I would highly recommend this practice. Gary is down to earth, insightful, and very compassionate. My husband and I have seen Gary to help us deal with issues in our marriage before they became insurmountable. I also have seen Gary on and individual basis, and he has helped to learn to deal with issues in my life that I have no control over and how to learn to live with it. The staff is very helpful also.

Kim WAS my daughter's therapist and she was absolutely wonderful with her. However, my daughter went from being seen once and week, to every other week, and then once a month. That being said, I NEVER received a reminder call for my daughter's appointment because they said they only send out emails. When I asked what was the email address that was used because I NEVER received an email, the receptionist read back a WRONG email address. Now they want to charge me $75 because I received a reminder that I set on my phone 20 minutes prior to the appointment my daughter had an appointment, but could not make. They're charging me $75 because I didn't give 24 hours notice to any appointment that was made a month ago. But they claimed they waived the $75 fee to a missed appointment back on October 1st, THAT I NEVER CONFIRMED THE APPOINTMENT FOR because Kim could not see my daughter on the original scheduled day. I have NEVER missed an appointment for my daughter, but because it's "company policy" they're not allowed to waived a fee of an appointment that I actually scheduled, but can waive a fee to an appointment that was never confirmed??? This was told to me by Kim, and the office manager, and told me that there was no real reason for me to speak with the owner Gary because he won't waive the fee because it's "company policy". Then was told by the office manager, this is not a punishment or to make you upset, but this is the consequence of calling 20 minutes prior because Kim is missing out on an whole hour, and 20 minutes doesn't give her time enough to fill that spot. The entire conversation with both women I kept hearing "company policy". Not even taking into consideration that my daughter has NEVER missed a SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT prior to the one today that I called 20 minutes prior! I don't have $75 to just GIVE AWAY!!

My experience at Fairfield Psychological has changed me greatly. My wife and I have been seeing Gary for a long time. During that time I've learn more about myself. From that, my wife and I now have a better relationship. If I have any questions or concerns about a situations, he helps me to figure out the answer so that I can adequately make the right decision for myself. They have a great staff and a very clean and calm office. I would recommend this service to everyone.

The receptionists are always really nice, and have worked with me with many different things I have needed. 100% would recommend.

Dr Gary provides a wonderful caring atmosphere and I know that our sessions are helping me to better manage my home and family life. I find myself moving forward and making decisions that put more emphasis on my well being.

If you are in the MILITARY family be aware and stay AWAY as far as you can from this place. Or you will end up paying a lot more than you owe or even get into debt collection without knowing it. Ok, here my story: My daughter goes to see Gary for therapy session. From September 2013 to November 2013. She has 8 sessions total. I have a Tricare Insurance. Every time I drop my daughter, I see people give them co-pay so I asked multiple times at the front desk if I need to pay a copay as well, each time they told me they have to wait for tricare claim because they won't know how much but will send a bill. Those three months (Sept-Nov. 2013) not once I was asked at front for a copay nor a bill sent to me. Additionally, the three months I also did not receive a summary of explanation benefits from tricare (yes, I pay attention to those) 7 months later, we moved and got stationed in Pensacola, Fl. Still no bills or letter from them. I assumed the sessions are paid in full by tricare. We are in January 2015, a year and two months after my daughter's last session with them, I received a bill for $300 for copays plus late fees, and attorneys fees and a mark on on credit report for debt incurred!!!! I have no problem paying what I owe but my problem is that why do I have to pay all this extra fees and collection fees when I did not even receive a bill in the first place. When I spoke with the office Manager, RITA, she was extremely RUDE with no business etiquette . When I spoke to her immediately to ask an invoice of the bill since what all I have is just a threatening letter from a collection agency saying I owe them and I need to pay within few days or I will be charge for more interest, she told me she can no longer give me the invoice. I said, all I want it know what the bill for and for when and how much. She rudely tells me she is unable to pull the information for me since it is in collection and that I need to talk to them. I told her i NEVER receive a bill. She then admitted she sent the bill ONCE in July of 2014, after we move to Pensacola and never receive any bill. She then said that it is not her problem you should have gotten a bill from tricare. Well news flash, tricare does not send bills. She proceeded to tell me that she is not going to sit and listen to me and refuse to let me know what the bill exactly was for. Because it took them seven months to send an invoice once and if you don't receive it, they won't make any more effort to collect the money, they will just send you to collection right away. AGAIN, it is frustrating when your bill send to collection when you did not get the bill in the first place and I do not have a problem paying for the bill. I just want to know what the detailed invoice for and how much each time if it is a co-pay. All I got is a letter from a collection agency demanding an amount. Now I have to pay double the price including dinging my credit score because they could careless in doing their job right. They should have sent me a bill more than once, it would have reach me through mail forwarding but since they did not make any effort now I am to pay more than what I owe. Super frustrating!! So consider this a warning to MILITARY Family and other families especially if you move somewhere. They are not helpful and not willing to work with you even if it is not your fault.

