Awful place to get help. You see multiple "doctors" who will talk to you for about 5-10 minutes. I felt I was being researched and was not being helped. Do not take someone here if you feel like they need help it will just get worst for that person. Go elsewhere!

staff was very helpfull the doctors are horible. i entered dotox beimg assured they would medicat me to make me feel comfortable and in the 8 days i was detox i never was anywhere close to comfortable and then was made to leave while still in withdrawls because my insurance wouldnt cover any more they got me outta there because with this place its all about the money money money if you got it stay as long as you want if you dont have money then theirs the door just more up top ceo's filling their pocket and not doing anything that shows genuine caring to help people get through their addictions (marcy, brittany justin do care tones but those are the only ones

I had a family member who was frequently engaging in self-harm, suicidal and on multiple drugs get treatment here. He was stabilized on medications and they coordinated with a residential treatment facility for him to transition to afterwards. He is now sober, stable, and a great father to a young son. If your loved ones are struggling, please, please help them seek treatment. Treatment works! I would highly recommend Highland Ridge Hospital. I have met many of the staff and they are lovely caring people.

We took our son here and it was an amazing experience. The staff diagnosed a condition that had not been treated before despite fifteen years of psychologist and psychiatrist treatments. They prescribed a medication that had him leveled out within a week. Very friendly staff as well.

STEVEN

I BEG WHOEVER READS THIS: STAY AWAY. THIS IS THE WORST PLACE TO PUT YOURSELF INTO. THEY ARE LIARS AND DECEITFUL PEOPLE ONE WILL EVER, EVER, COME ACROSS. GO ANYWHERE ELSE IF YOU ARE STRUGGLING. I BEG YOU. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE CLOSED WITH THERE AWFUL EMPLOYEES. THEY WILL NOT CARE FOR YOU!!!!!

My wife works there and she is awesome and tries to make the stay not as bad as it could be.

This place is horrible. My kid came out in worse shape. We tried to get him out sooner but they threatened to call DCFS if we tried to get him before they deemed him okay, even after our doctor went to help us. At that point, I felt like they were holding him hostage. There were multiple suicide attempts while he was there. They started him on a new medication before telling us. Awful awful awful experience and yet I had to pay them $1000's. I will be thrilled when I find the news that this place has been shut down.

As a current employee of HIghland Ridge, I am disappointed to see that two of my previous co-workers have sought to address their frustration with leaving their employment out on our facility as a whole. If you have a grievance with a particular incident or employee, fabricating generalized statements about illegal and/or unethical activities is juvenile and incredibly unfair to those of us who work hard to provide excellent care to our patients. With that said, I am also a mental health professional and hold my license to work with patients in the highest of honor. My interactions at Highland Ridge Hospital with both employees and patients have been overwhelmingly positive and I am grateful to be a part of an amazing team. If you are considering sending your loved one to Highland Ridge, please know that we have compassionate, competent and engaged staff who know how to help others who are struggling. We choose our jobs because we care about our patients and want to make a difference.

I took a family member to this facility when he needed treatment. I am surprised at other reviews because we had such a great experience at Highland Ridge. I think most people that have any understanding of addiction treatment know that you have to want help first and foremost. Then, it is up to the patient to get out of the treatment program what they need. The staff was professional and knowledgable and always willing to help. The group sessions were very helpful not only to my family member but our entire family as well. Another great part of treatment was the aftercare programs. I would highly recommend Highland Ridge Hospital to anyone looking for treatment in the Salt Lake Area.

Kaila Jackman

I went into the adolescent unit a few months ago. The staff were very calming and eager to help me. We were given adequate time for everything. The groups really helped me, and the one on one time with the psychiatrist and my therapist were both productive and safe. I wasn't pushed to do anything I didn't want to do. I was able to stabilize sufficiently within a week and get home. I would recommend this hospital. If I ever find myself in the same predicament, I know Highland Ridge will be able to help me.

Sabin Ozera

This place will hurt you more than help you. There is nothing to do except rot in front of a TV set or talk to the other unstable inpatients! The nurses don’t care, the doctors don’t care, the “psychiatrist’s” don’t care or even do anything except prescribe, and they charge you MASSIVELY for it!!

Chris Schuller

I did IOP at Highland Ridge and the program saved my life. I recommend for anyone who wants to turn the corner to a better life!

I was very worried about my child being in this facility after reading all the negative reviews. But as it turns out it was a very positive and good experience for both of us. The communication by staff was amazing there was nothing that went on that with my child that I was not aware of and they asked for my permission as well. I spoke with someone from the hospital every day sometimes more than once . I was able to visit everyday and my child was allowed to make phone calls out to me. Everyone we had contact with was very nice , friendly, caring and professional. My child was there 1 week and what a huge difference it has made . Thank you Highland Ridge

Sarah Mansfield

Separate the men and women. Checking on the patients every 15 minutes isn't going to prevent rape. Good education, horrible safety.

Mental Health Professional .

I can attest to my coworkers reviews regarding this treatment facility. In response to John Doe, my concerns about the hospital have nothing to do with me being upset with how I was treated as a staff member; rather it is concern for how the entire hospital is ran and how I saw workers and patients being treated. It should be noted that almost all of the mental health technicians, the head nurse, clinical supervisor, Human Resources director, and ceo all quit within the past 6 months. Like my fellow coworkers, I also observed the unethical practices taking place at highland ridge, and like them I will also support their reviews in concerning patients from attending this hospital. As an employee at highland ridge for one year, I can always say that all of their reviews are completely accurate. It should be added that there were numerous incidents of sexual harassment between employees, degrading comments and an inability to pay attention to the patients, and over admissions to the facility for the purpose of obtaining money. There is a reason why several patients escaped the facility at the exact same time. So as another highland ridge employee, I absolutely advocate on behalf of my other coworkers to NOT send your loved ones to this facility. Even if it is the only available option for hospitalization, do whatever you can to keep your loved one safe until there is space available in another facility. This hospital should not be running.

Naconna Eve

Absolutely disgusting facility. (Just look at the pictures; they have no pictures of the bathrooms because they are nasty.) Staff has awful communication, they don't give medications on time, especially when requested and/or needed badly. They treat patients like inmates; very rude. Would not recommend to ANYONE EVER. Absolutely appalling..

This was one of these worst hospitals I had ever been in. I was admitted about three years ago, yeah it's a long time but I remember everything. There were physical fights on the daily, which weren't dealt with and there were no consequences, except for taking coping skills away. One kid broke his hand when he was in (from punching a wall) and the staff did nothing about it. They never took him to an actual hospital despite his whole hand being swollen and him not be able to move it. I am transgender, and there was another trans patient in at the time. The other kids in liked to say that she passed better than me, and I would never be a real man, which obviously took a toll on my mental health. And what did the staff do? Not a God damned thing. We were told to use our coping skills, and one of mine is music. One of the only things they provided us with. And when I needed to use my coping skills the most, I was told I couldn't. We were told that we couldnt listen to the radio anymore because of the fights, which was not fair to the rest of us. So i turned to shuffling cards, but i got them taken away because they weren't meant for shuffling. They only had one deck of cards and the other kids never let me touch them. The staff was not equipped well enough to take care of all of us. There was group therapy twice a day and the rest of the time we were made to sit in a room and write in a journal. Not to mention that the boys and girls would sleep on the same side, which lead to some sexual problems. Due to the fights I had resorted to hiding under the desk in my room, where no one could see me. During visitations the minute someone's voice raised I ran to the corner and tried to hide due to absolute fear. I only got out because I was self admitted and my parents fought tooth and nail to get me out. It was one of the worse times of my life.

