Dr. Wachtel has been working with me in regards to my wishes to taper off my medications. I'm very thankful that she is helping me taper off safely. She is also very responsive to her emails, so if during this process if I don't feel well. I feel assured that she will get back to me if I reach out to her. She has a kind demeanor and I highly recommend her because she will work with you in order to make you feel better.

Before meeting Anna I was very skeptical when it came to psychiatrists. Why would you pay someone to listen to your problems and help you out? Wasn’t it a friend’s job? Also, as a French person, how would an American therapist relate to my European education and how could they even understand what it is to live in a foreign country! Besides, my experience with American general practitioners was bad, I felt treated like a customer instead of a patient and was prescribed medicine without knowing the name of the disease I caught. Why would a psychiatrist treat me otherwise? Thus, I was very reluctant to consult. But I needed to see a therapist. So I did my research and looked Anna up. I found out she lived in Russia, Israel, Poland, Italy and the US, even spoke a bit of French and Italian and also studied Internal Medicine. She seemed like a 5-legged sheep. So I went to see her, more relaxed but still on the edge. After all she was a psychiatrist that charged me $50 a session, didn’t accept credit card and required 2-day notice for cancellation! Who does that? But with time Anna tamed me, she helped me tremendously going over a complicated and painful separation, adjusting to a new country, coping with depression and moving forward. She never acted like a drug dealer and never prescribed me medicine that would have bad side effects, always explained how the whole body worked and how emotions have an impact on our body (I knew her internal medicine degree will be useful at some point!). Anna didn’t hesitate to contradict me and pissed me off more than once with her being always right and always challenging me. I really love her as a person and a therapist, and without her I would still be crying after a guy who broke me from the inside. Anna fixed me and made me realize that we are all in charge of our life and can change if we are willing to. If you don’t want to work your ass off, don’t go to see her because she will challenge you. If you just want to lie down on a sofa, having someone that just listens to you and nods silently, she is not the one. But if you want to find your own happiness, she is the therapist you will want to see.

This is my first visit with a psychiatrist and it is like being with a friend. Dr. Wachtel gets me! I tell her something and she understands right away. She sticks to her time schedule, so you are not kept waiting. She has sympathy,empathy and a sense of humor. She is a lovely woman and never talks down to you. She also sees the whole person in her patients..not just the problem that brought you to her. Dr. Wachtel loves the practice of medicine and if you become her patient, you will love her!

I picked Dr. Wachtel's name randomly from a list and I am SO glad I did! She is so kind and really listens to you when you talk. Always engaging and her feedback is always delivered gracefully. She is helping me feel a lot better about myself and has done an excellent job at managing my meds. Her office is always clean, quiet and safe. There are never any interruptions, you don't even hear a phone ring during sessions. She even helped me with my insurance and is always recommending good reads.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS DOCTOR! Her office/scheduling staff records you without informing you before hand. She will call and threaten you if you post a negative review about her. Dr. Wachtel actually called me at 8PM the night before my original appointment asking about my copayment. When I showed up, she does not take credit card or check. She says she will only accept cash and does not provide a receipt. She is a scam doctor!

I would recommend Dr. Wachtel to anyone that is in search of a psychiatrist in NYC. She was warm and welcoming upon our first meeting and our relationship only grew from there. After years of seeing the same therapist and getting nowhere I decided to finally find a new doctor. I am beyond happy I found Dr. Anna Wachtel. She is rude!!! On my LAST appointment, she greeted me saying I missed the previous appointment and she didn't want to start the session if I didn't pay for the appointment I missed and the one I was there for. I had to go outside to get the cash right away! I told her I forgot the appointment because I didn't receive the email confirming it and the emails with the appointment reminder. She did not believe me, acted as if I had done it on purpose or as if I didn't understand that I should have canceled it 2 days before. She kept on and on with the same thing, wasting consultation time! She even had the audacity to ask to see my emails on my phone, because she didn't believe my word!!!

DO NOT SEE THIS WOMAN. Wow I’ve never met a less comforting psychiatrist in my entire life. I walk in and she immediately says I owe a copay which is fine of course but it was her tone and could not even spare a hello my name is.. nice to meet you. She also seemed unaware we had an appointment if you’re having these issues get a receptionist, which she doesn’t have. I was not aware I had a copay so I call myself just to double check all the while she’s being rude and condescending. I tell her no problem let me just double check and she keeps coming out saying I have to go with what the provider says rudely, I ask her to give me a minute to finish my phone conversation with the provider to find out and she doesn’t give me a minute she stands there. I haven’t seen a psychiatrist in a while and am really desperate for help. I have NO PROBLEM paying a co pay but not for this woman I walked out of her office in tears DO NOT SEE THIS WOMAN IF YOU ARE SEEKING HELP COMFORT DIRECTION UNDERSTANDING OR FEELING A LITTLE UNSTABLE SHE IS UNFIT FOR THIS PROFESSION.

