RUDE. You know, I said to my mom, any all female staffed therapist office calling itself "Womankind" is either going to be awesome or terrible. They have no receptionist, when you walk in you have no idea where you're supposed to go or what to do. The person who answers their phone is upstairs from the lobby, and does not liaison with clients. If you didn't know that, it's not weird you'd think the receptionist was the person in the first open doored office you saw(now I get why we got all those weird stares from the other clients) That person, a doctor, was cold to us when we attempted to book an appointment. You have to call. Fair enough, most places prefer that, except- no exceptions for a potential CUSTOMER trying to GIVE YOU MONEY who is standing right in front of you. They didn't offer to point us to someone who could make the arrangement , instead it was just NOPE, go home and call. Of course, if the person who answers their phone doesn't speak to the clients, IDK who we'd be calling but whatever. No debate, no negotiation. Wow, that makes me feel comfortable about working with those therapists! We hadn't called ahead because we had just come from another clinic whose only available therapists taking my insurance we re both male, and they referred us to Womankind (however, that clinic, Warren St Family Counseling, was willing to accommodate the fact that we were walk ins despite preparing to close in fifteen minutes). We were walkins from literally down the street, attempting to give Womankind our business instead of the competing firm....and the other business was the one who sent us there! A client was SENT TO YOU by another clinic- a COMPETING BUSINESS JUST HANDED YOU A CUSTOMER OUT of the BLUE and you made us mad enough to walk out and not consider coming back. Because we didn't follow your precious protocol to the letter. Another reason we weren't in the mood to call? We'd picked the previous therapist's office because the one we'd initially called, Riverbend, never responded to our initial phone call (they did eventually but only after my PCP called them for me, and only months later). We had a bit of a time crunch. So why would we trust that "go home and call" would get us results? When are you going to call back if I make an appointment over the phone? You gonna take over a week (a move which, in any other business, would be considered rude and poor practice)? A couple months? FURTHERMORE I have difficulties using the phone and talking to strangers due to an anxiety disorder so doing this at all was not easy. I ended up having a brief meltdown. It's really irritating me that most of the clinics and counseling centers I've looked at make no accommodation for the fact that mentally, physically, emotionally, developmentally or cognitively, ill and/or disabled people can't always contact you in your chosen stick in the mud pre 21st century ablelist method. I guess it's because I'm under 35 but I assume if you have a web presence, then you ought to be comfortable with being contacted online but doctor's offices are among the WORST in this regard
