I have an extended family member that went to Pine Grove for the treatment addiction to prescription drugs. She was very reluctant to go anywhere. It took a lot of coaxing. Her immediate family visited over 6 places in the southeast before settling on Pine Grove as the place that was best for her. From the moment she got there, she was taken care of. With each week that passed, her courage and strength to face her weaknesses grew. By the time the family therapy week came around, her family was blown away by the ability she already had developed to deal with her addiction. Once the week came that she was to go home, she cried. It was emotional for her because she had grown to care for and respect those there, as well as those who worked so hard to help her face a life with confidence. She is equipped. Her mother has often said that it was the best gift she ever gave her daughter. I'm thankful for Pine Grove. They changed our lives!

I really don't care what any of the negative reviews say, there are WAY worse places to get clean. I have the staff and program at Pine Grove Women's Center to thank for helping me save my life. Just because I didn't agree or like some of the rules (no smoking/very limited caffeine) and things I was encouraged to do, it set a solid foundation on which I have built 2.5 years of recovery. I appreciated the fact that I was getting such intensive care in an environment that didn't feel like a hospital or but house. I still go back for Days of Hope and would recommend this facility to anybody looking to get clean and sober.

I would recommed looking for a better facility. The counselors/therapists/and doctors were great but you only see them once a day for less than 6 minutes. Two rooms in the open unit contained -BLACK MOLD- which was not adressed. My fellow patient stated she was in her moldy room since Tuesday and was unable to shower because of the mold. My bathroom also had black mold which I didn't bother to report because the nursing staff pretty much ignores the patients. Nurses Lisa and Gwen were an absolute horror for no reason. Nurse Lisa is a sadist. She smiled when telling me I would never be moved to the open unit (I was later told I belonged in when I was admitted), which caused me to have a mental breakdown. She then uneccesarily sedated me (all while smiling) for having a breakdown she directly caused - my significant other was to be notified for this and they never were. Nurse Gwen is lacking in bedside manner, she was rude to every patient I spoke to at the facility - including myself. Overall I would say it was a traumatic experience that does not help someone who is already suicidal. I do hold the doctors/therapists/and counselors in high regard, but I think you should be able to see them for a longer period of time or multiple times a day.

I went here due to my depression, anxiety, paranoia, and PTSD. The doctors were absolutely amazing and taught me how to cope with my mental problems. The beds were comfortable, the food was good, and you’re never bored! Miss Dolores was really nice and she understood what I was going through. However, Miss Shay and another woman who’s usually with her wasn’t very friendly. I politely asked her to call me by my nickname instead of my real name, and she rudely declined. That’s why I put 4 stars instead of 5. Anyways, this place was awesome and it made me look forward to continuing my teenage years!

I am grateful that Pine Grove helped to give a family member a new start and opportunities for long term sobriety. As a member of the recovery community, I have benefited greatly from others that attend 12 step meetings that got the excellent help that Pine Grove offers for battling the disease of addiction. Scary as heck checking in here..they are 2500 miles from my house and highly recommended, I knew I needed to get far away from home to have the best chance of not running away..some of the negative reviews show how sick we all are when we get there...they truly helped me accept, understand and start to live with my addiction. I'll have 10 years in Sept. and it all started when I went to Pine Grove Next Step... I could not have got clean without treatment.. I used mind altering substances for over 40 years and never dealt with my emotions without self medicating. A few things I didn't like were only seeing the Dr. once a day at most, really think it was about 3 times a week..he was a bit of a smart ass also. I had some medical issues there and the nurses always had to get his permission to give you anything..couldn't even get a antacid or a pain pill. Having to quit smoking at the same time was rough. They make you not see or talk to family for 2 weeks which is good. This is not a spa, it is a recovery center. They are trained professionals and know what they are doing, trust them and surrender to the process. I just decided to let go and do wethat they said to do, I was at the end and didn't know what else there was to do to get better. I was a mess..4 days in detox and 93 days here and I needed every minute. I'm sure if I think about it I can think of other negatives however overall they helped save my life. I would recommend them to any family who wants a loved one back from the horror of addiction. :) P.S. They folks that gave a 3 star or less..I hope you get the help your looking for..Just surrender to the process and admit to your most inner self that you need help. We have to surrender to win. The negative comments seem to show how crazy we are in out active addiction..can't really see any that are justified if you really want to get better..the food was great..not everyone wants to be here however if you want to get better I can't think of a better place to start.