Please don't send your loved ones here. My husband was brought in here by ambulance. Due to his insurance this was the available option. They were so rude. They treated me, his wife like a outsider. I was not allowed to see him. I would talk to him on the phone and he was so confused. Every time I called him I had to go thru several people , put on long holds no one would give me any information on treatment or his conditions or meds. They were very vague. Finally after 3 days a therapist called me but it wasAfter several people calling their facility and threatening them with legal recourse. The therapist said he would call again the next day. He didnt call so I called him around 1 to find out that my husband was going into cardiac arrest due to reactions to meds and had been transported at midnight to a medical hospital. Thank god for the medical hospital who saved him from this place. He was put in ICU and this facility lied and told the admitting hospital that I was notified as soon as he was admitted . When I finally got there to medical facility they told me this and had just got my phone number from my husband to find out why I wasn't there. My life wAs endangered due to no communication, finding out my husband was in ICU hours later.

The bottom line is that when you're an addict and you're engaged in your thinking and acting like an addict, nothing anyone is doing for you to try to help you will be good enough. You will always look for others to blame for your mistakes and behavior. It's an endless vicious cycle and it's the reason you are where you are in life. Until you are ready to wake up and make the changes you need to you'll stay in that cycle. If you're ready to take responsibility then the staff at Highland Ridge are the best I've found. They are educated, patient and caring. The rules they have are the same as anywhere else. They follow the laws and do what is in your best interest. As an addict it is hard to see all the reasons sometimes but the purpose behind it all is for your recovery. Because of the staff at Highland Ridge I am in recovery and out of the vicious cycle I was in. They can help you when you're ready to change. They can save your life if you are ready to be saved.

One staff referred to another staff as a "dumbass" behind there back in front of the whole adolescent unit.

Trevor Morgan

Place never helped me. I made repeated visits to psych wards after this hospital. They did manage to leave me with a large bill. All that did was add to my problems. The staff also was overmedicating most of us and giving the wrong meds to some of us. We (me and other patients) pointed this out. They didn't believe us until we showed a different nurse and proved it. That place is hell. I would not recommend going there.

Albert Stripe

I appreciate everything this hospital did for me in the 28 days I was there on my own dime. The fun things that were forced on me while inpatient: fed 3+ meals a day; a clean dry bed; nurses and techs that actually cared about my wellbeing; appropriate medications to keep me from dying while detoxing from inappropriate amounts of booze and benzos I decide doses on while trying to make it between bottles; varied & meanigful groups to work on MY issues ... Seriously. I highly recommend this hospital for anyone that has any interest in being provided the tools needed to maintain sobriety. I was an inpatient there 3 years ago and with a few exceptions return back weekly to continue aftercare.

It was an experience of mental health hell that shook me to the very bone. I will never go back or refer anybody(even my greatest enemy) to. The staff is highly neglectful, abandoning and condescending. I would rather endure the mental anguish than to use Highland Ridge Asylum Center as an option. They refused me to a patient's rights handbook, even going so far as to me providing them a 'reasonable' explanation as to why I need it. I got two meetings with a 'provider'(one for admittance and the other for discharge), ZERO mental health meetings with a therapist to discuss any mental health concerns, bunches of nurses that it is hit-and-miss if they dispense the right meds with the appropriate doses and a lot of 'techs' that buzzed around like bees forgetting what they were asked to do. As a military vet, I can say that they have ZERO, ZILCH, NADA experience in dealing with combat-related or simple military-related PTSD, night tremors or other types of issues. Please, if you are a vet, know a vet, or work for any vet services, DO NOT use Highland Ridge as an option for mental health treatment.

Recently my daughter stayed at this hospital and was in a very bad way mentally, but thanks to Dr. Kyle Olson she is doing much better and is getting better each day. Kyle showed that he really cares about his patients, he kept my wife and I in the loop with updates and changes; and made sure everyone was comfortable with the treatment plan. Very knowledgeable, personable, down-to-earth doctor with a big heart. Would recommend this hospital to everybody!!!!!!

Graham Carver

I have just got to say that I have been to several treatment centers and Highland Ridge was the best I've seen in a long time. The staff was very attentive to my needs and really showed that they cared. I was well taken care of for the two weeks I was there and would highly recommend Highland Ridge to anyone I know.

As an old staff member that used to work at highland ridge, I had the opportunity to see the ins and outs of how the hospital runs and the interactions with patients. As a professional, I have never worked in an environment as unethical as highland ridge. I would highly recommend not taking your loved ones to this facility. If they are admitted, work to get them transferred to another facility. Staff members are being required to perform jobs they are not legally certified to do. Additionally, patients are being kept in unclean facilities that smell like urine. They are being sedated rather than using non-drug deescalation tactics. There is no positive or scheduled interactions with patients other than groups. Social workers and doctors take days to see their patients. The mental health techs are so overloaded because the hospital is admitting more patients than staff can care for. Highland ridge accepts patients for the money. There is a high turn over rate of staff, with the majority just recently quitting over the pas six months. If there was a way I could shut this facility down, I would. If you need inpatient care, go to UNI, Salt Lake Behavioral Health, or one of the IHC facilities. Stay away from this place.

i saw alot of negative reviews about highalnd ridge hospital , with all my being i have to praise god first for getting me into inpatient treatment there. i will admit that getting a prn in a timely matter is a serious issue that has to be fixed. however overall the experience was AWESOME. i stayed on the psych unit for 2 weeks and everything is exactly where i need it to be. the doctors are caring and understanding. When i meet dr. Faizi i was like o here we go with another doctor who barely speaks english, i was wrong on that he was absolutely the opposite of the sterotype i had in mind.anyway ty to all staff and doctors. im on the right meds forthe first time in 30 years of suffering from mental illness. rock on highland ridge!!!!

It is a place that offers all the tools you need to have a better life. It is a program, and with all programs you have to work it to gain the results you desire. You must do it for yourself and understand that is what it is designed for. The detox was comfortable. The staff ie: Marcie and Sam etc. truly care about what ever situation you might be dealing with. I recommend this palce to all who are tired of being tired.

There are plenty of reasons not to like the place that has confined you to psychiatric treatment against your will, however, then there are the legitimate reasons. I spent 4 days sitting around in group therapies and popping anti-anxieties before I ever saw my personal psych. Everyone could easily over medicate themselves, walk up to the window and tell the nurse you felt anxious and she'd hand you Klonopin, 5 minutes later you could do it again. The place felt like a prison where I was forced to go outside to a small patio so the group leaders could smoke, myself being a non-smoker, because they couldn't leave us inside alone... Also apparently you have a password that allows for only certain people to visit if you've disclosed this. Nice gesture in case its visitors who help put you there. Except I didn't know a password existed, but they told my sister one did, and gave it to her freely, and she told everyone I knew. So much for a password, I was the only one who didn't know it. Not a place I'd recommend to self admitting people for psych or rehab treatment.

I was in the adolescent unit a few months ago and I felt trapped and the system is horrible. I have no idea how this place is still running. The food is horrible, some of the staff are horrible, I got sexually assaulted there, you spend most of the time "journaling" and you get in trouble for talking during a specific hour. I actually felt more suicidal there than I already was. UNI is a much better hospital nobody should be sent to Highland Ridge it's a horrible system... Also the therapy sessions were either rants or games...

