3 days per week. Part of the therapeutic process. Pasadena self-admittedly dropped the ball on that promise and could not get him there. He missed out on a job offer because of it. They then said that he could volunteer 4 hrs a week which was a big disappointment and frustrating. This led to much more free time for him and of course he was at the main lodge during the day with no where to go to relax because he no longer had a room there. 3) Unfortunately, my son became aggressive at one point and was taken to a psych hospital. I do not blame Pasadena for doing this at all. What was frustrating and heartbreaking was that after almost 3 months of being in their care and with over $40,000 invested, Pasadena basically washed their hands of him and I had to beg them to get input on what to do next. We were not from the area and not familiar at all. My son is on an antipsychotic monthly injection and was released from the psych hospital yesterday and we do not even know where he is or if he has been giving the medication. He does not have his belongings which are still at Pasadena. I have yet to have a call by Pasadena to see if he’s ok. It’s so tragically sad.

I don't think I am being dramatic when I say that sending my daughter to Pasadena Villa saved her life. My daughter was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder in 2009, was hospitalized for about 10 days and then managed the disorder with medication until 2016. She not only managed it, she overcame it to complete high school, then college with a 4.0 grade point average. She was completing her Master's degree when she determined that her medication was giving her side effects that could become permanent. Her despair led her to attempt suicide in March of 2016. After a short hospitalization she jumped right back into her hectic schedule, which proved to be too much for her to handle. She started tinkering with her meds and her behavior became more and more erratic until she was involuntarily committed to the first hospital of six in seven months. Let me stress that she was hospitalized for SEVEN months. After four months of local hospitalization in four different hospitals and no progress, we took her to Pasadena Villa in Tennessee. It is an absolutely beautiful facility with an idyllic location in the middle of the mountains. Our daughter was allowed to go outdoors for the first time in four months. Pasadena Villa's caring staff nursed our daughter back to health and was the first hospital out of six to correctly diagnose and medicate her. We have our bright, beautiful daughter back and we could not be more grateful. She has almost completed her Master’s degree, is living independently, has a job and several other job opportunities. God forbid if her health declined once more we know where we would send her without hesitation, to Pasadena Villa Smoky Mountain Lodge.

The place is a scam. The food sucks and there's never enough of it. The groups only cover very basic material. I spent a week at Pasadena Villa before I tried to leave, instead they had me committed to a mental hospital, they wouldn't let me take my clothes with me, they threw away about $60 worth of food I had bought at Dollar General, they kept 14 packs of cigarettes that I had. I got my clothes back after getting out of the hospital, except for a coat I had in my room. I got more, better food and treatment when I was Buffalo Valley. Pasadena Villa is set up to look first class, but it's all fake. Clients clapped when they presented the meals, but it's never any good.

As a referring professional I gauge my program options on specific criteria such as reviews of patients placed at a program, follow through by staff working within the program, ability to communicate with staff serving the population, and experiences of others doing similar placements at the given program. No one program can 'fix' an individual. What does happen at SML from my experiences is an improvement of the life of the patient by providing successive connected opportunities.

It is hard for me to adequately express how grateful I am to Pasadena Villa. The team at Pasadena Villa, quite literally, saved the life of my loved one and I will be forever grateful. The care my loved one got, from every single team member at Pasadena Villa, could not have been better. If you find yourself, or a loved one, in need of a treatment facility please consider Pasadena Villa.

Pasadena Villa provided a first-rate therapeutic program. The staff was exceptionally caring and responsive to family requests to be kept informed, also well versed in a range of therapies which were tailored to individual needs. Unlike other residential treatment centers we explored, PV had the best approach to social integration, offering supervised opportunities to go into town, for example, to have coffee, see a movie, go bowling, giving residents a sense of autonomy. The variety of classes and experiences offering different tools to deal with problems, along with recreational classes (incl. Yoga), and individual and group sessions, help make PV unique.

When a team of health professionals tell you that your adult child needs duel diagnosis treatment at a residential facility, and recommend only a few places, it’s a difficult thing to process. There are so many questions, and how do you know if a program will be the right one for your loved one? After talking to health professionals and the admissions team at Pasadena Villa, we decided on Pasadena for mental health and substance abuse treatment. After a bit of a rough start, which I now understand is normal for patients, our daughter was paired with a therapist who was really able to help her make some good progress. Also, the psychiatrist, nurses, and techs were supportive and helpful. I was able to communicate with the therapist, and other members of the treatment team when I had concerns. The ability to have good communications with the therapist and treatment team was a strong point of the treatment experience at Pasadena Villa. At the end of the day, you have to decide if a program is right for your loved one, but don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions to help you decide.

