There is not enough space to articulate the deep care and recovery I experienced through this organization and my specific counselor, Elyse.
I started treatment after several friends suggested I would benefit from EMDR, which can sometimes be effective for PTSD, including slow smaller traumas like I had in my background with a mentally ill parent as well as relationships with poor boundaries.
In short, I had the opportunity to get to the root of my cognitive distortions, or unhealthy thought patterns, and challenge them with truth. The process of EMDR always felt like a session in inner healing, as we prayerfully approached "snapshots" of trauma, invited God into those spaces, and actually re-wired my associations with them by creating a safe space for me to unpack suppressed emotions and allow God to redeem and heal those moments.
The ten-plus weeks I had in counseling changed the course of my life, equipping me to walk life with better boundaries, more grace and forgiveness for myself and others, and confidence in who I am as a daughter of God. Three years later I continue to unpack the teaching and tools I picked up. I am grateful for the helpful e-mails that CCA sends since I moved, because they are great reminders for me of the freedom I have in Christ Jesus that came, in part, through my "season" with the counseling center.
I can only hope and continue to pray that others are as blessed as I was through this powerful and gospel-centered practice.
My deepest thanks to you at CCA and to my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ
