REVIEWS OF Brent Turnipseed, M.D. IN Texas

Susana Hart

After being referred to Dr. Turnipseed’s practice, I called to inquire about his availability and was shocked by his secretary’s abrasive and rude attitude. All of my questions were snappily answered and after the little information I was provided, I thanked her. She responded by saying “uh hu”, as if annoyed, and hung up immediately. While I am unsure of Dr. Turnipseed’s level of professionalism and expertise, I will unfortunately not find out due to his staffs rude behavior.

Dr. Turnipseed is truly my opinion the best Psychiatrist. He patience, good listener, got his full attention and takes his time with you. Not on the computer or sitting at his desk. He sit right across from you and he give you his full attention. If need to get in Touch with Dr. Turnipseed he has an online portal it's very easy to communicate with him. Don't wait long no more then 5 mins maybe less then that. Since I moved from massachusetts to Texas I been through quiet a few Psychiatrist and then thanks to my therapist I finally found Dr. Turnipseed. I highly recommend him and I feel his front staff has become better and even if there a little rude it's worth it because mainly deal with Dr. Turnipseed and when you have your first meeting with him ask him questions and he'll answer them.

Dr.Turnipseed is always prompt, kind and knows what he’s doing. He actually cares about my health. His office is always willing to answer my questions, and made sure I always knew what they were doing step by step. Dr.T worked hard to calm my anxieties and then took plenty of time to allow me to relax and decompress instead of rushing me out the door. My Meds are just right, and I know if that changes he will work hard to get me back to ME!

They discharged me from the practice and I am not allowed to see any provider or therapist there. Here is what happened, So first appointment the nurse practitioner left for an extremely long time- I get a call that my dog got out and is going to get killed or lost. I couldn't find anyone to tell that I need to leave or reschedule. So if you are seeking rational understanding human people- not the place.

Spoke to receptionist, before she asked what my son's issues were, I informed her that he has a mild form of Asperger's, but that is not what he needs to be seen for. Immediately before even asking about why he needed to be seen, she was hurriedly referring me to someone else, simply because I mentioned he had Asperger's. I explained to her that his depression pertains to a situation in his life. NOT his asperger's. So, basically this office discriminates against people with autism or asperger's. She didn't want to hear another word after she heard Asperger's.

Dr. Turnipseed has been the most amazing Dr. I've had and it took me a long time to find him. He's very flexible and understanding and has truly been there for me and my family. He truly carted and always listens to what I have to say which is important to me. I won't ever go anywhere else!!! <3

They don't care about patients.

Dr. Turnipseed is wonderful! He is very attentive, punctual for appointments, answers his "valant messages" promptly, always tries to help out with finances on medicines not covered by insurance, love his "new" office and staff, and has helped me so much these past few years. Wish I had found him years ago - but thankful for him now! In fact, I have moved from Austin and continue to drive from out of town to meet with him!

The office will never respond to your call - do not waste your time! Was told Meredith (scheduling coordinator) would reach out by the end of the business day today and that was after three weeks of their office not responding to calls or voicemails left. This was a sad experience and I really hope someone else that is reaching out in need finds another office because this one doesn't seem to care.

I have been a patient of Dr. Turnipseed’s for almost 6 years. I have nothing but extremely positive feedback about the experience. I have a chronic mental illness and have had some really hard times- Dr. T has always been there patiently working on a solution together with me. I have been to many psychiatrists and have been on multiple medications, I also know a lot about my psychiatric condition—so I am an educated consumer. I have always been satisfied with the care at Roots. Dr. Turnipseed and his PA Jennifer Dawson will work diligently with you to help you feel better. I am now doing Ketamine therapy and this has lifted my mood and my quality of life. The process has been straightforward and I always feel safe and well cared for. Additionally—-It’s very easy to communicate with your provider through the online portal— a huge plus if you have needs between appointments. Dr. Turnipseed will treat you like the complex person you are, you won’t find one-size fits all care at Roots. He will not make you feel like a sick or crazy person and will not make you feel like a burden for needing help. Can’t say enough good things about my experience!

I have been working with Dr. Turnipseed at Roots Behavioral Health for about 3 years now. During this time I lost my ability to work for a living, my Mother to Cancer, and my husband is diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer, undergoing his 2nd round of Chemo. It has been a very rough time and Dr. T. has been there for me every step of the way. His front office staff is extremely polite and always willing to go that extra mile when needed. And the office is growing so fast, they are definitely ahead of their time in Austin for Psychiatric care. I do recommend Dr. Turnipseed and Roots Behavioral Health to my friends and would to you as well. I found both of them to be extremely helpful.

I would say that Dr. Turnipseed is not willing to work with people who are clearly wanting help due to cognitive dysfunction. My son was released from care because he missed a couple of apt.'s, and forgot to get his blood work done. Having severe ADD, there is no discussion of an improvement plan. Rather than work with ongoing issues that could help, it is far easier to just release a patient. Good patient care? I think not.

Root Behavioral Health does not want to help you. I had to miss my first appointment due to an emergency and they wouldn’t let me reschedule ever. They don’t really seem to care about helping people with a policy like that. And they don’t tell you about the policy beforehand either. After you’ve spent over an hour getting your entire history absolutely perfect in their online system first. You can’t make an appointment until you do. They’re clear about that. But they definitely do not tell you that if you have to miss your appointment you are BANNED! Ridiculous policy. It was literally my first appointment. Roots, you should really tell people things like that but it won’t matter if you were like me and had a completely unavoidable situation. But definitely make sure you don’t get sick or get in a car accident or your car doesn’t start or anything. Oh and you’ll probably have to go back to your doctor and get a new referral for a new place and fill out the same paperwork again. I’m so glad the psychological industry is really trying to help people that want to help themselves. I’m sure some other professionals out there are helpful. But Roots’s Behavioral Health IS NOT HELPFUL.
