I am very unhappy with this counseling service. I brought my daughter, and Dr. McCarthy strongly recommended a QEEG test. We had to pay $1000.00 up front, because a good portion of this test was not covered under our insurance. After he did the test we had to wait 6 months for the results. I called several times wondering when we would get the results and I continued sessions for my daughter waiting for the results. I was told he was heavily back logged because he conducted so many of these tests for students. When we finally got the results we sat with him for over an hour to be told my daughter had major brain damage. I then took those results and went to a neurologist at MUSC with the results in hand. That neurologist said it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on because the medical field does not acknowledge this testing yet. Not enough research on it to be used in the medical world. He said some psychologists are using QEEG's in the country, but still considered experimental. So, I for these reasons would never recommend this place. My daughter is now being treated elsewhere.

Disgraceful communication. Horrible. Disgusting.

If I could give this office zero stars I would. I came to seek help after a separation for my 3 years son and myself. After only 3 sessions Colisha Frazier gave up on my son and suggested a Qeeg test. After spending $1000 on this test and waiting 3 months for the results they finally came up with a pricey treatment plan. Those three months I was researching what they were trying to put my 3 year old through. There was very little research to support the risks for training the brain waves that I was not willing to put my son through with adverse affects. After finding a different counselor I noticed an immediate differnece. I went back to Mccarthy to request our records and they charged me 65 cents per page including their 24 page contract. The records were illegible and I couldn't even understand what they said even though they were based on our sessions... they are not looking to help, they are money hungry and unprofessional!

Was okay until my counsellor left for a better job. My new counsellor had a different philosophy and gave me the exact opposite advice of the previous counsellor - which I found to be very confusing.

I really like the counselors except for the fact that they really push the QEEG even though it's not backed by scientific research. It's a good guide but is terrible for diagnosing. The staff is friendly and tactful. I will say that Dr. McCarthy is very knowledgeable and is an expert in his field. But...There are alternative ways, more accurate to get diagnosed. McCarthy is the only one in Horry County who offers LENS treatment which us wonderful for neurological disorders. They didn't want to cooperate with us so my son could get an IEP in school so it felt like I had really wasted my time. Be watchful of other service fees they might sneak in without informing you first. They will charge a hefty cancelation fee even if you're in the hospital if you cancel less than 24 hours in advance. I feel this would be such a perfect place to come for different mental health services and counseling but they really seem greedy by trying to get you to get other, more expensive treatments and their other surprise fees.

I started therapy seeking help for depression and had a wonderful counselor. I am glad to say I found her at her current practice and resumed services. As the person who replaced her, is incompetent at her job and her notes did not reflect the topics discussed during our sessions. On a relapse of my depression symptoms, she became biased and tried to impose her beliefs on me. I find that disrespectful and degrading. I wouldn’t recommend this practice to anyone seeking real help for mental health. I agree with other reviews posted that coming here is pricey. I just hope that someone who is in a delicate mental health state is not harmed my the services provided by this practice. #incompetentcounseling #donoharmmentalhealth

My therapist Calisha was very nice, however started to push for the electronic therapy. I spent quite a bit of $$$. Its apparent thats first and foremost. Mr. McCarthy is a monkey running a machine. Don't go here.
