My wife and I wanted to get some counseling around a stuck point of ours. We showed up for our first appointment and were seen late. Ten minutes after our scheduled time, a person appears to greet us and take us to our room. This person had no idea what time it was and where we were meeting. Not a good first impression! We sit down and the counselor realizes that she forgot our notes. These are the information sheets we filled out prior to coming. The counselor comes back with our sheets and proceeds to read them while we talk. She had no idea who we were and was completely unprepared for our time together. In addition to this, we had to sign a sheet stating that she was being supervised. This was not on the website, had it been, we would have requested someone with more experience. We continue. My wife and I make introductions and talk about why we are there. The counselor spends at least 25 minutes of our session talking and preaching to us. She reminded us that we need to go deeper with God and trust him more. Thanks for the sermon, I thought we were here for counseling. The counselor cut me off at one point so she could talk! Towards the end, I commented on some of the things that were bothering me about her style of counseling. She said, "this is my style and you may need to see someone else." My wife and I agreed and left. We called back and there are no counselors with open schedules. Black listed for giving feedback! Before I close, the counselor shared with us that it took her almost 10 years to become a counselor, but she stayed faifthful and God came through. Maybe God was trying to show you that counseling was not your gifting. Just a thought. Terrible experience. Please go somewhere where you are valued, listened to, and not shunned when you talk about your feelings in relation to a poor counseling experience.