Pasadena Villa took care of my loved one in a way that I will forever be grateful for. The staff was very friendly and supportive and showed so much love and compassion. Anything that I had an issue with was resolved quickly and respectfully. I would recommend this treatment centre to others as it gave us hope and we can now see a future for our loved one. We are very grateful.

It is very difficult finding resources for mental illness where you are treated with respect and the staff is experienced with the different conditions, medications and treatment plans. Pasadena Villa was a good experience for our loved one from admissions to doctor care and all levels in between. They were welcoming to family visits and keeping us updated. We were there 3 months and they helped find the right plan for the future upon discharge as with some illnesses there is more care needed and medication adjustments. It was costly so glad to see they have added some insurance plans which is very helpful.

Holly Rickel

It won't give an accounting so your insurance can cover at least half also my daughter was declared better over a year ago and is still jobless

Carol Johnson

Scenery is beautiful, as well as the facility itself. Nursing staff, doctor and mental health techs suck. This is a very overpriced place

Cynthia Garrison

Pasadena Villa gave me my sister back when other places would't try due to dual diagnosis. They helped us at a very scary time. they were nice to us. It was pricey up front but the were upfront. No surprises.

As previous reviews have stated, Pasadena is after your money. I stayed there for only 4 or so days, but I my time there was bad. The nurses and techs are spread thin and rude, and I only met with my therapist once for 15 minutes my entire stay there. I had another meeting planned with my therapist but she cancelled our appointment without telling me. Patients either sit on their phones all day in their rooms or the open area, or they sit on their phones in group. Patients aren’t expected to go to all groups or meals, so they don’t. The level of care Pasadena sells you is a lie to say the least. On top of that, after 4 days living there (over $900 a day), Pasadena informed my family that insurance was not covering my stay even though Pasadena told us I was being covered and we paid them $5000 for my stay. I caught the staff at Pasadena lying to me several times as well. Lots more happened than what I can put in a review, but I urge anyone looking for quality care to count this place out.

I spent 2 months at Pasadena Villa Smokey mountain Lodge . My experience was nothing but fantastic . I had a great team of therapist psycologist and a great team of tech A and B team. The nurses where always willing to answer any questions. I would recommend this facility in the future !

As a family member of a resident of Smokey Lodge, I can truly say after 4 months of working with heir team and flying up to meet members in person, our family could not be happier with the care my brother received. The staff goes above and beyond to be there both in teaching/assisting their residents, but also provides a level of friendship and community my brother needed. It’s heart breaking enough to have to have a family member be that far away, yet when I called, the staff answered and assured me of my brothers care and well being. We are entirely grateful for my brothers stay.

There are very few resources in this country for parents of an adult child who is struggling with mental health issues and substance abuse. I can't thank the staff at Pasadena Villa enough for helping my son to get the help he desperately needed while being treated with respect. He was a resident for about 2 months and in that time he finally found the right combination of medication while learning how to deal with his condition. His therapist had a weekly call with us to discuss his progress and the plans for the next step after Pasadena. Our initial call was with the treating physician as well. Our son loved the group outings and pet therapy. I highly recommend talking with the admissions staff if you are looking for help. They did a thorough review of our sons case, including talking with us about his past in order to assess if this was an appropriate place for him. I'm forever grateful.

Met my soulmate here hell yes!

If I could rate this place with zero stars I would. I was having some serious mental health problems and they decided that I was not a good fit for their facility while I was ready to discharge from Peninsula mental hospital. They refused to help me find another facility and did not care that I had no way to get back home in arkanas. They sent my things to the mental hospital but not all of my things were there. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Chandler Mitchell

This facility completely changed my life. there was a time where i wasnt able to speak or eat and now im a productive part of society working two jobs, living on my own, and paying my own bills. I was taught techniques and ways to keep myself stable to keep myself going. I owe this place so much for getting me to where I am today. I never thought I would "live" again but here I am.