Received a letter today that they will no longer treat our son because the way my husband acted to the front desk staff... well first my son has been on several medications for 5 years my husband showed up for an appt they said that called to cancel and did not call us . Was my husband upset yes however no more than any other parent not having the perscribed medicine now for over a week and no common courtesy to call . What a joke. You want to help people give me a break . Horrible service , poor staff, and very unprofessional .

Julianna Taylor-Mulder

I switched to Fairfield Psychological after recieving constant terrible treatment at Dominion Psychiatric. The doctors I've had at Fairfield have worked with me for my disorders in such a way that I've made a lot of progress in regards to being on the right medications. They have been more than helpful with the disability paperwork my lawyers require for my case, and they always go out of their way to make every appointment a good one. I highly dislike Psychiatric doctors (mainly therapists, but I've chosen not to see one at this time) -- they make me very uncomfortable -- but all the doctors and staff have been so amazing that I find myself extremely comfortable every time I have an appointment (aside from the two times my doctor changed unexpectantly due to them leaving the practice). Even when my doctor changed, the new ones both went out of their way to help me feel more than comfortable with them and their treatment of my disorders. Laura at the front desk always goes above and beyond to help with any and every thing I need, and is honestly the best "receptionist" I've ever met. I would, without hesitation, recommend Fairfield Psych to anyone seeking mental health treatment! -Brandy Hudgins

This business has one of the worst late policies I have ever seen. If you are 7 minutes late, not only is your appointment canceled but you are also charged $75. In the Hampton roads area, we all know that traffic will often dictate arrival time regardless how early you leave. I understand missing an appointment but if you have only missed 8 minutes and can still be seen, wouldn’t it benefit all parties to see if the patient be accommodated? At the end of the day, policies should protect the business but also be reasonable for the customer/patient. I feel this policy benefits their pockets more than providing reasonable services. I’ll be looking for a better clinic as the soonest availability.

Leigh Phaneuf

Great experience here with Justin Ray. Thankful they now send reminders via text. I would highly recommend this office.

Bobbi Gibson

This is getting ridiculous I have called the office 9 time's in the last 2 hrs and nobody has picked phone up so I can reschedule my son's appointment

Kyrie Johnson

How do you have 3 receptionists and they can’t answer any phone calls?

Victoria Anderson

I said here for 20 minutes past my appointment and never got seen and they said oh I'm sorry I'll reschedule you ridiculous

Leigh Wahr

I had to click a star in order to post my review but they don’t deserve a single star. This place is so disgusting. So money hungry it’s sick. Just Pathetic. They claimed they send out appointment reminders via email. I didn’t get one and missed my appointment acccidenly- CAUSE I’M HUMAN, and mistakes happen. Then want to charge $75 for a mistake haha - just don’t go here if you actually want help Editing this post to your response- yes, I did happily decline the reduction of $75 fee to $50. I was seen for some post partum depression and anxiety NOT confusion or forgetfulness. Don’t talk to me condescending. Another bad thing about this practice. I declined this because YOU ALL claim to send out email appointment reminders and I never got one - ever - the entire time I went to this place. The girl who couldn’t get the fax machine to work; the same girl who was crying over a paper cut probably put my email in wrong or something. So, as much as I am at fault for missing that appointment - I’m blaming y’all too! You should take all this money your making off of people’s misfortune and buy some equipment that works or some better workers. Just my 2 cents

