When i hear stories about this place from the actual patients it really concerns me. I would definitely not consider this place at all if they are true, I’m not sure why multiple people would or possibly make up the same stuff. Pretty sad...

First off, if you are reading this review, your family is probably in a very dire situation. I know we were... We are a very close family, and we provided our son with the best opportunities growing up, but he still got off track. His grades dropped, he started skipping school, got involved with poor influences, and in general started making very bad decisions. With the help of my company EAP and a lot of research, we found Turning Winds. I also found out there are a lot of places for troubled teens...which is sad, but necessary, especially when families find themselves where we were. Our son is currently attending Turning Winds and has been there for 5 months so far. I can say, without a doubt, that he is in the best and safest place he can be right now. Everyone associated with Turning Winds truly cares for each and every teen, and helps navigate and guide them through probably the most difficult times in their lives - and for that of their families. We have visited numerous times - and have seen and talked to many resident kids there - without any interference from any staff. We have seen a lot of smiles and laughing - we have seen kids who are having a rough day, but mostly we see kids healing, and a lot of people around to help them. Is it easy? No - absolutely not. Its a roller coaster to be honest. But we have NO doubt at all, that if we didn't select a place like Turning Winds, our son would either be in jail, out on the streets, or dead. It was that serious! We have weekly phone calls (sometimes more often) and letters back and forth with our son. We see the dramatic progress he is making, and to use a term we've seen before - we are getting our son back. The son we thought we knew, but did not. And although we are only 5 months into this process, we whole heartily recommend Turning Winds to other struggling families. I've seen the negative reviews too - and researched them quite a bit. I find most of them to be without merit, especially considering the sensitive nature of trying to help teens with really difficult issues. I'd venture to say it would be impossible to help everyone, but so far, I have no complaints about Turning Winds, although at times we have to prod a bit for further communication when its been a tough week for us as parents! I'm also completely willing to talk to any family considering getting their son or daughter help. Just ask Turning Winds and they'll put us in touch. I'm happy to say the sun shines every day, our son is getting the help he needs, and we have renewed faith for our family.

Incredible organization totally dedicated to teens and their families. I am impressed with every detail of Turning Winds, from start to end. Sincere folks who gave me ample time, demonstrated patience, and served my unique needs as a parent. Although I was in crisis, the people at Turning Winds gave me a sense of hope. TURNING WINDS HAS BEEN THE BEST THING WE COULD HAVE DONE FOR OUR STRUGGLING SON! HE WAS DEFIANT, DISRESPECTFUL AND DOING MARIJUANA DAILY! AS A LAST RESORT, WE FOUND TURNING WINDS AND AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF OBSTINANCE THEY FINALLY GOT THROUGH TO HIM AND HAVE EFFECTED A MASSIVE CHANGE IN ATTITUDE AND HE GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL (WHICH WAS A PIPE DREAM BEFORE COMING TO TURNING WINDS)! HE IS ON THE RIGHT PATH AND WE ARE HOPEFUL THAT HE REALLY GETS IT AND WILL KEEP UP HIS GOOD WORK TO MAKE HIMSELF AND US PROUD OF EVERYTHING HE MIGHT DO IN THE FUTURE! Turning Winds helped us to save our child. When our son entered the program, he was struggling on almost every behavioral and emotional level. After the completion of the program, he is ready to move back into the world as a productive citizen. He still has work to do, but he has made remarkable improvement.

Totally robbed four months of my life I will never get back. Misgendered me and forced me to live as a male my entire stay. They even refused to continue dispensing my withdrawl medicine. Racist and homophobic staff please do not make the mistake of sending your child here, there are much more helpful and supportive programs out there.

There are not enough words to express our deep appreciation for TWAI. We were immediately accepted, loved on, nurtured, and encouraged as we walked an unfamiliar path as parents. We were able to rest assured, knowing that our son was being given support and guidance along with a safe space to practice and develop the tools he needed over the course of more than a year. The weekly phone calls, letters, and well-timed visits were exactly what we needed to work through some important mending of our relationship. Staff worked closely with us as we made plans for our son’s transition home. We consider TWAI to be an extension of our family!

Our daughter attended Turning Winds for about nine months to just after her 18th birthday. She completed her senior year of high school with straight "A's." Upon leaving, she transitioned directly to college. Prior to going to Turning Winds, our daughter was struggling academically, socially and behaviorally, both in and out of school. She was abusing substances. She was making poor and dangerous choices on social media. Her behavior was getting worse at home and in public. We knew we needed to make an extreme choice and intervene. Fortunately, we knew people who had sent their children to Turning Winds. These friends had nothing but great things to report about Turning Winds and the progress their children made after attending Turning Winds. After much agonizing, we made the decision to send our daughter away to Turning Winds. We believe that it was the single best decision we could have made on her behalf. Her experiences and the relationships she made with other students and staff were life changing. The facility, the location and the staff were absolutely outstanding. Turning Winds Academic Institute is a quality treatment center and boarding school. I'm very comfortable and confident with referring teens and students to their program. The success of their program is based primarily around their "5 Pillars of Change." TWAI has fabulous student/staff ratio's and great academic success with their residents. Keep it up guys!

Sending my son to TWAI was the hardest day of my life. I felt like a horrible parent and a failure. I knew it was the right thing to do for him, I was just feeling so guilty and depressed. The staff at TWAI (namely Carl, Enoch, Owen and Emily) helped ease the pain and talk me through the initial process with such a caring and supportive attitude that I could finally start to relax and let go of the guilt knowing that my son was being cared for and was truly in a loving, nurturing environment. At TWAI, my son learned to grow as an individual in more ways than I thought possible.
