One star is too many. So, I was treated by Dr. Steven Nyquist and whoever his PA was at any given time, from around 2008 to 2017. I lost my prescriptions once, including one for xanax. Whenever I called the office to discuss this, I was never allowed to speak with the Dr. or his PA. The battle ax at the front desk was pretty hateful and dismissive, and told me they would not re-write the prescription for xanax. I expressed my concern over withdrawals, and asked to speak to a professional for guidance. I was advised to go to the emergency room if there was a problem. So, I set out to wean myself off of xanax by myself. It was a wretched experience. It took about 2 month before I could function at work or otherwise. However, the worst of my withdrawal symptoms continued for 4 more months. At one point, my hearing was almost gone, my back, neck, and jaws were in excruciating pain. Later, I found out I had developed a bad case of temporomandibular joint disorder. I had to attend 4 months of physical rehab, trigger point injections, acupuncture, and whatever else I could think of, besides narcotic painkillers, which I will not take.
In November of 2017, the front desk person called to set an appointment for a few days later. On the morning of the appointment, she left a voicemail, cancelling the appointment.
I wound up in the emergency room, as Dr. Nyquist's staff had advised. The doctor at St. Thomas emergency room contacted Dr. Nyquist's office, and was told that they had no idea of me having any problem, and that I had not appeared for that cancelled appointment.
It has taken me 2 and 1/2 years to cope with and overcome the withdrawal symptoms. My TMJ issues have not really improved after thousands of dollars in medical and dental bills. My jaw is now misaligned, and my teeth are mysteriously shifting from their original positions. It is very difficult to even completely close my mouth and hold my bottom and top teeth together, even for 3-4 seconds. My back, neck and right shoulder, and face hurt constantly. I never had these symptoms until I began the detox process.
I cannot say much about directly being treated by Dr. Nyquist , because I only spoke to him briefly on two occasions over several years. However, I am still stunned that he and his staff are ok with ignoring clients facing withdrawals with absolutely no guidance. Dr. Nyquist's lack of compassion, and that of his staff is absolutely stunning.
If you are considering treatment at this office, do so at your own peril.
