REVIEWS OF Julia Irwin, M.D. IN Oklahoma

Emily Balch

I was denied at the time of my appointment, that i had made a month before, because the receptionist wasn't able to understand how insurance works.

Mark Caldwell

I have found this office to be very caring and compassionate.

Leah Thomas

If I could give her zero stars I would. Been a patient since January and literally have never met “Dr. Irwin” She lets Nicole prescribe medication that causes allergic reactions then tells you that you’re “noncomplaint” with medications. Well yeah if you got a rash every time you took a pill, would you take it? Besides that I was ADVISED BY NICOLE to stop taking it. The receptionist is unpleasant, too. They sure will bill your insurance for a Dr visit when you didn’t see the Doctor and take your copays but when it comes to PATIENT CARE, they greatly lack. Sure they won’t miss one patient, but I will gladly take myself somewhere else!! You should too!

Frank Howe

this lady is a total quack. stay away she is harmful to her patients bu her reckless diagnosis in 10 minutes of questions.

Holly Medina

I met with Nicole who gathered a 10 minute history, ordered records from my previous doctor and has yet to call me back. That was over two months ago even though I've followed up with her office twice. And the reviews that mention the front desk receptionist being rude are correct. She is not a people person, cold and a completely unprofessional. I'm going back to my old doctor even if it means waiting 3 more months.

Medical Student

As a medical student I started experiencing mental health issues. I decided to seek professional care at Dr. Irwin's practice. My first visit lasted about 10 minutes. This visit consisted of an extremely inadequate gathering of my medical history and a bewildering dialogue about the treatment option. I left feeling extremely unsatisfied in the care I had received. My visit lacked some of the very most basic things that are taught early on in medical school. I received a very large bill following my visit... Several months went by, and I was still having severe mental health issues so my psychologist suggested that I may need medication. Reluctantly, I returned to Irwin's practice. During this visit I was asked exactly zero questions after I explained why I was back. I was told that Dr. Irwin doesn't like to write prescriptions for the type of medication I thought I might need. I asked if the nurse practitioner could speak with Dr. Irwin directly to see if she could evaluate my situation. I was told no, and given the name of another psychiatrist. I wasn't even screened for anything.... A history wasn't taken. I felt devastated because I desperately needed help. I asked if my 5 minute visit was still going to be billed at full price. I was then sent to deal with the office manager who was extremely rude, and insisted my visit was still subject to full billing. It makes me sad that there are practices that treat patients in this manner. Once I establish my own practice I will ensure that the type of shortcomings I experienced with Dr. Irwin's practice are never experienced by my patients.

Go somewhere else. All these people care about is money, they don't care about quality patient care. As others have stated, I never actually spoke to Dr. Irwin, not one damned time. And if you need your records, they'll make you get an attorney involve. They won't write a simple letter that states your diagnosis either, if you'd like to move on to another doctor, they will make you go through a brand-new evaluation. I can confirm that the receptionist is cold, she's also very rude and lacks phone manners. I know that this office has been around for years, and it seems that it has progressively worsened over time. I can confirm that they take advantage of any billing opportunities as often as possible. Just today, they made me sit in the office for approximately 1 hour as I waited for a letter that simply stated my diagnosis. The receptionist then told me that Dr. Irwin wouldn’t write a letter for me to forward to my other doctor, and that I should get a new evaluation since they only saw me one time. Okay, in a way, I see their point. In another way, they had to draw some form of conclusion to prescribe medication to me. Otherwise, what the hell are they prescribing medication for on the first visit, if they have no idea what your condition is? They told me I was “treated” for depression. That’s untrue, I was treated for anxiety AND depression, but I guess they left that little detail off. Okay, so another doctor is supposed to take my word for it? I personally couldn’t continue seeing them for a few reasons. They are costly, even if you have good insurance, in my case, I had good insurance. It would cost me $60 up front, and they would run the rest through my insurance and I still would owe around $50 that would be due upon the next visit including the new charge for an office visit. So, an easily $110 per month and then the cost of my medications. The medications would cost approximately $85/mo. so I’m looking at roughly $200 a month just to try to make myself feel a tiny bit relieved. Nicole is who I spoke with and works on behalf of Dr. Irwin. She asked me a series of questions, typed on her computer while she half assed listened to what I was saying and making her own notions about my ailments. The questions were of course, part of evaluating me, it was mundane, and she just seemed so completely out of touch with me. As we were ending, she made a couple of suggestions for medication and sent me out the door. That’s what they do though, they listen to you, formulate their little medical opinion, and then send you out the door with prescriptions. I don’t think they thoroughly evaluate any of their patients, as I certainly don’t feel like they properly evaluated me. As far as I am aware, every patient is entitled to review their medical records according to HIPAA and AMA. I am unsure as to whether psychiatric/psychological records follow the same suit as any other doctor’s practice/office. You can bet that I’ll be speaking to an attorney in the coming days. They stated that they would not write even a letter for me because we weren’t established is basically what they said, and that I would need an attorney to get medical records, that they weren’t MY records, they were the doctor’s records. I’ll be sure to come back on here and update with further information that I find in case anyone else stumbles across my post with a similar situation. I’m sure I can’t be the only one. Do not waste your time. Do not waste your money. If you are looking for help, please look at other options and really investigate your doctor before you go and see them and establish trust. This office will gladly take you in and send you right back out with medication. All they do is pump people full of medicine. Just be careful.