Didn't really give them a chance. I was there for a week, told them I was fine, and was transferred from there to a foster home. August 2009. Thinking about admitting myself there in the adult ward. Has the place gotten worse? I know the best thing about was the food.

The best thing about Pine Grove is the staff! They really let me know that they cared about me. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, I was treated with kindness and respect. They treat all aspects of the person--physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual--very well. They also have an excellent alumni program which offers free events throughout the year to give former patients the opportunity to reconnect with their program and to interact with current patients for mutual encouragement and support. I highly recommend Pine Grove!

I went there because of a lie told by my mother. For over 24 hours they withheld my migraine meds and my inhaler for my bad lung ( which is why I went to the hospital in the the first place) They also turned over my medical records to my mother when I asked them to give them to my father. If this is standard practice for mental health care then I feel SORRY for everyone that needs help.

It was scarier than hell leaving home, going that far away and turning control of my life over to the counselors and staff, first in my addiction program, then PEP Professional Enhancement Program. I was lost, I thought my life was over, my marriage didn't have a chance, and I knew my career was in deep jeopardy. To be honest I wasn't a good patient, I didn't like what they were telling me, I rebelled, I didn't like giving them control of my life. I said some things directly to them that were mean and inappropriate. I was lashing out at the very people trying to help me. Their professionalism, compassion, experience and care fortunately came through. Today makes four years in recovery. MY REBIRTH DAY. Today I am strong in recovery, taking it one day at a time. I am back in my marriage and family, closer than ever, I am still working in my profession, and I am alive with a joy and acceptance that left me somewhere around age 8. I am sorry google plus combines 5 stars and "I loved it". I didn't love it. But I am incredibly thankful for my time and treatment there, So to David, Deb, Phillip, Leah Claire, Dr Walker, all the other counselors and staff of both programs and to the bus driver (I am sorry if forgot your name but I will never forget the positive reinforcement you gave to me hauling my behind around Hattiesburg) I am forever grateful.

Refuses to help children unless the are actively attempting suicide or murder. My daughter is having major issues and showing red flags in addition to self inflicting injuries and physical violence toward siblings. A well has having attempted suicide within the past year. we have tried out patient with no results and these clowns said she is not aggressive enough. So much for preventative help.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I know they have helped many people but their protocols and truthfulness need help. We were lied to repeatedly. The rules kept changing depending on who you spoke to. I helped someone go here voluntarily on their own accord at the recommendation of a therapist I know. This person was told by Pine Grove before admitting himself that it was all voluntary and if he didn’t feel he was getting the help he needed, he would not be kept against his will. After being treated liked a criminal in jail and being given medication to keep him sleeping all the time, he saw an actual doctor for maybe 5 minutes total. He got very minimal one-on-one counseling. They just wanted to put him in group therapy sessions along with keeping him medicated. When he realized their treatment wasn’t what he needed and it wasn’t helping him, they wouldn’t let him leave. They kept buying time by saying a doctor had to sign release forms. After giving them numerous hours and opportunities to get things together, I realized they weren’t going to release him. They were just postponing me. I showed up to get him out, because he wanted to leave and they were just accumulating a large bill for him to pay. I gave them an opportunity to release him without the police being called for false imprisonment. When they found out what I was doing, they then made a power play and slapped a 72 hr mandatory hold on him. In short, this place was more like a prison where he was treated like he was the bad guy and a criminal than he was helped. Be careful before you admit someone here. You may have to fight to get them out. PS his treatment had nothing to do with detox or addiction

Total waste of time. My wife went there for psych assessment and 6 days and $14,000.00 later nothing but a recommendation that she come home and see her psychiatrist. Never had a psychiatrist talk to me or any family to determine what we felt was going on. They did do one thing, they changed a med and a week later she was back in a psych ward here in Mobile. I gave a one star because they don't allow you to give negative stars.