The Partial Hospitalization Program is run in a very professional and ethical manner. Sam W. does in depth groups that allow patients to explore their addictions on a personal and very emotional level. We are given the tools and the knowledge that allow us to explore our addictions and come to terms with it. Patients are given the opportunity to grow and begin living life again. It's hard work and takes a lot of time and dedication to successfully complete the program. I would encourage anyone who has an addiction to get help and start to live again. We deserve it. Thank you Sam for all of the hard work you put into this program. I want to thank Stephanie, Ali, and the rest of the Recreational Therapists for the time and hard they put into their program. I enjoyed the hands-on learning experience(s) they provided us with. A special thanks to everyone at Highland Ridge for giving me the opportunity to be able to live again.

Been there twice because insurance would only let me go there. If I am ever in crisis again, I would rather die than go back. Last time I went, they told me I'd only be there for 3 days. They lied to my husband and insurance company and told them if they didn't let me go home,I told them I'd kill myself, which was a blatant lie. I never said any such thing, never alluded to that and didn't feel that way in the first place. They only wanted to be able to make more money off me. Every psychiatrist I saw was rude and when I told them I had bad reactions to several medications they INSISTED I try them again. I spent the subsequent next 8-12 hours twitching and jerking uncontrollably and they rolled their eyes at e and told me I was being uncooperative and difficult on purpose. I realized if I ever wanted to leave I had to act like I was happy there and feeling fine. I saw a therapist once in 8 days. They were rude and disrespectful to other patients there as well. I left that place traumatized and worse off than before. I also have food allergies to gluten, dairy and eggs and they told me I could just eat fruit. I couldn't survive on that and got very ill. It took several days of asking someone to look at my enormously distended abdomen and severe pain I was feeling, to have a doctor examine me and brush me off. I had to eat food I couldn't tolerate, just trying to not starve. I can't remember the female brunette psychiatrist's name but she was by far the most arrogant, cruel and heartless of the people employed there. A few of the techs were nice but had no power to help me. Their "about us" page on their website is a joke, as they talk about how compassionate and caring they are. They are actually full of contempt for their patients and treat us like we are inferior pains in their rear end. If you tell them you've taken a certain drug already and had terrible reactions to it, it angers them and they force it on you anyway. Most of the patients there who had been to the U of U said their program was much better. Several other patients were also lied about as I was, to keep them there longer. We were supposed to have activities and group therapy and it rarely happened. We had to hang around the common room, the only TV in the place and on several occasions were showing horror movies, like the Final Destination movies. But I wasn't allowed to have books that were even slightly scary. I was bored out of my mind and kept there under false pretenses and I can honestly say that it's harmed my mental health and I still get nightmares a year later. This place should be shut down. Oh, one more thing, I waited 6 hours to be admitted, in severe crisis and didn't see a doctor for a few days.

Steph Wilk

Horrible horrible place!! I wouldn't recommend anyone to here!

Kirstee Woodcox

this place isn’t the best place to stick your child in for mental help. they are under staffed and the staff they have sucks. the staff was rude to us and they cried on the spot cause they couldn’t handle the kids. there were 5 suicide attempts while i was there. they gave us the wrong medications and forced us to take it. you don’t do anything but sit around and they have two groups a day for kids to do. they don’t do 1 on 1 therapy which a lot of kids need. they kept me two days longer than i was supposed to be there. they have awful communication with the parents and they are trying to make us pay extra for the two days they weren’t supposed to keep me. plus they sent us mail saying we owe nothing then called us a month later saying we owe lots of money and we don’t then they sent us mail the next day saying we did so this place is pretty crappy. plus while i was there they let too many people be admitted. so many that they had to put some of the kids on a different unit which probably wasn’t the safest or smartest thing to do.

Worst place place I've ever been. Treated like an annoyance by staff, psych patients are all mixed together and there is no order to the schedule. Seriously bad.

My son was admitted after a manic episode because there were no nebe anywhere else. We went to see him the next day and he was so drowsy from sedatives that he couldn't even carry on a conversation. We tried to visit again to days later, he couldn't come down. We tried to visit the next day, he couldn't come down. We tried to call, he couldn't come to the phone. The following day he was admitted to primary children's hospital due to severe dehydration, and the inability to speak, move, or swallow! We were told by primary children's that this hospital gets way too aggressive with their medications, and doesn't know how to treat pediatric patients. Obviously! After my son began to come off the meds, he would convulse uncontrollably at the mere mention of this facility. As he gets better I'm sure we will hear more details. We we're fortunate that he got it after only four days, but it's too bad he had to pay such a price. It has taken him that much time again to recover from their "treatment". Stay away!!!

Jane Doe

Don't understand the real bad reviews saying place is unclean, food is bad, staff awful, on and on. What is the "unsafe" issue about? Unsafe from what? I question if those are real or some other reason these people posted what they did. I don't understand. The facility looked reasonable renovated, is clean from what I saw (what hospital has "filth"? that's just stupid, maybe they expected a 5 star luxury hotel?), patients were overall ok while I was there, and some times really supportive to each other, staff interaction with patients was ok, some nurses & techs better than others, groups were ok, therapist was pretty nice and did meetings and groups, there's another therapist some days and also an art/yoga therapist, and the food isn't bad, I liked it. Salad plus normal cafeteria variety entrees, what is so "unhealthy" it isn't Whole Foods market. It was all ok and staff was nice, hospital does what they are there to do. maybe they just don't make "transfers" and you were asking something they just don't do. So why post a really bad review for that? Place works for a lot of people and a lot of people in there working on themselves making life better.

I was a former employee at Highland Ridge. I left because it was no longer safe for me with such short staffing it caused many issues. I had trained for about 2 days before I was thrown into shifts alone hardly knowing what to do. I cared for the patients but felt so bad because I couldn’t attend to all of their needs because I literally didn’t have time due to short staffing and having to do so many things at once. They had awful communication the doctors had no idea about certain policy changes. Highland ridge is a complete mess and if you need care please do not go here because you will not get what you need. They don’t care about the patients of staff only about the money. They brought back dangerous patients who had attacked staff and when I asked the doctor why he replied they need the money.

David Myers

My son was recently a patient due to substance abuse. I cannot be more impressed with the staff. From the moment we walked in the door we were treated as if we were really cared about. Every aspect of my son's treatment was explained in advance and all of our questions were answered. Kristen was wonderful as were the nursing staff and techs. Although this situation was difficult for our family I felt that we actually had team of people working to help my son. I can't thank the staff enough for all they did and continue to do for Andrew.

Jennifer Miller

Terrible! My 15 year old daughter stayed at this hospital for over a week and she HATED it! The staff were always short handed and rude to the kids and pretty much let them sit around and do whatever they wanted. My daughter was around garbage behaviors and foul language loving on drugs and alcohol. Apparently there are boys and girls on the same unit. Pretty much no therapy was given I basically heard from a therapist once about her discharging and she was demanding to me the OPPOSITE of how a therapist should be. The only reason I’m not giving this place one star is that the doctor was great. Kyle kept me in the loop of my daughter’s treatment talked about all options available for her depression anxiety ptsd and sleeping problems and made sure that she was safe to go home. He is super intelligent and kind and my daughter said he was amazing. If it wasn’t for Dr Kyle this place would be shut down!!!

Robin Whitmore

My 19 year old son was hospitalized at Highland Ridge. They did an amazing job with his intake. Omce they had his guardianship paperwork we received calls back within 24 hours of leaving them a message. They made a huge effort tryimg to ensure he had supports in the community prior to discharge. The only thing that could have been better is having a couple of days more warning of his actual discharge date. I will without hesitation have my son go back there. We appreciate the support they gave us and our son.

