My one (and only) appointment with Dr. Rooker was, by far, the absolute worst experience I have ever had with a medical professional. First, it took nearly two months to set up an appointment to discuss transferring treatment to him from my home doctor, and I spent the bulk of those two months either bending over backwards to get his office multiple copies of important documents/paperwork or playing telephone tag with his receptionist, who was very difficult to get in touch with and ended up delaying the appointment by nearly a month. Second, they only take cash and require a $75 copay for each appointment (plus an additional $100 for the first) BEFORE the appointment, which in and of itself should throw up red flags. Finally, after close to two hours of filling out even more redundant paperwork, I finally got my appointment. Dr. Rooker had no idea why I was in to see him, and the first half of the appointment was him asking me questions that were already covered in great detail in the documents I'd had mailed to the office a month earlier. The second half of the appointment was him that the problem I had been receiving treatment for wasn't a legitimate issue. He outright refused to help me at all or prescribe any more of the medication I'd been given by my doctor in my hometown (I'm a college student hundreds of miles away from home, so it's very difficult going to my hometown and back in a single day), so I walked out after about 15 minutes. I may yet try and demand a refund since his receptionist spent two months assuring me that "Dr. Rooker can certainly help you, it'll be no problem transferring treatment and getting the prescription you need!", when in truth, Dr. Rooker had a great deal of time to look over my paperwork and, if he had no intention of treating me, could've done as any self-respecting medical professional would've done and contacted me as soon as possible instead of waiting until I had already paid for an appointment before essentially telling me he didn't want to help me. My overall experience was that both Dr. Rooker and his receptionist were unprofessional and dishonest, and if you're looking for psychiatric services in the New River Valley, go anywhere but here.

He is very rude and unpleasant to work with. He's very unsympathetic and very "its just a you issue so only you can fix it nothing else will help" last I checked that was untrue

If I could give him a NO STAR I would.. don't waste your time, money or even driving to the place.. he is horrible puts you on meds that you don't need.

TERRIBLE I CALLED ABOUT AN APPOINTMENT TO GET MY XANAX BACK SINCE MY OLD DR. RETIRED. I NEVER GOT TO TALK TO THE DR BUT HIS KNOW IT ALL NURSE TOLD ME SHE KNEW WHAT SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT AND SHE SAID SHE AGREED WITH DR. HENDRICKS. MY DR OF 9 YEARS HAD ME ON 3MGS A DAY. CURRENT DR GIVES ME 20 AND SAYS TAKE A HALF EVERY OTHER DAY!!!!!! SO IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A DR OR SHRINK THAT WILL GIVE ME MY XANAX BACK CAUSE GOING FROM 90 TO 20 DOESN'T REALLY WORK FOR MY PTSD OR ANXIETY DISORDERS. HIS NURSE NEEDS TO FIND A DIFFERENT JOB. NOBODY WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES DOESN'T NEED TO BE TALKED TO AND HUNG UP ON AFTER SHE WOULDN'T LET ME TALK TO DR. ROOKER. WE SHOULD ALL FILE A COMPL5WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU!!! LIKE I SAID IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A DR WHO WILL PRESCRIBED XANAX OR KLONOPINS PLEASE HIT ME UP JESSICA LASHUS I'M ON FB.

DO NOT GO TO DR.ROOKER. By far the WORST experience I have ever had at a doctors office. There is only one receptionist at the office and she is extremely rude and unprofessional. Today, I called to cancel a future appointment and to try to get money back that they owed me. They way overcharged me on my first visit and refuse to pay me back the money that they owe me. When I called her today she said that they did not owe my anything and would not be paying me anything and then she cut me off mid sentence and hung up the phone on me. She also will not send me a billing statement or receipt of payment that I made to their office for my vert firat appoint mentioned with them overy 2 mon the ago. They do not accept credit cards and force you to pay in cash or check. Dr.Rooker himself is very unpleasant. He refused to let me continue on medications that I had been taking for over 2 years and had done very well with just because "he didn't like those meds." I was prescribed a different medication by him that made me very sick. He refused to give me a medication other than that one. When telling him about myself he made some very inappropriate comments. He told me that "it was very odd" that I was adopted by two Caucasian parents when I was not Caucasian myself. The rest of the appointment was followed by similar comments. Please save yourself the trouble and your money....DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR!!!!

If I could give zero stars I would. I usually read reviews before seeing a doctor, unfortunately I gave this doctors office a chance anyway. His office staff of one is terrible. She was rude and never checked our insurance. They just take full payment up front and good luck getting a refund. She actually pushed me today. The doctor is rude, condescending and is not willing to listen to his patients.

My experience with dr rooker was very poor. But i was forced to go to him because I couldn't find anyone else. My initial bill came to $175. and then $75 for each visit afterwards. Now here's the kicker, I am on medicare and should not have paid anything. I told Nancy the receptionist that I wanted a refund and now 4 months later still waiting.

I'm unsure why there are so many negative reviews. Dr. Rooker is fantastic. He really talks with you and keeps detailed notes on what's going on in your life, rather than just prescribing any old meds. I've had family and friends who go to doctors who just prescribe and go on to the next patient, but Dr. Rooker takes his time to really get to know you. I am thrilled to have the chance to work with him and try to improve my life.