Professionals STAY AWAY! If you go for substances there is a chance you will end up at the Professional Enhancement Program (PEP). I went in for substance abuse then did 6 weeks at PEP. I returned to PEP every 6 months for 4 years. There are several criticisms: 1. THEY DO NOT FOLLOW CURRENT TRENDS IN ADDICTION. The evidence supports opiate replacement therapy yet it is not offered at Pine Grove (Weiss et.al 2011). Most Professionals cannot use opiate replacement but monthly Naltrexone is effective. THE RELAPSE RATE OF ORAL OPIATES IS 92% THE FIRST MONTH OUT OF REHAB. BUPRENORPHINE REDUCES TO JUST OVER 50%. It decreases all cause mortality by 50%. They turn their back on life saving innovation. 2. THEY PUSH PSEUDOSCIENCE. Pine Grove specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of "sexual addiction". PEP has become a "finishing school" for sex addiction. At least half the patients just got out of sex addiction treatment. Problem is that sexual compulsion issues probably aren't an addiction. The diagnosis is not in the DSM-5 because it's not recognized by the APA. Their 12 step model is scientifically unsupported. Because they believe addictions are related, you could end up with the diagnosis. Dr. David Ley is the most outspoken critic. 3. THE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE OVERLY HARSH. My friend talked to the head of our medical board twice to have PEPS restrictions eased, both times she agreed. My prescribing practices were controlled. My employees were required to take surveys on my behavior. They wanted me in constant 12 step meetings. Over time they wanted to control my normal, personal sexual behavior. Four people in my support group went to PEP; three of us transferred. The fourth guy finally finished but they want him on life long yearly polygraphs. 4. POLYGRAPH IS MISUSED. Despite unknown validity, there is high reliance on polygraph. They once asked if I ever had a fantasy about a patient. I had been sober 3 years, no one had complained, and I didn't go in for a sexual boundary violation. During my last visit, I failed several questions. I wasn't lying yet they were convinced of my dishonesty. My final report said I was "deceptive" without describing the limitations of the test. I transferred facilities and passed similar questions. Polygraphing thought is uniquely destabilizing. 5. THE TREATING THERAPISTS LACK RACIAL, CULTURAL AND GENDER DIVERSITY. On the whole they are caucasian females with a christian world view. In contrast to my personal psychiatrist and therapist, the PEP staff thought I was doing badly. My psychiatrist showed me the last treatment report. It was a horrible distortion. Both he and my therapist (who once ran PEP) encouraged me to transfer. 6. THEY NEVER WANT TO DISCHARGE. If you have a 5 year contract, you will likely return throughout. Rechecks are Thursday through Wednesday; you stay the weekend despite no clinical activity. The follow ups are a week of anxious distress. I dreaded going and generally returned home feeling worse. 7. THERE IS NO OVERSIGHT. Psychology is rife with cases of unintended abuse. Psychotherapy for monitoring is debatable. Mix Polygraph and bad science, it can get dangerous. They are not regulated by an academic institution and Forrest General lacks oversight. They have your most personal information, limiting outside complaints. I tried to complain and the internal mechanism was inadequate. I left Jan. 2017 in despair. I transferred to the Acumen Institute in Kansas. My stress immediately improved. Diagnosis were removed and restrictions eased. I could moonlight, easing financial stress. I became department head in 2018. May of '19 marked 6 years sobriety. My life needed to change and stringent requirements were initially important. This program, over time, threatened my mental health and career.

I had a friend that went to the Pine Grove Women’s center. She went kicking and screaming. Did not want to go. The staff were compassionate and patient with her. Within a couple of weeks she agreed she needed to be there and she stayed and got help. We are so thankful to “have her back” with us. Things had gotten really bad before she left. If you need help this is the place to go.

It is very hard to fully express the gratitude I feel for the help I received from the Professional Enhancement Program at Pine Grove. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, but the changes I have made are tremendous. The treatment team is very honest with each patient on their unhealthy patterns, and yes, sometimes it is hard to hear. However, I learned more about myself in this process than I ever have before. I can clearly see the patterns in relationships that I have repeated over and over, and I'm now making healthier choices and setting boundaries when they are needed. I worked on my trauma and family of origin issues that continued to cause problems for me, and I have learned new ways of interacting with my family, friends and coworkers so that I am able to get my needs met and ask for help. The treatment team worked hard to understand me and make recommendations that will be beneficial for me. My work situation was very complicated and they never gave up on me - they wanted to see me succeed and made sure they involved my monitoring program so that everyone was on the same page at discharge. I'm now back to work and things are much less stressful. I'm using the tools I learned at PEP every day, and as I said before, I'm forever grateful.