We were thankful to find Pasadena Villa Smoky Mountain Lodge. The staff was excellent. The therapist and the doctor were very good at keeping us informed at what was going on. They quickly replied to emails and we had scheduled calls throughout the week. The food was surprisingly good for an "institution". Our son gained about 25 pounds during the 4 weeks he was there! The setting is peaceful and quiet. They were accomodating to us coming to visit and taking him out to eat or to a movie and we liked having the option to do things like that. They have an art room and once a week they could drive about 30 mins to a nearby stable and ride horses. This was a welcome break. They also were helpful in the transition process back to our hometown. The process of dealing with insurance and other places is a bit overwhelming so we appreciated their helpfulness with all that. The only real downside was sometimes there was chaos with and among the other residents. That however is just dependent on who happens to be there at any given time. It's not a place that we want to go back to, of course! But it was just the right place for what we needed when we needed it. We are very thankful for all they did for us.

AVOID THIS PLACE! ALL THEY SEE IS MONEY$$$ Huge bait and switch, they tell you one thing and treat you with respect but as soon as you sign those papers things change. the director is a incompetent, lying, insincere person. when i decided i had enough of them mistreating me i learned how uncooperative they become, they wouldn't give me my things back and wouldn't let me talk to the doctor. when i called my personal doctor to report my medication being withheld from me the pasadena vila ppl wouldn't give me the # of their doctor so i could give that to mine so i could get my things. around this time a new family is their and i tell them all about this, and their treatment of people, how the staff can be heard making fun of people... 10 mins later the nurses are yelling for me saying they will give me my stuff. DONT TRUST THESE PEOPLE, ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY!!$$$$ this place should be shut down or get new management.

Most relaxing outpatient place I have been to. If your insurance can handle it, I’ve heard it’s like $20,000 a month. The place is nice and the rooms are nice except my bed was really hard. You don’t have to go to any groups and the best part is my insurance couldn’t handle it so my parents moved me to a transitioning home where I am at right now after a month of being there. I ended up being in my phone and 2DS in my room for a few weeks. I had a good room mate. They also let people here smoke which I don’t. The food is mostly good except sometimes they didn’t have breakfast. Wish there was more of the food because they make it really good and everyone eats it and there are a lot of people there. Everyone there was nice. The view of the mountain is comforting. They want you to go to groups to go out though which is the only negative. One of the girls was there over two months. There are about 5 ish groups a day. They have everything planned on papers and the white board every morning. Some people complained about the staff not able to give them medication but I only take a shot once a month. Really recommend going here.

One of my relatives spent 3 months at Pasadena in the Smoky Mountains .. Struggling with Autism Spectrum Disorder with bouts of Psychosis . I visited on a couple of occasions during that time and besides being a fabulous facility they got the job done . With 3 to 4 Group Therapy sessions daily along with one on one sessions . They were able to wean off the medication and the difference has been tremendous. They are not a lock up facility. Actually, they use an integration method so they have their boarders spend time in outdoor , in community activities. From Golf, to bowling and hiking, every weak. Along with visits to shops to buy personal supplies . Highly recommend !!!

UPDATE: 3/28/19 - Please Note: Update refers to billing process only; not the care received! We recently received a notice from a collection agency about a past-due bill from Renaissance Healthcare Group (Pasadena Villa); however, we never received a single statement from Pasadena Villa for charges our insurance company did not pay. On March 22, 2019 (7 months post-discharge) we receive notice that the account has been turned over to collections. Never once were we contacted by phone, email, or postal mail that there was an outstanding balance. We have been attempting to resolve this matter with Pasadena Villa for almost a week now and no one will respond to our phonecalls/emails. It is very disappointing that an expensive, highly-regarded facility such as this conducts business in this manner. The care was 5 star; the billing and invoice handling is a 0. Beware - they will not send you an invoice but rather turn you over to a collection agency without giving you the opportunity to resolve. Pasadena Villa/Smoky Mountain Lodge made such a difference for our daughter and consequently, our family. She has been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and Borderline Personality Disorder. She was hospitalized in an acute care behavioral health hospital for these issues for approximately one month before moving to Smoky Mountain Lodge. The admissions counselor was warm, understanding and professional and was able to put our minds at ease. Our daughter's therapist was wonderful as well. He had a great rapport with our daughter and was able to help steer her toward making informed decisions and not just always having to react to circumstances that life throws at you. He regularly communicated with us and we were able to engage in telephone family sessions, which we felt were very informative and beneficial. Through the treatment that our daughter has received there, we have seen a tremendous difference in her ability to deal with certain aspects of her past and be able to move on with her life without being completely sidelined by her problems on a daily basis. The social integration model used at Smoky Mountain Lodge was very beneficial, as our daughter has issues with social anxiety and meeting new people. She was able to participate in group therapy sessions all throughout the day and attended several outings with other residents. Smoky Mountain Lodge was a wonderful opportunity for our daughter.

