This place should be condemned! This place could not be any less helpful for patients dealing with mental health issues! It's gloomy, it's understaffed and it literally smells like someone's sewer has backed up into the building. The smell was so strong you would gag and the staff would spray air freshener every so often to try and mask it, and this is just the aesthetics of the place. Let me go on about the "staff". There is no designated visiting area, patients can roam in an out while you are visiting, patients with violent/angry tendencies are watched from a distance and when they decide to act out and get aggressive, all hell breaks loose. The staff itself is condescending, rude, and really knows how to spout off what's in the employee handbook but that doesn't mean they are following it. No one seems to know where anyone is at any certain time and when we asked what our patient was supposed to do if anxiety or panic comes up, they said she had to come and find one of the staff and they would help her. Anyone suffering with these conditions knows that you can barely move, let alone think to go and find someone, which they wouldn't be able to do all that easily either. Visiting hours are one and a half hours and it took me early 30 to 45 minutes of that just to get into the floor since no one mans the desk to answer the buzzer at the door. I have never been so afraid for someone to be in a place as I am of this one. It's dirty, it's run down, the staff is rude and doesn't want to be bothered. If i could have this place shut down today, I WOULD!

It was almost 4 years ago when I stayed here. This place was absolutely horrible. I have type 1 diabetes and celiac disease, so I need my proper insulin dosages and a gluten free diet. Well I still remember my stay from here very vividly and I've been to 2 other psychiatric hospitals before. The night I got there I didn't eat snack and my blood sugar was over 300. The nurse refused to give me insulin because I didn't eat snack, so I went to bed with a high blood sugar. I woke up around 3 in the morning very sick. I was vomiting and dehydrated. There was a nurse who helped me out and gave me my insulin because she said she was diabetic too and got me some water to drink. I tried complaining about the nurse who refused my insulin and nothing was done about her. I could've ended up in the ER in DKA and died because of that nurses neglect. The food there was also a joke. Most of the staff didn't even know what a gluten free diet was. So I was pretty much eating plain boring gross food while there. The doctors weren't much better either. My very first morning there I signed my 72 hour notice begging to get out because they were harming my health. I had a couple family members call in and complain about how I was being treated and nothing was done. They did let me go after the 72 hours was up. If I had to stay there any longer than that I definitely would have requested to be transferred to another facility. The best part about being there was when I got to leave and go home. Every other time I needed place in a psychiatric hospital I begged them not to send me to Haven because of how horrible I was treated. They never sent me there again. It was the first psychiatric hospital I ever stayed at. My other 3 stays were between Roxbury Treatment Center in Shippensburg and PPI in Harrisburg. I was treated a million times better at those place and they took my medical conditions seriously.

Absolutely a lovely place to be. The rules are strict and you'll be restricted a bit, but the care they provide is top notch. I really believe my life has changed for the better thanks to this hospital. The groups are awesome, the food was good, and the staff are all there to help. Many of them have dealt with mental health issues before. I never felt judged for a single second while I was there, so I could be honest about my feelings and symptoms to get the care I needed. I left Haven a better man, ready to tackle life's challenges. I wish I could leave 10 stars.

Haven was one of the worst experiences of my life! The staff took my journal and allowed the patients to read it and they passed it around to all the patients. I heard the patients reading aloud my journal and every time I got close to someone who was reading it, they would pass it to someone else secretly!!!! I was abused mentally and emotionally at Haven!!!!

Pam Alban

Terrible communication with staff. Nicki called for my sons history all pleasant. I thought wow these reviews are wrong. I let them know when i was available to call.entire time i received 3 10 second voice mails.could never get them back.megan also.left message for who i thought was in charge never heard back from her. How are you supposed to get help for your family member without knowing the issues????

Keith Smith

The staff at Haven were completely professional, but so much more. They were kind, positive and empowering! The 3rd Floor Adult unit poured their lives into me, and after 8 days, I left Haven ready and grateful to live. Perhaps it was the severity of my condition, but I'm finally owning my illness, because this is the fourth time I've been hospitalized for behavior issues and Haven has, by far, been the most helpful. Thanks!

