I am a psychiatrist in Scottsdale and my teenage daughter has been going to doctor Shier for four years now. She is adopted and has a variety of complex issues. Dr. Shier does excellent work, and has a nice balance balance between professional and compassionate personal style. I have read the one star review from the father of a teenage son and it makes no sense to me. It is so "off" from any imaginable encounter with Dr. Shier, I wonder if he has her confused with someone else. I have referred other patients to her and have never received anything but good feedback. Since I am in the medical field my bar is high and she meets it easily. I also am aware that all sorts of people can write unfair reviews with a variety of motivations. I wanted to set the record straight on this one.

Staff is friendly, responsive ,and helpful. I was very impressed with Dr Bochtler. I was nervous and apprehensive about the appt, but her empathetic and thoughtful approach put me at ease. I should have made appt years ago.

Came here hoping to get some support with my soon to be teenage son some much needed guidance. I was disappointed to say the least in Dr Anna Shier's cavalier attitude. I was looking for a safe space with my son but instead she seemed to be preoccupied with other things. While we were waiting I heard her talking about other things like taxes, cars, etc and when she came in she was rushed. We won't be returning and I hope this was only a one time incident.

We have been struggling with mental health problems due to trauma for several years. My granddaughter was on so many meds that she was just existing. After switching over to the Shier Group, Dr Blotchler has helped her be able to get off of some very serious medications that were causing her other issues. She has started to actually feel again and deal with her feelings rather than mask them. I would highly recommend her to anyone with children that have issues with loss or depression.

I can only say positive things about the Shier Private practice and Dr. Shier. Being a professional myself, I am acutely aware of how I am treated in doctors' offices and by the doctors themselves. I have only experienced complete courtesy and respectful treatment there. I wouldn't be surprised if the negative commenter on this review site has the wrong doctor in mind. The doctors Shier are consummate professionals. I would recommend them to anyone. And, if needed, it would be the first place I would take my child for treatment. M

Dr. Anna Shier is hands down the best doctor/ psychiatrist I have ever seen and I have seen plenty of psychiatrists in AZ and no one has helped me as much as she has. Dr. Anna Shier is empathetic and compassionate truly understands clients needs and goals. She is also very educated and intelligent and is always providing me with psychoeducation. She helped me during one of the most difficult times in my life and I am so thankful I came to see her because she has been a great help and support to have. Dr. Anna Shier is one of the most culturally competent and sensitive doctors I have ever met and she took my cultural background into consideration when we discussed the medications. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend Dr. Anna Shier to other individuals that are having mental health problems and need a really good psychiatrist to address their needs. The appointments are pricey, but the quality care that she provides is worth the amount of money you will be spending.(5/5 rating) I saw the psychologist Dr. Audra Horney a few times and stopped receiving services from her because she had a really bad attitude and was pressuring me to come more often and didn't understand the fact that it is extremely expensive to see her weekly and she did not want to accommodate my needs as I wanted to see her biweekly. She would also cut our sessions short, which I didn't like because I pay a lot of money to see her. She was not culturally sensitive or competent and was not an empathetic or compassionate psychologist, so I do not recommend her. (0/5 rating)

I was encouraged by the glowing reviews to believe that this could be the place to help my daughter, however the costs are prohibitive for our family. While I understand the advantages for doctors/patients of not being constrained by insurance contracts, the fact that they do not take insurance makes this a doctor's office for the 1%.