I have been a patient of Dr. Julia Irwin from 2005 until 2016 and can honestly say that she listens attentively and offers excellent advice, coping strategies, and viable steps towards handling my problems. She has basically saved my life period. In fact I was looking up her office phone number to make a new appointment when I came across this review page. I am sorry to see the negative reviews here and don't believe that those people ever really knew Dr. Irwin. I am very satisfied with the way she handled my case. Her office staff may not seem overly friendly sometimes, with all smiles all of the time, but they have their job to do and I can respect and appreciate that. I have been visiting that office for years and just want to say that they ARE nice people.

I went there about a month ago seeking a second opinion on my daughter's current medications for bipolar depression and anxiety disorder....I didn't like the way the receptionist treated us and neither did my daughter. She was in this huge hurry and I swear, if I didn't know any better, I'd think she was "tweaking" on drugs. I have a niece who is on Meth and this receptionist acted the same way she does. She kept opening and closing the glass window between each patient and there were about 4 patients lined up at her window. She kept twirling her pen in circles and when she was done with it, she didn't just lay it on the counter, she threw it down in an aggressive way. She moved around her little space like a humming bird, flitting here and there and it made me nervous just watching her jerky, over-reactive movements. She was not friendly to us and being new to this office, she just left us feeling like we were in her way. Then when we saw the psychiatrist, she, too, acted in a hurry and treated us like we were just a number and not a mother/daughter with a very serious need for help and treatment. She was abrupt and not in any way loving or kind or caring--just get us in and get us out so she could see the next person in line. So we will not go back!

I've been seeing Dr Irwin for over 10 years. She is a very caring person that listens. She is very well educated and up-to-date on new medications. She is very personable and I would recommend her to anyone.

Mel Andrews

I can’t give negative stars. I was inappropriately medicated by her & she refused to see me when I was having a mental health crisis. Ms Irwin is in this for herself & cares little for her patients. Go somewhere else. I did.

Unfortunately I can't give "zero" stars.Take your money elsewhere! Receptionist VERY unfriendly-borderline rude. I was referred to this clinic by a veteran's foundation, therefore I thought they would be very friendly towards veterans-I was mistaken. I made an appointment in July for August. Unfortunately, things come up that you cannot foresee a month ahead of time. I called 24 hours before my appointment to reschedule. I don't know what their rescheduling/cancellation policy is as it was never explained to me. I was told by the receptionist "Dr.Irwin doesn't see patients who reschedule/cancel so you'll have to see our other doctor." That's kind of odd, but fine. I guess she doesn't like money. Today, September 20th, I get to my appoint 30 minutes ahead of schedule to fill out necessary paperwork. I stood there at the front desk for a few minutes before the receptionist even acknowledged my existence. You have to pay BEFORE you get seen-again, kind of odd (never had to pre-pay an appt before), but okay. I give the receptionist the check and she looks at me weird, hands me paperwork and tells me to start filling it out while she asks the doctor a question. She comes back within 5 minutes and says NOTHING to me, so I figured everything was okay & I continue to fill out the paperwork. 15 minutes later, I give her the paperwork and she THEN tells me "We're not going to be able to see you today (I had this appt for a month). Go get referred to another doctor." Hmm...she says they don't accept checks anymore. It was NOT a personal check. It was from the foundation that refers patients to them...you'd think they'd be a little friendlier. They knew I was paying with a check since the first time I called. I don't know why they wanted to wait until my appointment to tell me they can't accept it. DO NOT GO HERE. They have terrible reviews anyways. Find a doctor that actually cares about your well-being and employs friendly, competent staff.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Irwin for 7 years and she changed my life.