What a caring person and a wonderful doctor. It usually takes a long time for me to rate a provider. I'm into my 3rd month of seeing Dr. Wachtel when I truly realized that she really is a caring provider. She combines her treatment with medical and holistic approach with lots of empathy and compassion. She only not treat you with mental condition but also look into other medical problems as well. Disclosing personal information to her only to be met with rigid appointment and prescription policies, will not only hinder consistent treatment but will personally make you feel deceived by Dr. Wachtel and question the sincerity of your interactions with her. Point blank, her services do not outweigh the inconvenience and her immense indifference towards your personal situation. Only pursue a visit with her as a business transaction and nothing more; payment for prescription.

I want to share my experience with this doctor. I got to my first introductory meeting 25 minutes late because of a winter storm hoping she could help me by rescheduling. Instead, she said that she could not see me and that I should identify someone else. I had had difficulty scheduling a convenient appointment because of the limited choice of psychiatrists offered through my plan. She was insensitive to my situation. When I tried to convince her to please help me- she was just concerned that I should fill out the insurance forms so that she could charge my insurance for this visit. The whole incident was very difficult for me as my delay to the appointment was not entirely my fault. Her disdain and disinterest in helping me were hurtful.

Do Not See this Doctor . The Service she employs told me when I made the appointment is at her building is wheelchair accessible. When the doctor called me at 8 PM the night before her appointment which I made one week ago she called to tell me about a deductible. We discussed how terribly depressed my mother is and then when I brought up the fact that my mother was in a wheelchair she said she was not wheelchair accessible. The doctor informed me that she had one step and I said it was OK that I would take her down the step she said No no no I won’t see her. She would not see my mother Even after I made the appointment she waited one week to call and even after I said how depressed she was what kind a professional psychiatrist is this she shouldn’t even have a license

It is quite obvious that comments left in a negative manner have no true spine to story, and DO NOT speak truth about Dr.Wachtel's character, professionalism, or practice. She is a kindhearted woman who only wants to help her patients develop and grow. I have been a patient of her's for some time now, and I am more than pleased with all the progress we have made together. She is always encouraging and very personable-wanting to know her patients on a relationship building level with only the best interest at hand. I had previously been seeing a psychiatrist who could not remember much each session and I felt as if was not listening to me, not focused, and pushing medications. To be CLEAR - after just one session it was extremely apparent that Dr. Wachtel was THE EXACT OPPOSITE! Instead of treating everything with a bandaid- we delved more into roots of problems to help me gain new perspectives- after a session or two of revaluation we to discussed and outweighed pros and cons of certain medications and discussed multiple options and possibility resulting in a regimen that works best for my body, health, & mind. As any proper medical physician should, Dr. Wachtel did not just write a script off the bat which was actually comforting, because she was more focused on me and accurately evaluating what was going on to creat a harmonious plan for me. She caters to each of her patients and only has their health and best interest. We started gradually and I never once felt the pressure of "being drug pushed" or that she was hesitant on prescribing medications- only what was best for my health. She is a true professional who loves her career and really does do her best to assist her patients to the best of her ability throughout their journey and time with her. I thank her highly.

It was so difficult to find a good psychiatrist in the city for me. I couldn’t really take reviews to much at face value in this instance, since many come from people who are severely troubled in different ways. I made my way to quite a few places in search of the right doc. All in all 7 places to be more specific! I was horrified at the people who call themselves doctors. In most cases they seemed to be in more need of assistance then myself [nervous ticks, unorganized, forgetful, zoned out, unfriendly, etc.] I was about to throw in the towel but since I had a standing appointment with Dr. Wachtel, I thought I might as well look into her as well. And boy, I’m glad I did! Depression and constant pain was a result of an autoimmune disease and a daily battle in my life for the longest. I did not expect a cure but was hoping for some kind of ease. It took some time and redirecting but eventually we managed to find, what worked for me. I am 100% pain free today and in remission. I don’t even remember the last time I had a bad day or felt depressed. I’m truly thankful to have found Dr. Wachtel and couldn’t recommend her enough.