Mary Ketchum

I’ve been trying to get in as a new patient and can NEVER get anyone on the phone. Have to go elsewhere who actually knows how to use a phone or is staffed enough to answer them. Disappointed because I heard the drs were good.

Elizabeth Roden

It has been amazing. I would recommend Fairfield to anyone who may need help.

Maureen Palmer

Everyone I mean all the staff are so awesome I could be having one of the worst days ever its like magic my worries seem to go away I always fell so much better after I have my appointment with Gary he listens he cares, to me you cant get any better than that. I have been going to see DR.GARY for more years than I'd ratter say, office girls Rita I fell in love with, she is always smiling and ready to listen Laura I,m getting to know she has been great as well The doctors are wonderful as well in all reality many years ago I had gone to other psychological practices I stopped going all together until I had been recommended to by my child pediatrician, she still loves him I saw how he was with her several years later I decided to see Dr.Gary I would never leave them,no place has ever made me fell so comfortable as everyone in this office. Thanks

Fairfield Psychological Associates has been great. I have had numerous experiences with mental health doctors (both in the military and outside of the military) and this facility has been hands down the best I have worked with. Pascal is nothing short of AMAZING. This guy has made himself available to me 24 hours a day, and has always made me a priority, despite the fact that I am not his only patient. He actually listens to my needs and concerns, and thoroughly goes through every single concern or question that I have. He even went as far as making sure I knew I could get ahold of him whenever I needed to and made me feel comfortable to utilize that. That is something you do not see every day. Since seeing Pascal, and mind you It took A LOT for me to take the first step to seek out someone to talk to, I couldn't be happier. With his understanding demeanor and ability to really get to the issues at hand, I can genuinely say that I enjoy going to therapy. My life is genuinely better because of this place, and Pascal is a large reason for that. #Pascal2k17

1 Star for the dysfunctional receptionists not doctor Pascal. If you actually take time to read the reviews below you can tell he is the only reason people actually go here. You can attempt to call the office although no one answers. If you leave a voicemail you might get a response several days later. Once I called because I was waiting weeks for them to file out paperwork for my pharmacy. The receptionists advised that the sent the paperwork to call my insurance company. I asked her a simple question "When was it sent?" Her response was I don't know last week or this week. I advised multiple times that I would like to know exactly when. She advised that it would take time to locate a paper file that was somewhere in the office and that it would be faster to call my insurance company. I advise that I will call them but still want to know when. She then took my contact info and said she would call back.......NEVER RECEIVED A CALL BACK! So I show up for my appointment yesterday, the receptionist said I owe $75 for a no show fee for an appointment on 9/20. The receptionist rolled her eyes and advised that the call is a courtesy call they don't have to do it. Yet when I was calling back to back no one felt the need to let me know I had an appointment or that it was missed almost a month ago. VERY DISORGANIZED. THIS PLACE WILL GIVE YOU ANXIETY NOT HELP WITH IT. ***UPDATE*** Due to this post I just received a letter in the mail advising "Fairfield Psychological Associates will no longer provide me care." I guess freedom of speech doesn't exist. LIKE I SAID IN THE PREVIOUS POST.....THIS PLACE WILL GIVE YOU ANXIETY NOT HELP WITH IT.

Another crappy Virginia mental health facility. Call me stunned!

