REVIEWS OF Carolina Psychological Health Services IN North Carolina

There is a reason this place gets 1 star and other poor reviews. Called in to relay a health concern and was hung up on by the clerk who was extremely rude and unprofessional. The only rationale I can come up with is that the center is more concerned with reimbursement than the welfare of their patients. Healthcare professionals have an obligation to act if the health of their patients could be at risk. The Hippocratic Oath obviously does not apply here. Seek out care elsewhere if you are considering this place. As a healthcare professional with over 20 years of experience, I wouldn't send my pet here based on my experience.

This was my first time here so I could resume taking medication for bipolar disorder after leaving another doctor at CCNC. I was scheduled to see Nurse Practitioner, Robert Siegel. Compared to CCNC, this place was so much quieter, and the front desk staff so much nicer. No kids were running around screaming, no TVs blaring, no lines to check in, and no apathetic secretaries. I was very hopeful that my interaction with Mr. Siegel would be just as good. However, it was one of the most appalling intake interviews I have ever experienced, and I will never go back. First of all--he's an ex-military man, as explained in his bio on the website...and it showed. The interview felt like an interrogation. He was cutting me off when I tried to elaborate on my answers right from the start. For example, one question was whether there was any mental illness in my family. I started to say that my brother died of a drug overdose, and he cut me off abruptly, saying that drug use was in the next section--but I was trying to explain that I believed my brother had a dual diagnosis and was using drugs to cover up another mental illness. At one point, Mr. Siegel asked me if there were any guns in my home, and I asked him to repeat that because I didn't hear him. He sarcastically said, "Guns--firearms?" I said, "I know what a gun is." I greatly resent being talked to like I'm an idiot. He was somewhat disparaging of the fact that I receive SSDI and my teacher's pension, and said that "It was nice of them to give you a pension." Nice? I worked 14 years for that school district, and was eligible to receive my pension after 10 years. I am already very sensitive and depressed over the fact that I can no longer teach--but he was super-insensitive. He was also suggesting that I have borderline personality disorder, which I do not. I have been treated for bipolar disorder for the last 12 years. He kept putting words in my mouth, and making assumptions that are not true, such as saying, "Oh, you don't like to live alone, do you?" "You sabotage your relationships, don't you? Yes, I do like living alone--did it for 13 years, and no, I don't sabotage relationships. I have had 3 monogamous, committed relationships of 7, 14, and 4 years respectively. I have a great relationship with both parents and both brothers, my ex-husband, my current partner, and former colleagues and students. He seemed to be trying to fit me into the borderline trait criteria, when that's not who I am at all. I could go on, but I'll end by saying that the final insult was when I specifically said that I will not take any medication that causes weight gain because I gained 45 lbs from another medication, and have been working hard to get it off. He prescribed Risperdal. Went home and googled it--average weight gain is 1 pound a week! It's right up there with Seroquel and Zyprexa. Needless to say, I didn't fill the prescription. At the end of the interrogation, he spoke rudely to his colleague, repeating to her 3 times," CCA and therapy, CCA and therapy, CCA and therapy," to tell her what I needed to be scheduled, as if she too was an idiot. She was a sweet person who does not need to be talked to like that. I was appalled at this person who calls himself a nurse practitioner...looks like he needs more practice in dealing with civilians and people with anxiety disorders. When we called the next day to cancel any future appointments, the front desk told us that this is not the first time they've had this complaint about Mr. Siegel--which may explain why the waiting room wasn't crowded and there are no positive reviews about him online. I don't write reviews like this to be a jerk--I do it because as a mental health consumer, I understand that many of us have anxiety about seeking treatment, and the last thing we need is to be treated in an uncaring manner. I want other people to know that you deserve quality care--do not settle for a sub-par practitioner when there are quality doctors out there. Mr. Siegel's strength is that he tried to be thorough--spent over an hour with me.

Elisabeth G

I have been seen here for over a year now. I must say that the front desk staff have greatly improved their quality of services. The phone waiting times have been virtually eliminated and much more courteous. I will continue to seek my care from here.

The front desk staff are very rude and unprofessional, especially a blond haired woman with glasses. If I was in charge of the place, she would get fired. Those same staff members take forever to call people even when nobody is in the waiting room because they are too lazy to check the sign-in sheet. It seems as if nobody that works up front wants to actually do their job. However, if you're willing to put up with all of that, the psychologists are very nice.

UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!! It took nearly a month to get documents for my son which the doctor told me HIMSELF, would be ready that following day. I consistently called every few days and was told that I would be contacted by staff when the documents were ready. Did I receive a call from staff??? NO. It took me calling the 8th time to be told that the documents were ready. I am shocked by the negligence from the staff and the doctor himself. Unexceptable!!!!!

Terrible front desk staff. They are 100% rude at all times. Very condesending and speak to you with a terrible attitude. Had to call once for my son as he woke up with a fever at 3 in the morning and let them know he owuld not make it to his 10 am appointment becuase he had a high fever and we needed to take him to the doctor. The receptionist who answered the phone was rude on answering the phone, did not even say good morning, straight out of her mouth it was, "How can I help you?" with an attitude. I let her know about my son, and her disrespectful response was well aren't we all sick, whatever ma'am," and straight hung up the phone. I called back and asked for a manager and I was told, "Well everyone has bad day." Completely unacceptable excuse don't matter if you are having a bad day or not. This was not our first bad experience with the front desk, so I took my business elsewhere. I recommend anywhere else but here.