I was given hope for a new life. Going to treatment was the hardest, but the best thing that has ever happened to me. Pine Grove is very structured and offers an individual plan for each patient. They have one on one counseling, small group therapy and large group therapy. I was encouraged to dig deep into my emotions and work through painful life experiences. I was also taught proper communication and coping skills--which was vital to my sobriety and learned a lot about conflict resolution. The disease element of addiction was throughly discussed and helped me to understand how my brain had changed with my addiction and how an active program of recovery could help correct the negative changes. I physically was put back on track with a healthy diet, exercise, meditation and yoga. My life is forever changed because of the things I learned at Pine Grove and I am eternally grateful.

The facility is totally and completely unprofessional. My HIPPA rights were violated; my welfare was given no consideration; and, the staff is not conscientious in gathering or reporting information. Evaluations are unfair, biased and outrageously expensive! Some members of the staff demonstrated a complete lack of integrity for their profession. It is very unfortunate that they can continue to engage in practices that undermine the rights of patients. Stay away from this place. It should be closed.

Next Step is standard 12 step rehab. The people are nice and it's easy; it just doesn't work very well. Stay away from the PEP program. You'll end up with more problems.

Wonderful place of professionals that care for patients and their families. I would highly recommend this treatment for those seeking help for addiction, trauma, or professional license issues. The professionals recovery tract is especially helpful. The family program was very beneficial to my family and helped to restore communication between us. Sometimes the truth is hard to hear and people resist, but if you submit to the process it will help you in the end. So glad my family chose this place for me.

I'd give this place 0 stars if I could. My son wanted help after almost dying from an overdose. He called them wanting to go there. He gave them all of his information including insurance information. They said they would call him back. They never did. Obviously they don't care! That's okay. He found a better place that cares and wanted to help! Look elsewhere!

Had to put my daughter on closed unit for multiple psychiatric concerns. Most of the nurses answered my questions but the doctor wouldn't take time to call or return a call for a patient with the mentality of an 8 year old that can not make decisions for herself. They lost her glasses from day one along with her security teddy bear. My daughter came out behaving worse than she did going in.

WAIT UNTIL THE CONSTRUCTION IS DONE!! This is not a review of Pine Grove, it is a warning of conditions you may experience. Pine Grove is currently renovating the main building where the offices, cafeteria, psychiatric and detox patients are housed. The patient rooms are being renovated one at a time from the outside. They are literally knocking down a section of outside wall to access each room. The door to the hallway is kept locked, but it does not keep out the construction dust, sounds, or smells. The room adjacent to mine was under construction. A jackhammer was used throughout the day. Dust from the concrete floor that was being demolished was coming into the hallway through the gap under the locked door. It was also coming through an open vent in the wall of my room. I complained to the staff multiple times and even spoke to the manager of the Facility, a Ms. Fran. I was told the facility was completely full. I believe she intended to express empathy when she said she could hear the noise in her own office. That office happens to be on the other side of the building on a different wing. I could not bear being in the room until well after the crew left at 5 and the dust settled down. During this extensive time spent in the common area, I saw three other patients moved to other rooms. I hate being lied to, probably about as much as I hate snakes and other critters I was afraid would through the vent in my room still open to the woodsy outdoors. Day 2 started with the jackhammer and dust again. The last straw was the smell of raw sewage that started to come through the vent. I left the facility. I still don't understand why the discharge was considered against medical advice. I can not imagine any ethical physician would advise a patient to inhale sewer gas, breathe asbestos dust, and enjoy the lovely sound of a jackhammer from 5 feet away as part of a treatment program. Pine Grove has a great reputation as a treatment center, but this is wrong on so many levels. I am still amazed that they actually billed my insurance company for the room. Actually I'm not. If the bottom line was not more important than patient health and safety, this would not be happening.

A family member of mine stayed here last year. When she was taken to pine grove, she had no personal belongings other than the clothes on her back. She asked if I could bring her a pair of shoes. When I brought them, I had to wait at the desk for about five minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. The next day my aunt called saying that she never got the shoes. So I called and asked the people at the front desk who seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. Finally, someone in the background said “oh these shoes that have been sitting here all day that say (my family members name) ?” So at no point during the day did they stop to wonder if they should take those shoes to that person? This place has such an incompetent staff that I do not even want to imagine what it must be like to stay there. From all my family member said, it seems like a joke. Like they’re just pushing people through the place like cattle.

I was in the Legacy program from 9/11 through 12/10 and it was a real blessing to me! The love, care, and compassion I received was incredible! The staff were very compasionate and respectful. I highly recommend this place if your are in need of it’s services. The alumni association is a joy to participate with and it’s great seeing and making other friends who are journeying down the road of recovery. Looking forward to being at Days of Hope in June!