Smoky Mountain Lodge & Pasadena Villa in Tennessee was very welcoming and supportive to our family and our son who was just coming out of a first inpatient experience. We found that having a facility to bridge the gap between the hospital and real life was exceedingly helpful. Nicole was an awesome counselor and Tony was very informative during the admission process. While our hope is to not need this facility again in the future it is comforting to know that it exists if we do.

Overpriced and worthless.

The treatment our son received at Pasadena Villa was superb. The staff - from admissions and administration on down, were courteous and kind; and Dr. K, the psychiatrist, was incredibly knowledgeable in changing and adjusting our son's medications. The facility itself is reminiscent of a beautiful ski chalet, nestled in the Smoky Mountains. And I cannot say enough good things about our son's therapist, Robin. Robin was a wonder worker, helping to affect a remarkable, positive change in our son. Unlike the other center (see below), it was much easier to get information about our son's treatment, and the weekly family therapy sessions via phone were expertly handled by Robin, as well. Some background: our son, who is on the Autism Spectrum, had severe problems during his first quarter at college, and had deteriorated to such a state that he was told he had to take a medical leave of absence. My wife flew with him to a very famous treatment center in Arizona that said they knew how to treat patients on the spectrum. Not only did they not know how to properly deal with our son, he ended up much worse, and eventually we were told he could no longer get treatment there. We had heard good things about Pasadena Villa during our initial research, and that they had particular skill in treating those on the Autism Spectrum (although that wasn't our son's only problem, at all). This time, the positive reputation was deserved.

Family and loved ones of individuals with complex psychiatric disorders coupled with addiction should strongly consider Pasadena Villa. Their care management team approach toward developing life and coping skills is highly effective in expanding quality of life issues, not only for the residents, but also their families. They take a macro, "whole body" approach by utilizing various patient-specific therapies and techniques. Pasadena Villa provides a safe and nurturing environment while offering transitioning levels of care. They succeed where others fail.

Our 18 year old son suffers with major depressive disorder and was a patient at Pasadena Villa for about 60 days at the beginning of 2018. Overall our experience was very favorable. The staff was wonderful and my son had only positive things to say about his interactions with them. They were professional, kind and truly helped him get his feet back on steady ground. When dealing with mental health issues, I think it is always difficult to know if you're making the right choice for your loved one. There will be frustrations along the way and we had a few during this period of time, but overall our experience was quite good and I would definitely use this facility again should the need ever arise.

Kate Smith

Pasadena Villa Smoky Mountain Lodge facility and staff are excellent. We found that the medical system is ill equipped to treat mental illness. Physical issues coupled with mental health issues had reached life threatening status. We are exceedingly grateful to have found the program at Pasadena Villa where the facility and the staff really supported the healing process - for the patient and the family. The patient needed physical and mental healing and the staff ensured that all of his needs were addressed. Recovery is a lifelong process, but the support we received through the program at Pasadena Villa has given us hope for the future.

An amazing community with compassionate, caring staff.

Pros: 1. Able to express concerns to my daughter's therapist, and have them addressed in a timely manner. 2. Variety of therapies available: CBT, DBT, individual therapy, animal assisted therapy, social outings, etc. Exercise equipment available. 3. Beautiful accommodations, with no more than 2 persons per room. Bathrooms in each bedroom. Laundry facilities available onsite. 4. Great food service, nutrition concerns addressed. 5.The director followed up in a timely manner when we had issues getting our daughter's prescriptions sent to her pharmacy after discharge. 6. They worked with us to make it as affordable as possible after insurance stopped covering my daughter's stay. 7. They just became in-network with Anthem BCBS. Cons: 1. Disappointed that I did not get to speak to my daughter's therapist at discharge, even though she was aware I was coming to pick her up and still had questions that needed to be addressed. 2. Animal assisted therapy was never made available to my daughter the entire 6 weeks she was there, even though she requested the opportunity. 3. Even though I expressed my concerns regarding my daughter's access to social media, I was told "they are not able to remove cell phones, computer/internet access" from residents. This is something that should be available in an individual's personal plan of care/treatment, ESPECIALLY if the patient has a problem with social media. My daughter was able to continue to cause problems with persons/situations at home, even though I expressed these concerns to her therapist and asked her to have some restrictions to these devices. 4. It took several weeks to get transportation set up for my daughter to attend church services, even though this was requested on admission and several times while she was there. Overall, it was a good experience for us. I wish there was a more spiritual component to the program, which my daughter desperately needed. It is difficult to find good programs on one's own, and this one was recommended by the local acute care behavioral health facility in our area.

