I was a voluntary admit for a mental breakdown in 1997 to this hospital. Most of the staff were redneck hicks who were homophobic bullies. One time in our day room I changed the TV channel from a boring football game which only the staff was watching to a program we the patients were wanting to watch. I told the staff that the TV was for us patients to use and not for their entertainment; I thought they were about to mug me. Any horror stories about this place I can believe and should be investigated.

I called for some advice after patient released & the RN Denise was very (RUDE) said she was new as of 1 hour or 2 ago has no idea didnt know anything patient was released several hours ago & she shouldve gotten some report I do nursing I know for a fact they just dont throw a new nurse on the floor without a report especially a report every shift does report before shift starts at any hospital whether it's a psychiatric hospital or a regular hospital or a nursing home etc. I just asked a simple question I never had anyone else from there act like she did!!!...... everyone else have been great.... she needs a lecture on how she treats families to patients especially when they are very nice!!!..... i mean a simple "let me take a message and I'll make sure they get it to call you back" or I'm sorry I'm not sure?! Or something nice but she was a total rude person that needs help herself.

If you need assistance, don't speak with Janet the switch board supervisor to whom your phone call will be directed to when you call the main number. She is curt, rude, and unwilling to problem solve via telephone when you ask her what department would best answer your question. Poor customer service skills, sadly.

North Texas State Hospital Wichita Falls TX is a State run hospital. It is used by several University's as teaching facilities to follow standard protocols by interns and similar trainees. The hospital is not strictly for patients to get better due to limitations compared to private facilities and because it is supported by the state to teach occupational protocols. SOME PEOPLE ARE SPECIFICALLY USED FOR THE PURPOSE OF TEACHING PROTOCOLS. Some private hospitals have more trained professionals able to provide help to patients. The exact same help is not necessarily used by the state hospital. Many poor, homeless and people considered violent come to the state hospital. Sadly sometimes false statements are given about mentally ill homeless people forcing them into the state hospital. There are several other issues regarding state hospitals that can be independently researched. It is idealistic to believe all state employees care about all the patients and unrealistic. SUPPORT INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS FOR THE MENTALLY ILL AND REACH OUT TO LOVED ONES, FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO BE A POSITIVE SUPPORT SYSTEM TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF DISENFRANCHISED. LAWS SHOULD BE PASSED TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF THE MENTALLY ILL. IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE. Without lots of money the courts and attorneys are not always interested in the welfare of poor homeless mentally ill people. New laws to protect the disenfranchised can make a difference. DON'T WAIT START TODAY.

This place is just horrible. When I was there (I think 2005/2006?) the place was so overcrowded there wasn’t enough places for people to sit in the day room. And when we had classes people were sitting in the floor. I had another patient steal my clothes and the staff refused to acknowledge she was wearing my clothes. The people that end up here are severe mental illness cases. I feel like I wasn’t supposed to be there, but when you have no insurance this is where you end up. If you are needing to find help, please explore your options if possible. I went in “sick” and left “sick”. There has to be another state hospital better than this one.

This is Honest and Serious announcement , if you find yourself dealing with this Hospital means you know that you have very very bad luck, try to get transfer or if you have little more money just go ahead and find another place, cause you are wasting your time and money...Please Please Avoid that Place..I hope this help some stupid people like me..