Caring and compassionate people who truly want to see people live their best life. They understand how vulnerable you feel and how frightening it can be, and every staff member I met from the janitorial services to the doctors were friendly and kind. They also emphasize total body wellness and provide stable psych patients plenty of time outside. There are fountains and walking trails. It's a beautiful campus and I had a great experience there. A small matter, but the food is also very good. Ms. Dimples, Ms. Dorinda, and so many others I can't name right right now. A topnotch facility filled with devoted and caring professionals.

I’m shocked as to how unprofessional Pine Grove has treated some of its patients in the past. While there have been people that have left with great experiences, I’m disheartened by some of the negative experiences I’ve heard and witnessed. The staff has a general issue with showing compassion to the patients that are admitted and have been jaded by the negative experiences brought upon by over working and a difficult job environment. I would recommend that Pine Grove takes a hard look at the staff on site and reevaluate some of the regulations they have in place to ensure that the staff treats patients like humans rather than animals. If Pine Grove desires to be a leading treatment facility in the state of Mississippi, there will need to be some major changes put in place to ensure that patients and families of patients are treated with respect. The most important factor for any treatment facility should be to come as an advocate for those in need, yet I have heard and witnessed multiple instances of clear lack of respect and honor towards the career of social work and counseling. Please take a hard look as to how some of the toxicity in the environment can be fixed! Thank you!

Most horrible experience I have ever had. My son was admitted for detox and psychotherapy. For over three weeks I was left with little information and unable to talk with my son. No doctor ever called me. I requested a conference call with my ex-wife and the staff. They never scheduled it and also said their phones don't have conference capability. So I offered my business conference phone, but they still never scheduled. As concerns got worse, I requested to speak to the director. Isaac talked to me briefly and once I mentioned I was recording the call, he hung up. A lower level staff called saying I need to pick my son up and they were kicking him out. I called the director again and he hung up on me twice, once screaming and pounding his fist on the table. I called the executive director and left an urgent message. They never called back. The next day I made repeated attempts and they stopped answering my calls entirely. My ex-wife is coincidentally a Psych RN and also had similar poor experiences. Since she and I live in other states, I called the Hattiesburg Police to request they do a wellness check. They refused saying that the facility has their own private security. I called their security and they also refused to do a wellness check. Called the Sheriff, same answer. Evidently the police think that HIPPA prevents them from setting foot in the facility. So they facility is not subject to law enforcement and can do whatever they want. Called the state police..... Mississippi does not have state police. In trying to have him transferred they said I needed to pick him up. After a brief call with my son they said he was being released immediately and they dropped him off at a closed train station in the dark of the night with homeless people sleeping all around. He ended up in a cab to now Orleans for $300. My son's HIPPA information was purposely disclosed to other patients and he was teased by several other patients in group therapy about this HIPPA information. On another note, they have a bazaar system of having the mental health patients elect their own leaders and they kinda run the show rather than the staff. True anarchy in my mind. Oh, and they also took a lot of our money for this prison encampment gone wild. Thankfully, my son is being transferred to a real facility.

A lifelong alumni program offered to give you continued support. I would highly recommend this program to anyone!

Would give a zero star if that was an option. My friend was in for 5 days. He only had a pair of shorts and a shirt with him that he was wearing. I brought in clothes on a Wednesday for him. 2 days later he gets out and still never got his clothes. They claim they couldnt find them. He had to wear dirty clothes for 5 days! Unacceptable!!! Still supposably cant find his clothes. A few days before Christmas and this happens. Sad this is this isnt the first time its happened. I understand that clothes need to be checked for safety concerns, but not caring if someone has anything to wear especially when they have clothes in the facility to wear is ridiculous! Then to lose or steal their belonging is the sorriest of sorry people. First time there his bank card was stolen. Second time was new clothes from walmart. And these were now the only clothes he had to his name! Worst place ever!!!!

I was there for 5 days. Some of the staff were very caring and patient, but there were also staff that lacked compassion and patience. Some staff treated me like a child in time out. Eating in the cafeteria to them is a prvilage that is earned by making every group all day if you miss one group you lose the privilege to eat in the cafeteria. I felt like this was wrong and kind of degrading. There is NO counseling available you see a therapist one time and its maybe 5 or ten minutes when you first get there. You see your doctor for less than that. The positive for me was I was able to get back on my medication and was able to get away from everything so I could clear my head.