I just came here for the reviews. Lol. I do actually recommend them to people who ask me where I go. As I read all the reviews I made sure to keep in the back of my mind this is a business to treat people with all types of mental disorders. That being said my daughter and myself go here and maybe once have I encountered a bump in the road. The time it took to fill out a form I needed so I could get cleared by a company doctor to perform my job duties. It took a week BUT I’m also FULLY AWARE these doctors have a set daily work schedule of seeing patients. Therefore I knew it could possibly take some time. I just made sure I continued to follow up with the VERY HELPFUL receptionist. Which by the way I’ve NEVER had an issue with her,Justin ray and Natalies receptionist. She is friendly, respectful, understanding and listens. She DOES her job. Maybe, it’s the way y’all come off? Do you come in with a smile and greet her? If there’s an issue do you talk with respect or are you flying off the handle like you’ve been on a vacation from the meds? Geesh, some people just can’t be helped. Ha All these negative reviews about the front desk and being charged for cancellation is comical. Do you NOT read what you sign?! $75 isn’t even their full price. They don’t work for free people. Phone call, email or text YOU should be accountable for showing up for your own appointments. After all YOU are the one who requested to reserve the doctors time block. Now, the review about The doctors note and being sick I understand. I’ve had the flu but I called the practice I was at and explained and asked if it could be waived. If it couldn’t then I’d come in and try not to spread the flu. That practice waived it. Sometimes things happen that are out of your control but one shouldn’t let their mishap trickle down to others. Suck it up and Pay the cancellation fee or move on because you could be taken up a space that I need :)

We have been seeing Gary and Sam for a few years now and we are very grateful for the services provided to me and my entire family. Teenage years are difficult for us as parents and for our children as they seek to find themselves. Fairfield has played the shoulder for us to lean on and the ear for our children to cry. We can not think of a better place to help us navigate through the issues we did not ever expect to have as involved parents. Sometimes love, understanding and nuturing is not enough. I'm so happy we found the right team to help us. I strongly endorse Gary and Fairfield Psychology.

Dr Gary is pretty straight forward and did well with my family considering I’m still married-yay. And Dr Pascal has been amazing - always remembers me and my situation regardless of the time between appts, very relaxed and caring as well. I’d have no problem referring other moms with ppd or even children, as he’s always been attentive to not just my needs but my children’s needs as well.

The front desk of this office whomever she may be has no social skills. She threatened me said I was never welcome in the office and if I ever called back they would call the police on me for harassment. I was trying to get in touch with whomever was Counseling my child. I have been given a email reminder, a text message reminder and a phone call reminder. I didn't even know about the appointment. I tried to call and cancel. I tried to email and cancel and of course, when you text message you cannot text back you have to call. When you call, whoever this person is will never call you back. After four attempts of calling in one day, this young sounding female finally picked up the phone, I told her I was frustrated because I don't know who I'm talking to or who seeing my child. All she would say is I can't talk to you. I'm a very pleasant and kind person but when it comes to my child I have a zero tolerance for a psychiatric facility to talk to me that way. It's affected me all day I have never had anyone in my life talk that way to me. I'm surprised this office is still in business.

I have had several good encounters here, from the constant professionalism of the staff to the dedication of my doctor, Justin Ray, I recommend this facility to all my friends and family, really appreciate Sydney at the front desk for always being so genuine and easy to communicate with, A list receptionist!!

Janine Rush

I highly recommend Fairfield Psychological Associates. The entire staff is professional, courteous, and flexible.

Melissa Hansen

Had no problems with Justin, but the front desk staff. Instead of admitting that they make a mistake they will play the blame game. I was scheduled an appointment for a time Justin wasn't going to be there. On day of appointment I get a phone call to reschedule. I was told they attempted to call me two weeks prior and left a message but I never called back. Maybe because I never received a missed call from them. I don't care for someone telling me that I'm wrong because it is documented right there that they called. Maybe the wrong number was dialed? I could understand that. We are human and make mistakes. Nope, not these ladies. I must have wrote the number down wrong. Even though they have my correct number. Nope, just another example of "professionals" playing the blame game. Do not go here until they train the front staff on being professionals.

Mz Feisty

Between the receptionist and the psychiatrist they are uncaring and unhelpful...

