TLDR: Scamming, lying, insensitive, dishonest--or maybe just incompetent? Regardless, RUN! When I went to pay the bill for my wife's testing we were smacked with a bill that was nearly twice what we were told it would be. I asked them to honor the quoted amount, which they admitted was their mistake, which ended up with me talking to the "CEO" of the company. He told me that I had two options, one pay the nearly doubled price or, since someone had forgotten to get the consent to treat and bill from my wife, they could just scrap the whole thing. So basically, because of their mistake, we could either pay a lot more or throw away the time, energy and anxiety that my wife spent through almost 4 hours of testing. He came up with some insurance double speak about how he couldn't waive deductibles. No one asked him to. If he was contractually bound to the higher price with the insurance, he could have merely changed us to a cash pay and billed us as originally agreed. But nope, he was gonna get his pound of flesh or nothing. I asked them for the exact charge codes they were billing to my insurance. They gave me 8 charge numbers for the 8 tests they supposedly performed. I called my insurance company to find out more about these charge codes. In the process I learned from the insurance company that this office wasn't in our network (despite their claims that they were). For all 8 charge codes it would just a little less than the doubled rate at an in network provider. At this point I decided to just bite the bullet and pay the duplicitous office. I asked for a detailed, itemized bill of exactly what they were charging me and billing the insurance. They then hand me a 2x1" pink sticky note with a dollar amount written on it. I said, no, an actual, itemized bill. It took them 20 minutes or so, going back and forth in another room (I could hear them anyways) about which codes to charge, how many times, etc. They then came back with a handwritten paper with 4 of the 8 codes written down. (Only half the codes they originally told me they were going to charge). The total was still same, nearly doubled price. I asked them what about the other codes they wrote down. They said "Oh, those are for the consult you already had and the results consult later". So to break it down, they wanted to charge me that huge amount and they weren't even billing at this time for all the things they planned to bill for! We walked out without giving them the consent to treat or bill, quite frustrated with the waste of the day. As we were driving away, I realized they had charged my wife a co-pay when she checked in. Since we didn't end up actually consenting or getting the results of the service, I called them to have them refund our copay. The girl who answered the phone ended up mumbling something about billing might call me, she hung up. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I called back, told them we got disconnected, and asked when the billing department would be available. They cut me off with "You aren't a patient here" and hung up on me. Guess now I get to have the fun of disputing the charges with my CC company.

Athena Consulting wasn't the place for me, I started out loving the place with a great therapist, and great communication with the staff. Well an unexpect situation occurred and my therapist just up and left. The office manager tried in no way to notified me in any timely manner instead they just never answered the phone. Then there is Brandon he was my doctor while at Athena, he is different.... never makes eye contact and never speaks up. But let me say one thing Amanda who works upfront!!! Praise this woman because she is the only reason I kept going back she makes you feel heard and understood, she is one person who is holding up that fort. Amanda will be the only thing about this company that I miss. I can only give 3 stars as far as my overall experience but Amanda deserves all 5!

Inefficient at best! The appointment was made more than 1 month ago and I received a reminder email 2 days prior to the appointment. I arrive and wait 15 minutes only to be told that we would need to reschedule as my insurance "had not gone through" and apparently they were only notified the day before (how coincidental) and too late to inform me. I was also handed additional forms for completion (by others) to be returned within 3 days, ha! Rather than leave, I stood there and called my insurance company and let the rep talk to the office manager. After a 2 minute convo., they now have what they need so that we can be seen. Crisis averted, but had I (not them) not been persistent we would have lost a whole day of work and school for nothing . The problems at the front desk now have me questioning the quality of care that we may receive.

Loved our visit. They were on time and very professional. Staff took the time to answer all our questions. Theresa Monroe is highly recommended. She was very patient and thourough with my child. She took time to listen and ask plenty of questions. She was very open to is being able to call anytime with questions or concerns. Very happy!

Olivia & Antonia is right also Housta ! I completely agree! I have had to take my kids elsewhere. Van horn was great! Other staff complete JOKE! No returned phone calls ever! They seem to care more about gathering together to grab a bite to eat then about the patients standing in front of them. Dr Monroe came highly recommend but she saw my daughter &The more my daughter told her that she was sleeping and could not hold down a job on the medications she upped the milligrams and told her that she could see her at her private practice even though she won’t be taking insurance I am very disappointed in this office.