If I could give this place a 0 I would. And BTW before I wrote this review I tried calling the number they provided and NOTHING, rang once and went to voicemail. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANYONE to this facility. Went to visit a family member and it broke my heart leaving them there, I was crying. The one worker and I got into it because how she was treating ME and I'm not even a patient, she was this skinny black chic who acted like she ran the place and had the biggest attitude I have ever seen , and they are supposed to help people?!?!?! Please someone inform me how I can get them inspected and shut down. The person I visited had threats made at her by other patients, they treat these people like they are serving time, honestly it is worse then jail. It is in NO WAY therapeutic or helpful. If your family is struggling just pay for a nice facility that will help. I asked if I could transfer her and they said no. I cannot say enough bad things about this place. JUST know whoever is reading this, how you treat someone I care about is not okay and I will try my absolute best to have you all fired and this facility improved or shutdown, it is an absolute disgrace. Also they keep the people who are a danger to those that are not a danger, even prisons split people up based on their needs. This is how disgusting this place is. Again cant say enough negative things about this place.

All the staff at Haven work hard to make your stay there comfortable and meaningful. 5 stars for the staff.

I have been an employee at haven for a few years now and I honestly can say that I love my job. I think it is great to see the improvements the patients make from day one to their discharge. The teamwork and support I get from my co workers is fantastic. I wasn't sure I would like psych nursing but I can tell you I don't miss the beeping from wound vacs or IVs at all. I love that I can be a part in ending the stigma of mental health.

I was there maybe 6 years ago...and i just read all the reviews and comments of people....wow they are dead on. Its so sad that 6 years later nothing has changed. Haven?!!? Seriously?!!!? U really dont see how ur nurses treat the patients. And u seriously think that coming in at 6 in the morning while still asleep. Wake me up seeing me for 30 seconds and not tell me a damn thing that ur gonna do...i had no counseling there...left there with no coping skills or methods nothing...all we did was color all day amd "groups" were pointless that had nothing to do with helping when panic or anxiety or depression hit...YOU DO NOT ADVICE ON ANYTHING!! Im so mad at u guys. I still wanted to kill myself after leaving there. YOU GUYS DID NOOOTHING!! And from ehat im reading ur staff STILL treats patients very rudely and mean and very disrespectful. Im hoing through alot and wanted to admit myself but after reading thats nothings changed..id rather kill myself...hahah

I have been in both hospital programs and I have decided that if I should have a meltdown again that I would definitely choose Haven. I have found the staff to be extremely knowledgeable and supportive; I would not go anywhere else. Most recently I spent nearly 4 weeks in partial. I went in severely depressed and suicidal. It was either go inpatient or to partial. I chose partial and it was hard to get up each morning to go. But I did because of the encouragement that I received from staff. Julie and Kelly truly know what they are doing and they do it well. I wasn't necessarily ready to leave after 4 weeks, But Julie has set up a number of follow ups for me that gave me the grounding I needed to feel safe. The only area for improvement is the need for Art Therapy. I have kept the prior pieces of art work and have hung them in my bedroom and on the kitchen icebox. They are great reminders. So I just want to say Thank you for being here., Tammy

Great staff, not enough time in the program but I did learn slot.

Honestly, they don't even know who is who there. Caseworker insists I requested meetings that I never did. Can't get name straight or correct. Was told they don't fill out FMLA forms for caretakers. I have a hard time believing any hospital, health system, doctor, nurse or caseworker is this inept. I'm highly alarmed my family member (the patient) is in very bad hands if they are managed this poorly. Nurse's station claimed they didn't even have a patient under that name. After 5 days of being there. I am just shaken up by this lackadaisical attitude/care.

Bubbibear Mom

this place is hell on earth. staff is a bunch of rude people. ppl on maintenance medication for asthma were ignored for 2 hrs waiting for their rescue inhaler, i know it happened to me. they put everyone on the same mental health medications and when you refuse them they keep trying to slip you the medication. i would never put someone i loved in this place, it is hell on earth and its filthy. cleaning staff is a joke. and if u think you will actually get therapy there is a moron. you're insurance is paying for you to color with crayola markers. it is the most ridiculous facility. you dont even see a therapist for more than 5 min.