Our family utilized Pasadena to help a loved one and we were so comforted by the level of care, attention, and concern shown to us, especially from the program director. Working in mental health can be a thankless job, I’m sure, but my family is stronger because of the care the team and staff gave.

We had a very positive experience at Smokey Mountain Lodge with my son's treatment protocol and are very happy we sent him there.

Crooks. $24k a month to live in a "Posh" environment. They are incompetent and running a business, not a care facility. I came from working in DC, used to working and collaborating. That didn't happen here. Their rec team and cooking staff is great. The rest is not up to standards. Someone got beat in the face with a skateboard while they were sleeping in their room at night. We had previously warned the executive director that this particular male was targeting this female as he had already appeared in her room at night unannounced. They made no efforts to fix this. My parents spent $72k and I'm still just as bad as I ever was.

I had to recently make the very difficult decision to admit my 19 year old son to a residential psychiatric facility. He has struggled for the last couple of years with his issues. We had been trying to find the right place throughout this process - without great success. Pasadena Villa Smoky Mountain Lodge was our answer! The staff there is thoughtful and very caring. When he arrived there he was very lost and struggling greatly. With the help of the amazing therapists there he found his balance in life and the proper medications to help him. I'm so grateful he spent time there. And I am grateful to the amazing therapist that helped him through this difficult time. Mental health is a very difficult struggle to have to deal with - thank goodness there's Pasadena Villa to make the journey a bit easier.

Pasadena Villa provided a therapeutic setting for our loved one. All staff members were extremely kind, caring, and patient. They welcomed input from family and friends and engaged in a variety of treatment modalities. Clyde was always responsive to our requests and brought a tremendous amount of caring and patience to his work each and every day. The nurses, aides, and support staff should all be commended for their dedication to helping others. The facility is beautiful with incredible views, wonderful gardens, and an enclosed porch which facilitates healing and recovery.

Misleading from the admissions process through discharge. Promises made and never kept. False advertising on website with high staff to patient ratio. There was a very high turnover of staff during my sister's 6 week stay (i believe she said 4 therapists, which caused several group therapies to be cancelled). This is not a horseback riding facility. We had several conversations with admissions staffers regarding my sister riding horses at this facility. This was the primary reason we chose Pasadena Smoky Villa, so my sister could ride horses as we feel it is vital to her stay. She asked about bringing riding gear: boots, saddle, etc. They said they didn't provide much gear so that would be OK, no indication of what the facility actually provided. Once we arrived, the last 10 minutes of our visit admitting my sister, we were informed the stables were "under construction". Only in the following week when I followed up with her therapist (not on the day we met when we admitted my sister) were we told by the therapist that there would be no "real" horseback riding. The horse sessions were frequently cancelled and in 6 weeks my sister spent at the facility, she rode twice. If you come here for that, find somewhere else. The admitting therapists were shocked and surprised and apologized profusely for the misleading information provided to us, despite us sharing with them in our introductory session that we were excited that Pasadena offered horseback riding. They mentioned nothing of the stables or the lack of "real" horseback riding during the admissions process. We also have video of staff members indicating that the admissions team will say and do anything to get your money and get you in the door, including lying about the treatments to be received and the facility conditions. This was appalling to see and hear. Throughout my sister's treatment, we lacked communication with the staff, and feel there was gross negligence at best and borderline malpractice at worst. She came in with a known medical issue, and bloodwork and testing was not taken for this medical issue nor addressed for over 2 weeks. Several calls and emails go unanswered, despite the team promising follow-ups. It has taken my entire family dozens of calls and emails to get the information we need. As far as discharge, they left my sister to her own devices, and did not set up any appointments for her, was told to "do it herself" despite their promises from the day we dropped her off that their mission is to ensure a smooth discharge and follow-on treatment so she can manage on her own. She is now going on 2 weeks without follow-up treatment, as the facility did not participate in the discharge process, as promised, and withheld medical records for 10 days, causing delay in continuing treatment. Within that 10 days, we did not have anyone from the facility return phone calls or emails. It took 10 days from my sister's discharge to receive a response from anyone at the facility regarding transferring her medical records to her next treatment facility. Don't expect urgency, and expect to spend a significant amount of time ensuring your loved one is receiving the treatment they promise. $30,000 later and we have many questions unanswered, many promises unfulfilled, and my sister's treatment completely at risk due to the lack of discharge procedures. I've been promised return phone calls and emails by the Assistant CEO, Clinical Director and Program Director, all of which have not been fulfilled. I'm happy to provide feedback to any one considering this facility and speak directly to you if you message me directly. Update 10/8/19: I see owner responded below to contact Julie, the Associate CEO. If you see above - my calls and emails have gone unreturned. For one of these items she had her assistant follow up but our major concerns and questions and items for follow up have still yet to be addressed, despite our efforts to contact her and her promises to return a call. It is clear these are not taken seriously and their promises are empty and unfulfilled.

