This is my worst nightmare , my son it’s there being assault many times ,it’s no one single document or record he been hurt , but it’s many bruised on him, beside that the staff blamed my son injured himself, I called the police and they found a reason to file a police report as well DSS is investigators are involve . During my visitation all the children’s report be assualt by their own staff Mr Jay Jay name was very popular for chocking and hurt children’s If you child it’s there you have the right to call the police because if you child is under your care is a responsibility ,accountability about their well been. If you leave a bruise on your child for sure you will be arrest for be a abuser . Now explain to me if my son can’t tell me what did to him , phone call should be from 4 to 8pm all the time it’s 9:30

Well I am trying to figure out why no one has returned my phone calls about my sons discharge and getting his education paperwork to get him enrolled in regular school. Iv called his counselor Kristen multiples times but all my calls go directly to her voice mail and she never calls me back and I emailed the principal of this behavioral center and have yet to get a return email or a phone call. His was discharged suddenly because we had a one week lapse while switching insurance companies. I dont understand how the first person to reccomend discharge is the finance person who demanded 9000 Dollars for the week our insurance was being switched and we were told our child would be kicked out if we didnt give her 9000. After we could not produce 9000 they said he was suddenly cured and discharged 2 days later becuase, apparently it's finance who determines the state of your child's mental health. His paperwork wasn't ready and I was told they would send it to me it's been three weeks. Iv been calling for two weeks now. Great place when they make a diagnosis on your child but don't complete the treatment plan. This review is short in comparison to his injuries and medication side effects that were sever enough to cause hallucinations. I was lied to about the cause of his injuries that were caused by psycial altercations and the lack of concern for treating the injuries that happend while he was there. Maybe this will cause someone to call me back before I attempt to contact a military lawyer.

I myself attended the Leland facility when I was 16 and wile the teachers were the best part of my experience there almost all the other staff lacked the nesecarry tools to guide and help the kids that are there. I beat up a kid for one of the staff members because he was sneaking in pills for me to snort, the kid had done nothing wrong and DID NOT DESERVE what I had did to him. There were female patients who had told me they were engaging in sexual acts with male staff on there hall at night. Sometimes the male staff would work on the female halls at night and watch bisexual / lesbian patients have sex, make out, take showers together. The staff do not have to have sufficient credentials to work as guidance counselors. I'm not talking about the therapists but the staff who walk you to class and meal times, the ones who watch over the halls as the patients sleep.

Overall, my experience with SBC Wilmington has been mostly satisfactory. The staff is generally polite, although some MHTs (mental health technicians, the staff that stay with us all day) can be rather rude at times, but it's generally when pushed to a certain level that most humans cannot remain even-tempered at. Of course, some staff are absolutely outstanding, with calm demeanors, open minds, and an understanding mindset. Some of these staff are; Ms. Meagan (The short blonde one), Mr. Jabari, Ms. Nicole, Mr. Tyler, and Ms. Kay. However, I do have some complaints. The first being the sanitation in general. There are a great deal of ants in the rooms and there have been sightings of cockroaches in the cafeteria. Another issue I have is with the education department. While the teachers are fantastic, the work being presented to us is rather easy.

Hello. So I got sent here from a hospitial after self harming. I stayed around 8 days. There is alot of drama here between kids, and alot of arguing, also there isn't really therapy that truly helps. It looks more like an insane asylum

Alicia Kornegay

Awesome experience with staff. Loving and warm open atmosphere. As a nurse I would love the opportunity to work at such a giving and wonderful place

It would greatly benefit the Plan of Care when being discharged from Strategic Behavioral Center located in Garner, NC if the Doctor would pre-authorize the prescription that was administered to my child and written on the date of dischargement. Now over 72 hours after discharge my child is relapsing to the state of Mental Illness when she was admitted. I have called many numbers to address this issue as well as the Pharmacy has faxed this information more than one time each day for over 72 hours. Still cannot fill the prescription. The facility is not for the care of the client as they just do their job to get by. My child had no shampoo for two days, no soap was ever received, she was having to brush her hair with a comb until I had to contact staff several times, her clothes were not even known for two days, she couldn't get assistance for a towel after showering and dried off with her own clothes. Upon leaving she had lice and nits in her hair. If you truly love your children or loved one please do not send them to this facility.