I couldn't be more grateful for the staff at Fairview Psychological. Working towards goals with support and understanding makes all the difference. Highly recommended.

Bill Ryll

Excellent office staff , Rita and Laura are very helpful. I have had a very nice experience with all the staff in this office. They all are very knowledgeable and professional staff.

AnneMarie Woods

I absolutely loved working with Dr. Justin Ray. However, the front desk staff are the worst and ultimately led me to leave the practice. At one point I had to leave the office crying due to judgements from a woman behind the front desk. I had come in already upset, and I saw this woman shaking her head as she discussed my state with another woman in front of her. The final straw was when I missed an appointment. I called to double check the time and found out I had already missed it. Instead of any support or understanding, all I got was “you will have to pay the no-show fee,” as if the money was all that mattered. I found a new doctor immediately. Today, I got a letter saying the practice was no longer able to assist me due to too many missed visits. Never have I had such a bad experience.

Tangie Watkins-Deavers

"No Food or Beverage allowed in the waiting area" that is a sign on the window in front of the receptionist desk. This sign is exactly what it says because if you're behind the window you can eat and drink as much as you want. While waiting for my son's session to be over I was gagging over whatever they were eating behind the window. It stank up the entire waiting area to the point that I needed to go out for fresh air and come back in. The Psychotherapist (Gary Rotfus) my son is seeing is no better. He's ALWAYS late for his appointments and doesn't seem to helping my son at all. It's in our best interest to go someplace else because this place is not working

Brandon Price

I have had a great experience with Justin ray. I would recommend this place to others but there receptionist never answer there phones. They will not return calls and messages that my wife and I have left them even though on there voicemail it says they will return your call in 24 hours. There email reminder system sucks what happened to getting a call or text reminders.

jessica langham

Pascal is the best!!! Always friendly and understanding!!! Convenient after work hours. Able to get you in quick! Would highly recommend for children with ADHD and Autism. Thanks again!

Sam Sheppard

Never had a problem at this Office and have been coming for quite some time. Care has been generally above expectations. The comments below are perplexing but then again this is a psych office so..... Whenever I make a follow up appointment I put it in my calendar. I would assume that most people do that. What is the purpose of making a follow up appointment after all? Not sure why the staff have to be responsible to remind the person about their own appointment? I mean when I buy a concert ticket does the musician call me, text me, email me, or otherwise contact me by any means to remind me of the date and time of the performance? If I didn't go to the concert because nobody reminded me does the venue give me my money back? When I make a reservation at a restaurant does the restaurant call me to remind me of said reservation? When I have an appointment for a parent teacher conference does the teacher need to send an Uber to my house to bring me to that appointment? When my son has a football game does the school send me a text to remind me of the date and time? When I am late on a car payment but I called and left a message with the bank that I was going to be late is the penalty forgiven? "But I called." I honestly feel bad for the front office staff and the idea that people simply can't hold themselves responsible for their own stuff and it's everybody else's fault. I'll tell you one thing, it appears Fairfield has their hands full. I wish them luck. All I can say is that they have helped me along my path but I have more road to travel so I better keep it moving. Keep your heads up Fairfield, some of us need you.

My husband and I have been seeing Gary for counseling for a couple of months now and have had a very positive experience with Gary and the practice so far. Gary is an even mix of laid back and direct. He has provided a comfortable atmosphere for both myself and my husband, while also addressing potential underlying issues in our relationship without leaving either of us feeling uncomfortable. I consider this to be a very difficult task for a counselor when dealing with two people at a time. Therefore, I highly recommend Gary as a seasoned and highly professional counselor.