Pasadena Villa was willing to take a chance on my son when others were not. They welcomed him and took an angry, sullen young man and gave him a safe place to be. The animal therapy and outdoor activities gave him something to do when he wasn't yet ready for groups. The therapist was very kind and willing to try anything that might work to draw my son out. We will always be grateful.

Ryan Elsoe

You get what you put in. There are numerous meetings that go over a multitude of topics, ranging from independent living to coping with mental illness.

keith boer

The help from the people in Tennessee for the resident that was there was very beneficial. I do understand all cases not the same with mental health, but the people working in Orlando and the billing people are TERRIBLE. Nothing but excuses, no answers that are real. you get charged 8% to do billing but constantly told billing is a common courtesy. There billing agency screwed up my account and others per employees from Pasadena but they dont care just keep paying. they billed insurance company alot more then they settled with out of pocket costs and even with there mistakes would not help with added costs due to there screw ups. I also called CEO he never returned my call and when brought this to peoples attentions was told about chain of commands. In guess when you have to guarantee money you are important but not when it comes to asking questions and getting answers.

We were scared and overwhelmed when researching residential treatment centers for our son Maxwell. After an exhaustive search, we were very comfortable with Pasadena Villa (PV). From our initial intake email and phone conversations with Laurie Daniels, to our initial visit, to last Saturday, when we picked Maxwell to come home. Laurie and the executive director, Sally Lawes, were very transparent and answered all of our questions. They allowed us to add language into the agreement, provided us with references to call, and had a team available for us to meet with when we visited PV prior to admitting Maxwell. Once Maxwell was admitted, he saw the psychiatrist, Dr. Ownby, within 48 hours. PV involved us in every decision that was made, we had weekly phone calls with Maxwell and his therapist Tom Breitung (who was the best therapist for Maxwell), and they allowed Maxwell to advocate for his own discharge date. Dr. Ownby was great and kept us informed of any changes made to Maxwell's medications. Dr. Ownby met regularly with Maxwell and was involved in several of the phone calls we had with Tom and Maxwell. It was an overall great experience, given the circumstances. Maxwell was also very fond of the entire staff at PV! But most importantly, Maxwell and Tom had a great relationship, which helped with Maxwell's progress. We are hopeful for a brighter future for Maxwell. It was well worth the investment...thank you, PV!

Pasadena is in a beautiful, relaxing setting. The staff there truly care about their patients and well being. They do an excellent job of individualizing care. Their communication with the family of the patient is consistent and valuable. I researched the facility before sending my son there and I was told by a source from the west coast it was in the top three facilities in the country.

I came into this facility more broken down than ever and after spending seven months here I honestly learned more about myself and life than I had ever learned anywhere else. I found my sponsor through the open AA meetings they offer onsite, I found my connection with my higher power again, and I also found myself. The lessons I learned from staff who genuinely care, and don’t just give up on you are lessons that I’ll take with me for a lifetime. Thank you Smoky Mountain Lodge for allowing me to be no longer enabled, and allowing me to gain my life back! I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for this place.