Stacey Smith

Do not send your child here. Therapists and doctors do not care about the well-being of your child or either they are not properly trained. First my child was diagnosed wrong. Then after weeks of being there; they said they corrected the issue and replaced the therapist. They changed his medication and said they would refer him to continue his needed care in a facility so he would be safe. Then out of nowhere they say they are releasing him. We strongly advised the therapist, he was not ready to be out in the community yet. I am very disappointed and was lied to, the therapist, Leslie told me he would have all the resources he needed in the ACT program when released. He gets out and no resources have been provided and he is not in the ACT program, had to find a place to give him his medication at the very last minute. Not to mention, found out his dosage was not right for him. Its only been two weeks and so much has happened in this short period of time with my child. Its too much to type, needless to say he is now in another facility, hopefully he will get the proper care this time. PS. I changed my name for privacy concerns but this place is a big disappointment, I would give them no stars if I could.

By far not the worst place I've been. I got to meet a lot of people in this prtf.

I was court ordered to this facility for acute rehab after being diagnosed with depression when I was 17. The traveling therapists that come to visit you give you conflicting information... one man telling us that mental illnesses don't exist and how it's "all in our heads", and the next day a woman would come in and tell us they did exist and contradict everything he said. I knew better but that is dangerous to tell a child (as young as 7 in my group). The outside area has no view of the outside world, just brick wall and some grass, you can't come out of your room to go back and sit in the community room- where you will be nearly all day, and where you just sit straight in a chair. I also never received the homework my parents brought.Thankfully my mom thought to make copies of all my schoolwork. At Strategic, it felt like no one would actually listen to me- they were just pushing me through to open the bed for the next person on the waiting list. And, as others have mentioned before, it can get cagey because we are all talking about subjects that are not easy to open up on. If you have dietary restrictions, you will have a slightly harder time eating. We had a vegetarian in my group and it was difficult for her to find anything she could eat besides the sides.

Sandra Ruffin

I learned so much during my time here. I relish the memories and hopefully the same doctors and their assistants are still on staff. Five stars!

Horrible place. The visit caused even more trauma. I was in acute for two months and it was complete hell. One staff was so bad that my roommate tried to kill herself while I was there from the mistreatment.

I have been working for Strategic for 5 Years in September of this year. I love coming to work every day to see our kids and help them succeed. However, not every child is very receptive to us at first. They have been through so much and have severe trust issues, and a lot of them have an i don't care attitude until they are willing to accept treatment. I have met and built an awesome report with parents, they do trust me. This job is not for everyone, not everyone can handle being assaulted, spit at, cursed out or being mistreated but we have to keep in mind that our kids are in there for a reason. Not all staff are lazy or rude or don't care. I have met some amazing Co- workers and we have been there for each other as well as our kids. I would love to see a little more growth opportunities for the veteran staff that has been there and dedicated their time to the Company. Please do not let the negative reviews you read discourage you from sending your child or parent there. We have an amazing program that works.

Jaiden Tyndall

This place was one of the worst places i have ever been to in my life staff was lazy they made us sit in a room called the "dayroom" for the whole day and just wasnt clesan you only got to talk to your parents for like 10 or 15 minutes worst of all the had horrible food tbh

Jeff Barto

Looking to place someone here, but its discouraging when only the irate people post. I'm a teacher and I know that satisfied students are not motivated to write good reviews, they got their A and move on. Only the D and F student bark and moan and are motivated to let the world know how terrible you are as a teacher. I suspect the same goes for a place like this. Satisfied patients and families move on but the disgruntled feel more motivated to seek their pound of flesh, often blaming others instead of asking what their accountability is. I would like those who have had a good experience to chime in more. Tired of reading about all the bitching.

My grandfather was supposedly suffering from sun downing and this happened out of no where but his oldest son decided to admit my grandfather to this facility. Once my grandfather was bought there he had no idea what was going on he was drugged daily to the point that no matter what time of day I would call they would tell me he was sleeping. My mother flew to North Carolina from New York and she is his power of attorney so she had spoken with the staff and informed them that she wants to discharge him and move him to New York with her. They told her they did not agree and would sign him out against medical advice but she was already decided so she told them she would be there Saturday morning. When we arrived Saturday morning to discharge him they drugged him so bad he wouldn’t wake up, he couldn’t walk he was slumped over in a wheelchair out cold. It took 3 staff members, myself and my boyfriend to get him into the vehicle and we drove 3 hours to Charlotte NC airport and during all of this he would still not wake up. This as the worst and most tramautizing experience ever. The worst part of it all is since he was taken from that facility he is not experiencing any of the things they said he was suffering from. The doctors in New York even wondered why they had him on all those medications so they took him off. My grandpa is 100% better. I suggest if you truly love your family member do not consider placing them at this facility.