Kyle Overholtzer

Very poor place to be. The staff and doctors are rude. The place isn't that clean groups are ok food is severed cold. Not the best If possible go elsewhere.

Avoid at all costs. Patients were treated as less than human. Food was appalling. No access to outdoors, no access to vitamins or anything besides a 1 minute visit with a doctor who had 65 patients to manage in about 3 hours. There is no personal attention given to your care at this place, and each and every individual I was with declared that this place was making them more insane than they've ever felt. When attempting to sign a 72 hour release, I was warned that I may be arrested and put back in on a 302 with zero basis. These 3 days were the worst experience of my life and I highly suggest anyone who is considering this facility to look else where. It is the McDonald's of psych wards. Some of the techs did care, but they were powerless to the rules that were made only to keep patients in the system as long as possible.

Cody Henn

One of the worst places to deal with. They are not helpful at all with information. The staff is always disrespectful especially the nursing stuff. Some of the most unprofessional people I have seen.

Definitely to be avoided at all costs. I have a family member there and their experience mirrors the review under mine. Huge focus on drugs and the doctors will even resort to threatening patients with jail if they choose not to take medication (even though it is their right). Patients see the doctor for about a minute each morning. And good luck trying to get any information about your treatment and diagnosis other than a print out from a search on Google. I've been there every day and called at all times and there is never a doctor there to speak with. They will also keep you as long as they can to squeeze the most money out of you. I wouldn't even take my dog or my worst enemy here. Even the people who clean are disgustingly rude. If you or someone you know would like to make this dump money by being a barely conscious sack of meat in one of their crappy beds then by all means. I would try to spend the extra money to go to a place that ACTUALLY helps people.

So very disappointed with the communication provided to family members during this process. We have struggled for years trying to get help for my mother in law and due to laws we faced many barriers. We though when we finally got her into the hospital and she was transferred to Haven we would see a light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, most of the people we dealt with lacked people skills and trying to get information from them was extremely difficult. This was a very uncomfortable situation for my husband who is an only child and the staff at Haven did not make it any easier.

Waheeda Shah

I just want to thank everyone for helping my husband and most of all me thank you for your service

Attended a training for "Connecting with Dementia Patients through Activities," and it was great, learned about some new games and some new approaches. I think everyone who works with this population should take this training.

Place is ok if u dont have serious mental problems. Only see dr maybe 5 min never even told anyone anthing about why there ect.. but they have plenty to do to keep u busys and they have some of the greatest nurses abd techs. And have really good desserts lol

I was a patient here and tbh the best people around they know how to do there business and they treat you with all the respect in the world

My son signed himself in for help and we realized this place was not right for him. The place was more like a prison than a place to help someone with dealing with a death from seeing a sibling suicide. They never informed him to sign a three day stay paper and kept him for five days. Social worker is that what they call wardens now. They don't return calls. No information to family. They see doctors at six in the morning when they are still half asleep. And when we were visiting they made us leave because one of the patients got out of hand. Why would you not help someone who wants help. Just put them in a room and say they need to come to us. The Haven is awful. The social worker and doctors have no compassion or professionalism!!! Don't go!!!

I’m not sure where to start with this but I was at this facility visiting my girlfriend over the weekend and was appalled over some of the events that were occurring. First she is gluten intolerant and I overheard staff making fun of her condition and saying it’s “made up”. Second she had been forced to starve because all of her meal choices have been gluten choice meals. For example, pasta salad and noodle soup for lunch. For a hospital not to have choices for allergens this day in age is ridiculous. You wouldn’t give people with diabetes sugar or carbs so how is this any different. And staff making fun of this is very unprofessional and disheartening. The next issue I have is with the cubbies that I had to leave my belongings in. The 4th floor had locking lockers but the 3rd floor gets cubbies? Come on... they aren’t that expensive. Get it together. This place should seriously be shut down for neglecting patients and uncaring staff. I have never seen a place run so poorly. I have been in many hospitals, visiting, in my lifetime, but this one takes the cake.
