I don’t know about the abilities of this counseling office as I was never seen. I called early October hoping to make an appointment and was told there were 150 people on the waiting list ahead of me. The average wait time was about 3 weeks. It’s now the end of November and the office called me to inform me that I would have to wait until next semester to be seen and there were still about 30 people ahead of me. Now I imagine this is of no fault of the employees there. This mostly seems like an issue the University needs to address as it does not appear to be able to meet the needs of its student body. There simply aren’t enough therapists for the number of students needing assistance. I should note walk in appointments are available but as someone who is not experiencing a full blown mental health crisis, it’s hard to justify taking that time away from someone who might be in panic mode know how booked everything is. I hope Mississippi State is working towards a solution.