Bekah Allen

I was a skeptic at first with the negative reviews and also a bad experience at a completely different facilty. However.. Communication is key and they answered all my questions and some.. Also I was always able too get in touch with somebody (even with bad weather/tech difficulties) I was scared , honestly who isn't?.. I truly appreciate the help we received, our child was not thrilled and wanted to come home everyday , BUT we. Desperately needed some outside help! Also adding he hasnt been quiet about his stay on a good note !! Hoping we dont have too return , but if we do I will push for here AGAIN and that is saying a lot. I would also like too say Dr Robby is one in a million very intuned we would give 10 *'s alone on our exp with him alone. Thank you! B. Allen

This place would be good only if you were to send your most hated enemy. I am an insulin dependent diabetic whose insulin doses were skipped. I was asked why did you ask for them. Last time I was in a hospital the nurses brought me my meds. When I did tell the doctor they went to find out why. I was told that the nurse giving out the meds some how skipped me. When I went to get them I was told it was too close to when I was supposed to get my dose (I take at minimum 4 shots per day) so to just wait. It was not only my insulin but all my meds except synthroid cause the evening nurse gave that to me at 6am. You were treated like a prisoner. I had signed myself in to get help for severe depression and ptsd. I am a vegetarian and the food was lacking nutritional value. Many of the other patients were mistreated and I felt like God put me there to stand up for them. I was only there 4 days after my counselor told me that that place was not where I needed to be. The nurse's aids took food off the patients trays, ignored the ones for were the majority that had no one that would look into their complaints. I could go on for pages but absolutely horrible full of mistreatment.

As a former RN at Strategic I highly recommend that you never endanger your child by sending them there. Constant physical fights between patients and patients attacking staff are the norm. The administration's main goal is to make as much money as possible using as few staff as possible. Their spiritual centered care is all FAKE. They don't encourage any form of spiritual life. Anyone caught speaking to a patient about spiritual matters will be reprimanded and or fired. Drugging your child into a zombie state is not the road to wholeness.

Was hit and shoved and ridiculed by a peer. When I threatened to hit back, my peer was the victim. Staff did nothing about it (note that this peer had several incidents of physical aggression towards staff and made fun of literally everyone.) The handling of self-harm and suicidal thoughts consists of “Close Obs”, where someone is an arms length away from them at all times, destroying what little privacy you have and often worsening said suicidal thoughts or self-harm. I learnt no coping skills. This place made me more suicidal. The only helpful thing was the medication I was put on. Send your worst enemy.

Cody Hedrick

Staff don't handle the children getting beat up and are also very rude and lazy people. You'd be better off sending your child to prison. Also the male staff are sexually involved with the underage female children, nobody seems to care about that either.

My girlfriend is there and what she tells me is that the place is nice and every one is there for her to help and everything but her first night there there was like 4 fights but other than that the place is one if the best in NC

I am a 3rd shift Mental Health Technician (MHT) at our Leland, NC Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF). I am surrounded by professionals who are passionate about their roles and responsiblities in making a positive impact in the lives of our adolescent residents.

Margaret Morgan

This place do not help children put my daughter on the wrong medicine

Angela Lowery

The staff are heartless and careless. Especially 3rd shift who blare loud gangster rap while the kids are trying to sleep. On several occasions the staff was caught allowing a child to be assaulted and doing nothing until someone else came around. Some staff has put hands on and assaulted the kids there by choke slamming them, pushing, and hitting them. Staff has gotten in the kids face cussing them and spitting on them with little repercussions. The food is minimal and then vitamins supplements are given to keep the body from having a deficiency. The ONLY reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because the doctors and therapist are AMAZING. They care and love these kids and do any thing and every thing in their power to make their stay beneficial to their health and make sure they aren't going to end back up there.

Andrew Thomas

Doctors and staff were professional. Facility was well maintained and clean. My child's therapist, Ms. Rachel, was excellent! Family sessions were very helpful. I felt safe having my child there and was contacted for any requests regarding medication changes.

My mother has Alzheimer's/Dementia? And lives in memory care. She was combative and difficult constantly. Her residence suggested she go to Strategic for 2 weeks to find a good treatment plan for her (meds). She ended up being there for almost 2 months and came back to her memory care unit SO MUCH BETTER! Obviously she still has Alzheimer's, but is happy and not a zombie. She is so excited when we come visit. I get hugs and kisses. She holds my hand. She adores her 5 year old granddaughter and it's so nice to be able to see her smiling. Thank you Strategic!!