Gracie Steele

they were so rude and the food was awful. no one cared about you they just wanted to go home at night. they never took control and they didn't take suicide threats seriously.

April Washburn

Very clean, well-organized facility with caring, competent staff. Highland Ridge ensures patients receive the most current, evidenced-based care and thorough discharge plans.

Jasper Soto

Would rate zero if i could. Don't listen to the fake advertising about this place. All these photos shown on the website are fake! This place looks retched inside. Its awful I was admitted June 7th, 2018-June 12th, 2018. Worst five days of my life. I was admitted for substance abuse/suicide attempt. My first day felt like a week. They kept me locked in a small room with no toilet, no food, no water, and a small flat mattress. They gave me an opportunity to call and I decided to call my girlfriend, I was going through a breakdown begging her to help me get out. They ended up taking away the phone and locked me in the dark, i began to self harm and they did nothing about it. My girlfriend tried getting in contact with my parents to help me get out. All three of them tried and had no success, even my own parents hardly could get any update on me. They forced me to take antipyschotics which sedated me. I hardly could stay awake. They sat me in front of a tv all day, I hated it. I tried so hard to talk to my therapist ( Never saw her once. ) I tried talking to the doctors and guess what! Never saw any of them. I was extremely against taking medication back then. I saw a social work and she told me I wasnt able to leave because of how mentally unstable i am. I became hopeless. I hardly ate, i always gave my food away to the others. I spoke a lot with the staff who took care of us and they informed me they have no training. And that it was really easy to obtain the job. You only need your CNA. At one moment i began having a panic attack and they forced me to face a corner and "breathe." leaving me there alone. The staff allowed bullying. Physical and mental. One night one kid broke another kids ribs. The night before i was scheduled to leave they wouldnt let me call my mom. They wouldn't let me contact anyone. One nurse helped me ( she was extremely nice ) she asked my mom to come get me early in the morning. The moment i stepped outside the building i began crying, i felt free. That place felt like a prison. Highly recommend you avoid this awful place. Its all a scam. Surprised no one has filed a lawsuit yet.

I have a family member currently staying here for an eval. The patient's are promised two indivualized therapy sessions a day, but the majority of the patient's aren't getting that. How can they help people without any one on one time? Don't admit yourself here.

wayne thompson

my daughter was treated there. I would not recomend this place. they do not care about the person after it is time to send them home. didn't give her any time to get a ride, they didn't care if she walked or what in the dark, just need the bed. all about the money!

Gabriel Taylor

It's been some time since I was admitted to this hospital, but out of curiosity looked it up and seeing one boot licking employee trying to lie when patients and other employees were trying to expose this awful hospital got to me. Back when I was there most of the time was spent with techs who had no business being around mentally ill folks (at one point I recall a girl who had been horribly abused by her father admitting to herself she hated him called out by a tech, who had said none of us had any right to say we hated our parents, which was inappropriate as she 1. Was not this girls therapist and had no clue of the situation 2. If your working on a ward dealing with adolescents you must know many have been abused, including by parents) Whilst I was there I had recieve therapy one time in what I believe was a 7 day period (I was frequently sedated with prescription strength benadryl, but I believe that's the time frame my parents stated.) Despite therapy being said to be administered multiple times. When my parents had threatened legal action on the facility, they had discharged me and "lost my file," which if true shows their lack of organization, while in reality is darker in that they simply had thrown me in with the idea of sucking insurance dry and nothing more. Staff was unprofessional, uncaring, and the way the hospital was ran was likely the worst part, because I would imagine they were understaffed. I have seen the comparison of significantly better inpatient hospitals in the area, and suffice to say this one is terrible. If I had a child or friend who needed hospitalization, I would avoid this one like the plague. I was not baker acted in my time there, I admitted myself voluntarily.

As a former employee (that left for good reason) I find it funny that a simple search on Facebook or google shows the positive reviews are just friends of employees. Actually it’s scary. I can attest to what my former coworkers have said about this place. It is so scary. I am also surprised that it remains open. As i continue in the mental health field I can say this place isn’t even close to meeting standards of care. If you see this review, take heed that so many people are speaking out against this “hospital.” It is dangerous. If the hospital you’re at suggests highland ridge, demand to be taken elsewhere. You have rights. This is your loved one’s life on the line. That’s why we speak out. That’s why it’s worth the fight.

If I could give a negative star for this place I would. It is laughable that this faux hospital is clearly writing their own positive reviews. As a long term dual diagnosis health professional and detox professional, as well a a former employee, I have never written a negative review because I was embarrassed to say that I even worked there. I actually leave it off of my resume because I want no association to the place. But when I saw these five star ratings compared to what I know is true, I felt a duty and obligation to my career and the love and care I have for my patients. That hospital has dropped below any sort of expectation one might make entering a mental health facility. There is NO infection control, barely enough staff that are all tired and worn out, and the safety of these vulnerable patients is completely out the window. I am SHOCKED the state has yet to shut this horrific place down. The administration starts at the bottom of the terrible organization. The DON must have been hired for change because she is the epitome of a wolf in sheep's clothing. She clearly has zero experience at doing anything in management and I can't understand how such a cruel, manipulative, and all around bad personality landed her in nursing. She belongs in low level corrupt politics. The amount of staff they have is slim to none and you have agency after agency coming in to supplement the most basic of requirements that need to be in place for the census. And that's only half the time. I can only pray for the patient's who are all in danger while being at this facility, and that the community comes together to get rid of this cursed facility

I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! It may be fine if you are really going to detox, but the e.r. Sent me there simply because they had an open bed. I was being admitted for suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, and depression. I haven't done drugs a day in my life! This is just part of my experience there. She proceeds to lead me through yet another locked door into a really dark scary looking hallway. She shows me to my room which is only a little bigger than my room at home. However it has two, smaller than hospital beds, beds, two shelves, one desk and chair, and the bathroom which is room for a toilet, sink, and a shower barely big enough to stand in. My roommate is sleeping mostly naked twisted up in the blanket. There is what looks to be dried pee on the bathroom floor, a spider web under the freestanding sink, a smell that isn’t antiseptic for sure, and one small window that is completely frosted so that you can’t see out, and it doesn’t allow much light in either. I am left alone in this room. My bed doesn’t smell dirty per-say but it doesn’t smell clean either. The floor is covered in fake wood linoleum vinyl that is dark tones of wood while the walls are painted a light dandelion gross yellow. There are pictures of flowers or things on the walls, but it doesn’t help. There is a day room where there is a water machine, chairs, and a T.V. that’s it. Then there is a smaller room that has a table and three chairs, there are three card games, a puzzle, 5 books, and one board game, monopoly. Outside consists of maybe a 30’x30’ square of concrete surrounded by 9-10 foot chain-link fence that angles in at the top. No grass. On the floor there are both live and dead bugs. This place isn’t clean. I can’t breathe. I’m going to throw up. Get me out of here. I start to shake. The darkest feeling comes over me and I feel completely trapped, abandoned, alone, unloved, hopeless, and worthless. I am panicking worse than when my friend took me to the emergency room. They wouldn't give me my meds, daily or the ones for my panic attack. There wasn't therapy, or really anything to do. No one talked to me, I never saw the dr there on my first day. The staff doesn't care about you at all, they simply want to be paid and go home. This is the worst possible place you can go for anxiety, depression, etc. don't ever go there if you can help it.