Melia Benjamin

I have gone to her for about 17 years and have had nothing but a good experience.

Lacey Hopkins

Very rude receptionist! You would think they would treat patients a little kinder. When you have mental health issues and are seeking help the last thing you want is to be treated badly by the Doctors office! Lady you need to find a new line of work. I can assure you that you have upset several patients! Shame on you!!

Teresa Brock

Julia has always made me feel comfortable and answers any questions I've had very professionally! She has a laid back demeanor that puts me at ease! I have referred her to people I know for these reasons!

Heather Gould

I have been with them for years. Dr. Irwin and Donna Bowers helped me with my bipolar disorder. Refer others frequently. Excellent facility.

Debbie Klimkoski

No complaints so far. Was in a month ago. Nice office. No waiting. Liked Dr. Irwin.

Paradise Jewel

The receptionist was very rude dishonest and very nonchalant. Waited 2 months to see Dr Julia Irwin never got a chance. Because Of the receptionist . Honestly hope and pray no one experiences the type of discrimination I just received.

Allen Winters

I go there for tx of Adult ADD. Donna Bowers is Dr. Erwin's P.A. who handles my med. The office personnel are always nice to me every month when I go in and always help with getting me scheduled and rescheduled I'd needed. Donna is very nice and always asks how I feel, how do I feel the medicine is working, she listens to my concerns and we've worked out a plan for the long term on the treatment. I feel that most bad reviews of Psychiatrists is based on the fact that the patients don't get what they want. Some want Xanax , Ativan, or Aderall or other controlled drugs and the doctor doesn't give it to them so they get mad and write bad reviews. Psychiatrist handles your meds and a good psychologist handles your psychotherapy.

casie levering

I do not recommend. 2 visits later and she does nothing to help my mother who has lewys bodies dementia- same as robin williams. She never did an MRI. The last mri was over 5-6 years ago. You cannot help if you dont talk to the patient or family. Even if the patient ask for the family to come in and help. Yep the receptionist is rude as all get out!! why is she still there?

$10 a minute.

Dr Irwin is a wonderful doctor. Listens and shows compassion to her patients. Very knowledgeable in her field. The only issue i have is whoever answered the phone this morning Friday December 21st, 2018 at 8:15am was very rude. I called to ask Dr Irwin if she was still doing recommendations for medical marijuana. She was on the OMMA list of doctors who are board certified to recommend medical marijuana. I asked if Dr Irwin was in, the lady said yes this is her office, shes in how can i help you? I asked the secretary if Dr Irwin was still doing recommendations for medical marijuana. The lady abruptly said no we dont do that here. I started to tell her that Dr Irwin was still on the list but the lady just hung up on me. Not even saying have a nice day or goodbye.

Monty Marchant

I never saw her, I saw her assistant who was not a doctor. We would talk for 10 minutes and she would okay my medications. I paid the same as I would have if I had seen Dr. Irwin.

Liz

The receptionist is not friendly. She needs to work on her front office manners. I would describe her demeanor as icy. If you come here, and you are on pain medication, you will be forced to choose between medications that help control painful conditions that don't go away, or medication that helps you maintain a calm emotional state. Your choice/voice in the matter is irrelevant thanks to what they say is government intrusion. I would not recommend this place, because (a) it is costly, and (b) they look down on you if you are on pain medication. I was basically told you can either suffer physically and get emotional relief, or you can suffer emotionally and have physical relief, but you can't have relief for both. The medication I have been on (after a laundry list from months and years previously) for the last 3 years has been taken away. I'm not an abuser, or a dealer, or a pill seeker. I am someone who struggles, who hurts more than people know.