Front desk staff are continuously rude over phone or in person and appear totally indifferent to patient issues. Wait time for therapy or medical staff is approximately an hour for each visit. I have had to leave without being seen because the wait was so long. I was a patient under Mr. Seigel (NP) before switching to a different provider. He is difficult to contact by phone as I have left several messages with his staff regarding my treatment and phone calls were never returned. His bed side manner is very poor. His approach feels cold, rushed and with out compassion. Medication had been prescribed at a wrong dose previously and I seemed to always run out before my next visit. Sometimes prescriptions were 2 15 day supplies versus a 30 day supply. This cost me more money. My only positive experience was the kind nursing staff (minus Seigel) and working with Mrs. Hardison. However, Hardison's wait time was continually 40 minutes to an hour, which I feel is disrespectful to the patient's time. I will be seeking a different provider.

I was involved in an accident. My husband's back was broke. The lady did not stop while we were stopped at a red light and ran into the back of our car pushing the trunk in our backseat. With my EEG I was sent to Dr. Stein for an eval. At the end of the eva, he said that my stress was causing me to have symptoms. I'm stressed, therefore I'm having pain and memory issues. It has nothing to do with the fact that the EEG came back abnormal or the fact that I have a lesion on my brain. I told him that if he labeled me psychosomatic, I would never get help from another doctor for the accident. He assured me that doctor Champey would not do that to me. I went and saw Dr. Champey yesterday for my EEG results was told they were abnormal and that I had a minor concussion and it should get better over time. He had not received Dr. Stein's report yet. I got a call today from Doctor Champey's nurse who told me I'm perfectly fine despite what the doctor said yesterday, and now I need to see a psychiatrist for a year. I'm not sure how seeing a psychiatrist is going to help with the fact that I was hit by somebody going 70 miles an hour hit in the head by a water fountain. I have lost my mother because a neurologist told her that her symptoms were psychosomatic. she died 18 months later from a brain tumor the size of a grapefruit. I have a cousin who was having seizures. She had a tumor on her pituitary that was causing acromegaly. They sent her to a psychiatrist and found out that after about 10 years they left a piece of the tumor. I have another friend who was a security guard who was passing out during her duties. It was due to the Mirena birth control. They sent her to a psychiatrist for two years saying that she was making it up. This smacks of early Southern misogyny. it smacks of "let's send the little woman to the sanitarium for histrionics." It's dangerous. It kills people. And now I have to seek help at Duke which is about 4 hours away from my home because any help I would have gotten near home has now been extinguished thanks to Dr Stein. I was stressed because my house roof caved in and I was told literally on the way to the psychiatrist's office when the insurance company called and stated they would not pay for it. It has nothing to do with the accident. Both of these doctors are horribly horribly irresponsible. Run!

Unprofessional and unhelpful. Prejudiced and unpracticed against and with LGBTQ+ patients and unaccommodating when it comes to matters directly outside the office. Unwelcoming attitudes and atmosphere with backwards and inflexible opinions. Unwilling to do research on disorders despite showing clear symptoms and would rather gaslight you into thinking you were wrong. Currently dealing with a lack of help from their facility in regards to getting help that I need in order to live via accommodations that I need to live independently after fleeing the state due to emergency. They don't want to take responsibility for anything that could turn south in any way, even when it helps better their patients lives. Thanks Joyce! Gail is an amazing therapist and does wonderful work with kids. I’m so glad I got my family in here! You do have to book appointments about a month in advance because she’s so booked up, but she’ll work with you to make sure you’re seen as much as possible.

Wonderful place to work.

These people are a JOKE!!! Never in my life have we dealt with such incompetence, save you time and go somewhere else!!!!

I have been going here for over a year and have had nothing but positive results. The staff are always friendly, (although they do get busy at times). But both my doctor and counselor are wonderful! They have been a godsend for helping my PTSD!!!

Called to make an appointment and they were very nice? I don't understand the reviews on here saying the front desk staff are rude? I almost didn't make an appointment with them because of that, but I'm glad I did. I'm also a part of the LGBT community and I was worried the staff/doctors might not be accepting of that, but they totally were! Very nice and welcoming people and I'm enthusiastic about my future appointment :)

I look forward to my appointment every week. Fortunately I respond better to therapy than medication. The front desk are very nice and attentive. I've never had any problems with them and I've been seen here for over a year. I love love love my doctor, Dr. Hardison, she is amazing!

This place is terrible. Long wait times in the lobby. Doctor Convoy only shows up around once every other week. Scheduling is painful. Don't go to these guys if you do any traveling (deployments, workups, etc). After giving them a heads up and cancelling my appointments, when trying to reschedule - because of my cancellations I cannot make another appointment with them. No notice or heads up I need to go elsewhere. Now I have to go through hoops to get new care set up elsewhere so I don't lapse my meds. The receptionist thought it was funny, and couldn't help but laugh while she was explaining this to me. Very professional.

My appointment today was at 12:30 with Dr. Robert Siegel. I arrive for my appointment at 12:20, at 12:50 he came out and informed me that he needs to go get his eyes checked could I just wait for him to get back. I'm there with my six month old son, and have already been there respectfully 10 minutes before my appointment. I don't Think it's good business to leave when you have appointments there to go to the eye doctor. I gave two stars because I did have a very great experience with Dr. Marty their whom I very much liked. I've already been waiting almost a month for this appointment to get medication to help my anxiety. And now I can't get it because I'm being asked to wait with my son while the doctor goes to an eye doctor appointment basically. Very unprofessional in my opinion.

I have been coming here for a long time and have received nothing but excellent care. Never a problem with the therapist side of the house and now that their previous psychiatrist has left that side of the practice is most likely improved.