I used to work for Highaland Ridge for almost 2 years and I had a very bad experience. Its very unsafe environment, always understaffed, unorganized, CEO and DON don’t really care about their staff or patients. Nurses and techs are overworked and unappreciated. DON is very unprofessional and she doesn’t know what she’s doing. She’s also very mean and doesn’t seem like she would ever help around beside telling people what to do. So glad I left this hospital, I really hope the state would shut it down so soon.

Collins Huish

This facility is absolutely horrible. They are known in the area as "ambulance chasers" and they pay hospitals to receive patients. They do this because the facility is run so badly that no hospital would ever refer a patient there. The staff is unbelievable inconsiderate, rude, and unhelpful. They try to hide behind HIPPA if they make any mistakes themselves. This place is a joke in the medical field, and is hands down the worst facility you could receive "care" at.

Mark Rizzo

Fantastic staff. Not only are the nurses and techs kind but the supervisors take the time to check in on the patients. My son was a patient on their adolescent unit and the director of admissions was patient and explained every part of the admission process to us. Even the CEO came to check on us during our stay. These people made a difficult time for my family hopeful.

Monica Lawlis

Administration is all over the place - no structure, minimal help, and almost non existent communication. Thoroughly disappointment.

Jodi Stover

My child attended the adolescent center. Paper work was lost. Staff communication was terrible. Daily schedule was not adhered to. In fact, children reported coloring for 5 - 6 hours per day in the same room and could not get up to walk around or stretch their legs. We were not contact daily as promised and didn't even get a treatment plan or see the doctor until several complains were made and 6 days into the program. The doctor entered the room and stated she couldn't find my child's file and was going off of memory. Terrible program that is at most a babysitting operation. A large group of parents were extremely unhappy. If you want your child to receive help then go somewhere else. This facility should not be in business.

I work in the mental health field and I have some knowledge of Highland Ridge. I am not now, nor have I ever been, employed at Highland Ridge Hospital. I have been employed at a similar facility in Provo, however. Let me assure you that nothing that Highland Ridge ever does is illegal. Facilities such as Highland Ridge are monitored, scrutinized and audited frequently by multiple governing bodies. I would encourage anyone reading these reviews to pay little attention to any review that is willing to go on here and lie about things. If someone is accusing Highland Ridge of illegal activities, I assure you they are lying! The facilities are clean and modern. It is not luxurious, however neither is any psychiatric hospital luxurious. The staff works hard And cares about their clients. Most of the staff go into this field to help people. I happen to know the director of the substance-abuse and detox unit quite well. She is exceptionally competent and incredibly caring. You will get excellent care at this hospital.

Teri Cherrington

This place is a joke. My child was placed here because other facilities were full. 1. They allowed the kids to keep money because there are accessible vending machines to the kids. There are all sorts of problems that could arise from this. 2. The staff fought in front of the kids. 3. No one ever called me to say that they were adding meds to my child's list or that they were adjusting his meds to outrageous amounts. 4. There was also an admission fee that was not discussed until check out time. Two words: INFORMED CONSENT. Seriously, this place needs to be shut down.

Kiera Hoffman

I was there for about a month because of a 10th suicide attempt and self harm, and they were helpful and made me feel very welcome, the hospital is the one that recommended this place, the staff was nice and so were the people there

Mark Watson

Worst place to do a detox at ever. I was put into the psychiatric wing where everyone is wandering around screeming. After a girl followed me around yelling about rape and i got the office attention to say i am here to detox and don't belong in this area several times i was eventually moved across to detox and told that was an accident oh well. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy. The treatment i went to after had 3 other people who had the same experience. They were also shocked by how poorly ran it was. Pick anywhere but here!!!

Kathryn Levine

I have recently moved to the Salt Lake area and have struggled with depression my entire life. I have been to several hospitals for treatment and Highland Ridge is by far the most professional I have been to. The staff is knowledgeable and caring. Dr. Faizi is wonderful. This is the first time I have had a doctor not immediately try to medicate me. Nurse Tamara is a sweetheart that really takes the time to meet and speak with the patients. I am truly thankful there is a hospital like Highland Ridge in my community.

Mazzy Coburn

Being at this place was one of the hardest things I’ve ever been through. First day being there, zero staff was watching. All the kids did was play Xbox all day. They jacked me up on an insane amount of pills. Super unnecessary ones like 3 different mood stabilizers, lithium (I’m not bipolar), 3 different anxiety meds, 2 antidepressants, and 4 sleeping meds. I was a zombie. My 3rd day, a boy, (another patient), molested me and gave me very disgusting notes, the staff even found one and read it and did nothing. A girl made me do things with her as well. I was tackled and put in the seclusion room for holding a pencil. They gave me a shot to make me fall asleep because I was being “unsafe” my therapist constantly lied to me and my parents. My parents had ZERO clue about what was happening. The staff put people down and pick and choose which kids to be nice to. I got away with going into the nursing station and took scissors, aluminum can, pens, and an energy drink. Because they left the door open and left us unattended. I got away with taking the bags of hand sanitizer and drinking them. This place is a mental hospital you see in the movies. It’s living hell an NO ONE deserves to go through what I did. Highland ridge needs to be shut down.

Valerie Gallo

My time at this hospital was incredible. I feel so lucky. I’m very grateful to everyone there including some patients that were there. The techs were especially helpful. The groups were fun and informative. They got my medication right the first time. My Dr’s really listened and understood. I felt safe and sincerely cared for the whole time I was there. Everyone treated me so well. A couple weeks after I discharged I went back to donate some puzzles. I wanted to give a little something back. They saved my life.

Erica Labrum

When we would call in to see how she was doing they would just give a shot answer. When we tryed to talk to her they would always tell us she dont want to talk but then when we went in would ask us why we never call her. They didnt watch the kids every good she would come and visit and tell us how They boys always come amd wake her up and when we called to have her moved she was just put right back with the boys (its the co-ed unit) when we went to pick her up they lost a brush (brand new said she couldn't have it) and a backpack that i took cloths in. Even called in to cheek about coming to visit and the nurse starting telling me that we did come visit her today she had no clue what she was talling about. Worst place i have been to.

Erica Glenn

I went because I was feeling very depressed and wanted to die. I was brought in in the wee hours of the morning and asked some quick questions by a psychiatrist. My first night I had a roommate that continually talked to herself as it was the only bed that was open. No surprise there. I ended up being given a lot of medication that had drowsiness as a side effect. One of their complaints about me was I always slept. Really??? I also found out they thought I was a real b**tch. I hardly remember talking to anybody. I barely ate, so my blood pressure dropped. LOW. As in, I stood up and I dropped to my butt. I was shaking so much a piece of chicken I tried to eat went flying. They did me no good whatsoever. When I stayed at my parents' home afterwards, I was up all night, writing and writing and came off manic. Oh...and I was talking to myself. Did the cycle begin again? Now 9 years later, I'm treated by somebody else and am infinitely more put together. And I'm not talking to myself. I only felt this bunch was in it for the money and didn't care about my well-being.