Dr Ihrig and his staff are phenomenal. They return my phone calls promptly on the same day and office staff is very pleasant. Customer service is very good. Dr Ihrig is great and very personable and thorough. A++++

Just plain dirty. My therapist wasn't very good, and when I cancelled my last appointment, they scheduled me for another without telling me and charged me $50 for not showing up. It took me several phone calls before they reimbursed me.

My wife went there and saw a nurse practitioner for her recent issues that she had been suffering for. The person she saw was horrible. After reading the reviews the same persons name keep being mentioned with one star rating and horrible complaints. Absolute negligence to employ and allow someone like that to keep seeing patients. Would not make eye contact, talked under his breath to where you couldn’t hear him, rude, forgot to have my wife to sign three release forms so he could follow up on her past medical records... hasn’t called regarding that.. so clearly he isn’t too concerned with coming rafting past doctors so he can accurately and safely treat her, prescribed new meds and couldnt explain the reason, the dosage, or anything regarding what he was prescribing... worst part is this was yesterday and the pharmacy still hasn’t received perscription he was suppose to call in. The ladies that work the front desk were nice. Other than that this place needs to be turned into whatever board oversees them. Complete joke! DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!

Stolen money, and billing issues. If I could give zero stars I would. At my intake appointment they wanted to charge me $150. My husband had just changed to a different job and his insurance had changed since I first called to set up the appointment. Usually one of the first questions an office will ask is, "have there been any changes to your insurance?" It's just professional. They didn't, but I figured no problem and told them. After they checked, it was now $45 copay. It also struck me as odd that even though I repeatedly told them my husband would be coming in to pay my copay (we are on his insurance) they kept referring to him as my boyfriend. Still, not a bad initial visit. Prior to my testing appointment, I was called by someone named Katie I believe? Very kind, told me she would call me back as to whether my tests would be $45 per test or $80 per test based on my insurance. She said they'd call me back with a quote. Never called back. Still, went in to my testing appointment with high hopes. Now HERE'S WHERE IT GETS INSANE! The woman who checked me in (also very kind) told me the tests are usually $80 each. Told her I was never called back about a quote and she looked around on her computer awhile. Said she thought it may be $45 a test with my insurance bringing the total down from $640 to only about $360. Then she went in another room to speak to someone awhile. Came out and said our copay would be $45 for the day and they could bill the rest giving us some sort of payment plan. Called my husband and got him to pay the $45 over the phone. I repeated back to her, "ok so it's only $360 total now as opposed to $640?" And she said yes. Did my testing till almost 1pm with a break for lunch. Get back from lunch and finish my testing while my husband tries to pay. They tell him it's going to be $80 per test, $640 total! I get called up front to see what's up and I repeat what I was told. THEN I have to fill out my intake papers again because they LOST my intake papers! I also had to sign the consent to treat form which I should've signed BEFORE doing my testing but they forgot to give me. What a nightmare! The woman dealing with my husband who was now obviously upset was very rude. Don't know her name but she was a young blonde lady. Husband called our insurance and they said that Athena isn't in our network and that we can go to someone down the street that will charge $400 less! Then Athena claimed they ARE in our network which doesn't explain why they were charging us $80 per test and the other place quoted us about $30 per test. So my husband says we aren't consenting to treatment because if they ARE in network they are overcharging. When we left, my husband tried to call to get a refund on the $45 copay we paid. They hung up on us numerous times telling us rudely that "they're sorry but I'm not a patient there anymore so they can't speak with us." So they stole money! So sketchy! We now have to dispute the charge with the credit company and we wasted a whole day. Would not reccomend to anyone ESPECIALLY if you are a patient like me who suffers from severe anxiety. Felt like I was trapped in a panic attack for the entire day because of them!

Terrible customer service. They clearly don’t care about their patients at all. Athena, if you can’t return a simple phone call then you need to close your doors. No one wants you in Nashville. You aren’t helping anyone. Clearly you just care about money.

