REVIEWS OF Portland Psychotherapy IN Oregon

Julia M

Went to a great workshop done by Dr. Luoma on working with shame. It was just fantastic, and I'd recommend it (and I'm guessing all their other offerings) to anyone.

Spencer R

I attended a training workshop that was outstanding. Extremely helpful personally and professionally, already finding it useful in practice.

This review is in regards to a training Jason Luoma, Ph.D. held on Cape Cod entitled "ACT for Shame". I'm viewing his training from the lens of an early-career psychologist who is an advanced beginner ACT therapist. I highly recommend this and other high-quality continuing education courses provided by Dr. Luoma. His understanding of ACT and the treatment of high-shame, high-self-criticism is thorough and immediately accessible by participants in his training. At the same time, he succeeds in modeling effective therapeutic behavior in his training style and promotes effective experiential learning through a process of self-exploration exercises, mindfulness activities, and role- and realplays. In particular, I was impressed by his ability to accommodate a wide variety of clinical backgrounds in the training, with only a minority of the participants self-identifying as ACT therapists. He was very appreciative of the level of expertise of the group and clearly put in effort to adapt his material and approach to the needs of the group. I would definitely go to a training of his again.

Rosanne Marmor

I completed a two day intro workshop on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Portland Psychotherapy. At then end, I had so much information, new tools and exciting ideas that I could easily incorporate into the therapy practice I have. I am grateful for what I learned and I look forward to more classes from them.

Kate Ramstedt

What an amazing workshop! Thank you so much Jason.

Jason & Jenna are amazing teachers! It's obvious they care about the work they do as well as other clinicians trying to do good work. I would highly recommend attending their workshops!

Michelle Keiserman

As trainers Jenna and Jason are truly gifted, striking the right balance between didactic and experiential learning so professionals, such as myself, can take the ACT material home and immediately begin using some elements of it. I left their workshop feeling inspired and motivated to continue my education of ACT. Thank you!

Mckenzie Zajonc

Doing a workshop with Jason was one of the best trainings I have every taken. He is so informative, but also models what he teaches very nicely. Learning from him therefore is all encompassing and one of the best investments I have made.

Sarah Alexander

I had a 1-day ACT training with Steven Hayes back in the beginning of my career, but found this one much more helpful and I have already begun utilizing what I learned over the weekend with my clients today. I would highly recommend this training to both new and seasoned therapists who are interested in ACT.

Portland Psychotherapy Clinic is an outstanding resource for psychotherapy, professional development, research, and community education. Drs. Jason Luoma and Jenna LeJeune are respected experts in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and dedicated to offering the highest quality services and programs. They have assembled a skilled staff with a range of specialties, and I’m confident that clients I refer to PPC will receive excellent, compassionate care. I participate regularly in professional trainings at PPC, and always come away with solid information and perspective that can be applied in my psychotherapy practice. We are truly fortunate to have this resource in Portland.

Comments on Shame, Resilience and Self-Compassion training by Jason Luoma, PhD. Before Dr. Luoma’s class, which was five 3-hour classes for five consecutive months starting in November, 2013, he emailed participants that his goal was to make this “one of the best professional learning experiences” we have ever had. I will say he succeeded. This was not a sit-back and-languidly-listen kind of continuing education experience. Rather, we were active and engaged with homework assignments between workshop sessions, reading articles and doing role-plays to learn skills. We discussed concepts, clinical interventions and watched and discussed videos of clinicians demonstrating the skills we were working on. Dr. Luoma was positive and supportive throughout the course. He gave us constructive and clinically astute suggestions on how to frame interventions when he watched us practice role-plays with other class participants. His expertise was impressive, and he generously shared it with us. I would highly recommend any class that he offers.

Great workshop! Learned a lot.

These are very caring, expert and cutting-edge mental health providers. They are truly scientists as well as therapists, and stay up-to-date on the best research available on how to help. They work well with a wide range of people. I have only had good experiences with them and have only heard good things from their clients.

Anna Hadley

I attended the Introductory ACT Workshop and it was AMAZING! Jenna and Jason were such incredible teachers. There were so many practical and tangible exercises to use with clients. It was experiential and we learned how to do the strategies ourselves. I highly recommend their trainings and hope to attend more!

Dan Paulus

Dr. Luoma has a really great personality. Really great interpersonally. I learned so much!

My experiences at Portland Psychotherapy so far have been excellent. I attended a weekend Acceptance and Commitment Therapy training which was top notch. Based on my experiences at Portland Psychotherapy the clinicians there live up to their reputation of being highly skilled therapists, researchers, and trainers.

Brittany Pryce

Jason & Jenna made learning ACT fun and informative. They are such amazing educators and motivators to apply this effective technique for a variety of issues. THANK YOU!

Austin

Very disappointing experience. I called the new patient appointment line and left a message. I got a call back in 24 hours and was told that they have one clinician accepting new patients and that person doesn't take my insurance. I found this odd as I had checked with my insurance company already. There are six providers (out of 8) in this clinic that accept my insurance and all six of them are listed as accepting new patients. But ok, no problem, I asked about a waiting list and was told they don't have one. I asked how, then, does one get in for treatment, and was told "it's complicated." Then I was told that some of their providers DO keep waiting lists, just not the 6 that take my insurance, because of "restrictions on their specialties." I have no idea what that means. Other things I have no idea about: if the majority of your providers are full, why not put that on your website? Or in the voicemail? How does anyone ever actually get services here? Do they just give the new appointments to the next person to call? Why aren't they telling insurance that they are not taking patients? Throughout the conversation I felt like she was bored, annoyed and trying to get me off the phone ASAP...sorry for trying to buy the thing you are selling, I guess? Asking for help is hard. Why would you want to make it harder? It would be so easy to just being honest up front about their lack of availability. I've been in social services for 15 years and nothing about this feels ethical.