Trev Rex

This was perhaps one of the worst experiences of my life. The staff acts as though you don't even exist. You frequently overhear nursing and therapy staff talking trash on the patients in the nurses station (do they not get that everyone can still hear them????). The intake process is longer than an ER wait (in other words, don't expect that you will be seen and brought back any sooner than two hours, on average, no matter how much psychological discomfort you are in). The CEO did come back to speak with me and address one of my concerns at one point, but you could tell that he didn't gives a rats butt about what my concerns really were. He smiled and walked away and left me feeling further invalidated--- and never followed-up. Therapy groups that they claimed would be ran, rarely were... And can I mention that you are lucky if you ever get to meet with a therapist? After being there for quite sometime, I still had no idea who my therapist or med doc was. This was a waste! I could have taken my money and went on a vacation to Europe for all of the money I spent on this- and would have had much better results in reducing my depression. Bottom line: if you care about yourself or a loved one- don't go to Highland Ridge. (P.S. They make you rate the quality of care, with the least rating you can give as being: "poor-fair"... There should be something lower than that to rate places like Highland...).

Peter Jorgensen

The staff is nice, but uncooperative. Family member was there for psychiatric care and wanted to be transferred to another facility for treatment because they didn't feel safe. I was flat out told no despite beds being available and the other facility willing to take them for treatment. Do not send anyone you love here, under any circumstances.

Tina Tilt

Bethony Jorgensen

Awful place. Doctor Connor has an ego problem that completely clouds his judgement and everyone there is afraid to question him. I felt unsafe the entire time but staff was unwilling to do anything (even when we had everything arranged) to get me to a safe facility. Food was terrible and unhealthy. Facility was unclean. Don't go here!

Alayna Carter

This facility was recommended based on my family member's insurance. I called to discuss admissions & treatment, knowing that at this time an inpatient care center is the only viable option and having already spoken to other facilities. The "caring" admissions worker said that, despite claims on their website, they would offer no inpatient services... to an IV user with mental health issues exsisting prior to drug use (& blamed the "healing" claim on the marketing department) unless I brought my family member in along with $4800.00. She further stated that outpatient services MIGHT be an option, provided the patient could prove to be detoxed fully prior to seeking care. ???? Policy or not, she could have handled an already difficult conversation with some professionalism. I guess the only positive is that I experienced the lack of compassion before subjecting an already ill person to it, considering they "welcome" walk-ins.

Anna Houston

This facility is the worst I have ever seen, disrespectful and dehumanizing to the patients, treating them as if they are in a jail, staff obviously "hate thier job", saddly its one of the few places that take Tricare, it is my mission to make sure no military past or present ever has to experience what I've seen.

Clay Wight

This hospital is understaffed below state minimums. Visitors only allowed to visit on certain days. Then changed hour before your family shows up. Watched a client eat food that was two days old due a meal that wasn't saved for him. Client rooms are not cleaned all weekend.

Tyson Roberts

Absolutely amazing facility I highly recommend, had a childthrough the psych ward after him abusing me and it really helped turn him around for the better!

Austen Kincaid

The experience was so nice. The staff made the process so easy. My child went through the adolescence program and it made a world of difference. Amazing facility and staff.

Jodi Bowls

I work in the behavioral health field. I have sent several clients to Highland Ridge and I’m really grateful for the service they provided. Alex Koch has been wonderful to work with. Her and the amazing team at Highland Ridge dedication and willingness to be available to those who need it is second to none!

jpayner88

Great facility to go to, enjoy all the people and staff that work there. Jp

Scotty Robinson

I would not recommend this place at all. They put patients in there and then after a week set them free to the out side world without setting up help first. So If you have a violent person with mental health issues they will keep them for a week then set them free without setting up another doctor for them to meet with. They are just another government agency collecting money and not helping at all. Ther person we were trying to help only got worse being in this place. If i was able to give them a 0 star i would. The doctor told us they would not let the person out until they have help set up for him on the out side. He was lying to us!!!! Then out of the blue we get a call to come pick him up he decided he didn't wont to be there any more. What a joke.

Rebecca Yockey

I don’t know much about the drug rehab, but for teens with depression/anxiety, they are not very effective, don’t communicate with parents very well, not organized. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Melissa Christiansen

I admitted myself into Highland Ridge in their outpatient program. I felt lost and out of control. Through their outpatient program I learned coping skills and ways to live my life with my problems instead of against them. I would go back if I ever needed to. I loved it and it opened me up to other people.

As a former employee who continues to work in a similar setting, I can attest to the review recently posted by another employee. When I first started at Highland Ridge I knew of the reputation they had, but I was looking to try something new and gave it a shot. Things were good for about 6 months, staffing was full, and people really seemed to care about the patients. And then things changed. Administration had some major changes, and the care of patients significantly decreased. Patients were being admitted without proper staffing to care for them, budgets were slashed leading to even more of a decrease in quality of care, patients had nothing to do for most of the day - they were basically being warehoused, and the already high burden on staff each day increased. The hospital became incredibly unsafe. Staff started to drop like flies, but administration continued to admit with no concern of the safety of staff or patients. I was fortunate to get out and onto better things before it declined more, but in leaving I learned how awful things really were at Highland Ridge. Patients are kept illegally after involuntary holds (which only last 24 hours), agencies and families are contacted without proper releases, staff are fulfilling roles not appropriate for their expertise/license/or professional level, patients with specific safety concerns are not set up with proper precautions due to unavailability of staff and unwillingness by administration to provide precautions, physical and chemical restraints are used as a first line of defense instead of common deescalation techniques they are trained on when hired, and patients are referred to aftercare by marketers that have special (and possibly monetary) interests instead of acknowledging the will and best interest of the patients. Patients may have one or two groups a day, no individual therapy as promised on their website, and are mostly left to sleep or sit in front of the TV. The medical director is great, but overwhelmed, and most staff just don’t care. Please, please, please send your loved ones elsewhere, as this place is a slow sinking ship.

cyclops137 .

I went through the PHP or Partially Hospitalized Program and my experience was quite good. There was a friendly and fun atmosphere in class. I liked the teacher of my class, the rec therapy teachers and all the other staff members that I worked with. I also thought most of the lunches were good. I feel confident that I can face the world after this program, which I finished two days ago, and sustain long term sobriety.

Highland Ridge has some amazing staff and they truly care about your well being. The food is great! I know that the staff are always willing to listen and help as best as they can. This is a great resource for anyone needing Detox or inpatient services. Their day program for adults is awesome as well as their after school program for kids. Great Job Highland Ridge!!!!

Joey Larsen

if I could give this place 10 stars i would - Kyle Olson is da MAN!!!! This guy knows his stuff, super friendly, humble and down to earth man, and strives to make his patients better. My daughter was placed at Highland Ridge with awful depression - tons of doctors have worked on her in the past year and nothing has worked. Kyle sat down with my daughter and listened to all her concerns, then called me and got my side of the story and then he formulated a plan that he only wanted to do if we agreed it was best. He took the time to diagnose her with the right problems and then give guidance for short and long term plans. Now my daughter is discharged, seeing her therapists and doctors regularly, staying on her medication that Kyle prescribed and is doing very very well! I can’t speak for everyone else on here but Kyle is by far the best and I’d send any of my kids his way. He wants to help people, he wants them to succeed, and most of all he actually LISTENS TO US. I’d refer anybody with troubled kids over to Kyle he will put in his effort to work his magic and turn lives around. A+++!!!!

Charisse B

Horrible communication by staff. Only ever liked 1 Dr. Stuck only being able to use this one hospital due to where I live.... horiable. When trying to talk to my children phones are always an issue either down or static ridden. Or even posted or spoken times to speak to my children never kept. Treated like a liar by staff, when asking about my child they repeat their fine instead of answering my question about there health and well being. So much should change.