Dreadful. Brandon Teeftaller especially. Seek care elsewhere!!! How is he even allowed to practice medicine? Makes up his own diagnoses not based on any objective testing or evidence, then pushes the same bipolar meds he probably gets kickbacks for. The incompetence is astounding and actually harmful to patients. The board needs to review this hack immediately.

I have been going to Athena Consulting, Dr. Livengood specifically, for over a year for therapy. Dr. Livengood is fantastic and makes me feel heard and that my feelings are justified. She also provides good suggestions that I can apply every day. The office staff is fantastic as well - I never have a problem with getting someone on the phone and they work to get me scheduled within my schedule constraints.

My son was a new patient at this practice, paid my services up front of $185.00 only to be told by the doctor that he could not give the care that my son would require. Gave us a referral to another psychologist where I would be charged another $200.00. He had the audacity to tell us to fill out a medical release form and he would send over my son's records. What records? -his new patient information sheet that we filled out and the letter I had sent to this doctor the day before so he could read about my sons case prior to the visit? I would have to say that was our records that I had put together. I would not recommend this place at all. I will gladly remove this negative comment if this office would do the right thing and refund my payment of services that WERE NOT rendered.

Always late. Always. If you don't have a lot of PTO then go somewhere else because they will eat it alive. Also seem to be unable to send reports to other doctors in a timely manner. I can't get medication until they send records which they have thus far failed to do. When they did answer the phone, the person on the other end said they had no record of me being there. Funny, cause they certainly got money out of my insurance. Basically, I'm out 12 hours of PTO and will likely not be able to start treatment anytime soon.

To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to express the poor customer service and billing practices I experienced at Athena Consulting, a therapist evaluation center. I went to Athena at a very delicate time in my life, but I knew they could help me work through them in a positive way. I was dealing with them initially they were easy to work with in scheduling and even the consultation was great and informative. The problem I’m having now is the billing portion. They overcharged me and instead of trying to work with me on paying my bill off, they sent my account to collections. I’ve called and personally tried to talk to the office manager, told her about my financial situation and here I am writing a letter to warn people about staying away from this company because they will take your appointments and then solely be focused on the money. What happened to having care and “complete” concern for your patients? With this company that mindset goes out the door once you’ve been seen and their focus only is collecting as much money they can and not working with their patients. I will go through every social media and medical forum to keep anyone else from having to go through this headache this ordeal in dealing with this company has been . Stay Away

I've read great things about the doctor I tried to see, but my appointment was canceled on a Sunday night, ahead of a Thursday appointment, and I was never contacted to reschedule. I've followed up twice since then with no response at all. I'm sure the clinicians are great but if you can't get a therapist to call you back, how the heck will you get the confidence to talk to other people?

This is a company that is really helping people every single day, it's nice to walk in and receive such a warm caring greeting from the staff, and especially from Amanda, it's like walking into a room of "Sunshine and Rainbows" with a cute little bunny by the stream. ( LOL ) you get the idea. Dr. Boero is a credit to there staff as well, down to earth but caring to all issues at hand. The Management I believe is firmly committed to helping all there clients feel as comfortable as possible. I would highly recommend Athena Consulting to anyone who is wanting a team of professionals to help with our daily or unforeseen issues we all may experience from time to time in our lives. Cheers!

I saw Brandon Teeftaller at Athena who provided the worst patient care I have ever received. He never made eye contact with me, never introduced himself to me, his office was a mess with coke bottles scattered about, patient names could be seen on his desk, he had trash just laying around and was even checking his phone during our session.He was dismissive, distant and totally unconcerned for me and why I was there. Before leaving he tried to send me home with medication without educating me or explaining anything about it, gave me a bogus diagnosis without ever explaining anything about it or what it meant. He just starred down at his clipboard and wrote things down. He also looks like a total mess, his under shirt was hanging out and he looks like he hasn't slept in weeks. Brandon is completely unprofessional all together. It's scary they have a person like him providing very important mental health services to people. He is awful. I spoke to Charles their office manager and although he was kind and apologetic, it doesnt take away the horrible experience I had with Brandon Teeftaller. I absolutely do not reccomend.
