My children and I have been seeing Gwen Smithson since 2013 and I can honestly say that she is amazing. My kids absolutely adore her, we did go one year without seeing her for insurance reasons and my kids were jumping up and down when I told them we would be going back to her. She helps with everything, she recently helped the kids cope with the loss of a family pet, she helped them adjust after their dad and I got divorced, in 2013, she has helped with behavior, responsibility, and has genuinely been a person they feel safe talking to about everything going on in their lives. I can't recommend her high enough, and I am confident that all of the therapists she has brought into Balance Therapy are equally as wonderful!

I have been seeing my therapist Gwen since Balance therapy opened.Before that I was seeing Debbie for years.They have helped me in so many ways I cannot begin to express my gratitude.I really do feel they care about me on a personal level.Their office is so welcoming and calming.Sometimes I really don’t feel like I need to go but I do because I just enjoy the interactions I have with everyone at the office.Especially Sig the therapy dog.I’ve tried therapy before and always quit because I felt it wasn’t a good fit.Or I felt judged or just uncomfortable.Not here!!!!I LOVE THESE LADIES.

everything that a counsler is suppose to be there for they are not. i was profiled judged. my sessions i assumed were confidential. they were not. they shared my peronal info made false claims. by my 3rd visit i coudnt even trust my counsler ryan. i had to build a wall becouse i didnt know what he would twist to use against me. if your attempting to use them to get over any life trama or anything for that matter id go somewhere else this place is a waste of time money. and the end results are worthless theyll leave you in a worse situation then what you came in for. also guy suggested i get back with my ex. the sole reason i was in there getting counsling. bottom line dont trust them! just dont.

In short, I feel as though the business side is extremely lacking. I have left messages which were not responded to. I have had appointments canceled in clerical error and have never been able to speak with them on the phone. The long version: I feel like I was handled a little unprofessionally.. I was running late to my third appt with debbie, so I called 3 minutes after the appt to let her know I'd be there shortly. My daughter got sick at school, and it pushed us behind.. The answering machine picked up so I left the message. I showed up 10 minutes later and waited in the lobby as the sign suggests, since there's no one at the desk. 15 minutes later, im still waiting, because there's nothing I can do but wait till someone comes out. Finally at 5:50 the other therapist comes out, and I ask her about my appt. She says therapists wait for 10 minutes before leaving if there's a no show. I told her I had called and came less than 15 minutes late. But apparently the therapist missed my call, so there's nothing I can do now.. so I confirm my appt is scheduled next week and leave. I showed up to my appt on time the following week, only to be told I had no appt. Confused I asked if she was sure, that I confirmed it last week. She told me that she called me last week at 5:15, before she left, and cancelled my next two appts. I told her I never got a call or missed message.. that I took work off early to bring my daighter to this appt.. Can we still do the session today? And she told me she's in the middle of a session. I asked if she got my message last week that I was running late. She told me.. "my phone says you called at 5:15 (in a sassy tone), and I called you right before I left, cancelling your next sessions. And again, I'm in the middle of a session, when do you want to reschedule??" I told her later, since she's obviously busy.. I really felt attacked, and confused at how that conversation went. I'm not going back simply because of how that was handled. I wasn't ever rude to her, and was trying to be curteous since there was a patient waiting, but was simply confused, and wanting clarification, and felt like she really was pressing how right she was in this situation, and had no time to explain it to me. She was 15 minutes late to my first appointment which only lasted 30min. I didn't realize the standard stems only one way... Even with a courtesy call. Just no empathy or courtesy. She also mixed up my child with another child, canceled an appointment incorrectly only to have me show up at my rescheduled appointment double booked with the other child.

All of my kids have been in and out of counseling over the years for different reasons. Gwen and Debbie have worked with us individually and together when necessary. I am grateful we have a place were my kids feel safe and can discuss anything that they need to with trust and confidentiality with out judgement.