Mister Shadows

Considering my sister came out worse than when she entered, this gives you a pretty good idea of what this place is like.

Steve Cosper

Our family has had many difficult decisions for the care of our 92 year old father who has dementia. It's been a roller coaster to say the least. He has gone from home to assisted living to memory care in a very short period of time. This was based on his behavior and the circumstances which affect him. We sent him to Highland Ridge in order to stabilize his medications and his behavior which had us very worried. Highland Ridge staff, including Dr. Faizi and Heather worked diligently with the family and with our father for treatment and medications. The result was nothing short of a miracle. Our father is back at the memory care center and is doing fabulously. Dr. Faizi is a miracle worker. Heather is one of the most caring individuals we have ever encountered in a field that is full of caring people. Our thanks and admiration to Highland Ridge, Dr. Faizi, and Heather.

Dylan Rose

I was a patient here on the adolescent unit. And this place is horrific. My dad had to pull me out of the program. When they refused to let me out he called the police. This place is crazy. There is absolutely ZERO supervision. I watched patients touch each other in places they shouldn’t. Patients would go into each others rooms and it was an absolute train wreck!!! The staff did not care about what was going on at all!! I met with the doctor ONCE for two mins tops. I saw a staff provoke a patient when they were having a hard time. It was an absolute nightmare. PARENTS PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE.

Anonymous Person

Here’s some insight to anybody & everybody who’s either thinking of working here OR bringing anyone they love or even like here. DONT DO IT!!! I know first hand how staff is treated and how patients are treated by upper management (aka) administration, the floor staff (BHT, CNA & Nurses etc.) have to deal with EVERYTHING in that place, more techs than anything. They’re greatly understaffed, under appreciated & under paid by upper management. In the past couple of months at least 20 employees have quit due to the reasons above and majority have been working there for 1year+, and a lot of new hires never make it past orientation. Management is so desperate to hire just anybody since all the good ones are either leaving or already gone, so if you’re looking for a job apply here, NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED. The CEO shows little to no emotion, she’s the type who likes to cover water leaks with tape & crosses her fingers in hopes it’ll work. She’s been CEO not even a year & pretty much everyone hates her, they just don’t say it to her face. The patients that come in & out of there have no clue who she is since she’s NEVER on the units. The DON is, like a previous reviewer said, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. She expects employees to pick up shifts, come in early & stay late quite often but rarely does it herself. Beware of that fake smile & blue eyes! The HR director has no idea what she’s doing! She purposely ignores calls from employees, doesn’t know jack about benefits or anything for that matter. You’d be more lucky running into her at a grocery store than at the actual facility. She doesn’t return calls or messages for weeks, so I’m really not sure what her job duties are since she doesn’t do them. The techs who basically run that hospital are the heart of this facility, they try their best to help the patients but management doesn’t care about that, they only care about money. I understand that not every mental facility is great, but these people don’t even try, they think taping up banners saying “Good Job Team” & “Thank You For Your Dedication” is gonna make their employees stay? Treat them better, give them the raises you’ve promised for months & maybe the turn around rate wouldn’t be so high.

This is the single WORST mental hospital I have ever dealt with and my child has been in every mental hospital in the state Utah. The facility is often under staffed and 90% of the staff are rude and ill-tempered. My child got worse at this facility and I had to check my child out AMA and take them to another hospital and not only was I verbally abused by the staff they then called DCFS on me for taking my child out AMA because they couldn't help my kid and over medicated my kid. If i could give them a negitive 5 I would. If you need or want help go to reputable hospital for help!!!!

Sir Gimpalot

Truly awful hospital and doctors. I was referred here by my employers EAP when I was stressed with some issues. My intent was to receive an outpatient referral to receive help with these issues. However when questioning me, they claimed they felt I was a suicide risk when they asked if I ever thought about it and responded with a clearly sarcastic answer and followed up with I would never harm myself. I also told them I could not afford the stay even after insurance. They then forced me to stay for 4 days even if I wanted to refuse treatment. I did not see an actual doctor until at least day 2 or 3. When I did see the doctor, he implied he knew my intentions better than I did. (I believe it was doctor Connor, who others have also had disdain for) Once released, I did not receive my bill for a minimum of 3 months. Which I immediately disputed with their billing team. Was offered a form to seek aid/arrangements and told them I was held against my wishes. I provided their requested information, and filled out their very unprofessional form that looks like it was written up in 5 minutes in MS Word to outline my expenses. They then mixed up the definition of my gross pay and net pay. Thinking my Gross was what was available after my expenses, ignored my taxes, etc. and insisted I could afford it when I was clearly in the negatives. I was then advised to pay anything I could without fail to show I was making an effort. Just to hopefully get this off my back, I started sending small payments after cutting other things out of my budget. Which they had no problem cashing This was most recently followed up 3 months later that my debt was sent to collections. Which is now affecting my credit rating even more. I am now seeking legal council and possibly having to file bankruptcy due to this awful company. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB as well.

Karen Salazar

Some of the staff really cared but some didn’t. I watched one of my techs fight with my roommate and call her psycho and a b****, she was kind to me but I didn’t like how unfair she was to other patients. I didn’t like watching how a lot of other patients were treated most of the time. My biggest issue was that another patient would harass me and I told the staff over and over again but somehow he would still find time to come to my room and try to come inside and it was unsettling knowing I tried making it stop by reporting it and I had to tell his personal therapist for anything to happen. Some of the staff really helped me feel safe but some didn’t at all. So I appreciate those who helped me keep a distance from this person. I have to now get EMDR therapy because of my experience there, it’s just frustrating that I have to get treated for having PTSD that was caused from a place that was supposed to help me.

For those who are not familiar with teen suicidal thoughts and the severe emotions that affect the entire family, it might be difficult to get across how grateful our entire family is for Highland Ridge and their Adolescent & Teen Treatment program. We had struggled for what seemed to be a lifetime, not knowing where we were heading or where exactly we had been. So many different issues along with so many lives torn apart. Highland Ridge handled each and every one of us with compassion and understanding and changed the lives of not only our sweet, young troubled soul but all of the lives who never gave up the fight. We are on a new road with the help of the staff at Highland Ridge. They showed us hope, they taught us how to fight fair and they gave us DIGNITY! Thank you Highland Ridge!

Rodney Washburn

If you love your child, please don't take them to this place. I would give a 0 star if I could. My child came home with severe PTSD from this place. We admitted our 16 year old for Depression, Anxiety and Suicide. This was the only place available in all of Utah, and now I know why. I begged the ER to keep him til the next day and try something else but they wouldn't. After reading all the reviews I had major anxiety putting him in this place, but I was scared to take him home. They let patients call anyone they want, my son received phone calls from a patient the day he got discharged....WTH? This patient who called my son was somehow able to bring vaping stuff into the facility which he decided to share with my son. Also, the food was aweful so he didn't eat for 6 days . They lock the doors so the kids can't go into their room all day. I was never able to go and see his room or where he spent all his time. He did not get one on one therapy as was stated in their pamphlet. I brought him hygiene stuff like toothbrush and deodorant which he never got. I had to bring this to him because he didn't get it there and it was Day 3 at that time They put him on anti psychotics which made him more depressed and anxious. He had a few break downs where he would sit in the corner and either cry or laugh because he could not believe that this was his life, and no one ever checked on him or tried to figure out what the matter was. It was really hard to get anyone to return my phone calls when I had questions. Most of the time I didn't get a call back. The front desk staff was not very nice, especially one of the male workers. He is now in another facility 2 days after being released from Highland Ridge and this place is 1000 times better. Please don't cause your hurt children any more trauma and take them home if there is no where else to go.