Ricky Thomas

This place needs to be shut down. Just like the facility in Charlotte NC they had and got shot down by the state of NC. Shut it down and bulldoze the whole place. Ran by idiots who obviously have have no clue as of how to walk and talk at the same time let alone run a safe environment for staff or patients. Money money money. I cant wait until the day comes they get closed for good. They do not care about their employees safety let alone the patient safety. It is all about money.

karaline furby

sucked and didnt help.. staff was lazy and they only had one staff member watching us in the day room that we had to stay in ALL DAY. We couldnt even go to the bathroom sometimes because they only had one staff member watching us. If you didnt do all the activites they made you feel terrible and you had to stay in your room for a hour and you had to be awake that whole time writing down what you did wrong. I wasnt aloud a phone call the first 2 days and you only get 10 minutes to talk to your family.. We had to get up early and were woken up by loud yelling from the staff and loud annoying music, Everyone i was there with said they just felt like a paycheck and felt like they werent even getting help, They gave me so much medicine and i felt like a zombie honestly my feelings felt fake. i was so constantly tired and given one thin blanket and was freezing everynight, even with layers of clothes, i would never wish for anyone to go here.

This is coming from a parent. My child had been misdiagnosed, over medicated and was taken to a hospital because she was fainting from dehydration and starvation. I was never told when she was admitted in to the hospital, I had to find everything out on my own. When I visited SBC the conditions, to my absolute horror, were appaling. Some of the children were so heavily drugged, they couldn't sit up. My child was on a heavy dose of multiple medications that did nothing, except make her sleep. These people only care about money. When we did get to see her, its was for very little time, and with multiple parents and children shoved in a tiny conference room for maybe 30 mins. That was it. There was no customization in her treatment. She did not react well to the loud noises some of the more disruptive children made. From the looks of it, niether did the others that were visibly shaking at times because they've had multiple anxiety attacks in one day. We had to get therapy from a real therapist for her after this whole situation (She was there for 3 months) years later she is finally recovering from the additional trama this place has put her through. There are other mental health facilities that are worth your time and money. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE.

Linda Nagle Hanson

Would not recommend "geriatric" program to anybody. Patients with dementia and Alzheimer's get nothing from group talk therapy. The one hour of visitation between 7:45 and 8:45 p.m. is inadequate and inappropriate for patients with "sundowning" and not safe for elderly family members to have to drive that late. Meds were incorrectly administered several times. Calls to staff were not returned, even to patient's personal doctor. No criteria for discharge. Medicare should investigate.

Gr1m Sunfl0w3r

I am on level W, so don't take this as a bad kid complaining, but this place has made both my depression and my aggression (which was previously almost non-existant) way worse. Close obs and one-to-one are both good at heart, but when there's not enough staff and you can't go into your room, a precautionary measure becomes a punishment, and any complaints are met with non-compassionate staff's constant bleats of "don't self-harm then." The level system is also heavily skewed, I must admit. I have seen level S people try to attack their peers and still retain level, while other kids are dropped or not allowed to go for level for less than the same behavior. People are often punished as a group and told that we "function as a hall" while simultaneously being told to "mind [our] own treatment." The food here, while not expected to be 5-star, is simply abysmal more often than not. Those with allergies are given feeble replacements if one at all. On a more personal note to myself, vegetarian diets are usually consisting of a half-warmed rice and mushroom patty - and that's if you ask for something more than a "veggie sandwich bar." On a completely personal note, I have seen many staff allowing consistent homophobic and transphobic behaviours around patients, if not mirroring it themselves. Hell, even yesterday a staff purposefully tried to "get under my skin" my calling my by my birthname, and once a staff refused to serve me a drink just because I'm transgender. The only thing stopping me from rating one star is the few staff that do care, and here I'll mention them by name: MM JJ; Ms. Sarah B; Ms. Meagan; Ms Jordan (teacher); Ms. Alicia; and Mr. Tyler. Other staff care too, but these specific staff have gone above and beyond to show that they truly care for us, and see us not as mental patients, but as human beings with thoughts, feelings and emotions. Thank you for reading. Good luck.

eric flynn

Nothing is good about this place. Staff would never talk to you about your treatment. Staff sucked and were lazy and unmotivated to help. By far the worst facility i have ever been to. Horrible!