Danielle Lloyd

At 26, unfortunately, I have gone thru many life altering situations that caused me to have severe PTSD. To the point I could work myself into a grand mal seizure. After 12 years with my family practitioner, numerous neurologists, and just about every medication out there, I finally found someone who actually spent time with me and listened to what has worked and didn't. Marcelli Pascal-Rodriguez (Pascal) was truly a God sent! Before him, I had never had a doctor call me to see how I was adjusting to new meds, assure me he is always available even just a text away, show such incredible patience or do some extra research into your situation. I recommend him highly to anyone who thinks or knows they need some extra help! I have never felt at such ease going in to see a doctor or therapist. He truly, not exaggerating, saved my life because I was not doing good mentally, emotionally, or physically before our first visit. I am so incredibly thankful I found Pascal and for what he's helped me do and continue to. AND NOW HE HAS MOVED TO FAMILY INSIGHT WHICH IS WHERE I WILL FOLLOW HIM TO!!!!!!! You want the best med therapy go see Pascal!

Alex Hanson

I have been bringing my son to Fairfield for almost 2 years. He is 17 years old and feels comfortably with Justin Ray and is finally taking his medication as prescribed and doing very well. He was seeing a counselor as well who has since moved to another state. Both providers have helped him tremendously! I do not go back with him so I spend a good amount of time in the waiting room while he is being seen. I can say that I've seen the front desk and others come out to handle many difficult situations and I have never see them act inappropriately. Front office staff, and Rita and Sydney are incredible and sweet, and go out of their way to help myself and many others. They do a great job of handling tough situations and I commend them for patience I sure don't have! I have witnessed them explain the same policy repeatedly to the patient in front of them. I myself have missed an appointment before and as much as it sucks, I paid the no show fee and kept it moving. I understand the reason behind it and I do not blame the office. I'm sure this is a difficult population of people to deal with and they do an excellent job. To someone new thinking of coming here don't let some of these reviews deter you from the office they have truly helped my family.

Mary Lantier

Dr Justin Ray is very laid back and easy to talk to.

John Rose

Horrible experience here. Do not trust these people. They will take advantage of you and your condition. Stay away from these horrible counselors! Avoid Dr. Gary and don't trust him.. Not worth a single star. You have been warned.

claire allen

marcus pyatt

there phone recipionist never answers the phone so how are you or the pharmacy suppose to get a hold of anyone,so if they cant answer the phone they need to be replaced

Papa Lima

Pascal is the best, very professional and such a great medical provider, his understanding and passion is what makes it easy to visit. Nice shoes too.

emily king

Appreciate this office and all of the staff SO much. Front office girls go out of their way to help you out with things they don't have to, they are so sweet and actually talk to you say hello, etc. It makes me feel way more comfortable than any other office I have ever been to. Love Fairfield and am so thankful I found this place.

Ms Byrd

While scheduling an appointment the receptionist was the absolute worst. She became more helpful throughout the call but I literally just wanted to hang up.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank Justin Ray and the front office staff for everything that they do! Just a brief overview, tonight as I was sitting in the lobby awaiting my appointment I witnessed Justin and his office staff handling a patient in crisis. With that being said, this resulted in Justin falling behind with his scheduled appointments. This was not a big deal for me because I'd rather the staff handle a crisis as they should. If it were myself in the situation, I would want them to give me the same amount of patience as they gave to that patient of theirs tonight. I witnessed a couple people start to get irate and irritated with the front office staff because the doctor had fallen behind and the staff remained calm and handled the situation very well. While I was checking out, the young ladies who when asked stated their names are Sydney and Rita, thanked me for being so patient while waiting for my appointment. As I said previously in this review, I would rather them focus more on the person in crisis.

Bekah James

Wonderful front desk staff and superior counselors.

Melissa Forrest Coffin

The receptionist was horrible - lack of compassion, empathy, and poor attitude as if I was inconveniencing her when she's the one answering the phone and I'm guessing part of her job duties are to schedule new patient appointments. Needless to say, this practice is not getting my business nor would I recommend them to anyone who is in urgent need of psychiatric medical treatment or as in my case, looking for a new psychiatrist as my previous psych of over 12 years has just retired and I am in the market for a new doctor. So far, this is the worst receptionist I have encountered throughout my search! Don't even bother calling them, your'e wasting your time!

Virginia Satir

Enjoyed my counselor, but dissatisfied with the overall management of the practice ... will update.