This place is a blessing. I have never experienced anyone in crisis until my daughter was diagnosed with schizophrenia after her 22nd birthday. It was a terrifying experience. My husband and I didn't know what to do. The police had to bring my daughter to receive treatment. From the moment we stepped foot in the hospital I felt relieved. The staff quickly and gently helped my daughter relax the whole while updating myself and my husband of her condition. Not only were the counselors engaging in their treatment but the process in receiving out patient therapy was explained in detail. We still have a long way to go but I am beyond grateful we have a resource like this hospital in my community.

This place helped me greatly with my addiction, and couldn't be happier with my self and the results I have had.

I suspect many of the negative reviews are not regarding elderly dementia patients. We are so pleased with the respect and care that was given to our 92 year old father at Highland Ridge. Dr Faizi was able to adjust his medications and in 10 days he was able to return to his previous facility. It was an amazing, positive change. Thank you to the staff and doctor at Highland Ridge.

I can only speak to what I observed. This took place on Sept.8, 2015. I live in Massachusetts and my 19 year old daughter lives in the Salt Lake City area of Utah. She has been trying to make a new life for herself after many failed attempts at staying clean from drugs. She recently relapsed after what I believe to have been 300 days and was homeless for about 3 weeks. I was struggling to get her to go to detox/rehab for about a week since finding all of this out. I finally convinced her to go to The Highland Ridge Hospital, a place she chose, on that Tuesday evening. She arrived at 9 pm after many starts and stops throughout that day. When she arrived she was clearly strung out and obviously struggling with her addiction. They told her she would have to leave because they did not have an administrator available to run her insurance. She has very good insurance and that was not going to be a problem. I then got her a room at a nearby motel for the night and she was going back in the morning. Well guess what? She never went back and she is on the streets as I am writing this. My question to you if you are considering this place is, WHAT KIND OF HOSPITAL TURNS AWAY SOMEONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHO IS CLEARLY IN NEED OF MEDICAL ASSISTANCE??? Answer? NOT ANY KIND YOU WOULD EVER WANT TO GO TO!!! Go someplace else. I gave it one star because you have to do at least that to publish this. Update: Sept 16, 2015 Still on the street.

Trusted facility for those struggling and in need of detox and stabilization.

My daughter's stay was extended by 4 days due to what her therapist told me was a "Lexapro concern". She was not aware what the concern was and I was confused because she was not prescribed this medication. I called and spoke to her nurse who told me they would have to have someone call me back. No one returned my call. After speaking to my daughter I discovered that she was given the wrong medication. When she brought this to the nurse's attention she was told, "well you can refuse it". My daughter did not want to get into trouble so she took the medication. I have since spoken to the Patient Advocate who says she did an "extensive investigation" and determined there is nothing to substantiate what I had told her, but that they are having a refresher training on medication dispensing for all of their nurses. Something is not adding up here... I have spoken to an attorney and plan to take further action. I DO NOT recommend anyone go to this hospital.

It was the worst experience if my life. I have never been so traumatized or desperate in my whole life

My sister stayed here and had a terrible experience with the staff. Rude and unprofessional, they don’t understand the term sympathy. While my sister was having an anxiety attack, another kid there was trying to help her and a staff member sneered said to my sister “why would you want to be friends with someone who wants to kill himself?” Awful, awful.

I personally have been there. The staff was very unprofessional. Had many incidents where threats were made to not feed us. I was 16.

Just finished Detox. Had a great experience I don't know if things have changed since previous reviews but the place was spotless. I swear they never quit cleaning my room. The nurses and staff were awesome. Would have liked a little better communication with the doctor daily as he seemed in a hurry but he did take plenty of time when it mattered most. The food was better than I expected definitely not an Olive Garden but as good as can be expected in a cafeteria. The cook was very thoughtful and if you didn't like a particuler meal would have something different ready just for you. Always sent us away with extra cake or cookies for an evening snack.

My daughter was brought in around midnight on a Saturday. I called Sunday, Monday and Tuesday morning and never got a call back. The phones are rarely actually answered and when they are, the person on the other end acts like they have no idea half the time. We attended a family session finally (I don't know if they would have ever called me) with the therapist, and he was nice enough but beyond his scope in this setting. There were no time lines, plans, schedules. ..nothing. The doctor stopped by the session, which she was suppose to be a part of, and literally acted like she was annoyed that she even had to be there. Any interaction with her, phone or in person, I thought she was falling asleep or extremely uninterested in the conversation. I requested a transfer and was told 'we just don't do that'. Which, fyi, was a blatant lie. Then once the transfer was facilitated, the doctor said she sent the paperwork many times but never actually did. She only admitted to basically lying after I told her I had talked to the other facility. I have no idea how this place is still operating, I feel sorry for any kids that go here.

My daughter came out of Highland Ridge with a new set of issues. I am sad to say that I would not recommend Highland Ridge to anyone. You do not get calls back... No one gives you update. I feel like I am always digging for information. This place SUCKS!!!!

Well they recommend 25 mg of Zoloft before any diagnosis . After agree to that with the nurses assurance that that dose was so minor it wouldn't effect anything , they upped my sons dose to 50 mg without even contacting me . I immediately pulled my son out of the facility , the Dr. denied the accusation and then relized she was reading the charts wrong .. I was amazed .. Angry.. And worried for the other children still in there care

The thing about rehab is you get out of it what you put into it. Some of the best, strongest, and most loving people I've ever known I met at highland ridge.

I was a Parent of an addicted child who was admitted to the impatient program at Highland Ridge. She completed the program and changed her living environment by moving to a different state and continued to see a psychiatrist for follow up counseling. Hyland Ridge changed her life by giving her the clarity we all take for granted. My daughter after 9 months competing the impatient program found a scholarship to return to college, returned home, successful complete her degree with straight A's, while working part time. She was named Employee of the Year at her Job, and now pursuing a medical degree to help those in need. The staff a Highland Ridge treated my daughter with dignity and her counselor was top notch. The administration handled our desperate situation with care and gave me the peace of mind a parent needs when dealing with an addicted love one. I would recommend this facility and program to all family and friends who a have love one with an addiction. Thank you Highland!

I regret letting my son be transferred from the ER to this facility. Now that I understand a little of the broken mental heathcare system, the good facililties typically don't have available beds, so people are transferred here or to other for-profit enterprises. Highland Ridge refused to transfer him to another facility that may (would) have offered a complete treatment plan - despite several requests from him (the intake person was "too busy" to take care of it and kept throwing obstacles in the way. Therapists were always changing. Group "therapy" was a discussion/explanation of guidelines there and was repeated so patients there for more than 2-3 days gained no benefit from this supposed therapy. My son suffered through weeks of hell here and was released in almost the same condition (suicidal thoughts) as when he entered. I strongly don't recommend.

Did not like the fact that doors had to be ajar, or best was open, with a co-ed facility. They were pushing anxiety meds like crazy, I kept declining it and got in trouble with the weekend staff. Drug rehab on the other side was a joke, people there trying to get more and more pain meds. Same people laying on the couches, drooling because they took advantage of the meds. However I would give it a 5 because of what I learned about my mental illness, and I went to every single class available while I was there. Make it a woman's and men's in separate halls and I'll rate it higher.

Thanks for taking great care of my wife. She said everyone was real nice and that she learned a lot about how to cope with her condition.
